View Full Version : UST- source of TOPNOTCHERS in the Philippines!

Despite the Jueteng brouhaha and the plunging peso,Thomasians have reason to rejoice. For this year, UST has proven to one and all the excellent education it offers to its students. Successively, UST ruled the Board Exams for different professions. If this is any indication, UST must be considered the best school in the country. Here is the list of UST's recent conquest:

the BOARD EXAMs in MEDICINE, in NURSING,in PHYSICAL THERAPY
in NUTRITION, in NURSING, in CHEMISTRY, in MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY, and now the latest, in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING!

In the Board Exams for Electrical Engineering, UST copped FIRST AND SECOND PLACES. It has 94% passing average; and highest number of examinees (67 takers).

Can any school beat this?

Whoah !

Never mind the UAAP loss. This year UST is not playing in the hardcourt. UST prefers to play at the MINDCOURT!

After topping the MED, PT, NURSING, NUTRITION, MED TECH, BIOCHEM & CHEM, ELECTRICAL ENG'G, UST has achieved another crown of glory.

ALL IN A SPAN OF TEN MONTHS!

The top schools in the board exam for MECHANICAL ENGINEERING are the following:

With 60 and above examinees:

1) UST, 90 of 93 passed, for a passing average of 96.77%.
2) TUP, 42 of 62 passed, for a passing average of 67.74%
3) MAPUA, 109 of 172 passed, for a passing ave. of 63.37%

With 10 and above examinees:

1) UP, 10 of 10 passed, passing ave. of 100%
2) Xavier, 10 of 10 passed, passing ave. of 100%
3) DLSU, 15 of 16 passed, passing ave. of 93.75%

This shows that what UP and Xavier can produce in nine years UST can produce in ONE YEAR. If this is not excellent education, I don't know what it is.

UST is the best in the mindcourt. Let others excel in the hardcourt. We have had our time.

VIVA SANTO TOMAS!

We strike well beyond our expectation this year and we even out performed the country's top university which is UP!..Kudos to all the Thomasian Topnotchers! and to all Colleges& departments who did us very proud!

With facts&figures to back us up!.....I dont care who so long as he is a THOMASIAN!

We should pray for the FACULTY OF CIVIL LAW!that they may live up to the history & glory of past thomasian law lumanaries!...and AIM FOR THE TOP!

Still, UST has the MOST number of topnotchers last May. If you could only see the Souvenir PRogram, where I copied the names listed above.
BTW, it was only in 1996 that UST started having 99% or 98% passing rate during board exams, before it wasalways 100%. I hope batch 2001 can bring back the 100%.

UST Tops PRC Boards

According to a report released by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) report, UST is the Philippines' top private university based on its performance in board examinations from 1994-1998, placing second only to the state-run University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman.

UST recorded 12 board examinations with high passing rates in the highperforming school category.

These were: Nursing (99%), Physician (94%), Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET)-Elementary (93%), LETSecondary (92%), Physical Therapy (86%), Electronics and Communications Engineering (84%), Nutrition-Dietetics (83%), Electrical Engineering (80%), Civil Engineering (76%), Medical Technology (75%), Mechanical Engineering (64%), and Accountancy (32%).

No offense intended, I think UST could only be considered FAIR but not really GOOD in most of the programs they offer. Figures show that DLSU tops most licensure exams in fields such as engineering and accountancy. UST is barely coping these exams -- and to think it's even older than harvad. It's really quite ironic!!!

published on manila bulletin online:
HOW does your school fare, or your Alma Mater for that matter, when its graduates take the government licensure examinations also popularly known as board exams?

http://www.mb.com.ph/oped/cinco/2000/ec000329.asp

i'll summarize it for ya, poor uninformed soul:

Of the 199 "high-performing" institutions, the leading schools were the University of the Philippines-Diliman, with HPR in 16 boards; University of Santo Tomas, in 12; Xavier University and St. Louis University, in 11 boards each.

err, where's your school?

coping on engineering & accountancy exams? eks! matagal na pong outstanding ang performance ng UST in those fields (but not much in accountancy). have you heard UST's performances in other major, important board exams like nursing, P.T., medicine, education courses, bioche, chem, etc.?

UST is not overhyped that's why.

I don't think that report is very accurate. Combining ALL the different specialties makes it a little more vague.

