Just wanted to ask, what you thought of the place...
It used to be a Portuguese colony and last Dec. 19.1999 (i think) it was given back to China... the place itself is quite historical... so tell me what you think of Macau... :ahh:

Macau is a beautiful place...I've been there twice...in 1994 and last August.

It's not like Hongkong. It's more quiet, a place one can live in. There's really not much to do there. You can tour a bit, shop in in border of Macau and China so it's pretty cheap. Otherwise, it's rather boring. One advise if you do go there. Go for a foot massage. :D

just came back from macau and i'm telling you... forget hongkong!
place is cleaner and not so crowded, people are laid back, food is fantastic, shopping is very much cheaper. id recommend a visit to nearby zhuhai, china.

I went there once with my sister, then I went back again with my husband 4 months ago. From Hongkong you can take speed boat to go there. We rented a cab and driver ofcourse and paid him $50.00 for the entire day. This include crossing the boarder to Indo China with the driver/tour guide. It is okey, although I think theres nothing that interest me except things there are cheap and the food is excellent. My husband being an American appreciate it more. If anybody of you thinking of going there I can give the driver's cell no, and he can pick you up in the port if you call him.

I was there just this May. Well it's entirely different from HK. A more laid back atmosphere, and the people are nicer. The shopping is cheaper than HK but you only have limited shops to choose from- but ok na rin. Actually you can do all your shopping na nga sa main square nila- I just forgot what's the name. And the food is DELICIOUS, unlike in HK medyo bland.

I went there around 1996, I think. Anyway, back then there was nothing much to see.

oooh!!! a thread about Macau!!! I love that place...
I visit my dad there whenever i can...I was there last Christmas till New Year (boring new year kasi di tayo sabay eh) I was there too during the hand over! the fireworks were magnificent!

And yeah! Macau is just a small place with a population of only 400,000 ...the people are so warm and friendly unlike those rude Chinese people in Hongkong. I never really liked Chinese people but when I went to Macau, that perception has changed...also, i rarely appreciate Chinese beauty but that's the only place where I've seen a lot of goodlooking Chinese...actually ang ganda ng combination ng Chinese and Portuguese --- Eurasian theory!

One thing i like about Macau is the ease of commuting by bus! di ka mawawala as long as you know the "name" of the place where you come from and your destination...shoot ka na don...pwede ka nang magtour sa Macau magisa hehehe...

Also, masarap magshopping, sobrang mura lahat kasi walang tax,...ang saya coz my dad bought a car for only 2000 Patacas (that's 12,000 pesos lang) second hand lang naman...pero diba ang cool non 12000 pesos for a car...but just recently he sold it for 500 patacas nalang - that's 3000 pesos...ang bilis magdepreciate...hihihi...

My mom said, the best time to shop in Macau is around February - kasi sale lahat ng shops don...actually December ok din...tapos yung wet market nila air conditined (kaya ang baho hehehe)

BUT if you're a beach person and want to explore Macau's beaches, nakupo it's not the place to be....my goodness ang beach nila don brown (mejo madumi sya because of the mud that's coming from the mountains and rivers of China) pero ha tuwang tuwa na mga portuguese dun :glee:...that's why when my dad invited them to visit the Philippines...super heaven sa kanila ang Boracay!
