I'd like to share a little story, though. I have to give directions to everyone wanting to visit us for the first time. If I use the traditional method (Shaw Blvd towards EDSA, right on 9 de Feb, or EDSA towards Makati, right on Libertad, etc) they get confused.

But if I say "down the street from the mental hospital", they get it every time.

Don't you just love this town?

Here's a question for you, especially sofia g9.

At the corner of Dansalan and Arayat there is a little plaza with a "monument" which resembles either a mountain or an asymmetric, oversized breast. What is this monument for?

that's what we call the "triangle". The "monument" was constructed last 1998 (forgot the month). Actually it was supposed to be a fountain but due to the lack of water during those times ( remember when you had to wait for 7pm para lang makapag-ipon ng tubig? or makaligo?or makapuno ng tanke?) kaya naging idle siya...there's also a pond which goes around the foot of the fountain but there were kids who take their bath in the pond (anubayun) kaya tinangalan ng water kesa may madisgrasya...
also, ngayon sementado na yung triangle and nilagyan na ng upuan around the fountain... :)

Kaya siya mountain, kase if you could recall lahat ng names ng street dito sa barangay namen ay mga mountains (dansalan, pulog, mayon, makiling, arayat, etc) ;)

My place is somewhere near Toyota Shaw and i have always considered it a very strategic location. Malapit sa lahat ng important places. Basta, it will always be Mandaluyong for me. Plus it never gets flooded there. :)

I too am from Manda and my family roots has been there before the japanese occupation and I still have family there and visit occasionally.

Mandaluyong. the legend goes, comes from combining the names of two lovers, Manda and Luyong. manda was the lovely daughter of a barangay chieftain; Luyong was a Maharlika despised by Manda's father. The two were deeply in love, but as was the custom that time, Luyong had to compete with other young men vying for Manda's hand in a series of contests. Luyong emerged the victor. After the couple were married they settled in a place that would carry there names: Mandaluyong.

There is another version of how Mandaluyong got its name. During Spanish times, the place was called Mandaluyong because its rolling hills resembled giant ocean waves. The 'n' was later affixed by some Spanish writers.

Carlo's Old Recipes. We are great fans and eating there is so convenient because it's near the office, and sofia g9's house, too. We have gotten to know the owner, who is a really nice guy. Prices are very reasonable, and (I don't know if this is a plus or minus for you) the portions are on the small side.

One tip: if you're going for lunch, show up early (11:00 or so) or late (after 1:30). He only has eight (I think) tables and one waitress, so the place tends to get busy.

Neptali A Gonzales (1923-2001)


Former Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales of Mandaluyong City passed away yesterday at the Makati Medical Center. He was 78.

At the time of his demise, Gonzales was President of the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation and official of various corporations, associations and professional organizations like the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).

He is survived by his wife Candida and children Myrna Cuejilo, Sorohayda Mendoza, Rhodora Beleno and House of Representatives Majority Floor Leader Rep. Neptali M. Gonzales II of Mandaluyong City.

His body lies in state at the family residence at 539 San Joaquin St., Plainview, Mandaluyong City.

Interment will be announced later.

Leaders of the country mourned the passing away of Gonzales, describing him as "distinguished statesman and exemplary leader."

Senate President ProTempore Manuel Villar Jr. issued the following statement: "I join the nation in mourning the passing away of a distinguished statesman and exemplary leader. Mr. Neptali Gonzales has truly made a significant mark on the nation and I, along with his friends and loved ones and those he has served faithfully, pray that his soul will find lasting peace with our Creator. He was an extra-ordinary Filipino who lived a full life in service of the nation. His demise is truly a loss to the nation."

Gonzales was born on June 10, 1923 in Mandaluyong.

Sen. Gonzales was a really great man. Napakabait niyan. Sobra. The smallest things natatandaan nya tungkol sayo. It's really sad na wala na siya.
He was one the most eloquent speakers that I have ever heard. He was a very thoughtful man. I remember, a few months after my father died, nakita niya kami (my brother and I) sa isang function, he approached us and kinamusta niya mom ko then he sat with us and conversed for a few minutes before going back to his table. I was very touched.

May his soul rest in peace.

We run a appliance center at Boni Avenue, we sell TV, VHS, VCD, aircon, ref etc...any electronic appliances...u may look for joel alias who happens to be the mktg. asst. at 533-3614 or 533-3587. yung bulalohan sa boni ay yung RJ's andun pa rin at masarap parin ang bulalo although may puwesto sa harapan na adobo house... at patok pa rin ang isawan sa may paraiso malapit sa san felipe parish

Dito kami located sa Balagtas along Shaw Blvd. Miss ko na ang dating Mandaluyong yung wala pang masyadong dayuhan at sasakyang dumadaan sa mga maliliit na streets.

Ngayon lahat ng mga kalye dito eh trapik na dahil lahat sila gusto pumunta sa Makati... Mandaluyong ang pinakamagandang location sa lahat... Kaya nga ang mahal ng real estate tax dito eh... Gitna sa lahat... QC, Makati, Manila... maraming pwedeng lusutan... lahat halos ng malalaking malls nasa Manda... bigating schools nasa Manda rin...

Sana lang eh ang munisipiyo natin pagandahin... katulad sa marikina... kaka-depres kasi kapag pupunta ka sa city hall natin makikita mong maraming tambak tapos magbabayad ka ng pagkalaki-laking tax...
