No offense to those PEXers belongs to the so called "Big 4".
Lets give oppurtunity to those schools (aside form UP, AdMU, DLSU and UST)
which you think can be considered as runner ups.
Let me start...
5. University of San Carlos (Cebu) - the oldest school established in the history of Asia. The choice of Cebuanos and Mindanaoans.
6. Mapua Institute of Technology - its true that 1/4 Filipino Engrs are Mapuans. And they really excel...topping the board exams and invading the technology industry.
7. Saint Louis University (Baguio) - pride of Northern Philippines.
9. University of Asia and the Pacific - sayang naman ang kamahalan ng tuition kung hindi isasama sa top 10 hehehe...
Closely behind ang Siliman U, FEU, UE, PUP Sta Mesa, and MSU IIT.

There are other schools I could add, and maybe one of them could occupy 9 or 10 on the list, and these would be CLSU, TIP, and even that university in Batangas, Borbon yata yung dati niyang pangalan.

Anyway, is it true that Adamson's BS Geology will be phased out?
So it'll be MIT and UP that'll be only ones left to offer the said program?

But inacse it will push through..baka magsunuran na rin ang UP at MIT.

By the way I didnt include those schools which are only focusing or shall I say known only on one field such as UP Manila (Medicine), DLSU-Dasma (Medicine), TIP and TUP (Engineering), San Beda (Law) etc...

Big 4 or big 3 universities sa pinas? katarantaduhan!
i googled it and here's what i found:
The Big 4 is a group of international accountancy firms responsible for the handling of the vast majority of audits for publicly traded corporations. Before the collapse of Arthur Andersen, in 2002, these companies were known as the Big 5.
The Big 4 firms are:
Deloitte & Touche
Ernst and Young
KPMG
PricewaterhouseCoopers
Bazooka_Joe

eto pa ang Big 3.
The Big 3 refers to the top three auto makers: Ford, Chrysler and General Motors...

.. from google.

i also think CLSU & AdU should be included.
based on number of COE/D's:
1. MSU - 11 (same as AdMU & DLSU have)
2. USC - 10
UPLB - 10
Xavier - 10
3. SLU - 9
4. AdU - 8
5. Sillman U - 7
6. Ateneo de Davao - 6
7. CLSU - 5
Cagayan State U - 5
St Paul U, Tuguegarao - 5
this also reflects their board exam rates & graduates' performance. kung mapapansin nyo, after UP,UST,DLSU & AdMU, puro outside metro manila na.. underrated sila kasi nga nasa prubinsya, pero kung tutuusin mas magagaling pa sila kaysa sa mga sinasabi nyong San Beda, UE, FEU, CEU, etc.. na ni isa walang COD. MIT has 4, YUP has 3, and PUP has 1 though.

Through Zach's source, here's the ranking based on CHED's Center of Excellence/Development:
1. UPD-32
2. UST-15
3. AdMU-11
4. DLSU-11
5. MSU-11
6. USC-10
7. UPLB-10
8. XU-10
9. SLU-9
10. AdU-8
There you are: 5 from NCR, 1 from northern Philippines, 1 from southern Tagalog, 1 from the Visayas, 2 from Mindanao. Modifying the criteria won't change the ranking significantly. Those who did not make it to the top 10, organize your protest demonstration to CHED. Those who made it to the top 10 be happy with your lot but if you aren't feel free to join the protesters! Direct any other question to Zach.

I can see you're now a happy camper at the Academe but you're pushing your luck into the red zone! *okay* Aren't you happy with yours at the #10 spot that now you think it deserves the 5th or 6th spot? :) Consider this, if you factor the frequency the college's graduates make it to the top 10 in the board exams (COE/COD designation already reflects the passing percentage and graduate performance) UPD will farther surge ahead of the pack. USC will certainly gain more points and so do the others. Which one do you think AdU should bump down? ;)

Asiaweeks's Asia's Best Universities Ranking:
48 - UP
71 - DLSU (MANILA!)
72 - ATENEO (De Manila)
74 - UST
Tapos nagpatuloy ang hype na ito dahil sa last year's publication ng THES-QS survey of World's top 520 universities. '4' lang ulit ang nakasama.
Ito yung ranking:
299 - UP
392 - DLSU (MANILA!)
484 - ATENEO (de MAnila)
500 - UST
OT:
(in no particular order, I think these universities deserve a place 'someday' in these global rankings)
Silliman University
University of San Carlos
Xavier University
PUP
FEU
ATENEO de DAVAO

