I am researching the Gozar Family Tree and wonder if anyone here is a Gozar relative or knows someone named Gozar anywhere in the world. I've heard Perez...pero wala akong kakilala personally. And i'm from Calintaan, a nearby town of Sn. Jose. Sn. Jose is the most modern town in Occidental Mindoro. Sa Sn. Jose din ako pinanganak but lived most of my life in Calintaan. I'm out of the country right now. I used to visit lang Calintaan during my vacation because my family lived now in Parañaque. Pero may bahay pa kami dun. Yun nga lang pag bakasyon lang ako nakakapunta dun ganun din yung mga kapatid ko kasi all of us e may sari-sarili nang pamilya.:)

It's probably my relatives on my mother's side. Some of them are now in Manila but that all that I know of them. But thanks again.

The election to me is a parse. It's the same old politicians versus new ones from the film and tv indutry. I hate it and I am not enjoying any of these. Tell you, Pinoys in Manila are still very immature politically or must I say democratically. New politicians are just for the take, but not all though because I know some are honest ones. But again,they will probably not make it because they will be overwhelmed by the political machineries of the old "Trapos" and the rich tv personalities.

A vote is only 500 pesos for most of the poor living in the squatters. And most of the voters are from this class.

Nice to hear from you. I was born in Calapan and my roots are in Naujan and Bongabong according to my grandpa. My mom is from San Jose, and as you said, the sugpo is really good. My grandpa used to bring to Manila isang kaing every two weeks. Ang saaaarrrraaaapp!!

I spoke to my Mom and she said she knows a lot of Gayos and Garibay as well. I personally do not. In fact, my Mom's ninang was a Gayos (her maiden name). Actually, my Mom said that the Garibay she knows are not from Naujan. I think she said they are from San Agustin. Do you have one of these last names?

Thanks for the info. I think I am closing in to something. Yes, Dr. Gozar is our relative and we could not contact their family. Our roots are in Naujan, in fact I have plenty to tell about Naujan (especially the townhall). Could you lead me to him. Can I get his email or fax number.

Also, the Garibays and the Gayos as well as Garichos are all related to us, they all come from Naujan.
Some trivia here: sometime in the Spanish times, all residents in the provinces were baptized according to the alphabets, such that a town like Naujan was assiged the letter G, thus, Gozar,(meaning to enjoy), Gayos, Gariba, Gayos, Garichos....etc. etc. Funny ha, but it is archived in our history books.

EricGozar: Unfortunately, I do not know their phone number. I will try to find out from my grandmother. (This may take a while.) You know that Dr. Gozar and his family still live in Naujan.

I do remember reading about the fact that the Spaniards did assign letters to villages. I am not sure why my grandmother's and grandfather's lastnames both begin with the letter A. I'm pretty sure they were both born in Naujan. Maybe my great grandfathers and grandmothers were not.

hello! mabuti naman at may kasama na akong taga-oriental dito... if your grandpa is from bongabong most likely my mom knows him... my grandparents started their family there and my mom grew up there :D

there's really not much to see in bongabong... dun mo talaga mafi-feel nasa province ka... sa calapan kasi parang manila rin eh... :)

About sa init, ok lang yun, para naman tayong hindi sanay sa init e dyan din naman ako galing ano? kaya nga lang wag lang akong hihikain nang ndi naman masira ang bakasyon ko. last year kasi hinika ako (ndi ko alam may hika din pala ako, kc that was the first time) dahil nga sa sobrang init. hay josh ko, kahirap pala ng may hika. airconed room(tama ba spelling ko? :)) is not that much helpful kc pag labas mo ng kwarto mainit din. siguro sa probinsya hindi naman masyadong mainit, kc maraming puno at sariwa ang hangin. yun nga lang hindi naman all the time na nandyan ako e nasa probinsya lang ako. maybe mahaba na ang one week na nasa calintaan ako. and definitely sa fiesta sa atin e nandun ako.

I spent my 23rd Birthday sa Nueva Vizcaya coz nandoon nakatira ang pinakamamahal ko sa buhay. Heto ako ngayon at sunog na sunog at mahapdi ang aking mga balat dahil sobra yatang nabilad sa araw.

