The sentiments of the professor, however true and astute, is also naive. The true weather in the academic front is that the dean / rector / college president, have all the powers to override all policies due to a gamut of considerations. This power, however, is not a staple in the dean's decision making menu.
My belief in the academic system in making such exceptions is believing in the wisdom that no rule, policy nor person is perfect and such window to override academic decisions was done for a greater benefit. If the board of trustees, college president, and other officers have given the nod to allow such student to continue, believe in the collective wisdom of the pillars of that institution. I am sure that such exception is given with utmost discernment.
And compare such with the decision of a faculty member who, in all due respect, might have reasons to fail the students twice. But judging an institution deeply with breaching academic freedom because the council of leaders handed down another decision without finding out the deep reasons behind is being extremely judgemental.

enough of demi-Gods. if they want the dean to resign, all of them should resign and let a reform be taken.

what so sad with this is that the one who gave the comment was a former judge of the highest court much worst he is also a dean of another law school.
He should not have published this issue against the school especially so that its is a personal issue between his son and the school.
