To all Heavy Bombers fans, this will be our new thread. Show our support to our beloved team. I think our team will be very competitive by next year, i'm not saying they will win the NCAA title next season but i'm sure they will give the other teams a good fight.*okay*

Finally! You, Heavy Bombers, deserve a thread of your own rather than merely piggy backing with game threads against another team. I say it's time to end the "consuelo de bob0" posts and it's high time we discuss the Heavy Bombers on its own merits.

There was a time when I hoped former Chief Bomber Philip Cezar would take te reigns of the Heaby Bombers. But Vanguardia proved he's not a mere substitute for the job.

Good luck to your next campaign.

If JRU can convince some talented players of the Light Bombers to stay and be a Heavy Bomber, we can have a more competitive team. Dedicatoria's departure is very huge. Anyway, goodluck to Floyd, i hope maging maganda ang career niya sa Toyota Otis in the PBL.

the last time i asked where lopez is that he is currently completing his residency at FEU. anyway, kabigting and lituania are now currently included in the heavy bombers line-up.

let's all hope that they can blend with the team easily for them to make it in the coming NCAA season.

as for floyd dedicatoria, let's all thank & wish him the best of luck in his PBL career at toyota-otis letran. he almost made as an MVP if not for his turnovers. let's support our other players in the PBL like marco fajardo (toyota), ariel capus (teletech) and whynsjohn te (magnolia).

thank you heavy bomber for creating this thread.... it's about time. i also want to start a thread before like this kaya lang for me i beleive na dapat sa mga students like you magsisimula in fact people like you are the one that can benefit from this thread.

being an alumni of JRU u can always count on me supporting this thread and help you on some clarification(s) that might come up in the future re: our current & previous team roster, games played & others.

The closest you got to the championship was during the 1999 and 2001 edition, the time 0f Nani Epondulan and co. On both occasions though, you lost with a big margin to eventual winners Letran and CSB.

With Vanguardia at the helm, JRU would definitely be a final 4 team. But losing Dedicatoria will hurt the Bombers chances. I-extend pa sana si Floyd ng 1 yr. ...kng pwede

i surely hope so na ma-extend sana siya for 1 more year, JRU needs floyd d. to get back on the winning track... at saka correction pala, hindi CSB ang nakatalo sa JRU noong 2001 kundi baste, that was a blow-out game won by the stags, so sad that JRU lost by 33 points in that crucial game 3 of the 2001 ncaa finals...

Maganda ang venue compared to NSA or RMC at accessible unlike Astrodome or Philsports/ULTRA. Tama rin lang ang capacity for elimination games.(Siempre, Araneta pa rin pagpasok ng F4/Finals.)

Kung 'di niyo pa nasilip ang San Juan ARENA, take time out just to see for ourselves kung babagay nga ba siya as venue.

Malapit sa JRU! Mas madali para sa inyo ang manood!

Kung may info na kayo kung ano ang napili ng JRU, i-balita niyo naman dito.

Of course, matagal pa yun... but seeing how the Heavy Bombers play at the Homegrown and how it is being supported by the school, it is obvious na ngayon pa lang ay pinaghahandaan niyo na ang Season 83.

jru lost to the green archers 63-70... after being down by 14 in the 1st half, they never gave up and make a run, they also took the lead in the fourth, but unfortunately, it was la salle that seals the victory, but it's ok, nothin to be ashamed of they had a teriffic ball game after all, medyo nag-mature at lumakas na ng husto ang team, expect them to rise and reclaim their long lost glory in season 83...:)

It's all about mindset.

JRU comes into the game with the intent to play hard and tough. More importantly, they are ready to take the same amount of hard and tough play from the opposing team.

There lies the big difference. Very few teams play with that mentality. If a team is not ready to play in that manner, their reaction is more often excessive. Sa iba, yung hard and tough stance ay provocation. Hence, may mangyayari nga.

I wouldn't use "dumi" to describe their brand of play. A player - one or two players- can be dirty. But never a team, or any team for that matter.

A team would only play in the manner the officiating would allow them to. Pag sa simula ng laro ay hindi na pinapayagan ng refs and ilang contacts, first quarter pa lang, ititigil na yan ng JRU. Then, make the adjustments or changes. Pero kung hindi tinatawagan ng mga referee, problema na yun ng kalaban.

Pareng Oca, would this statement of yours also apply to L.Alas' Knights?

During the just concluded NCAA, the knights very limitted scoring options have made them rely solely on Defense, a very tough one at that...almost bordering on, as some teams would put it, applying some "dirty tricks".

