Asan na ma tao from Europe? Balik kayo dito! ;) To y'all who live in EU, how has euro affected your life(style)? It sux!!! Dati-rati may natitira pa sa sweldo ko. Eh ngayon kulang pa. Pero mas mataas ang euro than USD last Friday. Do you think euro will be used as world's monetary unit instead of USD?
C'mon guys! Share your views naman.

Where in Europe are you living? Yeah my friends in Vienna are complaining about the Euro. Medyo mahal nga daw. I still kept 40 schillings as a souvenir. hehehe

Hi! I'm hoping to go to europe this coming summer,, and I was searching online for really realy cheap accomodations.. then i heard about homestays and stuff.. i mean, some offered around 4 euros a day.. is that crap or what? as i get it, homestays are when a 'host' lets you stay at their home or sumthing for a low price, is that it? there were ads around, but most prefered a certain nationality, like , "french boy welcomes a british boy to learn english aged blah blahblah.." and i dont get my hopes up that there are people welcoming filipinos around at the state we're in,,,, or are there? or are there any filipinos outthere whos willing to be a "host" to me?? i'll be good, promise..
if anybody is seriously willing, please email me at ikalwewe@yahoo.com

Well, from what I understand, homestays are places where students, such as exchange students, stay when studying in that country. I'm not sure homestays are for backpackers or tourists, since if that's the case, then it's no different than a Bed and Breakfast.
If you want cheap accomodation in Europe, try looking at hostels. Make sure you get a Youth Hostel Card to get discounts on hostels. Plus, if you're thinking of getting a EurailPass or a EuroPass, you can take overnight train rides and use that as a place to crash.
Anyways, if you are thinking of backpacking across Europe, I did start a thread somewhere in the Travel and Lifestyles board, which you can check out. There were some expert backpackers who were kind enough to answer my questions and I'm sure they would be glad to answer yours.
Anyways, have fun!!
Check out this link (http://www.iyhf.org/home_gb.html) for more information on hostels.

 HELLO THERE, Happy new year to all of you. Please count me in. Im from Athens, Greece. Just to answer the question about the word FILIPINO in the greek dictionary. Thats very TRUE, its sad but what can we do, thats the truth. But I should tell you people that the greeks do respect the filipinos here because they all know how hard working we are and this race didnt give any problem in their society.
Im working in a ship travelling mediterranean but most of our time is spent here in greece.
I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THIS TO ALL THE FILIPINOS IN EUROPE: Lets make the european feel how good filipinos are. We can make it by giving them acts of kindness, gentleness and honesty.

Hey qtip_xc,
Well, sad to say i don't live in Paris anymore. Putain cette ville me manque! I moved to Göteborg September last year to live with my boyfriend now husband.
I lived there for 7 years... in Boulogne-Billancourt. November 2000 i moved 300 meters away from La Tour Eiffel at the 15ème Arrondissment.
I studied there at Université de Paris V- René Descartes-Sorbonne, Sociology.
So yer going to study in Sorbonne ei? You going to study Cours de civilisation française de la Sorbonne is it that?
Goodluck then!
Who do you live with there? Are your parents working in Paris or something? Or you just moved there to study French? ;)
How are the bourgeois in the 16th treating you... hehehe~

i know some people in the music business here in europe. they're looking for asian-afro-latino talents but they're rather interested in what you would call "world music" - that is, contemporary music with folk, traditional or ethnic influences from various music cultures. something new, innovative and exotic to the european ear. i've listened to a couple of your artist's mp3s and they sound more american than filipino. so i don't really know if it's a good idea to recommend her. but i'll try anyway. good luck.

I'm dying to go and eventually live there, since it is voted, for the fourth time, as the best place to live in. Hope to hear from you soon!

hi! i'm desperate to learn basic swedish. my bf's 5-year-old son is coming home from sweden first week of june and the kid's mom told me that the little boy doesn't know how to speak any other language aside from swedish. he just laughs whenever she tries to teach him english or tagalog...
i want to learn the basic conversational phrases. i tried to look for a swedish-english dictionary but i couldn't find one. i surfed the net for swedish-english phrases and i was able to get something but i'm so confused--dunno just how to read them, moreso, say them! :)
i'd really love to ask a favor from anybody here who could at least teach me a little swedish...i dunno how i could be able to pay you but i'm begging you guys...i really need to learn the language...
thanks.

Hi Guys,
me and my wife will be going to europe this coming august our main destination is cologne, germany and later we'll visit italy then sweden. this is some kind of tour and also we would like to scout for some greener pasture... me and my wife are both profesionals here in the philippines and we would like to migrate in europe in the near future. I have a MBA degree and a solid IT experience of almost 9 years. My wife is lisenced Elementary school teacher for 3 years and a Registered Nurse.
I would like to seek some help from you guys if you might know some prospective employer that we can submit our Curriculumn Vitae, and maybe we can arrange the interview while we're in europe. We are willing to start all over again.
If you think you can shed as some help of anykind please contact me on my email noel@tarlac.com
I'm looking forward for your favorable response. Thanks.....

