Do you think Tiong LIan teams are strong enough to challenge the NCAA junior teams?

^ Strong enough maybe to challenge the UPHDS and La Salle Greenhills NCAA HS teams. But against San Beda, San Sebastian, PCU and Letran, the Tiong Lian teams don't stand a chance.

BTW, 1-0 na, in favor of cksc.. wohoo!

Tiong Lian is a good recruiting ground for future stars. HOwever, most Tio Lian players still prefer to play for UAAP teams since the traditional university choices for Chinoys are UST and La Salle. Mapua in the NCAA, though, is another choice of some Chinoys.

according to some experts, the Tiong Lian teams doesn't pose a threat to high school powerhouses in the likes of Ateneo, Zobel and Letran.

Some experts considered zobel a powerhouse in high school hoops?

DLS-Z was the UAAP Jrs champion last 2005...they were not able to defend it in 2006 because of the DLSU suspension..nadamay sila...their team was made up of migs de asis, martin reyes, dan salvador (all 3 now with UP Seniors team) and joshua webb

I think what ill behaviour implied is that Zobel is NOT yet a powerhouse - isang championship pa lang after so many years. tamabakan lang dati itong Zobel actually. It was unfortunate na nadmay sila sa suspension. As for the UAAP powerhouses, Ateneo is one and UST / Adamson also had their days.
But since this is an NCAA thread, the big ones are the current champion - Staglets, then the Red Cubs and the Red Robins ( nawala nga lang bigla). The letran Squires by the way I think did not even win a single game last season...Baka isa o dalawa...
Hoefully, we will see a better Squires line up and the return of the Red Robins in the next season.

That vaunted champion DLSU Zobel HS team (with Simon Atkins, de Asis, Reyes, Salvador, etc.) could not even beat the 3rd placer in the NCAA that year, the PCU Baby Dolphins, in the national tournament.
That is what ill behavior might be talking about, aside from the fact, of course, that they only won one championship in the UAAP.
It's premature.

If i remember it correctly, there was a year when Yeo, **** and Tiu played at the same time for Xavier. maybe that team can match up to the stronger junior schools.

Ok lang yan. The Tiong Lian League is relatively young compared to the NCAA and UAAP.
If the league is managed properly and the member schools develop and sustain good basketball programs, time will come when they will be at par with the NCAA and UAAP.
One thing going against Tiong Lian is that the league was organized for a specific community and consequently, there is the perception that it is exclusive for Chinese junior ballers. This perception, unless corrected, will make it difficult for the league to really grow because it limits the base for recruitment and public patronage.

That Letran Squires team which CKSC played against in January was the weakest team in the NCAA last season. That team did not win a single game in the NCAA.

actually kung tutuusin parang friendly tourney lang talaga yun Tiong Lian when compared to NCAA/UAAP junior teams. when matched againts other non-UAAP/NCAA schools, at par lang naman halos lahat. Xavier actually dominates most of their opponents in other small tourneys. recruitment of these schools is very limited since 80% or more of the students are filipino-chinese kaya di na nakakapagtaka kung bakit di ganun kalakas mga rosters.
when compared to UAAP/NCAA teams which have respective senior teams, iba talaga yun importance given to basketball at recruitment. im not sure about other chinese schools but xavier doesnt even give any benifits to its players, even scholarship... thats why they are more of a student than an athlete.

Commoner cited suppossed experts saying that "Tiong Lian teams doesn't (sic) pose a threat to high school powerhouses in the likes (sic) of Ateneo, Zobel and Letran".
To be objective about it, I doubt if these "experts" are real experts, for they do not know that they are saying.
When real experts talk about high school powerhouses, they should talk about the San Beda Red Cubs (dynasty in the 90's until the present), the PCU Baby Dolphins (consistent in making the finals or semis), the San Sebastian Stags (back to back champs) and maybe the Letran Squires (although they haven't won any championship in recent years and did not even win a single game in the NCAA last season).
The "experts" mentioned by commoner mentioned only Ateneo, Zobel and Letran.
Ateneo is a powerhouse in the UAAP. The Blue Eaglets team in the UAAP is the counterpart of the NCAA Red Cubs in terms of sustained dominance. But the Blue Eaglets team is not in same level as the Red Cubs.
Zobel team is a powerhouse? No way. Not yet. If they can sustain their winning ways in the years to come, probably. Only time will tell. But at present, definitely not yet.
The Letran Squires has produced a number of good HS ballers. This is a testament to the good basketball program of the Squires. it is just unfortunate that they made mistakes in the past that cost them a finals appearance in the last 2 - 3 years.
On a final note, we should be careful in citing our sources, and we should know when our "experts" are pulling our leg.
*okay*
Now gentlemen, back to topic. :)

Spare you the hypocrisy? Ehem. You missed the target by a mile.
Konting adjust pa ng utak.
Commoners "experts" failed to mention schools that are really worth mentioning as HS hoops powerhouses but thank God there are some posters here who are, thank God, "non experts":rotflmao: included PCU, MIT and SBC to the list. Problema kasi gumamit pa ng " according to some experts" eh, kung personal na opinion na lang sana ang ginamit eh di okay lang sana.
Big Ticket,
No need for any research for any news of that juniors team you mentioned for it had difficulty finding its way on the headlines. Simply because it is not for the books.
And lastly, the suspension was a blessing in disguise for the bengals, with the core of that championship gone they would find it futile to defend last seasons achievement.
Indeed if he is one of the few responsible posters here in PEx he should been more circumspect and should have practice more caution in posting comments or second hand information. There goes one responsible poster. . .boom!

Speaking of MIT, sayang talaga ang Red Robins.
Isa pang magandang mungkahi e magkaroon din ng battle of the champions and UAAP at NCAA juniors champs. It should be a yearly event, and we can use it as a venue to raise funds for a worthy cause.
