Ayan na. Haha. The Ultimate Showdown of the Academe. La Salle and Ateneo. Unang una, trimestral sa La Salle, semestral sa Ateneo. Pangalawa, ayoko na magsalita. Haha. I leave the rest to the peeps and I shall just comment on statements.

Shut up thread starter. You are only trying to start a fire between the two parties. And to think, you are not even in one of them.

it depends on your course...

in business, i think lasalle is better than ateneo. ateneo excels in liberal arts and law.

all in all, ateneo is better than lasalle.

kung seryoso man ang thread na ito, the answer is it depends on what course. may course na meron dlsu and wala admu. may course din meron admu na wala dlsu. so you can't generalize ****

Most people don't know this but the curricula of these schools are roughly the same. They also draw from the same pool of faculty. Third, many of these rankings are questionable because they look at the size of the university, among other things. For example, it's surprising that ADMU even made it to the list as it is only around half the size (in terms of student and staff population) of each of the three schools. One can imagine what will happen once it grows to the same size as one of the three schools.

All Philippine schools do badly compared to Asian neighbors due to poor funding, student selectivity (imagine, for example, giving the GMAT to ADMU, UP-D, DLSU, and UST MBA students and see how many can get 650 or higher, or how many undergrads from these schools can do as well for the SAT; for English, I wonder how many from these schools will receive, say, a Band 7 or better for IELTS), low wages, etc.

In conclusion, these four schools are roughly the same in terms of quality, and since most Filipino students who are qualified to enroll in one of these four schools will likely not be admitted to universities like NUS, then one is better off just choosing one of these schools based on distance from one's home and the cost of living near the schools, whether one can afford to pay for the tuition.

I believe that both schools are good in many areas, but in some specific courses do the other school outshines the other...

DLSU invest so much in their researches in their engineering and computer science courses that it makes DLSU ideal when studying technical courses. including the name that shines in the faces of the companies, De La Salle University clearly outstrips ADMU in these courses.

I don't study in ateneo so i can't say very much, but I know that they have a very good curriculum in humanities and law.

For undergraduate studies, Ateneo is better than DLSU in terms of quality of students and quality of education. The academic standards, including admission requirements and quality control, are higher in the Ateneo.

DLSU is a larger university and offers more courses, admits more students, has a larger graduate studies program, and produces more research. Beacuse of this, DLSU tends to do better in rankings/surveys but the ultimate test of a school's quality is the product (i.e., the students). Both schools produce good students but, in general Ateneans are better in my opinion.

ba't mo naman nasabi na ito ang "ultimate" showdown of the academe? pano kung ang topic UP vs La salle o UP vs admu o admu vs ua&p o admu vs san carlos o dlasu vs ust?

to the thread starter:

DLSU has significantly stronger departments and faculty in science, engineering, IT and business, and is slighlty more respected in the academic community. However, at the undergrad level, ateneo probably does have the slight advantage due to its slightly greater selectivity. BUT you can't go wrong either place.

1. Mas mauunlad nga lang ang mga bansa nila but that does NOT mean na mas matatalino sila.

2. UP still houses the bulk of the intellectual elite as is the most sellective of all the 3 big schools.

3. UP has the best brand name here and abroad.

Why don't you answer these questions? From what I know, for AIM alone, the GMAT minimum is 600: http://www.aim.edu/admissions/requirements.asp#exams

Also, do you know how the average student from these schools fare in UPCAT, ACET, etc., in short, in the schools' own entrance exams? And I don't mean those who took these tests and were not admitted but those who took the tests and WERE admitted. You won't believe it.

siguro kaya nya nasabing ultimate showdown kasi di ba ang Ateneo at La Salle ay parang mga mortal na magkaaway? Healthy rivalry naman siguro, sana.
