View Full Version : How to get a consistent flat 1.0 grade?

Tips naman diyan kung paano ka magkakaroon ng smooth na flat 1.0 (or 4.0 for some) or at least 1.0-1.75 grade (no grade must be equal to 2.0)..ng consistent for all the years..

Alam kong you need to study very hard to obtain a flat one grade, but kasi parang time is very limited and in that very short span of time, your brain is bombarded by many many facts.. So tips naman diyan.. hehe.. especially sa mga taong puro flat 1 yung grades diyan for all the semester..

Siguro frustration lang ito dahil kanina.. hehe..so help naman.. =)

Never cram. That's the ultimate rule. I learned so much in my cramming days in HS that I never did it again in college, especially that colleges and universities demand so much work and expectations from its students.

If you can do work earlier like projects, research, reviewing, hw, be earlier or on schedule. :)

This is from someone who spent his nine long years in college. You might say that I'm hardly qualified to give my advice on the topic, in which you're partly right. But be aware that the fact that it took me that long, I somehow developed an appreciation on being a good student (or person for that matter when it comes to tasks at hand). So I can say the things that I lack back then :)

Number 1: FOCUS. Set all things aside that would otherwise distract you from getting a 1.0. And that includes excessive malling, PC games, billiards, sex (hehehe), etc. I cannot stress this enough.

Number 2: Time management. Maski mahirap at super duper ang workload mo, basta meron ka lang organized plan, you can manage to cope up with it.

My 2 cents :D

Salamat sa inyo.. hehe.. katatapos lang prelims ko kanina sa organic chem.. hehe.. daming problem na parang wala akong patutunguhan dun..
@Dacs
Well.. Yung Number 1 talaga.. di ko maiwasan (except for billiards and sex (haha).).. pero yung malling (as in super hyper very excessive talaga ako.. )

oo nga I need to study.. haha.. sayang naman yung mga naipundar ko na dati kung mawawala.. ;)

The swiftest thing in the world, that's what you need. Sleep. When I was still studying, kahit na hindi pa ako tapos mag-review kung dinalaw na ako ng antok, matutulog na talaga ako. I won't force myself browsing my notes or my books kung inaantok na ako.

In my school there were generally speaking, two types of sudents: yung MAY UTAK and yung MAUTAK. The former can be described as intelligent, which is in my opinion, God-given. The later may be defined as street smart, something experiential which you gain over the years. You need to be both to be able to get those 1's or A's coming while at the same time enjoy your college life (malling, sex, billiards, booze, bashing....) *okay*

Keep a low profiled life, tama na muna gimmiks, out of town hang-outs, and minsan pa nga, less extra curricular activities. Bawiin mo lahat pag graduate mo. College isn't as easy as others thought it may be.College is the molding point in one person's life.

I should know. :D

That's a good objective... aim for the highest... if you focus
on that goal and do something about it, you might as well
achieve it...

Sabi nga ng biology teacher ko dati... aim for the best, unconciously
and conciously, you are doing your best to achieve that goal. If
you somehow fail to achieve it, you are still better than the rest.
For example, my teacher told me to aim for TOP 1 spot in the
DCS Science Quiz Bee (Biology). I aimed for that, I almost got it.
I ranked third in the finals... hahahaha... not bad...

==================================================

Somehow related to the topic, I never heard anyone from PLM
engineering who got straight 1.0s. That was our aim before,
at least to stay away from the imminent 2.0 - 3.0 grades, or
even worse 5.0... hahaha...

===================================================

Good luck to all students... Take your studies seriously...

@COMIX: Meron, sa ust engineering, mechanical engineering yung course niya, kagagraduate niya lang last year.. yung last semester ng pagstay niya, flat 1.00 yung GPA niya.. grabe nga paghanga ng mga tao sa kanya.. :)

Pasensiya na sa pag-initiate ng thread na 'to, frustration lang sa Organic Chem which happens to be one of my favorite subjects.. todo review na ko.. pero iba pa rin yung lumabas, although di ganun kalayo, pero basta iba pa rin.. Haha.. Salamat sa mga suggestions.. Dream kong makakuha kasi ng flat 1.0 sa math and/or chem subjects.. kahit yung iba mga 2.0 na (taxation, etc.) pinakamataas pa lang is 1.25.. well.. salamat ulit.. siguro frustration lang 'to... masyado lang akong mataas magexpect siguro.. hehe.. anyway that's life, thanks again sa suggestions..

gold_inhiniero: i think the good advices have been said, and sometimes even you do all these you wont get a flat one grade, so try some nasty tips from me

1) dont be grade conscious - subjective ito. minsan it helps if you do ask for your classmates' help and help them in return, coz believe me, pag magdadamot ka at crab ang pagiisip, there will be a sem na you will not get a grade that you expect all because of pride of not soliciting your classmates' help. you'll need help every once in a while. of course always have reservations, and dont help them in do-or-die situations like midterms and finals. lastly, keep in mind that college is not solely a race between you and yourself, but also a survivor game against your classmates and batchmates, and sometimes, even your professors

2) dont be too extraordinary yet dont be too low profile, *** normal lang - at least you are on the safe zone, you will not be taken for granted at the same time, you will not be in the limelight. imagine if for one whole same, either of those will be another concern of yours aside from getting a flat one grade

3) dont aim for flat one - have a more realistic or attainable benchmark, unless there is someone or more than one person in ur class who can easily get such grade, pero kung genius ang kalaban, wag na tularan, just aim for more realistic and attainable grades

4) if you are really more academic oriented, as if getting a flat one or 1.75 being ur lowest grade, then minimize [or better, eradicate] other school obligations such as being involved or an officer in school organizations.

