well, the 8 finalists of the recently concluded mtv vj hunt have been released....who do you think will make it??take your pick:
women:
1. Belinda Panelo (bridesmaid in the coke commercial.)
2. Lara Fabregas (tv personality)
3. Chinggay Andrada (RX93.1 newscaster, host of "the global filipino" aired over tfc)
4. Reena Cruz (tv host "The Buzz")
men:
1. KC Montero (tv personality, host of sunday variety show "sop")
2. Mo Twister (tv personality-- host of "cyberkada", "asap", and "points of view", magic 89.9 disc jockey)
3. Marc Nelson (tv personality, host of "keep on dancin')
4. Chris Dimaano (party goer, recently came out on some tv shows as guest)

personally, i'd say it's a close call between kc montero and mo twister because kc has the personality, but mo has experience in adlibbing and can carry himself well. he can also introduce videos better since he has experience over tm in introing songs.

For the female category, I would pick Reena Cruz. The other 3 naman look a bit too mature for the job.

For males I'd have to pick Chris Dimaano or KC Montero.

The Rock says it has to be Belinda Panelo. She looks like she's in her late-twenties to early thirties, but she's actually only in her early twenties. She's so cute, hyper, and very eloquent. She's not annoying or obnoxious like Mo Twister (who thinks he's God's gift to women), KC Montero (masyadong pa-cute ka, hindi ka pa fluent sa Tagalog) or Marc Nelson (that Aussie accent only hinders him for Asian audiences). Can't judge Chris Dimaano, haven't seen him in action.

Reena Cruz, while good, really turns The Rock off, maybe it's that whole "The Buzz" thing, baduy. Chinggay Andrada has that awesome deejay voice that works great on RX, and she's still very attractive, but MTV might be looking for someone younger (Chinggay's around 27 already). Lara Fabregas shares that dilemma, and she looks too Kastila, and not Asian enough for MTV.

mo twister ... contrary to The Rock's opinion, a lot of women think mo, with his boyish charm & quick wit, is god's gift to women ... much as i like looking at kc montero on tv [he's hot!], i don't like listening to him, & he can't be a vj without talking, right? ...

belinda panelo looks like she's had too much coffee, did u see her on mtv talk? she was doing like jim carrey! & sadly, i didn't find it fun/funny ... lara fabregas looks awesome & plays the bass but, judging from what i saw during the nu rock awards, kinda dull for the job ... chinggay, my male friends aver, is sexy but that's all i can say abt her ...

Let's start with the babes...

Belinda - too hyper, comes off as "trying-hard" (well, maybe she is trying hard, didn't she join this contest last year and was not chosen?)

Lara - seems intelligent, but looks too mature for the MTV audience. If there were a VH1 channel here, she'd be perfect.

Chinggay - seems smart as well, and she's got VJ written all over her in terms of looks and aura. Don't know about her age, though.

Reena - Comes off as really down-to-earth and approachable, which is what VJs should project. Also has the most "masa" appeal because of her Buzz connections.

The guys...

Mo - The male version of Belinda, but he's more popular. Sometimes, he's too hyperactive.

Marc - Bland, boring, banal. How did he become a finalist?

KC - He's goofy all right, but he doesn't seem to know much about the music biz unlike say, Mo or Chinggay. That's a disadvantage right there.

Chris - Nothing on him. I haven't seen him yet. Maybe he's the surprise package.

My guess: I like Reena and Chinggay, but my heart says it will be Mo.

Yeah ann, that "boyish charm and quick wit" let mo impregnate former actress Bunny Paras, whom he promptly left after finding the next gullible female in Kristine Hermosa. Imagine all that "boyish charm and quick wit" plastered all over Asia...

belinda will be my bet. contrary to her being hyper and everything, she can also turn on her low key and mellow. i saw that in her when she guested in partners mel and jay (which will be aired early december). she was very candid and eloquent. fluent in english yes, but she can speak filipino. plus she's hot, a major babe. Jopet Lizardo sure is lucky.

seriously, we all make mistakes ... donita had her privates plastered all over the 'net after a drunken binge with "friends" but we all forgave her, right? at least most of us, maybe ... & mo couldn't have gotten bunny paras pregnant alone ... if force was used on her, she'd have told everyone, right? ... she, too, made a mistake [not to mention a tacky choice in screen name] ...

Personally, I really don't know what they're hunting a VJ for, but in my opinion, the winner (if only one wins) would be male. The Philippines has only two shows (as of my count), which are Diyes and Talk. They are ably hosted by Shannen and Francis M. Thus, there is no need for another local VJ, unless MTV is planning to do another local show (Indonesia has around 5, Thailand 1) and they need a new VJ or if they're going to replace Shannen. Thus, the new VJ would probably be based in Singapore.
If they're looking for someone to work the Singapore beat, then they would most probably pick a guy to do that. At present, Mike is absent (he might not be coming back too), which leaves Jamie with all VJ chores. Thus, a male would be perfect to offset the presence of 4 different lady VJs.
Of the four contenders, I give my vote to Mo Twister, because of what I call an "aptitude and attitude" factor. I think he knows a lot about what VJs are supposed to do, and he has the right attitude to do the job well. If a lady has to win, my vote goes for Chinggay, but I think she needs to work on her "fun factor" more--she isn't that lively enough.

