Rizal named ‘NC’ venue

from www.gameface.ph

The National Collegiate Athletic Association Management Committee (ManCom) recently gave the refurbished Rizal Memorial basketball court a passing grade after inspecting it as the venue for the basketball and volleyball events of the 82nd NCAA season.

"I highly recommend the use of the Rizal Memorial basketball court as the venue of the 82nd NCAA," said NCAA ManCom Chairman Bernie Atienza, who was satisfied with the condition and appearance of the renovated court and was doubly pleased after the Philippine Sports Commission guaranteed to install an air-conditioning system.

comment: grabe! ang laki ng pondo na nakuha ng benilde for this coming ncaa season ito lang na-afford nila new look & improved rmc. kahit lagyan nila ng aircon yan the fact is rmc pa rin yan. feeling ko once in a lifetime na lang tayo makakanood ng quality ncaa games sa mga bigger venues. sana sa championship laruin sa araneta.

kaya bang punuin ang araneta for regular season?

nag improve naman yata ang RMC..

mas accessible ang RMC sa lahat ng schools.. esp. the host school.. :)

gandang balita yan. sana pati final four at championship sa rmc na rin gawin para mas thrilling. this will bring back memories of all the exciting college games from the 60's to the early 90's. im sure very exciting ang season 82 ng ncaa especially since benilde ang host.

animo benilde.

mas gusto ko pa rin yung nag-host kami last season. for sure aabot na ng 70 pesos ang ticket ngayon sa rmc, sa reserve then 50 sa gen ad and 90 sa box.

I don't know but I think it's true, together with the UAAP Volleyball, NCAA Volleyball will be moved to January 2007 for good. The move was for the TELEVISION COVERAGE of ABS-CBN and to make money of course since Volleyball events will no longer be free for both leagues. However, UAAP Volleyball will be in the Blue Eagle Gym while NCAA Volleyball will be in Rizal Coliseum.

Anyways, Rizal has improved actually in terms of appearance. Everyone was suspecting Rizal to be the venue for Season 82 already since the host school is near it. :)

rmc? imo, cuneta is a better venue. bigger capacity + aircon.

In my opinion, its a bit hard to have Araneta as the venue for all games since the crowd support of the NCAA schools is not enough to fill up the seats of the Araneta Colliseum.

Sa RMC ba napupuno? Maybe yes especially if its semis or finals already. But the important thing is that Araneta must be the venue every Opening, and Cheerdance Competition.

Its good to know that RMC already renovated. Its a good news for the 82nd season!

Did Benilde request this one or talagang scheduled for renovation ang RMC?

RMC was renovated last year, March-April 2005.

Sana malaki ang improvement ng RMC. At siyempre, di rin ako papayag na sa RMC gagawin ang Cheerdance competition pati Final Four up to the Finals. :D

^Hehe. Syempre, if you want to require your students to attend to the games of your team, as host, you have to pick a venue that's near. So it's just okay for them. Hehe.

Kahit saan naman yan, manunuod pa rin naman ako. Hehe.

However, I think there will be changes. I think NCAA's planning on grabbing the Saturday or Sunday slot since UAAP will only cover two days per week. I think getting Saturday for NCAA will be a good idea. :)

If for a moment we can set aside the RMC's condition, it actually has a better location than the Astrodome. The LRT-Vito Cruz station is literally just at the corner. Madaling puntahan. Even the alumni will find it convenient not to bring thier vehicles.

Now, to its actual condition.

I was at the RMC this Feb for the 2006 Nat'l Student's B'ball C'ship when FEU and San Beda won the c'ship in the Srs and Jrs division.

Okay na ang RMC. May tubig na sa mga comfort rooms! Wala ng amoy yung sahig sa ilalim ng mga seats at di na malagkit. Maaliwalas na rin sa loob. The improvements were brought about by our hosting of the last SEAGames. It served as venue for Gymnastics. I just hope they maintain it well.