The decimated Letran team almost pulled it off, kinapos nga lang nun homestretch due to lack of shooters.

I noticed JRU Bombers brand of play looking very similar to that of the L.K. Maybe it has something to do with both coaches sharing the same defensive styles and strategies.

This early, i would give the Heavy Bombers a spot in the F4 next season.

im predicting na mapua will be out of the running for the final four next season.

If everything is going at the rate that i think it is i would have San Beda on top of my list anyday followed by JRU, strong on papers recently and i expect them to be stronger come pre-season tourney's. I would add a tentative letran im expecting 2 players coming back to the fold so if they would what they said they would alas is going to have a pair, needless to say the perenial basketball club is always here to stay. PCU is going to be tougher come season 83, their going back to basics, you can see it in their style of play in the PBL, belga is something i tell you that this early in time, i tell you that. Castro would be the main gunner but im seeing a big CENTER in the horizon and a pair of good forwards coming along, but other than the four no bench support so there is your achille's heel.

I would be glad to elaborate in the near, very near future.

hmmm... same brand of play? i don't think so because eventhough coach ariel has been under the shadows of coach louie for some time still coach ariel has a different system it just happen that he knows the system of letran because of being an assistant for toyota. for me, he's just doing the right thing and i don't call it dirty because it's not only jru and letran who are doing stuffs like that which you call dirty. anyway im just telling my opinion. :)

^I never said letran plays dirty. They only play tough defense like what i see now in jru...very rugged and intimidating despite lack of offensive options, however still manages to pull some wins during close games.

*** nga exciting panoorin ang games kasi pukpukan lagi. That is why some teams would see it as playing dirty but actually only playing tough.

At this stage of JRUs build up for next season, beating a team like DLSU yeasterday was really a tall order.

Just as the first meeting between these two, the Bombers have so much "gigil" at the front court.

If the team can be more relaxed, I am sure those shots would bounce more favorably off the rim.

But playing relaxed and composed is something one acquires overtime. This JRU team still doesn't possess those qualities.

Pero darating di yan...

correct. i was at the ultra yesterday and noticed how the boys really wanted to rush things up. the lack of championship experience was the big factor, eventhough la salle didn't compete in the uaap i could say that half of team had their championship experiernce. whenever jose rizal made some good baskets they slow things up and they are the one who dictated the tempo of the game. congrats to the green archers and also to jru for giving up a good fight... sad to say we will surely miss the services of floyd dedicatoria. i spoke to him before and after the game sabi nga niya ibibigay niya ang lahat, last game na niya kasi ito sa jose rizal and bid him good luck in his basketball career.

our biggest consolation are the students of jru who continiues to cheer the heavy bombers from the first up to their last basket. there's also one ugly incident in this game from the dlsu people behind jru's bench they are shouting foul words and even minumura ang buong team ng jru. i remember his face and the black polo he's wearing. nakakahiya....mukhang professional pa naman pero mukhang hindi nakakuha o naturuan ng mga magagandang asal sa la salle.

the alumni's of la salle are complaining on the hard fouls thrown by jru and after that they cursed the players, yes it is a hard foul but that doesn't mean that the players from jru intended to hurt their opponent. btw they should complained to referee and basketball is a contact sport and if they don't want their players to be pushed or bumped or hacked...i suggest to transfer them to their chess or table tennis team. it comes to my mind did they also complained or react when joseph yeo hit rico villanueva in the face during their ateneo-la salle game? that's more serious because yeo didn't run after ball.

Good news for the JRU students, alumnis & fans. 4 ex & current Heavy Bombers ballers are now playing in the PBL for Toyota. Fajardo, Dedicatoria, Nocom and Cagoco, while Wilson & Hayes are practicing with the Sparks.

Ariel Capus & Whynsjohn Te are still playing but on the different team.

So the JRU Heavy Bombers are being trained in a gym to hurt the Red Lions, particularly Sam Ekwe. :)

If you can't beat them, hurt them.

Are the JRU owners aware of this? ;)

Not only are they going to beat him and smack him around but...wait..who am I kidding? He'll quit and intentionally foul out.

A big man I know and train went up against Ekwe. He said that Ekwe is weak, slow, and cries to the referees when his lazy bully tactics get stomped. He is a crybaby! I BIG crybaby! Read up on his stats from Magnolia and talk to some of the other players. A bigger waste-of-space is hardly possible :mecry:  :mecry:

And look at you crying to the JRU administrators! Boo hoo hoo you red poseurs. Red lions? More like cowardly lions. I feel like I'm watching The Wizard of Oz when I read your mindlessness.