5) pray, pray, pray, because a lot of times, those who do not do very extraordinary yet arent complacent get a high grade with the aid of divine providence, while those who really have done almost everything except to pray end up getting 1.25. it is good to ask God to give you a flat grade with a promise of exerting effort at nobody's expense, but it is best to ask God to give you a grade that He thinks you deserve with a promise of exerting effort at nobody's expense

me, there was a time that im wrongly focused as if studying college is just a robotic or clerical thing, and i ended up getting a 5.00 grade in financial accounting and a 1.9 gpa. now, though im still not so studious, i get 1.215 gpa

Well, I did hope to get flat 1.0 in my Calculus (Math AnaI, Math AnaII
and Math AnaIII)... I did well I think... I got 1.75 for Math AnaI (the
highest in our class), 1.50 for Math AnaII (again, the highest in our
class) and 1.00 in Math AnaIII (the only flat 1.0 in our class)...
ang yabang ko 'no... hehehe...

Low profile din naman ako dati... pero di maiiwasang mapansin ka
dahil sa results ng mga quiz at exams niyo... mapapansin ka talaga
ng mga kaklase mo... plus the fact that we are in the block
section...

Tama nga na you must not be a snob... help your classmates that
are in need and they will help you in the future... di ako nagpa-
pakopya, pero we had this group study before tuwing breaks
before our examination... sinasagot namin iyong mga problems
nang sabay-sabay tapos compare notes who got the answer and
who solved it with less steps... share share din kami ng techniques...
some of the techniques I know came also from my classmates who
hail from MaSci, PhiSci, ParSai... so far so good...

well i'm going to college/UNI this year. any suggestions or any proven techniques i could learn from you guys? i mean, i was intelligent in my grade school years and senior years - the best in class. i think it must be in the mood? i was a flunker from my freshman to junior years. i'm not even qualified to take the UPCAT before because of my grades back in seniors.

this is my critical break. HELP!!

nakakfrustrate din yungmag-aim ng perfect grade sa amin eh 99 ang highest. ang closest grade ko to perfect is 98(math)nag 97 kasi ako nung midterms kaya wala na. (99+97+99)=98.3333.

^^ during our time in high school, 95% was the ceiling grade.
I mean, WTF? Why they put such a low ceiling grade? My
teacher approached me and told me that I should have gotten
a higher grade from her, but she can only give 95%... hehehe...

Also, when we won different quiz shows, our trainor will give
us an automatic 95% in the report card... hahaha... those
were the days.

GRADES ARE IMPORTANT. but if you do not have the street smarts you will not succeed in life...

street smarts/wisdom/whatever > grades

Gone are the days that they say that grades are not measure of what you really have learned and it's values learned are much more substantial. You can take that reason but sometimes in life, especially in the school, you have to quantify how much you have learned from mentors through tests, quizzes, exams and other graded activities.

Whatever we say otherwise, good grades do matter when applying for work. How can I say that. I'm a prime example for that.

I placed in the board exam. That alone (or so I thought) is reason enough to turn heads in applying for work.

Currently, I'm still jobless for 3 months and counting :mecry: Why is that? Why aren't companies considering me for the spot? Because I spent nine F****NG years in college :mecry: :mecry:

I'm not saying that grades are everything. But it really matters, at least to the eyes of the HR of multinational companies.

^^Don't get me wrong. I got good grades but I was never grade conscious. (Actually I was pretty lazy  ).

But grade obsessed people especially competitive grade obsessed people made me laugh. Lalo na yung mga "hey what score did you get on our last test" types.

Certain companies look more at your extra curricular activities (e.g. internships, volunteer experiences and organizations) because it does count as work experience. There are some folks who get excellent grades but have no extra curricular activities whatsoever and compared to someone who has good grades but with work experience, who will the company hire?

Good grades are important but remember to keep things in perspective and remain balanced.

I went to Cal Berkeley and that place was infested with extremely competitive people that were obssessed with grades. Unfortunately, high grades doesn't necessarily translate to professional excellence. Many languished in grad school or got multiple degrees as a way to shield themselves from the real world (you know...the one that expects real results). Although I managed to graduate with honors, I wasn't obssessed with grades. I just found a way to study passionately while having a balanced life (I was a member of a fraternity and did a lot of volunteer work). This ability to balance paid off in the corporate world. The ability to mix with and lead people is key to advancement. I learned more about that from dealing with sorority social chairs (to match up sororities with our fraternity) and working in the real world than from books.

Be focused with your studies. Manage your time wisely. Read in order to develop/enhance your critical thinking and hone your comprehension skill. Don't just zero in on the grade itself. You study not for the sake of the grade.

We usually did this during highschool.

i agree na wag nga masyadong grade conscious, ok lang magka social life habang nag aaral. pero wag lang sobra. hehe. i remember i had a major subject tapos may period kami before the final presentation of projects which my prof called "brain break" sana lahat ng prof ganun. hehe