It seems that all of you guys are so hype to the rankings, well anyway Philippine Daily Inquirer stated that University of the East would finally enter the top 3 Univerities in the Philippines by 2014.
All things in this world are just temporary, Big 4 is not permanent!
Big Four:
UP
DLSU
ADMU
UST
Successors of Big Four:
UE
FEU
Letran
Siliman

One thing that na di ko maintindihan sa mga COE or COD for example may COE or COD sila pero pagdating naman sa board exams mababa ang passing rate nila samantalang yung hindi identified as COE or COD mas mataas pa ang passing rate kesa sa kanila...
Some Universities really deserves to be recognize as COE and COD pero how can we be sure it is only given to those who really deserves it... CHED is a government agency and honestly we all know how the system works in a government agency here in the Philippines....
Just my two cents...

Nakakalungkot naman po ang thread na ito...
The more "good schools" that we recognize... the better, hindi ba? Why are we so into "branding" and "ranking" in the first place? Each of the schools mentioned above have a positive contribution to our society... there's no need to pinpoint "how many."
It's better if we will think of who will we INCLUDE and not who we will EXCLUDE...
Juntrix

Being dubbed/branded/recognized as the "highest among the high" should only be regarded as a compliment and not as a bragging right to step on others.
Think it over guys... we are educated people here... let's stop this bashing mayhem for good...

i also think CLSU & AdU should be included.
based on number of COE/D's:
1. MSU - 11 (same as AdMU & DLSU have)
2. USC - 10
UPLB - 10
Xavier - 10
3. SLU - 9
4. AdU - 8
5. Sillman U - 7
6. Ateneo de Davao - 6
7. CLSU - 5
Cagayan State U - 5
St Paul U, Tuguegarao - 5
this also reflects their board exam rates & graduates' performance. kung mapapansin nyo, after UP,UST,DLSU & AdMU, puro outside metro manila na.. underrated sila kasi nga nasa prubinsya, pero kung tutuusin mas magagaling pa sila kaysa sa mga sinasabi nyong San Beda, UE, FEU, CEU, etc.. na ni isa walang COD. MIT has 4, YUP has 3, and PUP has 1 though.
UE is recognized by CHED as CENTER OF DEVELOPMENT IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (COD). UE college of MEDICINE is DOST's CENTER OF EXCELLENCE.

TUP po yun, hindi YUP... *okay*
Take note: UE and FEU are great partners. And future successors of DLSU and UP. Beat that!. :naughty: wag magagalit. peace po!

Curious ako sa standing ng Adamson, FEU and UE. Adamson has more COE/COD than FEU and UE (actually wala eh, pls correct me if I'm wrong). Anyone from these three schools?
mikagiyasuo02, anong article? Gusto ko rin mabasa. :)

here it is..

i forgot to mention adamson.. (peace) try to edit my post..
hmm anyways, actually pagpinagsama mo ang FEU and UE u'll get a school to be considered in the top.. they have their common traits and they have different points..
as i know, UE, during its previous administration, haven't focused much on accreditation and application for COE/COD, and lately planned on accreditation (correct me if i'm wong).. Dr. Albano-Garcia, former ched chair and the new president of the university, stressed much on accreditation and expansion and by the following years, i guess changes can be observed.
this year, our campus (caloocan) just had its first accreditation visit from paascu.. just planned last 2005..
the university got already a COD this year, for IT Education, and as what meteorcatcher said, the university's college of medicine is a DOST Center of excellence.

Hopefully CHED would be enlightened.
Board exam performance by school is just a few percentage in COE/COD selection criteria by CHED.
For instance, in IT field, Instructional Quality has the highest weight (45%), Research and Development (30%), Extension & Linkages (20%).

yup, i guess they are really close then.. hehehe..
i haven't heard bout the cross enrolment of the two universities since i'm from caloocan and our campus haven't got cases like that.
just to add in the article, UE is currently in an expansion mode, UE is eyeing to establish more campuses within and outside of Metro Manila, including as far as Visayas. UE’s board has initially selected Fort Bonifacio Global City (in Taguig City), Tagaytay (in the province of Cavite) and Cebu City in the South as possible sites.
UE is awaiting the required accreditation from the Commission on Higher Education before pushing through with the expansion.

I wonder why schools like PNU and PLM are not included in the list that I have seen here. Employability wise, I think graduates of PNU, have easier time to be employed on the job, that they really want to get (and that is to be teachers), as compared to graduates of those other schools.
On the otherhand, PLM have always performed respectable in board exams.
