We're introducing another small segment into the forum. If you have any questions, like the title or the artist of that song you can't seem to remember, or are looking for certain trivia about your favorite singer or tune, post them here, and we'll try to answer them for you. Or better yet, if anyone else knows the answers, they can post too.

I always catch these songs at CT Lite 88.3, unfortunately I can't catch the title and artist, see if you can decipher it through the lyrics...
1. "...being with you, even the rainy days seem fine/ You are an angel in my eyes (or is it 'angel in disguise'?)..."
2. "...gonna take it nice and slow/I'm in a Philly mood/ gonna hold you down..."
I know it's not much pero sana you can make sense out of it.
Another question: Did the lead singer of Gin Blossoms died of AIDS or suicide?
Mister Dean
Aug 23, 1999, 11:55 AM
I can only answer one of your questions, Jacob. Your number two question is "I'm In a Philly Mood" by Daryl Hall. It was his first solo single for the 90s, but it didn't crack Top 40.
Hope that helps. Does anyone know about the Gin Blossoms lead singer's cause of death? I didn't even know he died. Sheesh.

It's "Don't Give Up On Us" by David Soul, Hutch of "Starsky and Hutch" fame.

Ooops. I got confused. The one who killed himself was the "Hey Jealousy" songwriter Doug Hopkins, not the lead singer. Sorry.

Ada:
The Gin Blossoms broke up in the spring of 1997. Not sure why - I guess the usual creative differences. There are rumors of a reunion concert before the end of this year - supposedly on New Year's eve in Phoenix.
Where have they gone? Read on!
Robin Wilson and Phillip Rhodes have formed a new band - the Gas Giants and this group's debut album is about to be released soon. It is titled "From Beyond the Backburner." If you go to their site, www.gasgiants.com (http://www.gasgiants.com) , I think they are offering MP3 downloads of some of the album's cuts.
Bill Leen (bassist) is opening a bookstore in Arizona.
Jesse Valenzuela has helped form a new band called the Low Watts.
And Scott Johnson is now with a group called the Peacemakers.

Shine, another small bit of trivia for you: Philippine singer Zsa Zsa Padilla updated "Don't Give Up On Us Baby." If you've heard a female version over radio, that's probably Zsa Zsa. The song's propelled her album to platinum status here.
Cook, I'm sorry, I haven't heard that track yet. If you're Philippine-based and are looking for copies of the "She's All That" soundtrack, you can try any record bar. If it isn't available there, you can get a CD at CD Warehouse (they're usually very updated), Tower Records or Music One in Makati. If you still haven't found it, you can order at Jay's Dischouse at University Mall, Taft Avenue (beside DLSU's McDonald's). They can get stuff pretty quickly; they're competitively priced, too. Good luck!

My Question: Does anyone know a song which goes like this...
"I give to you my heart and soul, now I just need to let you know...
Please give me the title and the singer!
Mavi: Enrique Iglesias' song "Bailamos" is currently number one on the Billboard Singles Chart, replacing "Genie in a Bottle". The song enjoys extensive airplay on MTV, I'm surprised you haven't seen it. Anyway, I think the song's quite good.

who are the singers of "where is the love"

May i know why there was no Duran Duran release of their new album "Medazzaland" here in the Philippines?
Mister Dean
Aug 31, 1999, 09:53 AM
babes: "where is the love" is a duet between Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. It's featured on her greatest hits collection "Softly... the Greatest Hits" (or something like that. It's a great collection. Also features her Diane Warren-written duet with Maxi Priest, "Set the Night to Music."
About Enrique Iglesias, another tidbit: he beat his father to the top of the charts. Julio could only muster a No. 3 position with Willie Nelson and "To All The Girls I've Loved Before." Enrique's gone No. 1. Plus, the song is the second No. 1 single from the "Wild Wild West" soundtrack after the title single from Will Smith.
gerbs: Philippine releases of American albums can sometimes take forever (trust me. I waited months for the release of Ce Ce Peniston's greatest hits). I suggest you contact the local distributor. Warner and Sony are usually very accommodating with release dates. Especially Warner. They'll give you advance dates on all their foreign artists.
Jacob, I'm currently searching for that lyric of yours. Keep posted. :)

I'm a sucker for Billboard trivia, so here are some questions which I'd like to be answered:
Who's the youngest solo artist to make it to the top of the charts?
Which artist has had the most number one singles?
Now to make your minds work, here are some trivia questions. Kudos to those who gets the correct answers first!
Who was the only artist to reach number one in the singles chart without a recording contract?
Which song spent the most number of consecutive weeks at number 1? Clue: It's not "My Heart Will Go On"
Good Luck!
batang uliran
Sep 2, 1999, 08:07 AM
Stevie Wonder with Fingertips for youngest #1 solo artist. Michael Jackson for the youngest artist as part of a group to hit #1.
Beatles with 20 #1s for the act with the most #1 songs.
Longest I think was the Mariah Carey and Boys 2 Men duet "One Sweet Day".
You got me on the one who hit #1 without a recording contract.

