different people have different views about makeup. some call it a tool for oppression, some call it loads of fun. i think it can be either, depending on why you put it on, how it makes you feel, how you feel without it, and many other considerations. I for one enjoy it because it feels like a toned-down imitation of a tribal face-painting ritual which i find exotic and beautiful; and also, when I dress up my body for a big event, I want a face to match. Now, I'm not talking about heavily applied warpaint, but maybe a little mascara and some tinted gloss for the lips, or even smoky eyeshadow once every now and then. So let's trade views on makeup (like, is makeup good, bad, or neither?) and even kikay tips if you have any.

babyfat: unfortunately, I don't have any kikay tips! =)

From this guy's perspective, make-up is great, for as long as it higlights what is natural, and doesn't turn something into what it isn't.

For as long as the make-up complements the event, go ahead! Just make sure you don't have too much! What I don't like about make-up is when you're already trying too hard...I've seen older women with make-up a couple of millimeters thick! I mean, why don't we just grow old gracefully?

Oh yeah...I like that idea of yours about make-up being ceremonial paint...unique! So, maybe next time we have a pow-wow, you'll have some foundation and mascara ready for the ceremony! =)

Thanks, Aragorn! It's nice to get a guy's point of view.

Even after college, I still don't know how to use makeup. Lipstick and face powder I can handle. But eyeshadow? I don't know about that but what I do have are under eyeshadows!
I think makeup is okay so long as it is used to highlight your features. And it wouldn't be nice naman if you went to a formal function, signature gown and all, without make-up.

I just dread going to weddings because of the make-up issue. I'd run to the nearest salon! However, make-up artists scare me. My greatest fear about entrusting my do on Madame is coming out looking like some Kabuki Queen. What salons would you suggest for make-overs?

And for daily applications, is masacara really necessary?

mavi: mascara for everyday use is definitely not a good idea. actually, i rarely even use it when i got out on weekends or dates, because when i do, it all ends up under my eyes in 30 minutes. i can't really recommend any salons, because i hate salons! the last time i had my makeup done in a salon was for a wedding and i ended up looking like a geisha. but since you like face powder, can you recommend a good brand that treats the face kindly but doesn't cost an arm and a leg? i like clinique's face powder but it's too, too pricey. and johnson's face powder gives me a rash.

Normally, girls use make up to enhance their features. Some put on excessively, most just right. In my opinion, girls should only use natural make up. I really don't like girls wearing black lipstick and others of the like for everyday use. However, if the occasion calls for it, then go ahead. =)

My skin isn't at all sensitive and so anything goes for me. You might want to try VMV Hypoallergenics. My tita always insists that we buy this brand for we visit her in the States.

My dad prefers that women wear make-up. He says they look a lot more classier when they do. He says he's proud to show off his wife---all made up for him. Aaaww...

Mavi...
Too much make-up is definitely a big no no!!! Face powder, a bit of shimmer in the lids and lips are better. stick to earth colors. It looks natural. But believe me, less is always better, at least when it comes to make-up.

Does anyone want a good haircut? Go to the Mezzanine Salon at Milelong sa Amorsolo, Makati. Look for Paulie. He does wonders!

vega

makeup should be used to enhance your features. how dark or how light your make up is should depend on the activity that you're going to. i agree with mavi that it would look funny if you're all dressed up in a gown and have no makeup on.

mascara can be used daily if you use those waterproof ones. one coat should be enough though. if you don't want to use mascara everyday, just make sure to curl your lashes daily with one of those eyelash curler contraptions because they make the eyes look bigger.

this isn't really a "makeup" tip but one of the best things i've done to my face is get my eyebrows fixed. clean up the the stray hair around the natural shape of the eyebrows. have the eyebrows shaped (not SHAVED! too thin eyebrows are not nice)... it opens the eyes and does wonders to your face. some parlors actually offer this service (in the form of threading, waxing, etc) try it and let me know what you think.

Thanks glasshouse and vega. I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Just to give you an idea of how careless i am as to where appearances are concerned: I have an upcoming conference and I was adviced to do something about my severe hairstyle. I never knew I looked that bad! Maybe a visit at the Mezzanine could do me wonders...

Just tell Paulie what you want done to your hair. But if you don't have any idea of what you exactly want, ask him for suggestions. You'll be happy with the results. If not, lunch is on me.

