Kung totoo, buti naman at si Isaac ang napili. Palagay ko, nagsawa na ang mga decision makers sa MIT sa demeanor ni Lim ang yung ganoong asal, ayun kumuha ng halos opposite ang pag-uugali.

Lim berates his players too much, nakakababa ng morale kung paano niya pagalitan at pagsabihan ang mga bata during gametime. Dahilan marahil kung bakit maraming endgame ang di maipanalo.

With Isaac at the helm, I am sure, the players will be more focused on the game and not be worried of what they will hear from the coach in case they commit an error or bungled a play.

Alam ko, halos buo pa yung line-up ng MIT from Season82. Tatlo lang yata ang graduating. Songco at Gonzales ang dalawa sa tatlong mawawala. Malaking bagay ang pagkawala ng mga iyan.

If Isaac can fill the gaps and find a legit center for the team, MIT should be a contender. Regardless, with a good number of carry overs and Isaac calling the shots from the sidelines, MIT is still a F4 team.

Talaga wow.. Kala ko si Atoy Co ang maging coach, pero good for the Cardinals next season..

Leo Isaac former Ginebra/Anejo point guard.. will hopefully bring the never say die attitude of the old Ginebra team handled by the "Big J" during the late 80's and early 90's to MIT..

Isaac also played for Shell before he retired sa PBA... now if Joel Dualan will still be coaching the PCU Dolphins sa 83rd which I think siya pa rin kahit wala na ata si Baculi... dalawa na silang former players ng Shell sa PBA na head coach sa NCAA..

Will Isaac bring the NCAA title to MIT next season in his rookie year as the Cardinals head coach? Just like what another former Ginebra/Gordons Gin shooting guard rookie head coach Pido Jarencio was able to do for his own team.. Lets all wait and see..

Isaac was already asked to coach the Cardinals before but he declined and thus the position went to then Jrs. Coach Horacio Lim.

His decision this time to accept the position augurs well for the Cardinals future. He has already shown his ability to coach before where he won a PBL championship. So hopefully, he'll bring Mapua to even higher heights this upcoming season.

I will not be surprised if now former Mapua Tech head coach Horacio Lim will resurface very soon in any major basketball league, either as a head coach, assistant coach or as a consultant. He is a very good but underappreciated coach.

good point mr. servinio. take the case of coach jarencio after leading ust to a championship.

i saw leo isaac coach arellano university before and he improved that team into contenders.

i trully believe that sa basketball weather weather lang. kanya kanya oras ng pagsisikat. minsan lilitaw and minsan lulubog.

I definitely agree. But he's much better as a high school varsity coach than a seniors coach.

His style of coaching (that also involves shouting and swearing at players) would be perfect for immature and undisciplined high school players who need direction.

In fact, I'd give him credit for developing players like Mark Telan and Ernesto Ballesteros while they were still playing for the Red Robins. Telan at the time couldn't even dribble while running for around three steps without losing the ball. His patience with Telan eventually paid off when Telan became the NCAA Jrs MVP.

is it confirmed that isaac will coach mapua? i thought the management of mapua are choosing either jack santiago or bong ramos. atoy co was out of the selection ayaw daw mag submit ng resume, kilala naman daw siya.

if it's isaac, paano na ang arellano university which he handles? isaac will be a good choice for mapua again if the reports are true.

The selection of Isaac was already reported in the papers. And Arellano allowed him to coach Mapua because the NCAA season occurs in the first semester, while Arellano plays in the second sem. There's basically no conflict in the two teams.

scenario: he will still be the athletic's moderator of arellano but he wo'nt coach the flaming arrows anymore to give way for the mapua team.

i got it from a reliable source.

Kobe's scenario is right according to Isaac himself because the Chiefs only play in the NCRAA which happens in the latter part of the school year so I guess there is no conflict on that issue.

^ The Flaming Arrows may benefit from Isaac's new role because it would be easier for them to scrimmage with Mapua, who, I think, is still better then the NCRAA teams.