Thanks for the answers! By the way, you're right, it was "One Sweet Day" which ruled the charts for 14 consecutive weeks.
Now here's a clue on the artist with no recording contract:
If she had no recording contract, then how was her song released? Think. Think!
Whatever happened to Roxette? Are they still producing albums?
Spectator: More clues please! Male or female? Jewel? Alanis? I really have no idea.
Mister Dean
Sep 3, 1999, 07:56 PM
batang uliran beat me to the others (i hate not having daily internet access :() But that artist who went to #1 without a recording contract was Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories, who reached the top with "Stay (I Missed You)." They eventually signed with Geffen Records.
Mister Dean
Sep 3, 1999, 08:02 PM
Roxette is still producing albums. Their latest album has three singles out: I forget the name of the first one, the second is called "Anyone" and the latest, I think, is called "Star." I also forget the name of the album; I'll get back to you by Monday on that. I'll also get the schedule of album releases from Octo-Arts EMI and let you know when it becomes available in Asia and the U.S. Until then, keep posted!
BTW, batang uliran, how old was Stevie Wonder when he hit #1 with "Fingertips Part One"? I always thought Michael Jackson was the youngest artist when he went to #1 with his solo song "Ben." Oh well. Guess I was wrong all this time.
batang uliran
Sep 4, 1999, 08:14 AM
Mr. Dean:
I believe Stevie Wonder was 13 years old and I think 3 months when he hit #1 for Fingertips Pt.2. Ben hit #1 when Michael Jackson was also 13 but I think Stevie has him beat by a few months.
Here's another trivia bit - the Beatles are the only act to have sold over 1 billion records, cassettes and Cds.

I'm new in this forum. You wanted the title of the song you heard in 88.3? Mister Dean got the 2nd song right. It's by Daryll Hall.
The first one is entitled "Being With You" by Cathy Dennis. It's in the album "Into the Skyline." A good album. You should hear the other song "Moments of Love."
Hey, Spectator. Just a wild guess, was it Michael Jackson's "Thiller" that had the most number 1's? Four.
batang uliran
Sep 6, 1999, 11:09 PM
spectator:
The first single to debut at #1 was "You are not alone" by Michael Jackson. If I remember correctly, there was a bit of a fuss at that time since others felt it was manipulated to get to the top in its debut week. I've been blanking on it and earlier, what I remembered was that Mariah Carey's Fantasy was the first by a female artist and the second one overall.
I've also been thinking about your album with the most #1 hits question and I don't remember if any album had 5. I do remember at least 3 albums with 4 #1s: Mariah Carey's Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston's Whitney and the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. If I recall correctly, Thriller did not have 4 #1s. If there was ever an album to have more than 4, my guess is it would be a soundtrack album I am overlooking.

Can someone explain to me why reviving a song is termed as doing a "cover"?
Mister Dean: What exactly do you mean when you say LFO had an "indie" hit? In movies, being indie is similar to having a relatively small and unknown production company to back you up. But in LFO's case, they were signed up by Arista (right?), which is not exactly a small time company.
Caramba: Are you referring to Silent All These Years by Tori Amos? I'm a Tori Amos fan, and I'm just wondering if there are anymore out there.
tr|n|ty
Oct 10, 1999, 04:33 AM
hmm yah i have to agree with Yoshi...the song by LFO was pretty big among the teenagers in the States during summer..[of course, increasing the sales of abercrombie and fitch which i may say so myself, is overpriced for something that looks like it's been used all ready] and they are in a big label, Arista. in fact, you can consider LFO a semi boy band of sorts because they didn't grow from college radio play or underground cult fan base from anywhere in the US. Many tout them as racist and sexist all around college campuses in the US.
Yoshi
Oct 10, 1999, 11:32 PM
Thanks, Tr|n|ty, but how did LFO come to be racist and sexist? Is it because of the "Chinese food makes me sick" line of Summer Girls? But I like their song, though.

the chorus goes like this:
didn't i tell you why, tell you why,
tell you why i love you?
didn't i say that i, say that i,
placed no one above you,
baby i cross my heart and hope to die,
you'll never have to question why,
till the clocks run out of time,
till the rivers all run dry,
till the stars fall off the sky..
thanx!

in your walk well, come on
I've been waitin'

come on, come on, come on little rabbit
show me where you got it
cause I know you got a habit
so tell me baby can you shake it
if I can move it with ya will you let me take it
I'll be down on my knees
screamin' take me, take me, take me, take me
I'm yours
I've never felt so out of control
you don't even know what you're doin' to me
come on and do it to me
don't cha stop

Broom - the title of Cynthia Alexander's song is "Comfort of your Strangeness"
It's "Killed by a Flower" by Billy Mann! And yes, we used to play it back in '97.
Hope this answers your question, broom.

