View Full Version : Honda vs. Toyota - What's your choice?
The ultimate import car challenge!
We all know that Honda is also Acura and Toyota is also Lexus.. both car manufacturers are competing for excellence and cost-effectiveness so...
WHAT'S YOUR CHOICE?
Both of them makes great cars - Like Honda created prelude, Accord, etc. Toyota, on the other hand, created Supra, Tercel, and Camry( I love this car! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/inluv.gif )
Now...
YOU DECIDE!!!

parts-wise, i go for toyota. madaling bumili, maraming japan-equivalent and surplus. aircon- di malamig yung sa honda. pero overall performance, honda pa rin.
I WANT THE NEW HRV!!!!

tama si LALAKE, sa parts, Toyota talaga dali bumili. but the suspension of Honda Cars is better. ewan ko, yun ang na-feel ko. and, parang hindi naman malakas sa gas. i've tried automatic and manual nila, parang hindi magastos sa gas eh. for the others, ano na ang na-experience ninyo?
...but i first tried a toyota car. ok naman din i-drive eh pero parang lahat ginagawang taxi. pero kahit ano, bsta may car! :D

The Rock
Sep 7, 2000, 11:48 PM
This is a tough, tough question. The Rock's first car was a 1992 silver Toyota Corolla GLi. We just sold it two months ago, and the fact that it lasted eight years proves how much The Rock loves and trusts Toyota cars. But now, the Rock's car is a 2000 Formula red Honda Civic SiR, and it's a beautiful car. http://www.pinoyexchange.com/inluv.gif the problem with honda is that it doesn't have all that much in features for its expensive price. The civic didn't come with anti-lock brakes, keyless entry, centralized door locks, airbags, or fog lamps, and we got it for well over 700,000 pesos.
The Rock has always considered himself a Toyota kind of guy because of his old Corolla, but the newer Corolla models weren't very impressive, and were relatively small compared to the '92 model. ;) The Civic on the other hand, is a beautiful car and is unquestionably the best looking car among the models in its class today. :D suffice it to say that The Rock has been equally blessed by both Toyota and Honda. :D
If you smell what The Rock is cookin!

amidst the honda riceboys in our country, TOYOTA RULZ!!!
The Rock's 2000 Civic SiR is one of the hottest performance car among dragsters here in Southern Cali import scene. Hondas have more aftermarket performance parts than Toyotas, but TRD is slowly catching up..
Here's a modded Toyota Camry below. Sweeet!!

it's true. toyota's legenday reliability has earned it award after award after award. unbelievable how they manage to build a car to withstand the beatings of time.
pinoy's aren't the only ones who appreciate toyota's superioir build quality; the corolla in the world's best selling car. not exactly the most exciting vehicle on the road, but it gets its job done.

I used to be from the old school... racing was my past time when i was in high school and i always prefered a turbocharged engine over any naturally aspirated engine... i dont know too much about the specifications about the TOMS Corolla nor the Honda SIR... but how much has racing dynamics evolved other then being more dependent on computers?
Out of preference I prefer the Toyota... I have always been satisfied with Toyota given that my dyno-tested 500hp rear wheel drive HKS balanced and blueprinted 22RE iron block with its knife-edged crankshaft, port n' polished head and intake, extrude-honed trottle body, TRW pistons and rods, titanium 5-angle valves and springs, bosch racing fuel pump, 550cc injectors, retarded timing and 2mm steel head gasket with custom fabricated intercooled spooling Turbonetics T3/T4 hybrid have always been able to outrun any Honda in my high school/college days. All they saw and heard was my 2 1/2-inch mandral bent exhaust system and swuuuuup and buuuwww of my HKS blow-off valve... I also had all the computers too.. HKS FCON, VBC, SBC, AIC etc.. my Toyota 22RE was also able to handle another 150hp if needed with my blue bottle :D
That was my lifestyle then... now I prefer the comfort of my strong, sleek, and stylish MB E430.

Ranging from problems to radiotor, door hinge, electrical system.
So far satisfied pa ako sa '98 Civic VTi ko.
Pero I got to admit....medyo parang maganda ang bagong Corolla than the Civic...'lalo pag pinorma

Just because it's known to be a jologs car you dislike it? That is weak. Just follow everyone else.
Thats's one thing I hate about some people there at home. NO INDIVIDUALITY whatsoever.

HONDA
Pros:
- Never made into taxis. Legality daw iyan eh. HCPI can sue one for turning a Honda into a taxi.
- Well-built
- High-redline engines, VTEC or not (6800-8000 rpm anyone?)
- Generally the sportiest of the Japanese brands
- Generally slow depreciation
Cons:
- High cost of maintenance
- Can be gutless at low-midrange RPM
TOYOTA
Pros:
- Low cost of maintenance
- Parts availability very good
- Well-built
- Torquey engines happiest at low-midrange
- Smooth ride quality
Cons:
- Generally better in a straight line than through corners
- Image as a taxi maker
- Worse at top-end RPM than Hondas
Ako? It's a cycle. I used to favor Toyota for the longest time (I first drove around in an AE101) but I'm currently a Honda fanatic.
I've gotten addicted to high revs and the low-down feel of my SX8 City. Driving Toyotas now seems like piloting a battleship because of the unusually high dash. I tried driving my mom's Altis and the dash was too damn broad.
As it is though, currently I don't like both makers' cars here.