Leo Isaac is the Cardinals’ New Head Coach

In preparation for the upcoming National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) cage wars, the Mapúa Administration has appointed Leandro “Leo” Isaac to head the Mapúa Cardinals team. Isaac signed a three-year contract with the Cardinals at the President’s Office last February 6.

After four months of careful screening, the selection committee has trimmed the list of prospective coaches down to five. These aspirants were Ernesto Ballesteros, Joel Banal, Bong Ramos, Jack Santiago and Leo Isaac. “I’ve learned to respect all of them, and I am happy to have come to an equal level. Biruin mo, na-evaluate ako with them,” said Isaac.

The committee’s grounds for hiring Isaac in the tutelage position were his desire, keenness and passion for basketball. “What impressed me during our interview with him (Isaac) was his willingness to do whatever it takes to help our team,” said Glecy Estrella, NAMA president

The contract signing was graced by Dr. Reynaldo Vea, President and CEO of Mapúa Institute of Technology, together with Damito Magpantay (VP for Finance), Carlito Geronimo (Asst. Director of Athletics), Fernando Luzano (NCAA Coordinator) and the Search Committee.

Isaac At the Helm
Leo Isaac played for the Mapúa Cardinals from the years 1978 to 1981. At the age of 17, Coach Isaac was one of the youngest players in the NCAA. He graduated in BS Management and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Batch ’81. He also led the Cardinals’ rally for three consecutive years, becoming part of the championship team in 1981 as the team captain. He also took the Most Valuable Player (MVP) plum on the same year, winning over teammate Bong Ramos. Isaac also played for the Ginebra Gin Kings and Shell Turbo Chargers in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The Road to the Championship
Coach Isaac’s plan is to set up a three-year program that will lead the Cardinals’ to the championship crown. Every detail of the three-year program aims to assure the Mapúan community that the Cardinals will be more competitive than ever. The team will undergo rigid trainings for them to get back in condition.

The plan will include stints in invitational tourneys like Fr. Martin’s Cup, Flying V and MICABA. Tune-up games with other collegiate teams will be arranged and evaluated. These evaluations will initiate improvement in anticipation of the upcoming NCAA this June.

The system coach Isaac will impart to the team will be based on their performances. “There will be no specific system to follow. If they can run, then I can impart the run-and-gun style. But if not, we will take it slowly, in a step-by-step manner,” said Coach Isaac.

Isaac On the Cardinals
In an interview with The New Builder, Coach Leo Isaac mentioned one thing that caught his attention on the Cardinals. He admired the determination of the players, especially in the final cross-over with the San Beda Red Lions. “Kinapos lang sila ng ilang puntos, but they showed guts. They really deserve a respectable finish that time, dahil hindi sila sumuko kaagad. Malayo ang mararating ng team na ito, kailangan lang hasain ang skills.”

Rookie Cardinal TG Guillermo showed gratification regarding the new head coach. “Coach Leo is a high caliber coach and I feel that he is really into the business. This might be the start of a program that will support the whole team sa lahat ng games namin,” said Guillermo.

Coach Isaac believes that the good potential of the team will come out when given the chance. “I am a winning coach and I aim to produce a team that will be respected and be a force to reckon with.”

Even if the score was lopsided against MIT, yesterday's game against UE (I only saw the a major part of the first half) shows that even in such a short time coach Leo Isaac has put in place a good system. The boys made crisp passes and good defensive rotation. The UE squad was just too big and have better cohesion.

One test for Coach Isaac is his ability to channel Dela Pena's aggressiveness in a positive way. YEsterday he was unnecessarily overly aggressive on defense that he was tagged with 3 fouls before the half is over. And he seems to be rubbing his teammates the wrong way.

based on the game against letran yesterday in the Nike SUmmer League, it seems coach isaac is giving a lot of confidence to jonathan banal, their rookie PG...banal responded by scoring more than 20 pts...mostly from penetration and from the FT line...
