Working for a magazine is a tough job. Its my way of sharing to the people especially the youth what they should be buying, where?! Fashion is a way of life for Filipinos. We follow trends and we are updated. I am priviledged to be sharing my experience to my readers. I guess its my little contribution to the youth's world of constant change in fashion and lifestyle.

I was tasked to lead our class to prepare a presentation for a contest during our Christmas party last December. Although it seems "baduy" now, we danced to a Spice Girls' song (which my classmate and friend Ana and I suggested). Ana was to play Sporty Spice Mel C, but I had to take over when she couldn't come. Shedding all inhibitions and dressing the part to the max, I played the role to a hilt and became such a hit during the party that we won. After that, I became more popular at school and gained more friends.

As a fat child few years ago, i always hear criticisms, and other children and classmates used to tease or make fun of me. This is my life from elementary to high school. Due to all of these, I lacked the confidence and courage to face and socialize with other people. During vacation after i graduate from high school, i decided to burn out my fats, pray, change my eating habits and exercise. Voila, now that i'm in college, everyone (my friends, former classmates and teachers) was surprised! I have lost a lot of weight, and now I am so happy since I can do those things that i missed or didn't to do when i was young.

My boss was new and he wanted to prove to our company that we can come up with a timely report so he chose me to do it. Working day and night, and even on weekends, I finished the report in 23 days (normally done in 8 weeks). The report was not only fast but of very good quality too. I got an outstanding rating too! The clincher is, I also managed to guest in a talk show as a resource person in the midst of doing the report!! : )

When I was in high school, I'm a typical student who is really shy, or maybe just too afraid to participate in small talks among classmates and friends, or classroom discussions and activities. Then came the time that we had to present a play and compete with other sections, and I was assigned by the teacher to one of the major roles. Almost everyone was in doubt of my capabilities-- our play director and other classmates does not believe in me and even complaining about me everytime we had a practiced. Everyone was quiet and attentive while I perform then after our performance, I was the one praised mostly by the judges (which were my former teachers) telling that they really didn't expect that i'll be having that good performance. I got an AWARD, best actor in my category. Whenever we have to present a play, I'm on the director's priority list. *okay*

Working in a call center for 5 years, I find myself thrilled in a lifestyle of socializing and freedom to do what I want. Being pregnant for my first baby is something new to me, though a great hindrance to what I normally do, still serves as a very good lesson for me. Though I am limited to a lot of things and activities, I managed to stand out with fashion and poise that people admire me though I walk with a big belly. :bashful: I feel confident that I look and feel at my best though I am weeks away before having my baby ;)

Being a pro-dancer and a tertiary Justice Admin student can be really frustrating :grrr: , especially when you have gigs and assesments to juggle. Last Decemeber I was assigned to organize a meeting anytime (my own-time) between December and mid-January. I didn't have any free-time between those 2 months, as I was also busy with organizing a dance competition and also choreographing for my own dance crew  (Organizing 2 big events was a real pain on the butt :mecry: :bop: ). I was frustrated for a couple of weeks coz I was under contract and has a major assignment due. I go to Uni 5x a week and my weekends are for my dancing/promotion/modeling career, so one morning I woke up and decided to have 2 events in one day. :naughty: It was a wise random (very random) move for me as I saved money renting expensive hall/theater, forced my uni-mates to stay for the competition, earned extra cash from them and was able to finish 2 major task in one smooth relax day. .... *okay* :p

As scoutmembers during highschool, my friend and i were assigned to promulgate information and awareness on garbage segragation. Aside from the usual posters, lectures, and leaflets, we used costumes to enhance our campaign. I wore a shirt stuck with candy wrappers, plastic bottles, and softdrink cans to represent 'nonbiodegradable'. While my friend came up with a garbage can like costume with dried fishbone and banana peel to depict 'biodegradable'. Not only did our principal praised us for our effort and idea, the kids were always clinging to us begging us to tell the 'story' of ms. nonbiodegradable and mr. nonbiodegradable.

I was a hit with my 6th grade Social Studies teacher. That's because she assigned me a report, and I delivered it with confidence and matching artistic visuals to boot. I earned her respect and since then became one of her favorites.