On the "taxi image" issue, it can actually work both ways as being a choice for taxi operators and fleet use can also speak of the durability of the vehicle. :)
If you drive up to Northern Luzon, you'll see some Civics being used as police cars from time to time.

Bad Trip kasi mga tropa noong may TOYOTA pa kami, pag ggmik kami pag tinatawag ako "TAXI TAXI".
Anyway, when it comes to stability and long lasting toyota cars talaga ang maaasahan. Kahit bulok bulok na mabilis pa rin and still going basta well maintained.

Locally manufactured, HONDAs
Imports, TOYOTA.
Local TOYOTAs have lousy QC (especially the REVO). That plus the fact that consumers have no power in the country makes buying a TOYOTA a no-no. Buy it and weep.

First of all, parehong maganda yan. Parehong matindi ang quality, reliable and holds their respective resale value. Jap cars are known for this and they are the best example.
However there is a major difference in pricing,...I think Honda's marketing style makes their cars overpriced compared to Toyota.
Kung baga, mas value for money ang Toyota.
Dati, lamang ang Honda sa mga teenagers na mahilig sa set-up and dreams of street car/racing set-ups. Kasi may BAR Honda sa F1 which Honda has been milking. "Mugen Power" ika nga ng brad ko USTE.....
However that is starting to change. Toyota has awakened their TRD department and has already joined F1 as a principal team. This shows that Toyota is on the prowl to get that segment of the market.
Medyo they are brandishing SPORTIVO lines in their Celica's, Solara's, Rolla's and Supra's here in Oz.
Buhay na naman ang Toyota Racing Development team. It might not be big there in the Phils. but here in Australia they are number one in sales right now because of these changes, as well as the aforementioned pricing superiority. They are even beating Holden in sales! the past quarter.
So for me, Toyota overall pero price point lang ang lamang. Everything else tie sila. BTW Camry was awarded the most economical to run as conducted by NRMA. NRMA here in Oz is like a wheelers club x insurance company that is overwhelmingly trusted in car research/opinions as well as updated legislation in transport.
Toyota has added another accolade in their value for money image.

correction: walang Supra and Solara dito sa Oz. Yung models na yun sa Tate. Napag-isa ko kasi.
BTW yung mga Camry owners na nag-mo-modify o nag-se-set-up. Try this site. Konti lang sa US ang gumagawa ng bodykits etc etc at eto ang isa sa pinakamaganda! Trust me. My V6 is loving the body kit.

HONDA can BEAT TOYOTA..... but its all about,,,,,,, how you modify and drive your baby. nakahonda o Toyota kanga hindi kanaman marunong mag REV HARD, so depende sa nagmamaneho. I have a toyota '92 stock engine, 15" wheels, Sound set-up by AutoShape.....beattin the HONDA CITY at 150 kph at Super HW. With loud sounds pa yun while racing....... So guys DEPENDE SA DRIVER. Go Toyota!
I think a lot of people bought the new honda civic out of loyalty to honda itself. Cmon guys, everybody knows the new altis is better than the new civic.
A lot of people also talk about choosing a honda because its cheaper... they should also consider the costs theyll incurr in the long run. esp for maintenance, parts and service.

Im all for Toyota! Toyotas have tried and true turbocharged engines. Honda has no turbocharged engines from the factory.

Aight..lets compare engines of Toyota and Honda.
4AG vs B16(both 1.6liters)..Both are highly modifiable but 4AG is a true race engine still being used today in racing! Everyone here in the states is moving to FR cars..AE86 Corolla being popular choice.
B20 vs 3S-GTE(Both 2liter 4bangers). The S2000 B20 engine puts out 240hp. Toyotas 3S-GTE found in the MR-2 and Celica, engine puts out 275hp bone stock! 3S-GTE proven in WRC, and JGTC found in the MR-S, Celica and Supra...this is the only 4 cylinder engine competeing in the GT500 class and has won! That says alot to me.
2JZ-GTE vs C30(both 3liter 6 cylinder). C30 found in the NSX, 2JZ found in the Supra. Both hav stock hp of 286. Both are found on racing circuits. BUT, the 2JZ far exceeds the C30 in street modifing. Stock Supras with raised boost and full exhaust systems have been know to push out 400rwhp!..costing less then $1000 in parts. Attach a bigger turbo and upgraded fuel system, I have seen STOCK BLOCKS on Supra put down 850RWHP..thats about 1000hp at the engine. No engine on earth that is bone stock from the factory can do this.