But I doubt if the air-conditioning units will be installed before the start of Season 82. I just dont trust government agencies, in this case the PSC, to be faithful to their own words.

The sad thing here is, after CSB enters into a contract with PSC, the latter then gives an alibi for the late installation of the air-cons. By then it will be too late for CSB to go back to Astrodome.

Di ako sang-ayon sa opinion na sa Araneta ang regular venue. It is too expensive and too big a venue. Kahit nga ang UAAP di kayang punuin yan on a "regular gameday". Tama lang ang RMC or Astrodome for the elimination round games.

I hope it is true that the NCAA will get 1 of those weekend slots.

Ang usapin rito will be on the TV coverage.

Will the UAAP willingly give up one weekend tv broadcast?

I hope someone in the know can tell us how this is arranged.

If the NCAA or host/CSB sez we will have one weekend playday, is Studio23 obliged to make the arrangements? Or the NCAA/ and host school FIRST SEEK THE CONSENT OF THE CARRYING STATION before it actually decides on scheduling weekend game?

I think UAAP will only take the Thursday and Sunday slot. Three games will be played each day. Ewan ko pero kasi nung suspended ang Adamson and 7 teams are only in the UAAP, there are only 2 days of UAAP per week. It still depends on the schedule of UE and the verdict of the Taft Issue. So might as well, baka three games per day ang mangyayari for both Thursday and Sunday for UAAP. :) Giving the chance for the NCAA to have Saturday and cancelling Monday as one of their playdays.

About the crowd, I don't know but the reason why NCAA students aren't going to the venues is because maybe Monday, Wednesday and Friday are schooldays so it's hard. If for example, NCAA really takes the Saturday slot, then, who knows, the crowds of NCAA might increase and might even beat UAAP. It still depends on the plans of UAAP, NCAA and ABS-CBN. :)

ABS-CBN, starting next year, will also cover Women's Volleyball (Eliminations, Semis and Finals) and Men's Football (Finals only) Games. :)

I believe everyone would like to have Araneta Coliseum as the venue for all the games BUT the NCAA cannot guarantee that every game at least 75% of the seats will be occupied.

Accessible ang Araneta because of the inter-linking MRT stations for Aurora Blvd. and EDSA. Sufficient parking space and lots of place to have a quick snack.

I sure hope the Final Four and Finals will be held at the Araneta.

Nung na-suspend ang AdU, nasa Silverstar pa ang coverage ng UAAP games and if I am not mistaken they still followed their skeds at that time. Anyway, hintayin na lang natin mga announcements.

Regardless of the tv coverage, i think it's better if the NCAA scheduled weekend games. That's the only chance for NCAA faithful who have jobs during weekdays to see the games live. I for one miss the NCAA games coz lahat ng games nila is on weekdays.

I was a part of the pool of correspondents of one major daily broadsheet during the SEAGames. At one time, I was tasked to cover Aero Gymnastics and the venue, yes, was Rizal Memorial. Halos walang pinagkaiba kumpara dati. It's still freakin' hot! Other than that, ganun pa rin ang mga upuan. Nakakapagtaka lang kasi ang nasabing RENOVATION ay 'yung mga walkways sa loob ng Rizal Memorial (dugouts, CRs, etc). The only plus factor of Rizal Memorial is that it is much more accessible than Cuneta.

ayt here are some news...
cuneta will be renovated...kaya ang huling laro ng pba sa eliminations (or classification phase) is on march 31...mga two months and by june, ready na siya...hindi pa naman daw closed ang doors ng ncaa to bring the games sa cuneta...

i just hope na matuloy ang paglagay ng aircon sa rizal...siguro ang set-up ng aircon units ng rmc, just like sa san andres gym...ako, kung hindi puwede ang rizal, why not sa ninoy aquino...okay na ninoy, aircon naman...

