We stayed in SSS Village in Concepcion Dos for 20 years but transferred because of the floods. We're now at Hacienda Heights, still in Concepcion 2. But once in a while I sleep in our SSS house.

I'm not from Marikina but I studied there.

I love Marikina even if I am not a real Marikeño. I like the people. I like the streets. I like the government. I like almost everything in Marikina.

Actually, pinagyayabang ko ang Marikina City sa lahat lalo na sa mga taga-Las Piñas.

We have to give credit to Mayor BF for that. Imagine seeing a big transition from a lowly and sub-urban municipality into a highly-industrialized and eco-friendly city! I'm so damn proud of our town....imagine winning the Cleanest and Greenest City for 3 straight years earning them a spot in the DENR'S Hall of Fame. Hay naku...sa dami ng political and social awards ng Marikina at ni BF di ko na mabilang o masabi lahat. Pero ironically, nakakatulong din ang rivalry nina Bayani Fernando and Ome Candazo kasi nagpapasiklaban sila ng mga pagpapaganda ng Marikina. Pero I trully believe na mas maraming nagawa si Mayor BF kasi results speak louder than words. Naaalala ko pa yung Concepcion Market dati...ang baho na sobrang dumi pa! Pero ngayon tignan mo naman...ang linis na. Lahat ng kalye sementado pa at nilalagyan ng red sidewalks. Ang tree-planting talagang iniimplement. Galing talaga nya.

Anyway, what can yuo say about the statues that Mayor BF is putting along major Marikina roads?

Ooops! Forgot to include in my previous tag that I'm proud to be a Marikeño. Napaayos kasi ni Mayor BF yung ibang kalsada natin at kahit papaano eh napapanatili ang kalinisan ng ating kapaligiran. :) Pati nga naman ang mga palengke natin eh umaayos at nababawasan ang hindi kaaya-ayang amoy.

Oo nga pala, sino sa inyo ang nakakita/nakakuha/nakatikim nung candy na pinamigay ni BF dati? Yung may picture niya niya tapos pinapakitang nagtatapon sa basurahan. Sa pagkakaalala ko eh ipinamimigay ng libre yun para makita kung merong mga taong nagkakalat o nagtatapon sa kung saan-saan. Bale dapat walang makikitang gan'*** candy wrapper na nakakalat para masabing disiplinado ang mga tao at marunong magtapon sa tamang lalagyan ng basura. Basta parang gan'un. :yum:

I'm from Marikina too. I think BF is the best mayor the city ever had. Ang laki ng improvement ng Marikina noong sya ang umupo sa pwesto. Even my parents praise him to other people, and they rarely do that! Ang bilis rin ng service sa government offices dito. And mabilis rin ng 'emergency hotline'.. ano nga bang number non? Well, anyway, I think BF made this rule that the ambulance/police/etc should be at the scene within this certain time limit (5 minutes ba?). Tapos when they don't, patatalsikin yung whole squad, no questions asked. Ok noh? Kaya ang bilis tuloy nila. May disiplina na (kahit forced).

Tapos ang ganda ganda na ng Marikina River. When I was little, I never noticed the River. Ngayon, whenever we pass by the bridge, maslalo na sa gabi, talagang tinititigan namin. Ang ganda na kasi.

Sana maging flood proof nalang ang Marikina. Perfect city na.

Guys have you seen the change of the colors of Marikina? Diba dati all-green pero nayon yung mga posts kinukulayan na ng half-green half-pink....symbolizing the color of BF's wife Marides....I think her market positioning nga is something like this..."Marides...and Bulaklak ng Marikina." I lived for almost 15 years sa Marikina, San Roque, E. dela Paz Street. Lahat ng kamag-anak ko doon nakatira. Sira-ulo lang iyong uncle ko, pinagbenta yung bahay namin na minana pa namin sa lolo ko.Na-trauma talaga ako pero iniisip ko naman kung hindi kami lumayas iba rin ang buhay ko ngayon. Sana wala ako sa kinalalagyan ko ngayon hindi ko rin siguro makikilala ang maggiging asawa ko.

I'm not originally fr Marikina (Roxas Dist. QC - ne1?) p'ro meron 'kong sis (she's lived there since '65) & her family - sa J.P.Rizal St., Sto. Nino - malapit sa Punerarya Guzman - backyard nila 'yong ilog close duon sa parang gazebo na naka-feature sa Marikina website. My niece & her husband own a store @ Provident Village, Tanong, our Mom is buried @ Loyola Cemetery; & stay w/ 'em most of time during Balikbayan. So, can/proud to say have a close affinity w/ Marikina - adopted city namin, ika nga. :)

Have very good impressions of city - malinis, friendly/always smiling locals, daming kanto pagkain - we were initiated to sisig/isaw/zigzag. :) But best thing done at namangha ako ay maganda 'yong ginawang pasyalan/BVM grotto duon sa baybayin ng ilog, similar to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas (never been there yet - just fr pics). During my '94 Balikbayan Pasko may mga events duon during the eves - hilite was a performance presented by the gay community - but last year walang happening duon - we were disappointed. So, nag-browsing/hanging out na lang kami sa Santa Lucia/Riverbanks Mall.

Perhaps, next time my son & I visit Pinas - hope/wd like 2 EB w/ some of ya.

Marikana WAS a sleepy town before, but now it IS a model city. The deveopments in the past 10 years are just so incredible. Typically if you ask Filipinos what they thought about the city they live in they would say that they don't like it there. Ask a Marikeno what they thought about their city, more often than not you would hear pride in their city!

Did you ever notice that once you drove out of Marikina the roads would become pot hole ridden? Did you notice that there are so many trees planted around Marikina? Did you notice that most of the banketas in Marikina are cemented and painted the same color? Did you notice how clean Marikina is? Did you notice the significant decrease of squatters in Marikina? Did you notice that garbage collectioin in Marikina is very efficient? I have noticed all these things and so many other things! I believe these are the reasons why Marikenos have so much pride in their city!

Marikina has proven that the Filipino can be progressive.
I hope that other mayors follow the lead of mayor BF.
There is hope for the Philippines, all we need are the right leaders!

Alam nyo, dapat talagang i-adress ni MCF ang problema ng trapik sa may Riverbanks. It's not doing any good to Marikina. When entering Marikina, people from QC are greeted by traffic jam as early as the Barangka flyover. Tutal ang mga Carlos (family of Marides) naman ang owners ng Riverbanks they should coordinate with the police to solve the traffic problem. Bottle-neck ang lugar na iyon diba? Pagkalagpas wala nang traffic.

If the rate of progress in Marikina stays the same we will no doubt out class all the cities in the Philippines very soon! Watch out QC, Makati, Cebu and etc. Marikina is going to get ya! Bakit ganoon ano, its seems like Marikina is so insulated from all the problems the Philippines is going through. Look at the trash situation, sows halos lahat na lang ng cities sa Metro Manila nilalangaw na dahil di makolecta ang basura nila.

You know what, you're very right! While other cities and municipalities are finding ways to solve their biggest problems, Marikina found a simple solution to all of them--DISCIPLINE. BF and MCF envisions Marikina to be a 'little Singapore' in the future, and with the way things are going in our city, that's not far from being a reality.