I prefer light, natural, almost a no-make-up look for everyday wear. I think the goal of putting on make-up should be to enhance one's features---underplaying what you don't like about your face and enhancing whatever it is you think is your asset.

By the way, does anyone have tips for preventing mascara to smear? And, which foundations are best for Asian complexion?

mavi: me rin.. i used to be a no make up at all kinda girl.. until i started working. and then, i spotted girls without make up in thework place.. ang yuky tingnan... didn't want to look like that. so i had to learn... basics lang though...

my make up basics
- moisturizer (to prevent wrinkles and help set your face powder, i'd recommend the yellow stuff from clinique or the moisturizer of clean and clear)
- face powder- the best i've used so far (best means good coverage and great price) is from acmedica (you can buy this at PCX in glorrieta 1) cheap lang, P175 per compact and the coverage is great! and it looks like you don't have anything on... parang natural lang. ;) now if you really want to splurge, try le clerc's banane... they say its the secret of the stars.... pero the price is prohibitive.. P1200 per compact. you can buy this in rustans...
- blush in earth tones
- lash curler, no mascara
- lip moisturizer and sheer lipstick or tinted lip moisturizer (blistex liptone is okay..)

but for big events.. ah, eh, i leave that to the experts. with close supervision and explicit instructions that I DON'T WANT TO LOOK LIKE PATTY BAKER.

KABUKI QUEEN?! LOL there actually someone in school na ganun... wawa naman siye... either kabuki queen and tawag or powder... para kasing she uses flour as face powder eh... ;)

mascara for everyday? i don't... too heavy. but curling your lashes will do the trick... i didn't know this until my friend told me to try it... it really makes a difference! "opens" up your eyes talaga... lalo na singkit ako... ;)

haircut: i go to franck provost in jupiter street. mejo mahal... but definitely worth it. angelo is a wonder with hair. i just give him instructions that i want a NO-MAINTENANCE do. for me, confidence that i'll look good after he's done is justification enough for the price. i've had a really HORRIBLE haircut and it was the worst day of my life!!! di ako pumasok sa office and school that day... i just cried my eyes out. and it didn't help that my boyfriend then was trying to be nice about it by saying it was okay when it clearly was a bad bad bad haircut! yargh!! never again...

hi makeup experts! here's my problem. ive got really sensitive and dry skin. i use moisturizer on my face and that's about the beauty ritual i do. i feel that it doesnt look so bad without face powder naman. so, does that mean i dont need face powder? ive got the t.le clerc powder and when i use it, i dont seem to notice any change. am i doing something wrong?

re: the face powder not showing up. that's okay. at least i don't think so. i mean, you don't want it to be obvious right? isn't that the whole point of makeup? to look good while looking natural? if you wanna end up looking like a kabuki queen, then go for cake foundations! personally, i'd go for pressed powder. le clerc is good. what shade do you use?

hi blue babe,
im using orchidee. i wanted to get banane but they ran out. and the case i got was a gold one cause they ran out of the platinum one. too bad for me. mas maganda sana ang platinum case.
about moisturizing, i dont moisturize my forehead (uh-oh i think i have forehead wrinkles too) cause i get pimples in that area. *sigh* it's so hard to have combination skin. what can u suggest i do? moisturize the forehead too and risk getting pimples? =)

p.s.

Oooh makeup! Maybe I should justify the number of times friends have called me kikay...

One of the best tips I learned early on is that you should only have one feature on your face as a "focus". Like, just work on the eyes, or the mouth at a time. You don't want people being distracted from an overdone look.

Another thing is, you don't always need foundation. Foundation can just be placed in places which needs to be evened out. Of course, you must have the right shade for you. (Do not test on your hand when buying, that's so misleading! Try the jawline.)

On mascara... I always used to depend on this, thinking that this was my key to low-maintenance glamour. Then I learned how to used eyeliner. I hear that if u use dark brown eyeliner close to your lashes on your upperlid, u don't need to apply mascara anymore. Oh, and a trick for avoiding clumping (because even beauty mags attest to the fact that there is no mascara that won't clump) -- run the wand through tissue paper; there is usually a lot of excess already, and all that gunk is what causes the unsightly clumps.

And honestly, practice helps. Eventually you learn what's good on you after some trial and error. I learned after grad when I was out as much as I could be, and that means prepping up too. I've even learned to do my makeup in the car too especially if I'm coming from work and need to be more made up for the evening. You don't have to spend hours on your makeup.