It was my BTT (basic training for trainers) demo in my work. Im working as a Team Lead in a call center and we were asked to present an interesting topic that the agents/techs will appreciate and will learn. I used what I learned from my Masteral study in DLSU. Its about starting a business and everybody was blown from my presentation. They admired my hardwork, patience and how i balance my time since a call center job requires flexibility. They also noticed how I carry myself from the clothes Im wearing, on how I walk and on how I talk. One of the comments of the managers is that I delivered my topic very well and he told me that I was very enthusiastic. Its like one of the greatest performances of my life... hehehe.. :D Since then I gain their respect and trust. :)

I work as an Assistant Director for a tv network and since we tape every week, each taping day can last till the wee hours of the morning. And I have no complaints. My body clock has adjusted to this time frame.
However, in all the years that I worked in production, the biggest challenge happened when we did a live musical show at the UP Theatre. It was an anniversary special and the guests consisted of all the top local bands in the country plus more. South Border, Brownman Revival, Parokya ni Edgar, Cueshe, Sugarfree plus Regine Velasquez. Normally, we get another stage manager to help me out backstage with the traffic and the entrances/exits. However, every other stage managers were busy that day and I ended up alone backstage. The production assistants were tasked to call the stars and the bands, monitor the teleprompter, prepare the needed costumes and sets/props that no one was also available to help me out with stage management
I manned both the right and the left wings, running back and forth to cue the bands, the show's cast, the lights, VTR playback and even the smoke machine. And these all had to happen simultaneously.
After the show, and even until now, I can't remember how I managed to do all that.
Adrenalin rush, maybe?

I'm not a very stylish person. I hardly accessorize -- a plain shirt, jeans and stud earrings are fine with me. When dangling earrings became an in thing, I didn't ride its initial wave. However, that didn't stop me from browsing kiosks and booths that sold these accessories in loads of different designs and colors.
One afternoon, I told myself I should let loose a little bit. Take risks.
The risk came in one pair of dangling earrings. The minute I wore them, I felt more feminine and strangely enough, more confident. My posture seemed to improve and I felt my self-esteem rise. Funny how a pair of dangling earrings could change all that.
I wore them to work the very next day. The dose of confidence it gave me cascaded onto the way I worked -- I was more assertive and bold about my presentation. I was empowered and on fire. People noticed the change and complimented the way I carried myself. The earrings were magic.
I've collected several dangling earrings since then. While I know that the earrings are nothing more than accessories, they opened me up to taking more risks. And with the risks I took, I discovered a whole bundle of possibilities for myself.

Back in college, and even until now that I am already working, I have always been known as the multi-tasker - handling and managing activities for my three organizations, working parttime as a speech trainer and making sure that my academic work was never neglected.
Barely a month before the scheduled graduation, I was struck with bad news as my thesis had to undergo a really major revision when I thought I could already relax and focus on my other commitments since I was already done with my defense. This meant strictly balancing my time with my morning schedule reserved for thesis work, my breaks for my organizations and my afternoon till evening for my parttime work.
It was a big sacrifice for me as I had to set aside a lot of things I earlier planned as a reward for myself and people really expected that I would really be harrassed with all the pressure and stress. But I knew I would not end up with excellent work if I neglect or forget myself so every single day before plunging myself into work, I would make sure that I look and smell good, "poise under pressure", as what most of my surprised colleagues said when they saw me one time carrying armloads of thesis papers and work documents . . . in stilettos and with make-up!
It really was not bad at all that I still ended up graduating on time, and with honors!

I am a self-confessed fashionista, ala "Elle Woods" everytime I would go to school for my law studies.
One time during finals week last semester, as everyone was filing leaves from the office and spending sleepless nights just to finish take-home examinations especially for the dreaded Constitution 1 topics about the E-vat and proposed revisions for the Constitution, I was just playing it cool knowing that since I already had a head start and was just polishing my paper, I could still proceed to work in the morning and submit my paper on time in the afternoon.
Upon arriving in school, I saw most of my blockmates in "pambahay" clothes with black rings on their eyes due to eyebags. As I cooly strutted down the corridor with minutes to spare before the scheduled deadline wearing a bohemian-inspired look (brown knitted shawl, black slacks, open stilettos with a ribbon on my hair tied as a headband), my gay friend and my girl friends approached me and in unison approved my look by saying "Pwede!"