Yoshi:according to one of the finalists, the new vj will be based in the philippines muna. i just don't know for how long, basta he said na he/she will be staying here first..i agree with you when you said na they need a male vj... dami na kasing girls,eh. my bet was definitely a male. :)
ann:have you seen mo in person?he's cute kaso super small. i've seen bunny and him together b4 pa and i think bunny's a bit taller than him pa.pero if you go for the cutie little boy look, oo nga, type mo nga siguro si mo :)
The Rock: Chinggay's 25 palang... maybe ppl think she's older kc she's really mature when she talks. pero if mtv would go for a girl, siguro i'd go for either her or belinda panelo :)

Mo Twister and Chinggay would be just right.

I've seen 2 shows featuring these 8 finalists so far. They've been interviewed and have been demonstrating their talents in these shows, so I can imagine them on the job already, hosting MTV Most Wanted and such.

Chinggay annoys me to heck - she doesn't seem to have any "audience impact", and Belinda is too TH (as Spectator observed) and she *could* do fine, but she just looks too awkward at times. Chris is too Amboy, and both Lara and Marc just aren't Pinoy enough. That leaves Reena, KC, and Mo Twister as the REAL finalists for me.

The clear favorite is Mo, but somehow he's -- how can I say this? -- too cute! Cute as in the nakakatuwa, nakaka-aliw, masarap pindutin ang pisngi kind of cute. As in, the not to be taken too seriously kind of cute. Sure, he's in Points of View and he can be articulate, but he sometimes comes across as an "airhead" (no offense!). Don't get me wrong, I like Mo, but one wonders if he's the right one for the job (after all, he did say that he and Donita are best buds and he mainly joined because he hopes they can work together). He's very "ma-appeal" and popular though, that's his edge.

Reena has a certain aura - she can so very easily reach the audience. She's also cute in her own way, and seems to know a lot about local artists (artistas? :) ), so that makes her a good representative of Pinoyness right there. So what if she's pang-masa? So what if she's not as "sosy" as the other finalists? She actually reminds me of Donita in that she has that friendly air about her that people would find it easy to relate to (diba pang-masa rin si Donita when she was new to showbiz?).

KC's main attraction is his being kalog. Oh, AND his stature. He can pull off being pa-cute without looking like a wannabe, and he can be quite articulate. I don't think his lack of knowledge of Tagalog would be an obstacle, as the VJs usually speak in English anyway. He also has that friendly air about him. He reminds me of Utt (host of Bangkok Jam) because their dating is similar - approachable, fun to watch, easygoing/pala-biro, and well, good looking!

That's all, those are my 3 bets for the VJ Hunt. (Halata bang andaming napapanood? :) )

Lush: well said! i think KC and Mo do have the edge nga over the others...dunno about Reena, though... she doesnt strike me as the perfect one to attract the MTV crowd...too "masa", i guess. :)
Ann: funny mo naman ;) i wonder if Mo knows abt u???? hehehe.... pero di nga, he's really mabait, you just have to know how to get along with him. i was gonna work kasi for tm b4 (pero di natuloy.. i ended up in another station) and i met him... ok naman sha, he's just misunderstood most of the time kasi mayabang talaga dating... :)

belinda's got "it". the xfactor. although she comes across as overacting, it can be mellowed down by directors and the type of script. actors are great at being vjs (donita, francis, that wilson guy, jamie). she's pretty and has personality, gives great delivery and fresh. i hope she makes it.

i also like kc montero and lara fabregas.

the current crop is even better last yr. i think theyre even better than the current vj---shannen.

cRusty: I don't think VJs have a set script, or take heavy direction. Belinda does look "bagay" on the MTV set, but personally I think she's better-suited to commercials or acting. Or - a Palmolive VJ on Studio 23! ;)

I also agree that this year's crop is good. Sana hindi lang isa yung pipiliin, 'no?

I think half the factor is how they come across on screen, and the other half is how well they come up with ad libs and impromptu comments. My best bet is really KC, because he looks just right up there.

According to MTV insiders, the new VJ would probably be female, because they look so much better on screen. But as I pointed out earlier, I would still think the winner would be a guy because they need someone to accompany Jamie.

Yay! The winner was announced and it's... a tie... a guy and a girl... KC Montero and Belinda Panelo! :D

I think it was only right for them to have chosen 2 people because they were all pretty good, and it would've been very difficult to settle for just one new VJ. I'm glad they picked KC! :) Belinda also won another award... the "Wildest VJ" award (did I hear that right?). Mo Twister won the "Scene Stealer" award. I'm not sure who won the "Coolest VJ" award but I *think* it was Reena.

well...so it's finally over.i'd have to say that mtv made a good choice in kc...(crush ko kasi sha..hehehe :))i think he'll give the philippines a good ego boost since gwapo sha and he can handle himself well on cam.i think he'll do pretty well. belinda's okay... she's just a bit too thin for me. lalo na in person.i'll just have to wait and see how she does on mtv. i feel bad for mo twister,though :(... everyone was expecting him to win kasi so it kinda got his hopes up pero knowing him,he'll survive. he has a lot of things up his sleeve anyway...buti kung he's not that busy like chris dimaano... :)sayang rin si chinggay. pero she's being so professional abt. it kaya i guess it's okay even if she didnt win.nice talaga that girl :)i just hope kc and belinda do well...sana palitan na nila yung mga nakakainis na vj sa mtv...and i know you know who i mean :) :) :)
