After 2 weeks ng pagkawala ko sa mapua ( coz of OJT) eh ang dami ng mga bagong rumors na kumalakat. Sa mga orgs ko to nabalitaan. About sa SCHOOL of EE-ECE-CoE, di na raw si engr. tablante *** dean at di na rin daw si engr, jenny de la cruz *** subject chair ng ECE. si sir Santiago na raw *** susunod na dean. Also, engr mary ann latina will be transfered to malayan college in laguna. Nagresign na rin si sir sejera and now currently working sa intel. ano ba yan, isa isa ng nawawala *** mga pader sa ECE. Kawawa naman *** mga susunod na batch...

About naman sa school of AR and ID, sinibak na raw *** dean at papalitan na raw ng iba same with the dean of school of IE. *** dean ng IE ngsalita pa raw sa gym. Medyo madamdamin daw as in naiyak daw ****.



Alam nyo ba *** kung ano *** dahilan ng mga to? cost cutting daw same with the issue don sa chief librarian ng mapua. Eh kung merong cross cutting baket *** matataas pa *** tatanggalin.Bakit *** mga pader pa. Bakit di n lang *** mga walang kwentang prof especially *** mga non-mapuan na instructor na obvious naman na wala tlgang alam don sa tinuturo nilang subject.

Para naman sa part ko eto *** pinakamasakit. Di raw kami gagradweyt ngayong august kasi raw sira *** PICC at inaayos. Walang kakwenta kwentang dahilan. Eh bakit *** pinoy idol sa PICC gaganapin kala ko ba sira un at inaayos? Daming palusot ng ADMIN kawawa **** kaming mga student.

Professors are asked to sign a "loyalty-check" form, wherein if they refuse to sign, they have no choice but to leave...

That is said to be the reason why there are professors that will b leaving by the end of this current term.

From a reliable source: 90+ faculty members (and staff) will be leaving by the end of this term.

I haven't heard any "outsider" to enter the Graduate Studies, so with the "exit" of Mapuan professors there.

On the lighter note, its better to have Atenean SLHS professors (I had one during my Sociology course 2 years ago) than those from other schools who I considered to be incompetitive since they haven't changed the notion that Mapuans are "poor" in english comprehension.

There are (current) talks of dissolving 2 library branches - Graduate School Library and Architecture Library (due to the decrease in student population).

I don't know what they're gonna do with the Archi's library but they are thinking of making the Graduate School Library as a "Journal Library".
If you can submit any suggestions/comments in our library, please feel free to say anything.
They really need "voices" from the students so as to make them hesitate in pursuing such plans.
I am really hoping that they won't push through with it.

Kahit ako naiinis. 'Coz it will be hard for me to borrow the books that I need once those books in the Graduate School Library are combined with the Circulation and Reference books.

There are books in the Reference Section (which cannot be borrowed by students) that can be found in the Graduate School Library (which I can borrow). So when it'll be combined with the Circulation and Reference Books, I can't borrow it anymore and it's a disadvantage in my part as a (Graduate) Student and so for the other students, especially of it'll be placed in the Reference Section - the forbidden section for borrowers.

Ganun din sa inyo AR people. Disadvantage sa inyo iyon lalo na kapag natuloy ang planong iyan.

The Graduate School Library will soon be closed.
The Graduate School and the Library officials have discussed the matter and they decided to close it.
But we, GS students, are appealing for a reconsideration in their decision. We are hoping that our appeal would be heard.

The usual. 'Di ganoon karami pag Mondays through Thursdays. Marami kapag Fridays and Saturdays. But ever since I get in there, a year ago, ganun na talaga siya. Actually, it's not the number of users that served as a major basis for abolishing it. It's the collection!

Well, Graduate School should always have a separate Library. Lahat ng eskwelahan dito meron. Paano sila (School of GS) magpapa-accredit, kung walang Library?

ah, ganun ba? hehe... oo, tama, sa collection, like the one on arki's, books na magagamit talaga and matetreasure mo sa profession. tipong umabot din noong 1925 or former years to it. those rare books na inimport pa from abroad or inorder pa ang limited edition. mga libro na wala sa iba.

I was informed by a librarian that Mapua imports books from abroad. Nice. They've just ordered 5000 books for Makati campus library.
But the problem there is that the books they import are not many enough.

The Mapúa Robotics Team won international recognition in the 2006 National Inventors’ Week held last November 13-17 at the Philippine Trade Training Center, Pasay City.

The team was composed of the following students: Michael S. Poblete, Ivan Karl P. De Vera, Leonard C. Canoza, Jaylord T. Jauod, Harry Balanay, Paul Kevin Diaz, and Charles S. Rico.

The Mapúan’s winning project is “The Low-Cost Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).” This innovation was designed to perform such tasks as salvaging assistance, ship hull inspection, accident investigation, toxic waste inspection, small item recovery, and oil rig pipe inspection. This Mapúa invention can go as deep as 300 feet with maximum horizontal speed at 1.18 feet/second and maximum vertical speed at 0.9 feet/second. Weighing only 4 kg, its turn rate is 45 degrees/second.

The ROV won the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Award, an international recognition given for creative research and inventions. The project won three other major awards: SIBOL Award (college level) for Outstanding Student Creative Research ( 1 st Place); Philips Most Promising Invention Award (college category – 1 st Place); and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Award (college level) for Outstanding Student Creative Research ( 1 st Place).

