Naaalala nyo pa ba ang sikat na linya ng theme song ng gag show na Tropang Trumpo? Ok na ok talaga ang mga gimik nila! Ang favorite part ko ng show nila yung Battle of the Brainless! Pati na rin yung dance number nila na ang background music ay sila-sila na kumakanta ng Caronia!

Tropang Trumpo was great, especially with the orig. cast like Michael V., Ogie, Carmina, Gelli, Earl tapos nandun pa si Maoi (MBA player na!). It paved the way for gag shows! Battle of the Brainless was cool .. along with their cheers and yells tapos yung mga pangalan nila like Carmina Siguion-Reyna, among others. Remember Carmina's pustiso gags? Tapos there was the "use in a sentence" like decorate as in "...decorate answer is 4". Of course, the popular Chicken!! They were really great!!!

sobra! it cracked me up everytime! lafftrip talaga! none of the otehr shows matched it's funnyness! bubble gang, goin' bayabas, ispup, super laff-in...nothing matched TROPANG TRUMPO! it was so funny! battle of the brainless!!! that chicken dance...caronia......awww! miss ko na yung show!!! when ogie and michael v. left....naging a little corny na tapos gelli and carmina left...still a little funny...tapos it became sila smokey, raffy, cheska garcia....wala na! naging corny na...although the EKSPERIENSYA skit was still kinda funny..."mag-tumbling ka muna!" haha!

The Experiensya skit was really funny, with the "At ang katanungang..." parts and the "tumbling ka muna" dialogue. :lol:

watched a few reruns last year ata. love ko talaga battle of the brainless. the best nga original... michael v, ogie, gelli, carmina, earl. tapos dumating si smokey. mga ilang episodes later umalis na sila michael v. okay pa rin nung time ni smokey pero mas okay kung kasama pa sila ogie. isang episode lang ata sila ogie ng bahaw tapos next week bigla na lang silang naglaho.

The original cast of TROPANG TRUMPO were OGIE ALCASID, MICHAEL V., GELLI DE BELEN, EARL IGNACIO, MANNY CASTANEDA, NONIE BUENCAMINO, SHILOU BHARWANI, MALOU CRISOLOGO and LISA (something). It was originally directed by (believe it or not) JOSE JAVIER (JOEY) REYES.
When Joey Reyes left, most of the cast sympathized with him and left the show as well. naiwan na lang sina Ogie, Michael and Gelli. nagpi-pinch hit ang mga Gwapings that time; Eric Fructuoso, Mark Anthony Fernandez, at ang naging regular na si JOMARI YLLANA. During this time, pumasok si CARMINA VILLAROEL. Si DEO DIRECTO of T.O.D.A.S. ang nag-direct during that season.
That time din, nagkaroon ng problema sina Anjo Yllana (Jomari's brother) at Rustom Padilla (Carmina's boyfriend). Naturally, one has to go. Nung umalis si Jomari, bumalik si Earl. This time around, pumasok na ang staff ng BANANAS. With EDGAR (BOBOT) MORTIZ at the helm, and AL TANTAY as head writer, dito na naglabasan yung 'CHICKEN' (which was coined by Ogie) and CARONIA (lyrics provided by Michael V.) The dance steps were choreographed by Ogie and Michael (who were big fans of Gary V. and Michael Jackson).
The whole TROPA, with the exception of Gelli and Carmina, were supposed to transfer to GMA 7. But due to unforeseen events, the staff backed out at the last minute. Ogie and Michael V., however, persisted. TROPA had to go on without the two. That year, TROPANG TRUMPO won the PMPC BEST GAG SHOW award. Only Carmina thanked Ogie and Michael V.
On a side note, ABS-CBN made an offer to Ogie and Michael V. But due to lack of detail, the two went on with GMA.
BUBBLE GANG was born and the rest is history still in the making.

From the ashes of Tropa, came out the equally popular gag show of ABC which is Ispup. It went back to back with Wow Mali wherein Ispup reigns supremes on Saturdays and Wow on Sundays. Of the two though, Wow lasted longer until it made its last bow in 2006 (currently on rerun mode as Wow Mali Express). But Tropma will forever be remembered...CHICKEN!

Trivia: Halos kalahati ng existing writers ng both Goin' Bulilit and Bubble Gang, galing sa Tropang Trumpo, and most of these writers ay naging part ng karamihan ng Pinoy Comedy shows in both ABS and GMA. In fact, kung gagawa kayo ng family tree ng mga comedy shows sa pinoy tv, magkakadikit silang lahat.

re-runs na lang tlaga ang possible. or bilhin na lang ng GMA ang rights ng tropa para pwede nila ulit gawin yung chicken dance and bahaw segments sa bubble gang.

Tropang Trumpo premiered on Philippine television on March 12, 1994 in ABC5, and it wasn't long before it became a household name. With a talented cast that included the wacky trio of Ogie Alcasid, Gelli de Belen and Michael V and a director like Jose Javier Reyes, what could possibly go wrong?

Other members of the cast in the pilot episode were Earl Ignacio, Manny Castañeda, Noni Buencamino, Shielo Bharwani, Mhalou Crisologo, Ana Abad Santos and Lorna Gay Long.

Tropang Trumpo, a one-hour comedy program that featured gags, spoofs and lampoons, was known to be the "mother" of all local gag shows. It was the show that started it all, so to speak, and paved the way for all the comedy shows that followed thereafter.

Right from the pilot episode, the show gained instant popularity among different types of viewers. It's no wonder that Tropang Trumpo received regional acclaim as "Highly Commended" in the Best Comedy Programme or Series in the 1996 Asian Television Awards held in Singapore.

The show was in fact so popular that two of its lead castmembers, Ogie Alcasid and Michael V, were taken in by another network. It was then that Carmina Villaroel and Smokey Manoloto joined the show to complete the trio with Gelli de Belen.

In 1997, however, Tropang Trumpo was reformatted again and introduced a new powerful ensemble led by the ever-loyal Smokey Manoloto, Sunshine Cruz and Keempee de Leon. Backing up the main cast were Cholo Escano, Cheska Garcia, Meryll Soriano, Sherilyn Reyes and Marco McKinley. Since then, the program continued to dominate the ratings chart until it bowed out in the late 90's.

When it comes to local gag shows, Tropang Trumpo will always be in our memory as the show that made a mark and set a trend in the entertainment industry in the 90's.