Who knows the lyrics to Tonic's "You wanted more" from the American Pie soundtrack? Share naman, please.

PePs, I've got a copy. Drop me a line and I can record it for you. No MP3's just yet.
dantedawg, "Smooth" is a huge hit here. I know it topped LA 105.9's charts; not sure about RT. Joe?
Unless you're referring to "It Means Everything," Save Ferris' new album isn't out yet. And I have to plug. IF YOU MUST HAVE A POP-SKA ALBUM, SAVE FERRIS is the way to go. Fantastic album. Two thumbs up.
Meiji, you can check out the reggae sites on the Web. Some other worthwhile reggae artists you can check out who've had some commercial success (real reggae fans will kill me, but anyway) include Maxi Priest, Patra and Diana King.

Title: You Wanted More
Love is tragic
Love is bold
You will always do what you are told
Love is hard
Love is strong
You will never say that you were wrong
I dont know when I got bitter
Love is sure better when it's gone
Because you wanted more
More than I could give
More than I could handle
And a life that I can't live
You wanted more
More than I could bare
More than I could offer
And a love that isn't there
Love is color
Love is love
Love is never saying you're too proud
Love is trusting
Love is honest
Love is not a hand that holds you down
I dont know when I got bitter
Love is surely better when it's gone
Because you wanted more
More than I could handle
And a life that I can't live
You wanted more
More than I could bare
More than I could offer
And a love that isn't there
I gotta pick me up when I am down
I gotta get my feet back on the ground
I gotta pick me up when I am down
(Solo)
I dont know when I got bitter
Love is surely better when it's gone
Because you wanted more
More than I could handle
And a life that I can't live
You wanted more
More than I could bare
More than I could offer
And love that isn't there
You wanted more
More than I could bare
More than I could offer
Because you wanted more
More than I could give
More than I could handle
And a life that I can't live

Title: If You Could Only See
If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me
Well you got your reasons
And you got your lies
And you got your manipulations
They cut me down to size
Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me
Seems the road less traveled
Show's happiness unraveled
And you got to take a little dirt
To keep what you love
That's what you gotta do
Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
You're stretching out your arms to something that's just not there
Sayin' you love where you stand
Give your heart when you can
If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me
Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
Sayin' you love where you stand
Give your heart when you can
If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about or love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

dantedawg, Santana's album has been out since June (bumili agad kuya ko eh, hehe). It contains songs featuring Dave Matthews, Lauryn Hill, Everlast and Eagle Eye Cherry among others. Yung pinaka-popular ngayon Smooth with Rob Thomas, lead vocalist ng Matchbox 20. Save Ferris's song in 10 Things I Hate About You is "I Know". Letters To Cleo performed 2 songs in the OST too, along with Semisonic, Sister Hazel and Cardigans. It Means Everything was released 1997; their latest album is Modified.

Sheesh.
The answer to no. 1 is "Being With You" by Cathy Dennis. I think it's from her "Into The Skyline" album.

Revivals, remakes, et al are called "covers" simply because the artist covers (does or performs, if you may) other material by other acts. The word "cover" in this context is somewhat similar to "covering new ground" or "Do you have everything covered?" Well, roughly... =)

Martika was dropped by Sony Music (Epic Records) sometime in the late 1990s. The Greatest Hits package was released in Japan in 1999, I believe. She's moved on to other things now, I suppose, or possibly even recording with an indie label, I'm not quite so sure of her exact whereabouts.
Her other hits include I Feel the Earth Move Under My Feet, Love Thy Will Be Done, Coloured Kisses and Martika's Kitchen.

I seem to recall having read a press release about an upcoming album, but I can't quite remember where.
Wild Orchid released an album in late 1998, including the single, Talk To Me. It was an okay album, and the song did fairly well on the Hot 100. That's about all the information I can give you right now.
I can follow it up in the next few days, just give me some time to fax my contact over there at BMG. :)