Not only did I find out that Ekwe wants to quit every time he gets shut down (which was basically every game in the PBL), but a guy who was 6'4" and 165lbs that I trained could also easily shove Ekwe around.

As I said, with this confirmed info, now I know how to make him wimper and whine to the refs in the first few minutes, demoralize SBC and make them easy pickings after their big ogre is pouting on the bench.

I was laughing so hard when I heard these stories, tears were running down my face :rotflmao:

Now I'm going to see if one of my 5'11" guys can frustrate him in the first 2 minutes since Ekwe won't have the strength to move him and he'll give up as he sees the bigger men charging toward him. Ekwe is presented as such a "nice guy", but his own student body finds him to be lazy...a big fish in a little pond.

And JRU will have his favorite bait waiting for him on the bench where he will run and hide. :p

And we've once again confirmed that JRU's muscle is still no match to the Red Lions' brains and smarts.

Assuming your guys are really that strong they are still handicapped when it comes to battling Ekwe and the rest of the Red Lions.

Simply because Ekwe and Co. have brains.

Let's leave it at that.

P.S. - Plus the Red Lions actually know how to play basketball
P.P.S - Plus, Ekwe can actually dunk in a game.... not just in someone's wet dream

BRAINS for EKWE.... I DOUBT IT....

Apart from his native tongue and English Ekwe learned how to speak other languages. Something someone can't obviously do if he has nothing inside his cranium.

CASSAVA (KAMOTENG KAHOY) LANG ANG KINAKAIN NIYA BACK IN NIGERIA... KAHIT TANONG MO PA SA KANYA... HA..HA...

Assuming this is true, then what's wrong with eating Cassava? More importantly, what's so funny about this?

PINOY SA PINOY NA LANG.. WALANG IMPORT NANG MAGKAALAM...

I can counter by saying that no RULES have been violated by Ekwe's inclusion in the lineup but you're obviously going to disregard that.

If your team is really good as you claim them to be then there should be no problem in beating a team with a foreigner right?

Di ba tinalo niyo La Salle? Di ba may import din sila (imports pa nga eh)? So what's the difference?

Dapat STUDENT SA STUDENT NA LANG.. WALANG "STUDENT KUNO" NANG MAGKAALAMAN... pero ang lagay eh may matira pa kaya sa line-up niyo hehehehe

Do you have any idea how much people in the fitness industry earn these days? Do you have any idea at all?

Even beyond myself, we have a couple junior executives in other companies who EASILY make 6 figure salaries who are training to be our coaches.

Some of us do this because we love it...not because our team can only win because they have a big foreign object on their team.

I've heard that SBC has a problem with post-grad placement and I never paid any attention to it in the past, but now I'm seeing where that idea would emerge

The fact that you brag about eating in those places shows exactly how full of BS you really are.

Let's analyze this situation. I'm in charge of several successful multi-national corporations as CEO, consult for several others over the course of the year, and have to deal with "best case scenarios vs. worst case scenarios" all of the time. You are the epitome of an employee I'd be chastising right now since what you are doing on these forums is exactly the kind of attention that your school DOES NOT WANT.

Have you not heard of the concept of "cheering for the underdog"?

Do you not notice that the only ones posting with you are just as mindless as you?

Do you not recognize that MANY of your alumni disagree with you if you follow the trail of the story as to WHY we got involved with SBC in the FIRST PLACE and are now with JRU? Again, SBC alumni came to US...NOT the other way around.

Now add this all up and, as the REIGNING CHAMPION who has a foreign player as the ROOT of your victory, do you not see how you are polarizing the ENTIRE NCAA community to cheer for JRU?

Even many of the Red Lions are cheering for JRU! You are just blind, deaf, and obviously dumb, that it feels like Christmas each day I read these forums, seeing how much deeper of a hole that you can dig yourself into.

Sheesh. Stupid. If I was your boss, you'd be gone, and I'd probably tell the guards to make sure the door hits you on your way out.

I'm a management consultant and I service both local and foreign clients.... which also means that I get to manage my time on my own.... which gives me ample time to shut up grandstanders like you here in Pinoyexchange... I find it therapeutical... a nice respite from the work... partida na, I only go online during my personal time.

The fact that you brag about eating in those places shows exactly how full of BS you really are.

Who's bragging? I'm honest, that's just routine for me. If you're envious of it then work hard so that you can also afford it.