The Mapúa Robotics Team received the awards after a week-long exhibition of the entries of the 17 finalists.

The 5-day event was organized and sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), thru the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI).

9th Philippine Web Awards

The People's Choice Award, chosen through SMS and online voting by the public, went to The Official UNTV-37 Website (www.untvweb.com).

Named the Most Popular Website of the Year, based on SMS and online voting, was The Official Website of Ang Dating Daan (www.angdatingdaan.com)

The awarding ceremonies were held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium Podium 4, RCBC Plaza in Makati and had a live webcast at www.philippinewebawards.com.

A total of 60 websites made it to the finals. Local and foreign judges then evaluated all the finalists by Dec. 1. The scores of each finalist were then tabulated by the Isla Lipana & Co., a member firm of PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Malou Mangahas, editor in chief of GMANews.TV, and Jose Torres, the website's managing editor, received the plaque from hosts JM Rodriguez and Sheryll Crystal.

Because MGC imposed 10-word acceptance speeches, Mangahas limited herself to this sentence: "To Filipinos all over the world, this is serbisyong totoo bente-kwatro oras (true service 24 hours a day)."

Those words were awarded at the end of the ceremonies as the Best 10-Word Speech. Mangahas then made another brief speech: "Dahil hindi natutulog ang balita, ang GMANews.TV ay gising bente-kwatro oras (Because news events never sleep, GMANews.TV is on the alert 24 hours)."

Earlier in the evening three websites earned the distinction of winning both the Best Website and People's Choice Award in their respective categories:

• Schools- Mapua Institute of Technology (www.mapua.edu.ph)

• e-Government - Bulacan provincial govenrment (www.bulacan.gov.ph)

Other local government units awarded for their websites were Naga City, Lagait town in Misamis Oriental, and Infanta town in Quezon.

It was the first time in the history of the PWA that LGUs were honored. According to the PWA website, the category was included in a partnership signed between MGC, the National Computer Center (NCC), and the Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT).

Website owners consider the PWA as a stepping stone to the Annual Webby Awards, a global event that the BBC hailed as "the most prestigious award in the world."

The PWA presenters were Jaime Garchitorena and Gelli Mateo, Pinky Amador and Ibarra "Bombing" Gutierrez (MGC president and CEO of MGC) Francine Prieto and Monchito Ibrahim (president of the Philippine Computer Society).

Performing in between presentation of the awards were the Fil-Australian band DNA Rock, Helen, and Join The Club.

Recently, MGC president Gutierrez was appointed Webbys Ambassador for the Philippines. Webby Ambassadors are a group of Internet supporters and entrepreneurs in over 15 countries, serving as a "voice on the ground" in their area.

I visited the Main Library last Saturday... to my surprise, they've already brought all the books in the Graduate School!

I'm not sure of the numbers but since 2003, after 2002 (the largest batch so far), there is a consistent decline on the student population up to the latest batch (2006). As far as I can remember, TNB reported such news on one of its issues last year.

My take on that...

The administration may not admit it, but the very high school fees and the system (QuarTerm) are, undeniably, the very reasons that made the decline, aside from their excuse that most of the youth (and their parents) nowadays prefer programs that produce high volume of employment after graduation i.e., BS Nursing.

Mahal ko MIT at engineering pero parang pinagsisihan ko maging engr. because there are many engineers compare to the job availables. Kung baga hirap talaga makakuha ng work na gusto mo. Sana ibang course na lang dali na makakuha ng work then madali pa aralin kumpara sa engineering. Gaya ng CS/IT, Nursing, Business courses etc...

yea, i think our batch nga was the largest (batch 2002).. imagine sa dept ko na EE-ECE-COE tatlong batch *** orientation ksi punung puno *** gym.. well, i did see the number of enrolees decline before i graduated.. its sad to see na we've all worked so hard to keep the mapua tradition tpos sisirain lang ng commercialism ni yuchengco.. lets just hope that the next batches, even though they are smaller in numbers, would love the school as much as we did..

sayang talaga *** pagkawala ng mga profs.. lalo na si sir sejera.. bangis magturo nun.. prof ko un sa elec 2.. idol nga nmin sya ng bestfriend ko kasi super suave magturo.. as in alam nya un ginagawa nya.. he goes to class ng walang dalang lesson plan.. book lang pero *** lectures nya talagang walang mintis.. hayup sa galing..

im not in favor of hiring profs from other schools **** pa from UP pa yan o kung san mang lupalup pa.. i have nothing against other schools but they dont really have the passion for the school as much as the mapuan profs have.. how will they be able to continue the mapua tradition if they for themselves didn't experience being a mapuan.. those sleepless nights of prototypes, the 11 week long semester.. the one day solid mensuration.. hai.. i know every engineering student went thru all of this regardless what school they're from pero iba talaga pag sa mapua mo dinanas to.. iba *** aral na nakukuha mo.. that is why im not in favor of profs from other schools.. walang dugong mapuan ang nananalaytay sa kanila.. hindi nila tayo maiintindihan..

don't worry. dumaan din ako sa part na yan pero wag ka mawalan ng pag-asa. siguro may ibang pang companies na para sa'yo. apply ka lang ng apply at dadating din yung work na para sa'yo. ;)