Wala naman akong handa. Nagkatay lang sila ng baboy at manok para sa akin. May cake din at ice cream, spaghetti, mga kakanin at maraming-marami pang iba. Yun lang naman. Para ngang children's party. Naligo kami sa ilog kasama ko family nya. Sana wag akong bunihin. Sa ilog namin kasi sa mindoro, kapag naligo ka sa ilog, kailangang magbanlaw ka ng maigi at magsabon dahil kung hindi ay buni ang aabutin mo...

im not in the position to answer your inquiry because i myself is not yet a member of it. EricGozar has the authority on this and is, i think, an active member of TAM or "The Association of Mindorenos". but according to what i've been hearing from my dad and uncles, it is a non-stock and non-profit organization that promote and advocate projects that would benefit our beloved island. members consist of kababayan professionals and most are businessmen, lawyers, engineers, etc. that's what all i know about them and i'll welcome corrections and clarifications from EricGozar. :)

Well, calintaan and norman, and for everyone's info, TAM, (The Association of Mindorenos) is, a non-profit, non-stock, non-religious apolitical, non-partisan association of Mindorenos who would like to be around similar "mangyans" (joke lang, I' one of them) and who enjoys the camaraderie during weekly and monthly meetings, where everyone enjoys good company and laughter. The association has several scholars from Mindoro whom TAM sponsors every year. We also participate in civic work like medical missions and the support of the preservation of the mangyan tribes.

The group is composed of good civic minded people who has their own businesses but still could find time to regularly meet. Membership is cheap. The officers are all "kalog" and fun to be with. The projects are quite attractive so some Mindoro sorties are the call of the day once in a while. Not bad ha! TAM was authored by Gov. RGValencia. But our president now is Mr. Ed Janda from ADB. Chairman is guess who - Mr. Jollie Ting.

If anyone is interested, I will post here the next meeting date, time, and venue. calintaan, you should join!

That sounds really really great!

I do envy those people who could still find time to engage themselves in social activities inspite of their busy schedules.

How i wish i could join TAM now. I'm afraid I can't at this moment coz I'll be having my thesis proper soon considering that i am a working student. I also do part-time computer tutorial during saturdays & sundays. Loaded talaga ako! Mabuti na lang nga at nakakasilip ako dito sa thread natin paminsan-minsan.

Still, I am interested to know the schedule of activities TAM is having. I'm sure, the other mangyans are interested too.

FYI, I originally posted this thread in the Campus Chat Forum hoping to invite other mangyan students to post that's why if you try to go back to my opening post, it was like that. After a couple of weeks, the moderator moved it to Filipinos Everywhere.

Probably, it has something to do with that story above why you said that most of the mangyan pexers in our thread were in the younger age bracket.

But anyway, you are absolutely right! Age is not the issue here.

About my vacation? It was soooo good!!! Ayaw ko pa ngang bumalik e. calintaan i met your brother, akala ko nga ikaw yun. I asked him kung sya si ikaw... hindi daw, but once in a while nagpopost din daw sya dito. He was with us nung minsan na me sinilip kaming sayawan. Pero sayang he was'nt able to join us nung nag picnic kami sa resthouse ng father ko sa Concepcion. And one thing more Bb. Kagandahan was also there.Palagi din namin syang kasama. Kasabay pa nga namin sya nung pauwi na kami sa Manila. She's so busy daw kasi kaya hindi na sya nakakadalaw dito sa thread natin. We did'nt stay long in Mindoro, hmmm...about a week lang siguro. Simula kasi nung dumating kami dun, umulan na ng umulan kaya hindi din kami masyadong nakapamasyal. Buti na lang the day na nag-picnic kami e gumanda ng konti ang panahon although malalaki ang alon sa beach. Pero ok na din kasi i was able to visit my hometown. Well, saan pa ba :uh: ??? We've been also to Baguio, Pangasinan (I was able to visit my lola and lolo from father side- see? i've got two provinces. Mindoro and Pangasinan) Tagaytay, Laguna and syempre sa bahay :)

Well, have to save more kwento for the next post.

i'm from calintaan too i'm a great grandson of capt. calabio, i'm working here in califronia right now as a private nurse i'm doing great so far even i miss ginataang bisukol at tortang talong!!!!

Anyways, ok lang naman ako. It just so happened that a friend of mine suggested that I check out pinoyexchange coz it's so cool daw. Eh wala akong maisip na username and I was asking her where I'll spend my Christmas. I'm living in NY kasi and my parents are going to the Phil. in December to see my sister who's gonna give birth and I don't know when they'll be back, siguro after Christmas na. calintaan yup, i'm ok here! thanks for remembering. Anyway, I live in Queens near the border of Long Island. I'm like half an hour away from Manhattan, so we're not really that affected. Although, we can see the smoke coming from the World Trade Center.