Even if this does not apply to me, I'll still let you know that CEOs have accumulated so much brownie points in their careers already that it doesn't matter what they do with their time as long as they deliver results. Don't be a hypocrite, selective morality.

School? I'm not from San Beda and what irks me about you is that a 2-bit bodybuilder like you wants to pull down an institution just because of basketball, particularly because your offer was turned down .

Have you ever heard of the practice of confidentiality? San Beda turns you down and you use the NET to do your yakity yakity yak to talk about something private. Talk about not being only unprofessional but also of not having any class.

Have you not heard of the concept of "cheering for the underdog"?

Do you not notice that the only ones posting with you are just as mindless as you?

Cheering for the underdog? Please, your masquerading behind it since its obvious that you want to smear the SBC basketball program and why? Because they opted to go for LA than Quirino Ave. that's why.

Now add this all up and, as the REIGNING CHAMPION who has a foreign player as the ROOT of your victory, do you not see how you are polarizing the ENTIRE NCAA community to cheer for JRU?

At least the FOREIGN PLAYER is actually attending and passing his classes. How about your clients? Do you have any idea if they are actually aware of their courses?

Polarizing? That's what happens if there's a dominant team around and that same thing happens with any champion team. Trying to make a big issue out of it, but then again I shouldn't be surprised, you probably have crabs everyday hence your mentality.

Even many of the Red Lions are cheering for JRU! You are just blind, deaf, and obviously dumb, that it feels like Christmas each day I read these forums, seeing how much deeper of a hole that you can dig yourself into.

Sweeping generalization, hahahahaha, sino sina schwimmy?

Sheesh. Stupid. If I was your boss, you'd be gone, and I'd probably tell the guards to make sure the door hits you on your way out.

And you are a hypocrite who's trying to stir controversy for his start-up. If I were investing in your company I'll takeout my investment in a heartbeat and ask the other investors to do as well. I've met many unprofessional and crass individuals in my work but you take the cake sugarcup.

Way to go...just keep yapping, and don't be surprised if it's not only us who wants to take out Ekwe.

Wow, bitterness to the core, I won't be surprised really but unlike the others your bitterness is biased, you're like a jilted suitor, "sorry not interested.... kahit friends lang" hahahahahaha

ang problema baka sa amin mismo sumabog. JRU performance so far for the past 3 games are all bad. tsamba lang ang panalo sa SSC, i guess the players are burned out in the pre-season league.

i doubt my alma mater's chances in the final 4, if they will continue their way of playing basketball.

Burn-out...baka nga! pero wag masiraan ng loob... still too early in the ballgame to give-up.

Last season, the UST Tigers were way below the standings clinging by the thread on the #4 spot. They managed to overcome the twice to beat advantage of ue in the semis, then again losing game 1 in the finals against ateneo. But in the end sila pa naging champion.

Goodluck na lang on JRU's campaign this season*okay*

Good news to JRU: I'll be helping to sponsor 3 athletes from Davao who are brothers of a soon-to-be PBA player who are 6'6"-6'8" and who all just need a little help (and a place to stay) to get up here, establish residency and then resume school. I've got a list of individuals who can give them a job while I'll be training them to bulk them up like I helped their brother and the room and board part is easy.

You wanted a basketball powerhouse? I'm now guaranteeing it, one way or another...and we don't need a foreign player to do it ;)

now who's cryng and who's laughing? hahahhahahahhahaahahah:rotflmao:

you're such a retard.

SOME uninvited visitors have signified their intent to crash San Beda’s two-year party.

Despite being three months away from the start of the 84th Season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Seniors Basketball tournament, the defending champion Red Lions are expectedly the primary targets of the chasing pack. Out to end their reign are the same two teams that came closest last season.

Season 83 runners-up Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights and third-placers Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers have enough reason to believe that this year will be a step forward. Both squads return with the same coaching staffs, relatively intact cores and arguably bigger dreams.

Sixteen-time NCAA champions Letran enter 2008 with the same mentality that’s seen them through five consecutive Final Four appearances. Defense and a primacy on shooting remain the trademarks of the Muralla-based squad. And while head coach Louie Alas feels his team’s attitude is “still quite far from that of his previous championship teams’,” he’s confident that his players will mature soon enough to realize their potential.

Some issues, however, need to be addressed by Alas and his coaching staff. Team captain Mikko Quinday was the only player expected to leave the team after 2007 due to age requirements, but the Knights lost two additional key cagers for various reasons. Last year’s second-leading scorer Bryan Faundo is currently not with the team for academic reasons, and point guard Kirk del Rosario will likely sit out the year after undergoing shoulder surgery in the off-season.