Natural is good for daytime, definitely. But sometimes, I like putting on my dark silver liner from Streetwear when I feel like it. You eventually develop your style, and that applies to makeup too. Simple is always a good thing though. If you're unsure, go with the minimum.

Latest kikay discovery: for people who don't have the kind of straight hair most Pinoys have, and instead have wavy, prone to frizz hair, try hair wax. Bodyshop has glossing wax which I swear by now.

I don't go to salons for makeup anymore. I think that's been since the minimalist look hit, and I've stuck with it since then -- at least for events when I had to play it safe. But for hair, I finally found a haridresser who agrees with me: Leo from Cuts and Capuccino in Galleria (price isn't steep too at P150). But then, to each his own, coz admittedly, his "expertise" on my hair improved with each visit.

Moisturizer -- this is an essential. For all skin types. You just have to find the one that's right for your skin. For combo skin, Clinique has one. Yes, it's pricey, but at least you don't feel oily after, and you're still moisturizing.

Now, my turn to ask for some advice -- what are the good lipstick brands? The ones that don't wear off easily? We all know about those long-wearing, colorstay types which totally dry out the lips. But when I want to wear dark lipstick and party, they seem to be the only option, or else my mouth fades too quickly in the night. Suggestions please.

Best kissproof, longlasting lipstick I've tried is MAC- yun mga matte shades nila. It's got less oils kaya it doesn't wear off easily. Tried and tested by yours truly!
How come there are some shades of lipstick that eerily gives your face and lips a bluish hue? Napansin ko yan sa mga deep colors ng lipstick...parang there's something blue about your face pero you just can't quite put your finger on it.

Pag pumupunta sa offc, mas maganda ang naka make-up.. mas desente ang dating at professional... pero siyempre depende lahat yan sa pag aapply at pag re-retouch nyo..

Kikay tips:
It all depends sa type ng skin mo..
For powder, kung tulad ng skin ko which is natural lang, (yun yung sa t-zone lang nag-o-oil, at hindi naman excessive) I recommend, covergirl... hindi siya nagma-mapa sa mukha, and at the same time hindi mo na kailangan ng foundation.. kung gusto mo cheaper, the best, ponds oil control.
Eyebrows.. the best na gamitin is dark brown eye make up.. just dip your eye brush in water (pero siyempre hindi dripping wet ha) tapos use it with the application of your eye brow.. mas malinis na mas mukha pang natural.. (wag too much ha baka mag mukha namang nag pa tatoo kayo ng kilay) :) always use eyebrow brush to blend it in..
Eye make up... mas maganda pa rin ang meron kahit konti para at least hindi mukhang maghiwalay ang kulay ng mukha ninyo sa eyes ninyo.. example, naka lipstick kayo ng super dark, tapos napaka plain ng eyes ninyo, mag mu-mukha kayong sinuntok sa nguso.. kung may eye make up kayo kahit konti, it would look elegant.. for everyday wear I would suggest kahit yung blusher lang na between brown and red.. never orange, or red... at wag lipstick pleeaaseee!!! pwede rin yung dark bronze para metallic, but not too much dahil morning wear nga eh. ok yung dark eye make up sa evening...pero depende din yan sa korte ng mata ninyo ha..
lipstick... I recommend pa rin talag VMV kasi hindi nakaka crack ng lips.. same with eye make up mas maganda lighter ang lipstick sa morning.. I also recommend revlon moisture stay.... malamig sa lips, may vitamin e and nakakawala ng lines...
foundation... sa morning as much as possible kung ok naman ang skin ninyo wag na... baka kasi mag mukha kayong manika... pero kung gusto ninyo ok din pero not too much in the morning.. ang brand na ok is yung max factor na cake foundation.. you use it with wet sponge, siyempre pataas ang strokes to avoid wrinkles...ok ang max factor dahil hindi nag pro-produce ng oils.. at konting pat lang ng powder sa nose for retouching ok na...
Take note girls!!! if you are trying on a foundation or powder for your skin tone, wag na wag sa back ng hands.. iba ang shade niyan sa mukha ninyo... better sa neck... para mas kita... for foundation get 1 shade higher than your skin lalo na pag acidic ang skin ninyo, and for powder, better, kakulay lang ng skin ninyo...
Pag nag ma-make up kayo never forget your neck.. baka mag mukha kayong naka mascara...
If you have any more questions, just ask!!!
OK ba girls ;)

most of my make-up is of earth tones so it looks natural when applied. i use neutrogena face powder - it's really 'beautiful & beneficial'. the best mascara i've had so far is l'oreal le grand curl - not clumpy at all and it curls your lashes and doesn't smear. for the lips - i go for lip pencils in spice or chocolate, or blistex lip tone.

