For me, the trumpets of Letran really symbolize their team monicker, which is the Knight, because trumpets were played during the time when the knights in armors were evident in England. I think those trumpets are used to honor kings and knights as well.

Speaking of cheers, I just hope na mawala na 'yung bastusan with regard to the schools' cheers because talagang nakakatapak ng pride. Case in point is San Beda's Indian Yell being bastardized as evident when the "He Yu Kim Kum Ka Wa" part is yelled. People from other schools replace it with "Beda Tulo Laway." Kaya napapaaway ang mga tao mula sa iba't ibang schools dahil dito, and this is just one of the reason why, probably. 'Di bale nang magmurahan (it happens) basta wag lang tapakan ang pride ng isang school.

the Stand on the Grandstand cheer was used by San Beda way back in the 1950's. if im not mistaken, it was banned during the 70's. better ask the NCAA elders about it, even those who are not from San Beda acknowledge the fact that it was indeed a San Beda original, same goes with our Lion's Roar.

I didn't drag your alma mater's private issues when you confronted us with your "Bedans are like this and that..." simply because I don't believe you alone represent UST as an institution. Pulling your school down or any school for that matter won't do me any good, I'd rather confront you point by point than induce discriminating comments in regards to your school.

About bedista.com. Don't stick your nose where it don't belong if you can't take the heat. Expect nothing less than Lions' Pride when you step inside the Den. Bahay namin yun, RESPECT. First of all everyone have already pointed out that SBC is not a University so by default San Beda can't qualify to even the top 100000000000000000 universities in this planet or even in any alternate universe. It's like apples and oranges, not the same thing but both still tastes great.

Second of all, it does not necessarily follow that even if you are a graduate of the Harvard University or the University of Cambridge which is ranked one and two respectively, it does not necessarily imply that you would be the best student or even part of the best or the top or th whatever you call it group. It just does not follow.

Third How long have you been observing bedan behavior? My God, are we so special that we would deserve so much of your time... thank you for your time. But i believe the time you spent to "observe our behavior" is not enough. you might want to take more time on looking at the whole rather than selectively viewing what you want to see, because if you already have a premeditated mindset, you will never see the entirity of it all.

So at the end of the day, i have proven myself right, even if in this case you study in the TOP 500th University in the world, you schools stature does not seem to follow not only your demeanor but also your way of analysis as well. At the end of the day even if you have a basket of great apples, the basket seem to carry with it a "rotten" fruit, and if left in the basket it would spoil the batch.

Sa cheers ok talaga ang sa Bedans, Ateneans, Letranites, (how do you call the... ) JRU alums and students. Nauna eh. Pero humahabol kahit papano ang UST courtesy of the YJs (shameless plugging from a PEXer from you know where :D). And we acknowledge the rich cheering tradition of these schools.

On the Stand on the Grandstand, veteran JYs have admitted that the similar cheer from UST was already there even before the YJs were formed. They just included it among the originals as soon as the group was formed. I myself vaguely remember this cheer in the 80's (I use to tag along the cheering squad to get a free ride to the game venues complete with PE uniform maski walang PE class. However, I was more inclined to shouting "P#$%ng I#$%^ Mo to the likes of Allan Caidic up to the likes of Johnedel 'what's your NCEE rating' Cardel for beating the sh!t out of that certain squad from Espana. Prep yata ako non :D). And, because of my relative youthfulnes, I didn't get to hear the Bedans use the Stand on the Grandstand when tagging along older Bedan cousins to the games. But our elder basketball fanatics have spoken. That cheer was used way back the 50's. Nobody from UST can claim earlier than that. So it's easy to assume that San Beda owns the original version of that cheer.

I know Bedans are proud of their cheering tradition. But, for the YJs at least, there was no deliberate attempt at claiming ownership to that cheer. I sincerely hope no harm was done. Now, having said that, are you, Bedans, totally against certain schools 'lifting' portions of your cheers? I'm sure the YJs will do the right thing and drop it if the Bedans deem so. According to a YJ, they are contemplating of dropping it now.

I agree with your comment that you are part of the big 4. But take a closer look of your institution. UST is the oldest institution in Asia. It is even older than Harvard. Pero the sad fact is, 500th lang ranking nyo. Tinalo na kayo ng UP,Ateneo, & La Salle. If you will compare the courses being offered by San Beda and UST comparable ang standards ng San Beda or mas masakit natatalo pa namin kayo especially if we talk of arts and sciences & LAW.Point, it doesn't mean that your 500th in ranking you are doing good in the field of education. You actually have the same fate as Letran etoh rin kasi nauunang institution nuon panahon pa ng kastila pero sayang lang kasi hindi natutukan ng husto. Siguro parehas Dominicano ang nag-run kaya ganyan.

Anyway, as an institution you have to strive to be better. Sayang kasi university kayo. Almost lahat ng students prefer to study in a the so called "BIG 4 Universities" (Yan ah na-include nakita.) So in short, you are most probably getting the best and the brightest in the country pero i hope it will translate to greater individuals later on especially in their contribution to the society.

If you compare the resources of the four institutions you can say that UST has the least owing to the fact that it charges the lowest tuition fee or it does not get its funds from the government. But UST remains to be among the top universities when it comes to medical allied courses, engineering, architecture, and fine arts. The passing rate is still among the top tier if not the number one. I dont know exactly how UST stands against other schools in Accountancy but UST has had its share of board topnotchers. I don't know how you measure success in arts and sciences but I know of a number of Thomasians in performing and literary arts. UST has had its share of journalists both in print and tv. They say a lot of kids want to go to UP, ADMU, and DLSU for college. When I, too, was a kid, ALL of my classmates (Med Tech) had UST as their first choice. Ican only speak for myself. Others may get the impression that the University is trying hard to associate itself with the other 3 universities but most Thomasians I know are pretty much secure with ourselves and what we've achieved.

Those from the performing arts are not necessarily products of AB, and the same is true for the literary arts, especially those who wrote for the Varsitarian, although a lot of them were products of AB Literature.

They say a lot of kids want to go to UP, ADMU, and DLSU for college. When I, too, was a kid, ALL of my classmates (Med Tech) had UST as their first choice. Ican only speak for myself. Others may get the impression that the University is trying hard to associate itself with the other 3 universities but most Thomasians I know are pretty much secure with ourselves and what we've achieved.



Now if we can only go back to regular programming :D

I just had a discussion with my professor in college. He actually acknowledge your ranking in Asia considering that you are chargin one of the lowest tuition fee in the country. Salute you guys for that. hehehe...

Back on topic, sorry pala for the 'Animo Cheers!' performed improptu by some Thomsians in the gallery (heard they were former YJs). Like most of us non-Bedans, they, too, were not aware that this cheer traces its roots to the "Stand on the Grandstand". It doesn't help that this has been banned, according to you fellow Bedans since the 70s. Even the supposed 'composer' of the UST copy could not be found :D. Siguro we could prevent this form happening again with the help of YJ PEXERs.