In typical Letran fashion, however, Alas remains resolute. While Faundo’s loss is critical, given the fact that he’s able to pull opposing big men out of the interior due to his prolific perimeter game, Alas feels that some of his current players can pick up the slack. “I have John Foronda and Alvyn Cabonce, both of whom can shoot from the outside,” he said.

Cabonce, Foronda and Schubert Reposar are expected to complement Dino Daa, the team’s primary weapon in the paint. However, much of the team’s offense will be anchored on its perimeter players. RJ Jazul, arguably the league’s most dangerous shooter, high-flying Rey Guevarra and Reymar Gutilban form a dangerous troika that’s expected to shoulder about 60 percent of the Letran offense.

Over at Shaw Boulevard, the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers are doing things just the way they like it. With not much attention paid to them, last year’s surprise package are quietly attempting to put the finishing touches on a three-year program that’s catapulted them to the upper echelons of the league after a dismal 2-12 record in 2005.

Heavy Bombers head coach Ariel Vanguardia still has the six-man core from his first year in charge. Incidentally, these six players – Marc Cagoco, Marvin Hayes, Jayson Nocom, Maui Pradas, JR Sena and John Wilson – are all playing in the Philippine Basketball League, a clear testament to their growth and maturity. “This year is boom or bust. It’s the final year where I’ll have all six together, so this is our best shot at winning,” Vanguardia said.

Gone from last year’s team are defensive specialists RJ Cunanan and Alvin Se, while big man Jerome Ramos will skip the season after being tapped by the Nokia RP Youth Team. Prospects looking to break into this year’s roster include Capiz-based recruit Jecster Apinan, point guard Nathaniel Matute (who was originally recruited by a top-caliber UAAP school), former JRU Light Bomber Derico Lopez, and Cameroonian Nchotu John.

Key for the Heavy Bombers this year is production from their second unit. John Agas, JR Bulangis and Raycon Kabigting need to step up on both ends of the floor to support JRU’s “Super Six.” In Season 83, JRU’s reliance on its core players pushed them to the limit, resulting in tired legs in the endgame.

In terms of maturity, Vanguardia feels that his team has finally acquired it. “They’re mature; they pass more and shoot less. They’re ready.”

The Knights and Bombers both know that there’s more to dethroning San Beda than mere talk. Should they do more, this year’s bash may not be around the hallowed grounds of Mendiola anymore.

Christian Soler

@ Big Boy: Among all the teams this year, I feel JRU is the most well-equipped to beat the Red Lions. They’ve got a big man who can shoot (Nocom), a legit post presence (Sena) and a deadly shooter (Wilson). The problem last year was their point guards. Cagoco and Bulangis caved in during endgame stretches. Coach Vanguardia says he’s addressed this, so it’ll be interesting to see how the point guard scenario plays out.

As for the new recruits, let’s watch out for Apinan and Matute. Apinan is a 6′3″ 3-4 who can slash and break down defenses, while Matute is a point guard who’ll be a matchup problem for guys like Hermida and even Gamalinda of SBC. If they make the team, I think they’ll be given the chance to contribute.

All in all, JRU will be much better this year. But as I said, being better is one thing, beating Beda is another.

Hype your team up. . . .Kung all out na ang JRU this next season drum up your school.

Kaso nga lang base on experience, first game last season sobra sobrang hype binigay natambakan naman ng SBC half time pa lang alam na kung sino mananlo.

Why not try to create a catchy phrase like. . . ."It's now or never" or the like para off season pa lang may goal ang buong school for the basketball championship.

I'm not sure that's correct about Cagoco, Sena, Hayes, Wilson, and Pradas. Nocom might be on his last year, but I'm not sure of that either. They are a young team.

The work ethic of Nchotu has improved. I didn't really like him last year like I did the Team A players, but he has come a long way and I'm starting to like the young man. He's not nearly as strong as his teammates (yet) but there is still a few months before the season starts, and we don't need long to get him to be as physical as his teammates.

Actually the beatings he took in practice from his teammates made him realize just how important it is to lift weights. He didn't really ever touch a weight in Cameroon.

At 5'10" or so he doesn't really match up well against Ekwe.

Common sense dude mas matagal si Jimmy Santos sa entertainment industry compared on his basketball career. There are a lot of personalities that have good basketbal program na mas bata pa kay Jimmy.

In fact masyado na silang madami sa bench baka maubusan ng upuan ang mga players.