sobra talaga pareho problem natin re: combi skin. i used to have a t zone rin eh.. that's why i didn't moisturize. then my cheeks started drying up. so i only moisturized that area (irregularly at that) and cleansed the rest of the t zone.

nung wala pa body shop here, i'd use an astringent. then i discovered tea tree oil when i was out of the country. buti na lang, they came here so i don't have a problem with it. i used the freshner as an astringent on my t zone. its a waterbased astringent, so it deep cleanses without drying as much. i don't know lang if it will work for you, but it really killed my zittles (those tiny zits on your forehead that look like goosebumps). you can try that.
also, to prevent my skin from drying out, i use cetaphil to cleanse.
if you want, they also have this tinted t-zone base in body shop. if i recall correctly, its an oil control thing for use specifically on your tzone only.

hehehehe.. lumalabas ang pagkakikay ko...

thanks, blue babe for the additional tips. really depends nga kung ano ang bagay sa skin mo. so, we have to experiment experiment. i use cetaphil too. cause it's not harsh on my dry skin. right now, im experimenting on moisturizers. before i was using oil of olay. it was great on my skin and i love the smell. but my derma discouraged me from using it, cause it's scented daw. so, i switched to clinique dramatically different...
i might try that tea tree thing. nawawala ba talaga? o nga e. i hate it, cause it looks like goosebumps. hehehe.... i use the cream from neutrogena, on-the-spot... something to kill my pimples. it really works well.

Cala -- woohoo! pinanindigan mo nga yung kikay title mo sa atin. nicely done.

One thing nga lang: actually yung "I hear that if u use dark brown eyeliner close to your lashes on your upperlid, u don't need to apply mascara anymore." <;<; this only works if you have DARK lashes that dont blend into your skin tone from afar... it also will not work on people w short lashes. If you have light lashes or short ones (or both!) you have to use mascara when you use eyeliner otherwise the liner closes your eyes in and makes you look fierce.

another tip i learned from years of gigs: use light gloss to tame your eyebrows and keep them in place if you dont want to darken them. the gloss - applied lightly - acts like a light gel and maintains your eyebrows' shape. oh! and if you place foundation on your lips before applying lipstick, the color lasts longer.

If I were you, basta wash your face na lang before sleeping to remove excess oil from your face, wag kang gagamit ng imported soaps dahil malimit puro moisturizers yun dahil iba ang weather nila.
Suggestion for face powder, Ponds oil control. Aside it's much cheaper, you can wear it even without foundation.

tariray888:
i think the one you got comes in a small dark bottle with a dipper type thing right?i think that's for spot treatment. i have never tried that. the freshner is different. but the tea tree oil in itself won't clear up your skin. what you really need is a good cleansing regimen that suits your skin type. in case pareho tayo, i'll share with you mine. i have normal to dry skin. dati, t-zone, pero as i got older, my skin dried out (genetics, my mom has majorly dry skin. she actually puts BABY OIL on her face every day for the last 35 years or so and she NEVER got zits!!! good siguro kasi zitless siya, but bad, coz she's more prone to wrinkles like i am).
the very foundation for good skin is lots of water and lots of sleep. hehehehe... i have to sleep at least 10 hours a day. kapag 7 lang, feeling ko, super puyat ako. and i drink tons of water. in one studying session, i can consume 1 entire pitcher of water within 2 hours.
as for cleansing, i use cetaphil. its supposed to be really mild. so mild that you don't even have to rinse it off. the bottle tells you to just wipe it off. but personally, i rinse. i also use a face brush. you can get that at the health and beauty section of any department store. body shop also carries it. its a circular brush for the face. i use the body shope bamboo version. but i think its off the market. they still carry the plastic kind though. use it in a circular motion to lather up your face wash (althou cetaphil does not lather). this is for exfoliation. its after washing that i freshen up with my tea tree oil freshner. yun lang.
as for make up, keep it light and use it only when necessary. if you're going to stay home for the day, then avoid putting any. and NEVER sleep with make up on. maski umuwi ka pa ng 430am, wash!!!
hope your zittles disappear!