How about posting exam ratings by course? What is the top performing school for accounting? What about medicine or Law? How about Engineering? What do you think is the national passing rate for Law? How about Nursing?

Are you going to recommend a friend to study law at UST rather than Ateneo just because it has an higher "overall" OPR? Don't you think bar exam results are much more accurate?

Are you going to recommend a friend to study medicine at the Ateneo or La Salle just because they are ranked better "overall"(undergraduate) in the Asiaweek survey?

How about this. Do you think a school has an advantage in this survey just because the school is offering more "easier" courses?

Take this simple example:
--------------
School A: 2 Courses Offered
1. Law (75% passed; 50% national passing rate)
2. ECE (85% passed; 50% national passing rate)

School B: 3 Courses Offered
1. Nursing (90% passed; 75% national passing rate)
2. Teaching (85% passed; 60% national passing rate)
3. Midwifery (95% passed; 85% national passing rate)
--------------
What school do you think will have a higher OPR?

I am a Thomasian but we have to face that we are not that competitive as ateneans and upians. Yes, our passing rate in board exams is much higher than other schools. But is that the only standard we use in guaging a school's performance?

Kudos to UST! My sisters graduated there from the College of Medicine, early 1990's.

UST is still a competitive school along with Ateneo, DLSU and UP.

In fact, many UST graduates outdo the other three schools when it comes to board exams, academic competitions, etc.

Cheers for the following courses:

Nursing - Hey, 20 years ang demand for nurses abroad ha. Mas mayaman pa siguro sila compared with the local employees who are graduates of UP, Ateneo and DLSU.
Medicine - along with UP, there is a significant number of years that UST top the board exams.
Engineering - Yes, there are shining moments for UST to be proud of.
Science, Pharmacy and Medical Technology (Main Building)
- UST is still a school to reckon with.
Physical Therapy and other Health Sciences - Health is wealth!

The education, commerce and AB courses are also in tip-top shape along with Law although Ateneo and Up should be given credit for Law.

Viva Santo Tomas and cheers for the Thomasian Filipino!

i am impressed with the performance of ust in the various government administered board examinations given out every year. :) it is a proof that they are one of the best universities in the country. i'm not a thomasian (those who frequent the uaap forum pretty would have an idea where i'm from) but i have the utmost respect to this institution and its students and alumni as well.

however i have to defend my alma mater in one post asking where my school is among those listed by the PRC to be among the top perfoming schools in terms of the board exams where they generate a high percentage of passers. my school offer courses where the graduates could opt to take the board exam after graduating. accoutancy, ece, ee, me and a few other courses. unlike ust which offers nursing, pt and other board exam courses. i hope this would shed some light regarding that remark.

peace to all. :)

hey, ndi nyo sinama *** sa occupational therapy... UST also got 100% passing mark on it, & UST grad din ang top notcher during the 2002 PT & OT board exams...

i have to admit that UST always makes a mark when it comes to all fields of licensure exams... i am a graduate of PT from another school & i respect those who are grads from here (UST)... iba talaga ang training, compared sa former alma mater ko... and kung marinig ko na UST ang nag-top, i'm not surprised... kumbaga, lumang tugtugin na yan!

i remember *** sa college of nursing, nacha-challenge *** faculty & admin nila na galingan pa lalo *** curriculum kasi bumaba *** board rating nila from 98 or 99% last yr. (m not sure with the numbers), to 93% this yr...

ACCOUNTANCY PROGRAM IN UST:

For your information, UST is the best accountancy school for past nth years under 100 above examinee category as set by PRC. For the last three years, UST was able to register an average of 50% passing rate considering that every year almost 500 (October and May) thomasians are getting the examination. This mean that UST holds the highest number of CPAs in the country today. UST (together with UP and DLSU) is highly favored by SGV, KPMG and PWC over other accountacy schools.

As compared to other school like UP and DLSU, they usualy have less than 150 examinees who are taking the exams every year, which means thay can make high percentages in board exams considering their population. In addition, UP and DLSU take their accountancy for 5 years.

Let this statement serve as a reality check for those individuals who are trying to pull down the Thomasian Community. For all you know, Sycip and Velayo is a graduate of UST.