I've been too busy kasi kaya hindi ako nakakasilip dito pero because of what happened yesterday, I didn't have to go to work. I'm a school therapist and schools are closed so ... eto, walang ginagawa. I went out this morning to buy some groceries and it seems that everything's back to normal.

I dunno how many we have in Oriental but I know we have the new one in Pinamalayan, an old one in Calapan (runway patungong cemetery) and the Gozar Airbase for the Philippine Air Force. (Guess you did not know that?)

Jose "Pepe" Gozar, the first aviator to fight the first wave of Japanese zeros that bombed Manila. Declared a hero by the Phil. government, he is from Mindoro and we should be proud of him.

yup. i personally know norman, his brother ferdie is my barkada and we often hang around at their place in tagbac during our high school days. last may, i was there and i've heard than norman is working at the eiib. the sad part of it i think is the abolition of the bureau by the erap admin. but as of now the employees are still fighting for what they think is due for them.

anyway, maari bang mairequest na pakipost rin ninyo kung saan kayo nagtatrabaho o nag-aaral, para naman kung sakaling mapasyalan natin ang tanggapan o paaralan ng isa't isa ay may makakakuwentuhan tayong kapwa natin mga mangyan. alam nyo bang halos sa lahat ng paaralan, tanggapan at mga malls dito sa maynila ay may mangyan kang matatagpuan?

I always used to tagged myself as a native of mindoro whenever I introduce myself to people or infront of a group... History wise, nanay ko ay taga-culasi, antique at tatay ko naman ay taga-bulacan so that means I am lying. Pero the fact na ipinanganak ako sa mindoro at doon na ako halos lumaki, I believe is enough para i-consider ko ang sarili kong mangyan... Dahil kung hindi ko sasabihing mangyan ako ay baka maguluhan lang sila at marami pa akong dapat ipaliwanag...

CANCER: Not all cancers are the same. 1/3 is curable. 1/3 is
preventable.2 factors of cancer that cannot be controlled are AGE & FAMILYHISTORY.

CAUSES OF CANCER:


1. Smoking is very often the main cause of cancer. It kills us silently and drains money from us quietly. There're 4,000 harmful chemicals (though in diluted form) in one stick of cigarette. Taking one puff is 600 times worse than inhaling the exhaust fumes from vehicles.


2. Some foods that cause cancer are:

a. Barbecued Food

b. Deep Fried Food

c. Overheating Meat

d. Food that is high in fat causes our bile to secrete acid that contains a chemical which is a promoter of cancer cells.

e. Food that contains preservatives,too much salt or
nitrates,e.g.Canned food,Salted egg & veggies, sausages, etc.

f.Overnight Rice (where Aflatoxin is accumulated)

g. Food that is low in fibre: Our body needs 25 gm of both soluble & insoluble fibre daily. We must drink at least 1.5 litres of plain water a day.

h. Contaminated Food (e.g. moulded bread causes our body to secrete toxins that may eventually lead to liver cancer in the long run. Never eat bread that is kept in room temperature for more than 2 days especially in a humid weather.



3. Types of fat and which is the best? Highly Recommended for Health

a. Olive Oil- It does not absorb in our body.

b. Fish Oil - Omega 3 (contained in NI's Circulytes)has
poly-unsaturated fat. It's good for our brain cells.

c. Peanut Oil - It contains Vitamin E. A small dosage is recommended only.



4. Not Recommended for Health

a. Vegetable Fat - Palm oil is worse than coconut oil. It is high in cholesterol and highly unsaturated.
b. Coconut Oil - It has saturated fat.

5. Specific Food & Beverages

a. Egg when eaten too much can cause High Colon Cancer. Risk Ovary Cancer, Prostate Cancer

b. Cabbage is highly recommended for health reason

c. Tomato is best eaten raw with a bit of olive oil for better absorption. Other alternative is to take tomato sauce.

d. Coffee is good because it contains 2 anti-oxidants.Inhaling the coffee aroma for half each day is equivalent to eating two
oranges a day. However,the residue of over-burned coffee is extremely bad for health. It can cause cancer.

e. Tea, as long as it is in its original tea leaves and not processed into BOH or Lipton packets, it is good for health.Tea contains 30 anti-oxidants. Recommended dosage is 4 cups a day.

Have a balanced lifestyle. Exercise regularly

F: Frequency: 3 to 5 times a week
I: Intensity: Exercise till we sweat and breathdeeply
T: Types of exercises: Find one that suits our age,lifestyle,

I am attending morning classes and most of them are in the main campus. I have heard na puwede na raw mag-cross enroll ang ABSA dyan sa CDP for an evening class and that sounds nice to me.