Great! I get all these tips for free? :)

Cala:
You're awesome! So much make-up knowledge I think I want to hire you! Biro lang. :)

Anyway, I'm not so much for a fan of make-up myself. (Time for a little feminist view!) I believe that we should all be accepted for who we are and not because our lips look so darn good! It's interesting to note that most women here in America can't live without it. They're almost confined and expected to wear make-up everyday. Otherwise, you won't be respected, let alone looked at. I think that's sad in the sense that we feel like it's a NECESSITY when in fact it isn't. I think it's more of a luxury than anything else.

But then again, as my roomate says: "I'm sorry, but EVERYONE could use a little make-up!"

I usually can't live without my watermelon lip gloss! Gloss is classy and playful, and most importantly healthy for your lips. From what I know, its shine is saying that you're "fun to kiss". hee hee...

I love my mascara too! But I DO hate all those clumps that make my eyes look like spiders. (Thanks for the tip on that, Cala!)

Oh, and Cala (again), my fave lipstick to wear is "rogue sensation" from Lancome. It's kinda pricey but it doesn't wear out as fast and it never dries my lips up.

Question: How do you do the "smokey eye" thing?

Question 2: Any tips on how to coat your bottom lashes with mascara?

Tip: I find that drinking lots of water usually clears my skin up! And avoid touching your hair and face. Lots of oil and dirt is transferred. You don't want that.

Myth: Leaving foundation on throughout the night will actually cause your face to age SEVEN years. (Help! Is there truth in this?)

as alot of the other people have said, no matter if you go home at 4 am na, always always clean your face! good skin is always the best beauty tool no matter what :D I also recomment the tea tree collection of the body shop. i think i shall paste what i posted over at PePs' thread at the other forum..here it is:
hmmm i'm a MAC addict...the make up artists at their SoHo shop are all ready my friends because i visit them once a week just to check things out and play with the cool stuff..hehe
My All-time must haves:
MAC Studio Fix powder NC 40. It's so funny that most filipinos want to look more maputi so they go over the top with very light foundation that doesn't match theit skintone. My friend who's really morena uses c3 and i'm like super pale (mestiza kuno! hehe) and i use c4 or NC40(in between c3 and C4) i complained about it with my stylist at MAC(he's a drag queen!) and he said that perfect match for me was NC40 and never ever go light..always try to match and being pale is never good..hehehe
MAC Taupe lipstick- this has been my color for 5 years now..you can never go wrong with this especially with MAC's spice lip pencil.. everybody uses it just because it matches with everything. Another great color is Diva which is avery deep red and Lust (and pervette, too!) which is a silvery pink
MAC brule eye shadow-best light eyeshadow..sama mo ren MAC's yoghurt..so light light light pink..looks almost
white but when the light touches it, it's pink pala
Origins Pinched Cheeks- i don't like blushes that much, but this tint is the best..gives u you that "just worked out" glow
Clinique's City Base-great foundation with SPF 15...well as dumb as this sounds, i use it at night (even if my SPF) when i'm going to be a diva(aka super kikay! )
Clinique glosswear in Coco plum at CLinique's almost lipstick in almost bare and black honey- light stains that give fantastic accent and color and looks extremely natural..sabi ng ex ko, sarap halikan..bwahahaha
Kiehl's Lip Balm-the best there is..sobra...simply the BEST..i think u can get it in MIX greenbelt
I also like FACE stockholm's eyedust and the trinity collection (ahem ahem..hehe)

New Faves:
MAC's lip glass in Nico- haaay my current obsession..i wear it night and day..had rave reviews when i was in Manila..everybody wanted it..hehe and i'm not going to give away any!!! LOL
Shu Uemura Pencil Eyeliner-it's so precise..lalo na for me who's always pasmado..hehe
Stila's shimmery dust-it's so nice..it's not so sticky like the glue like sticks from maybelline. It's like fairy dust to some extent..you put some on and you feel divine..hehehe
Philosophy's Hope in a Jar-one of the best (andkinda-too-expensive-for-me-but-bought-one-just-because ) but of course, nothing beats the classic Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion ..everybody in my family uses it..hehe

teka..mahaba na to..hehe i can go on and on and on..obvious bang kikay??? :D

BLUEBABE: thanks so much for the tip.i dnt think we have the same skin type, i hve normal to oily skin. well, m not really sure about that coz sometimes my skin s really dry especially if m not using moisturizer(weird no?). since i started using pure tea tree oil i stopped puting on moisturizer, that was 2 weeks ago.