The mere passing of upcat means a lot na un (though i dont believe by 100% na basis ng katalinuhan ang upcat).

so what if your school topped board/bar exams at one point? if your classmate topped the CPA Board, does it make you a topnotcher as well? or is it an indication of better things to come? I think it's so pathetic to brag about successful alumni and topnotchers and feel good about yourself because of the achievements of an alumnus who graduated half a century ago.

"This shows that what UP and Xavier can produce in nine years UST can produce in ONE YEAR. If this is not excellent education, I don't know what it is. "

It's an EASY education, that is.
The UP mech engg students have to work hard to earn their degrees. That's why only 20-30% of the freshman population usually get to graduate every year. All UST has done is maybe to prepared their students to pass the board exams. But the UP people have to strugle to imbibe the theories and the concepts. They didn't study mech engg not just to pass the board exams, they did more importantly and honorably because they intend to be great engineers.

Yes there is..... I did not state any facts here. All I said was intelligent opinion. And that matters. You can distort facts to support your argument. BUT! well-bulit opinions like mine can never! as in never! be crumbled..... whew!

EVIDENCE? All you have to do is to look at the mirror and I assure you, you'll find it! You are a concrete example of the many mediocrity your school exudes. Hell, and you have the guts to call me bobo. When in fact you can not even construct a sentence in GOOD and STRAIGHT ENGLISH. How pathetic. You don't even know me personally ( as if i would like to associate myself with you). Judge me bobo when you already know how to act the
opposite of what you're accusing me. I have survived the rigor of my first two years in the UPSE, got above the ave marks in my analytical subjets, (e.g. calculus, statistics, intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, fundamentals of management accounting I and II, college algebra and advanced trigonometry), active in my chosen academic org, and have cosistently mantained cum laude standing. Yes, you don't need to stoop down to reach me. What you can do is to pray to your saints (whoever they are!), so that you can at least be blessed with a small fraction of my mental capacity. Can I make a request?
Will you please continue honing your very useful skill of correcting typo errors here? pls......... i might need you someday, as my PERSONAL SECRETARY.

Have a good day!

How pathetic some people can be. Imagine, lurking here just to badmouth the institution that bears this subforum's name?

I can't help but laugh with your most recent post. Hypocrite.
If you really don't want to talk to me, then why do you always respond to my posts? Huh?

You're the exact contradiction to your school's mission.

ayos rambulan dito ah! mwehehehe! :D

anyway, back to topic. i was a graduate of UST COMMERCE 2002, daming nagtop sa CPA board exams (shempre!) na batchmates ko.

my brother was also a graduate of UST CAFA 1996 and was one of the topnotchers of the ARCHITECTURE LICENSURE EXAMS during their time (he was top 9). 4 thomasians made it to the top 10 nung time na yun.

and di lang jan..halos lahat naman ng courses sa uste, madami tayong topnotchers. we wouldnt be UST for nothing.

VIVA SANTO TOMAS!

yup, its our lady of fatima university in valenzuela city. though nasa 5-10 ang nagttop sa kanila sa nursing board exam.

Anong topnochers ??????????????????????

YELLOW nga ang kulay ninyo!!! Naninilaw na kayo sa KALUMAAN !!!!!!

HAHAHAHAH !!!!!!

Mr./Ms. Basher, stop that, please. We have proven that we can produce topnotchers eventhough our tuition is not as sky-high as other private schools.

No offense intended, I think UST could only be considered FAIR but not really GOOD in most of the programs they offer. Figures show that DLSU tops most licensure exams in fields such as engineering and accountancy. UST is barely coping these exams -- and to think it's even older than harvad. It's really quite ironic!!!

engineering...malamang, mas maganda facilities nyo po eh. tama?

fair bang matatawag ang 80-90+ passing rate ng thomasians, antaas na nun, and to think andaming students and pumapasa. so it implies na kahit maraming students and nag-aaral in a particular course, namemaintain pa rin ang quality of education...

yung ibang school, 20 na lang yung students, syempre dapat talaga magaling sila kasi mas maganda magturo pag konti and students na tuturuan, madaling tutukan

aerislair
Dec 25, 2008, 06:48 AM

pls, the way you speak reflects YOUR PERSONALITY.

let me guess, you maybe is a uneducated person.

most thomasians look up on the other three, so what?

we may be average, but look, we do our best.

I'd rather be average and proper than smart but "busabos".