during my sophmore year in college, we were task to have an individual extemporaneous speech. Unforetunately, it slipped my mind that the first batch of speakers would present on that day. I was completely horrified! My speech is a mess at that in addition, i dont have ANY visual aids and "costume". I was praying really hard that i would get called when lo and behold! our teacher called my name. (i told our prof beforehand that i dont have my visual aids and costume with me to which she replied that the speakers would be picked randomly). i went infront of the class with a bunch of paper and then fixed them neatly at the podium. I took a deep breath and started my speech.MY voice had a shaky start which gradually became steady. what supposed to be an extemporaneous speech became a very good i mpromtu speech. I was able to impress the audience (my prof included) with my speech. MY lively hand movements and animated voice compensated for the lack of (appropriate visual aids) [my bond paper suddenly became a ouija board and my finger, a candle]. after my speech my c lassmates applauded and told me I did a good job. My prof was also impressed and said "akala ko ba hindi ka prepared?"
i smiled, said thank you and walked all the way to my seat. with style :)

Being a part of my profession (IT). I was quite bored of the fashion of bow and tie, during seminars of our company. Well what i did was i dressed myself with some attitude in mind! not that formal and not that casual, something in between, Attitude that expresses "Hey im smart and can do anything!". So when i entered the presentation, everyone is all ears with me and the seminar was very interactive as compared with my past presentation...
From that day i concluded that style is a part of any presentation! Well that why its called presentation... hehehe

The usual case study report in our MBA class is boring because of the technical jargon and the usual SWOT analysis garble. Our group was going to present a really boring case study of a mining company gone bad because of lack of management succession. I decided to spice things up a little and scripted a radio soap operat with matching voice characterizations ala "telenovela". I even had a group mate act as the dead company patriarch who haunted his wife with the case solution with a voice from beyond the grave. Everyone was all ears and so we ended up getting a VG from our prof plus I was told that I may have a future career as a radio talent! Our taped presentation was even used by our prof in his other classes. *okay*

As a representative of Mrs. Fields Cafe in the first Philippine Barista Cup, I've gained a lot of confidence being a Barista. One experience that i have is in my actual performance during a competition where they (judges) noticed my talent in coffee mixing and some skills in "Latte' Art". In fact, I have lots of job offering from different companies after joining that competition.

Right before college graduation, we had an orientation class wherein one session required us to come in our best corporate attire outfit. Our teacher told us that the girls had to wear a skirt with stockings, but when I got home, I realized that I didn't have a skirt that would be appropriate for the class (besides, I didn't want to wear stockings since it was too hot!). I decided to just wear slacks with a matching blazer, plus killer shoes! When I got to class, I was the only girl wearing pants but I knew I looked great so I was really confident. My teacher even chose to be part of a mock interview. At the end of the day, guess who was chosen as the best dressed female? ME!

i was tapped to host a mall tour by one of the country's boy groups. now i'm not really the type who likes to dress up, but i felt that since i was gonna be around celebs, i wasn't gonna be noticed even though i was holding a microphone. i decided to choose an outfit that'll make me stand out. i chose an african-inspired shirt, farmer's pants, and leather sandals to complete the look. not only did the people enjoy the show, i wasn't relegated to the background!

I have a friend who is really pretty but the problem was her style because it's really "baduy". One time her crush asked her for a date, she asked me to help her. What I did was a total MAKEOVER to her, I changed how she does her hair, her make-up, I even gave her one of my dress with matching pair of shoes. When her date saw her he was stunned for a moment and uttered "you are so beautiful". It was MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. *okay*

Last christmas, our village held an art contest covering the theme 'Home'. It was an 'anything goes' artwork contest but i heard most of them were either going to draw or write a literary peice so i decided to try something different. i made a biographical power point presentation of our village. I rummaged through our garage looking for old photos and memorabilia. It was a 'dramatic peice' as they called it and most of the elders were moved to tears. I got chosen as one of the 5 winners plus i got an special recognition.