you know what, i think i should stop using tea tree coz its not working for me anyway. i wanted to try cetaphil before pa but i was knida hesitant kse bka yung pimples ko maging acne! actually, i dnt hve much zits on my face, kaya *** i really wanted to have a pimple-free face. do u still suggest that i use cetaphil for cleansing even if m not puting on make-up(no foundations etc)?

have u tried going to derma? any suggestions? thanks so much!

tariray:
up until a couple of years ago, ganyan rin skin ko. dry then when i use moisturizer, oily. wierd talaga.

as for cetaphil, i learned to use it, kasi my son had facial rashes as an infant. his pedia said that mild daw ang cetaphil. so i used it on my face na rin, and it works for me. kasi, with other cleansers, i get this tight feeling, parang over-cleansed (especially with soaps and neutrogena). but not with cetaphil.

as for dermas, yes, i do go to one. i never really had a skin problem until after the birth of my son. my post partum depression manifested itself through my skin. for the first time, i had zits on my cheeks and my back!!! and i had dandruff rin! eeekkk!!! i felt soooo DIRTY. that's why i NEEDED to go to a derma then.
they're okay, but if you really don't have too much of a problem with your skin, they don't do much. siguro once a month cleaning lang or something, but nothing that a good skin routine can't handle. just make sure you go to a re****ble one, yung MD talaga. i wouldn't recommend facials dun sa parlor. feeling ko, i'll get craters on my face pag dun ako pumunta eh...

tariray: cetaphil is great. it's the only cleanser ive stuck with so far. tama si bluebabe, you feel that your skin is cleansed without that tight feeling. you dont even need a moisturizer na if it's not that dry. dont worry your pimples wont turn into acne cause this is for all skin types naman. our skin becomes dry when there is a change in weather (from warm to cool). since, it's warmer na lately, you may not need moisturizer anymore. that is, if you use cetaphil ha.

since di nag work sa yo ang tea tree oil, try mo itreat ang pimples mo with neutrogena on-the-spot treatment. very effective sa kin, and it also worked for others. it dries the pimple up because of an active ingredient --salycylic acid ata yun. you can buy this from shoppesville sa greenhills. dun sa mga stores na nagbebenta ng mga pabango, shampoo, and other beauty products.

ok here's my two cents worth....

*if your using a shimmery/metallic shade in a light color(like sky blue or pink etc.) its best not to wear dark liner, from experience, it looks kinda weird.I suggest you get the REVLON sreetwear in ice(ice ba yung matte white on one end and frosty white on the other-basta that one)and put that under your shadow coz it makes it look like youre wearing the same color eyeliner as your shadow in a darker shade.

*always curl your lashes bfore putting mascara-lest your eyelashes fall out like my friends...oh my gosh---don't use MAC mascara it's all dry and it sucks!

*try puting foundation on your eyelids so eyeshadow stays put-MAC"S powder's nice coz you can use it wet or dry!,also powder of the same color as your eyeliner over your eyeliner so it doesnt smudge!

*if you have thin lips it's usually good to wear frosty or semi frosty(or really glossy) lipstick coz it makes your lips look fuller...for full lips, darker shades will help them look smaller....the two shades i love are MAC's "O" w/c is a semidark pinky frost with gold flecks, and "SMOOVE" which looks good under "O" for night time.

*my favorite eyeshadow shades at the moment are MAC's "TRAX" which is burgundy/purple with gold flecks(oh my gosh ang ganda!)"BRILL" which is a shimmery sky blue and "ELECTRA", the nicest silver shadow i've seen so far!

*before buying all the funky shades, make sure you have the basic/neutral colors. Many people are kinda hesitant to wear shadows like silver or whatever but it can actually look pretty natural during the day if you mix it with neutral shades. For a base, i suggest MAC"s "FORM" and "TAUPE", there are two kinds of TAUPE the matte and shimmer, they look good together.A nice brown shadow would be MAC's "FAKE"---its a natural brown. Once you have all the basic shades, it's easy to tone down the shimmers by wearing the hsimmery shadows on top of the matte ones so it doesn't come on too strong.