By the looks of things, jancarlo, I disagree with your dates. If ever the UAAP will only play for two days, it is likely that they will opt to play on both Saturday and Sunday. I don't think the UAAP will ever want to give up the Saturday and Sunday games, because these dates are the ones that guarantee audiences. And if the information I have is correct, the TV ratings of the UAAP as well as the advertising revenues are considerably higher than the NCAA's.

Of course, you did bring up the problem of some teams having to play in consective days. I think the three games per day may solve this. Or, they'll have to make the season longer.

About the crowd, I don't know but the reason why NCAA students aren't going to the venues is because maybe Monday, Wednesday and Friday are schooldays so it's hard.

This may be true.

Of course, I still don't see why the NCAA can't opt to have Saturday games in the morning or in the evening. It's still possible to get TV coverage if the games start at say, 8am. It'll be like watching the NBA on cable. Nothing's stopping the NCAA from having games on Saturday, if it means ticket sales.

If for example, NCAA really takes the Saturday slot, then, who knows, the crowds of NCAA might increase and might even beat UAAP. It still depends on the plans of UAAP, NCAA and ABS-CBN. :)

Well, the crowd will most likely increase in number if ever the NCAA decides to have Saturday games.

I don't think any crowd is going to top a packed Ateneo-La Salle championship match in terms of sheer number of people, though.

ABS-CBN, starting next year, will also cover Women's Volleyball (Eliminations, Semis and Finals) and Men's Football (Finals only) Games. :)

Not really. Most of the NCAA schools sometimes require their high school students to watch the games. It's part of their PE requirments. That's how pathetic most schools in the NCAA are. Well, many schools in the UAAP also require attendace except for Ateno and La Salle. UE, during thier game against San Beda in the HAIL finals, actually required their students to attend the game inside their own gym. That's pathetic.

The NCAA gallery is mostly composed of impressionable high school students, and some hoodlum type college fratmen jerks, whose goals are to shout profanities and exhibit their crass personalities. The NCAA maybe able to produce good basketball players, but don't expect much from the crowd. Too bad for Benilde and San Beda.

:D

As I said, in 1994, when Adamson was suspended, there are three games per day and the days were Saturday and Wednesday/Tuesday.

Is this for both leagues?

Yeah. I wrote to Studio 23 thru e-mail, the person said that they are thinking of covering the whole season of Women's Volleyball and the Finals of Men's Football and Women's Badminton for both leagues. :)

Hehe. I suggest ABS-CBN install another network which is for sports only. :)

THE National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) gave the Ninoy Aquino Stadium a passing grade after league officials conducted an ocular inspection the other day in preparation for its 82nd season.

The stadium will be the regular venue of both the basketball and volleyball competitions after the oldest collegiate tournament in the country opens June 24 at the Araneta Coliseum.

“We’re very satisfied and happy we’re returning to the venue after seven years,” said NCAA Management Committee (MANCOM) chairman Bernie Atienza of host school College of St. Benilde.

The last time the NCAA played at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium was in 1999. It transferred at the age-old Rizal Memorial Stadium in 2000, before holding its games at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City last year.

The NCAA signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), which controls both the Ninoy and Rizal stadiums, for the use of the facility.

Playing at the Rizal Memorial Stadium is still an option for the NCAA, according to Atienza, but only after the installation of air condition units at the said venue.

Meantime, the NCAA Policy Board, headed by Bro. Dodo Fernandez of St. Benilde, and MANCOM has solidified ties with Sonia Trading, official distributor in the country of Mikasa basketballs and Molten volleyballs.

In its meeting yesterday, the NCAA approved the use of Mikasa as the official basketball for the 28th year, while Molten will be the official volleyball.

The NCAA will hold a kick-off party on June 20, 8:30 a.m. at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium where all student athletes, coaches, officials from the eight participating schools are expected to attend the affair.

On June 15 and 16, the NCAA, in partnership with the Department Of Health (DOH), will conduct doping test on all athletes in preparation for the 2006 season.