Hello people in France!
How are you guys? Could anybody be kind enough to read this story please?
I have a friend who works for a multi-national company in the Philippines. Her boyfriend is from her office' branch in France (he is French).
In May this year, she processed her papers to visit France because her boyfriend has been wanting to introduce her to his family. Unfortunately, her application was denied because I think the embassy said "due to the terrorism problem in Europe, there is a very strict immigration policy (to the tune of something like "who is crazy enough to come here in times like this, unless those with bad intentions?").
Anyway, I feel disheartened to see them losing hope & their beautiful relationship beginning to drift apart because it seems like their wish to be together is next to impossible.
My friend needs more info & she does not know where to start, who to ask for immigration advice etc. Could anybody offer any ideas?
Your reply/advice will be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much...

Bonjour mes Kabayans!
A bientot!

simpleonly, I had the same experience than your friend... I was denied the first time I applied for a visitor's visa... pero magkaiba ng reason... yung sa akin... coz my fiancé and I we're both students pa.. and they didn't trust our relationship... even if 3 yrs na kami...
A bientot!

In May this year, she processed her papers to visit France because her boyfriend has been wanting to introduce her to his family. Unfortunately, her application was denied because I think the embassy said "due to the terrorism problem in Europe, there is a very strict immigration policy (to the tune of something like "who is crazy enough to come here in times like this, unless those with bad intentions?")....
simpleonly, I had the same experience than your friend... I was denied the first time I applied for a visitor's visa... pero magkaiba ng reason... yung sa akin... coz my fiancé and I we're both students pa.. and they didn't trust our relationship... even if 3 yrs na kami...

i had the same experience on my 1st attempt to get a schengen visa. i guess it's not a good idea to declare you're w/ a french guy unless you're married na. they will really not believe you are partners, they seem to be assuming it's just an arrangement to help the girl go to france. but once you're married to a french it's very fast & easy to get a visa, you're not automatically a french citizen though (contrary to what some people think).

Hello, I am not from Europe pero pwede sumali? My boyfriend is Danish. He is living in Copenhagen. When we get married we are planning to live in Malmo, Sweden, just across the bridge from Copenhagen. Meron ba jan sa inyo taga Malmo or somewhere near? :)

Hi Rafiosa and to all in France
I don't live in that country. I come from accross the channel- England, London in particular. My eyes caught your messages because I am married to a French expat. We live in London. We visit Nantes and Paris a few times during the year. I like Paris but I like Nantes more. We've also been to Brittany. Next year, we'll be going there again.
I can see that your French is already good. How long have you been learning? How is it living in Nantes?

Salut Krizzie!
ça va? :) I'm still learning french right now... I started learning french when i was still in the Philippines, in alliance Française, for 9 months... then I came here in france in 2003... at first it was hard for me to speak french but now, it became natural na. Do u speak french? now that my french is getting better, my english is getting worse... and my tagalog din pala since i don't speak it anymore... minsan lang when I call back home...
Nantes is a very nice city, i agree with you, I prefer here than in paris :) I lived in Rennes din for a year. I just wish i could meet some pinoys here... We met some couples like us (french-pinay) here in Nantes but they are parisians... they just came to visit their families here in nantes.
so you're in london pala..; i've never been there yet, hopefully soon! how is it like there? do u plan to live here in france later?

Salut Rafiosa
I've been to Nantes twice but did not see any Filipinos. Just hang on na lang, malay mo you will bump into some in the near future. Meanwhile, best thing is keep on learning French. Integrating with them would only be possible if without the language barrier.
Moi, naku. I've been telling my husband 'ok ok I will learn French' pero tamad palagi ako (he he) to bring my books and tapes out. I know petit peux and can understand some words. But I know that I will really have to learn seriously at some point. Otherwise my little 2 yr old will speak better French than me. he he
We'll be going to Nantes and Isle de Sein next summer. It's only 1 hr and a bit from London Gatwick.
So my regards,
Kris

pasingit sa usapan nyo ha. i'm just glad di pala ako nagiisa who's married to a french but doesn't speak french yet (to think that we've been together for 4 1/2yrs!). we're an expat din kasi (not in england though) so i don't feel the need/pressure to speak french yet. i have a lot of books & tapes also, but so far i still couldn't bring myself to sit & learn. my hubby is lazy nmn to teach me. 1 day he'll start, the next day he'll stop. i think it's best to attend a course. i attended a beginners' course already & was doing great, but i wasn't able to attend the next level immediately coz we went on vacation. but now that we're back i have to wait nmn for the next course schedule. due to the long interval i feel i forgot some of what i've learned na. hayyy!!! i do believe nmn we'll speak the language din in due time. goodluck to us! cheers!

Hi Annecy
I envy those who can speak another language. French is lovely to hear. I sometimes like to ask my hubby to read aloud when he is reading his French book. It's like music to the ears. he he- French, that is.
Where do you live? I think that if you live in a French speaking country, you really cannot get away without learning the language. Luckily for me, my hubby and his family and friends all speak reasonable English, but still it would be nice if I am able to share conversations without translations.
it's really best to go to a class to learn, I think. regards

when i came here in France, hirap na hirap ako sa french... i was thinking na sana sa english speaking country na lang kami tumira... para mas madali for me... my inlaws don't speak english... kaya tagalang pinilit kong matuto kaagad... right now, i realized how lucky i am to live here... kse talagang naging natural na sa akin mag french... i never imagined myself this way... ngayon sinasabi ko sa sarili ko buti na lang nandito ako... I'm really happy coz now I can say "I speak french!" et oui! je parle français même si des fois je fais des erreurs :)

haha! moi aussi! sarap pakinggan, hirap bigkasin! but practice makes perfect, though i'm not practicing yet, hehe. still, i'm not losing hope :) .
Where do you live?
somewhere not as exciting as london, i think. we're in dubai.
I think that if you live in a French speaking country, you really cannot get away without learning the language.
exactly. that's why i think it could be nice if we move to france asap. that way i'll be forced to learn & speak french. i went to stay alone w/ my in-laws for almost a month & we managed to communicate w/ a dictionary. i think if i stayed longer w/ them i would have learned to speak a lot more than what i know so far.
Luckily for me, my hubby and his family and friends all speak reasonable English, but still it would be nice if I am able to share conversations without translations.
at least they can speak a bit of english. my in-laws doesn't speak a word of it. it's really frustrating when you can't communicate directly, & it's boring to have to translate all the time.

so how did you like nantes? :)
krizziei
Aug 20, 2006, 11:32 PM
I like Nantes. The city reminds me of Baguio, except that Nantes has a river not Burnham lake, and its proximity to the beach just like baguio. The tree-lined residence areas are nice. Last christmas, we did not go out that much. We spent most of our 3-day holiday indoors (eating mostly, haha) except going to the park nearby.
My inlaws live about 15 min bus ride to the centre of Nantes. I obviously dont know Nantes. Do you live far from the centre?
Let me know if you intend to visit Londres. I'm in North London, where we just moved to 2 months ago. We used to live right bang in the centre near Big Ben, but the business of the area was just too much for me. Everywhere you turn are tourists or people working there. We're much happier in the suburb where it is residential and child-friendly.

Hi everyone...I'm Grace from Virginia amd I was just backpacking through Europe! It was the vacation I've always dreamed about and finally accomplished. I took almost a month off from work, bought the cheapest tickets I could find, and landed in London without any itinerary or accommodations. Stayed in hostels (cheap hotel) and bought rail and bus passes. I ended up going through Paris, Nice, Genoa, Florence, Rome, Venice, Vienna, random places in Switzerland, and finally back to Paris before hurrying back home in Virginia. The beautiful thing was that, as a solo traveler, I did exactly what I wanted whenever I wanted, meeting random people along the way; not a lot of tourist destinations, no heavy bags to weigh me down (though I did call my parents in the US a few times using onesuite cards, but that was it), and not even worrying about snapping pictures every few feet like everyone else seemed to be doing. Total freedom. Now I'm back at work and supposedly catching up on things. My body doesn't exactly know what time zone it's in, though, and I'm ready to put my head on my desk and sleep for the next few hours until it's time to go home again.

Any pinoys in berlin? I need info on cheap hotels near ICC Berlin for a convention this october 2007. On a tight budget and traveling with my wife and 5 year old kid. Kindly provide me info guys. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I just came from Berlin so I might have a lead for you.
Try "Hotel von Korff" -- it's located on the Western part of Berlin. Right beside a metro station "Kaiserdamm" (U2 / Red) which goes straight to most destinations on the city center without changing trains, like the Zoologischer Garten (the Berlin Zoo), Potsdamer Platz (Sony Center, most 5 star hotels and a lot of nearby Museums, Bradenburg Gate is walkable too, if I remember right).
Anyway, back to the hotel. It was booked for me by the company. I think for a Single Bedroom it cost 50 Euro max. You can't cheat by putting more people in though, since the owner is pretty hands on. The hotel is actually located on one whole floor of a standard apartment building. There's no elevator, you go up the 3rd floor. It's nothing fancy, pretty simple but clean. The owner would usually greet you in the mornings, and maybe serve you your breakfast.
So I guess a double bedroom would be about 80Euro? Maybe she'll let your kid sleep for free. ;> (don't ask me for contacts, maybe you can try google xD) I just stayed there.
Hope that helps!

hello palangga07
i live just outside Nice kaya medyo alam ko kasagutan sa questions mo.
From Nice airport to Nice proper.....
(1) may Airport bus plying from Nice Train Station/ Nice Gare Routiere (bus station) every half hour. Pay 4euros and it's valid for a day (unlimited ride).
From Nice airport to Paris...
Fly via Easyjet or TGV train. TGV stops in Cannes.
Hope this helps

Hello,
Recently, the Pinoy Penster Community website released Makabagong Pluma, a book which is a collection of English and Filipino poems by rising young Filipino poets. While the poems in this compilation can not rival those of William Shakespeare and Jose Rizal, it goes well with a cup of coffee. Be one with the Pinoy Penster Community in discovering the country's hidden mine of poets. Visit http://lulu.com/penster to purchase your copy of Makabagong Pluma.