*I'm with you trinity, when it comes to MAC...I LOVE IT!It's all I would use if I could help it!hahaha....but when my wallet is medyo empty....i go to main street in beauty bar...it's locally made for expor i think and it's really nice and cheap pa-medyo ginagaya and MAC, so it's cool...their shadows are only p265-275 and lipsticks are p260 or something. and i recently discovered gel blush!oh my it's so much better than powder...it looks like you have naturally rosy cheeks...BENEFIT's BENEtint is good coz pwede din a lips ad eyelids...as well as Main Street's gel blush in "BARELY ROUGE"

---CGE NA, THAT WAS PROBABLY 5 DOLLARS WORTH NA!HAHAHAHA....HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!

Hi everyone!

I'm going to give my 2 cents on make-up, hope you get something out of it.

1st of all...start with a good moisturizer, if u apply anything on dry skin it will just flake off, so useless ang make-up. make sure your skin is dewy and moist. Sometimes I spray on the evian spritzer just to give my skin a boost.

Someone (i don't remember) said that we don't really need to apply foundation all over, this is true but make sure u blend well so that the streaks don't show.

Some makeup artists say that its best to apply foundation (the liquid kind) with a sponge but I personally think it's better to use my fingers kasi mas natural ang results. The natural heat from your fingers makes the foundation spread more easily. Now for cake-type foundations syempre walang choice, mag sponge kayo!

The best foundation (liquid) I've used so far are Estee Lauder Enlighten and Prescriptives. It's too bad that they don't sell Prescriptives in the Phils kasi those people really know what they're doing. They make sure that they match your skin exactly, and that should be the number 1 rule in foundation.....dapat when u apply it, it literally disappears in your skin.

As for eyes, I've noticed that light colors make your eyes bigger and dark ones make them look more intense and smaller. Depende sa type nyo!

As for blusher and compact powders, the best for me are the ones from Shiseido, medyo mahal pero super sulit. I use the modulative blusher which is a combination of three colors dark brown/light brown / and white so that when u apply it, super natural talaga.

I use naman the optimal pressed powder of Shiseido, super light sya and u won't even know it's there, pero it controls the oil.

BTW, don't be scared of a little oil showin on your face, kasi it makes u look healthy and glowing...pangit yung masyadong matte na parang galing morgue LOL!! :)

As for lipstick, super dami dyan, I guess it's just a matter of trial and error and see which works for u. Some advice lang, it's best if u have at least one natural color and one dark (for the evenings) I use all sorts of brands from loreal, maybelline, (don't like MAC coz they dry your lips) to Clinique and Estee Lauder. Super tip, try the ones in Bench, they have nice colors and they're very cheap (kaso lang may scent sya, and for those like me who don't want scented lipsticks...eh stay away na lang) BTW, don't get into a rut when wearing lipstick, make sure that your lipstick goes well with the color of your outfit, as a general rule, if youre wearing a red top, medyo sablay mag hot pink or frosted na orange, it doesn't have to match but just look at yourself in the mirror and see if it blends well. Like when I wear a black top, I usually wear dark red lipstick so that may contrast, I feel like a ghost pag dark yung clothes and natural ang lips.

Last tip, but those oil control films from "Clean and Clear" super the best for controling oil. Avoid putting layers and layers of powder during the day for each retouch.....kasi pag gabi na eh para na nga kayong kabuki!!

Sorry my post is soooo long I think I got carried away!

p.s. yung mascara pala, I never used to wear it pero now I can't go out anymore without it kasi it really makes your eyes look different. Kahit mascara lang kayo and lipgloos ok na!

do u guys use concealers? if so, what brand? i get dark circles around my eyes whenever i lack sleep. i've been trying to look for concealers that match well with my skin (fair) but am having no luck at all. your advice/ suggestions are badly needed. thanks!

katzmeeow

hi stripes!

Like you, I only need to use concealer when I lack sleep and I have dark circles under my eyes. I'm also fair-skinned kaya I know it's hard to find the right color.

Tip # 1 - The purpose of a concealer is to conceal any blemishes or like in our case dark circles under our eyes, which is why unlike a foundation (which is supposed to match your skintone exactly) a concealer is supposed to be lighter than your skin so that it will do it's purpose to conceal.

Tip # 2 - Contrary to what a lot of make-up tips say, don't apply the concealer before the foundation, put it after. The reason for that is when you apply the concealer first it tends to just rub off when you put your foundation on, and then u end up with a mess!

Tip # 3 - So after you've applied your foundation, apply your concealer using either your fingers with dabbing motions (do not rub it in) until it is well blended....Or use a make-up brush, the one sold at body shop is good, it helps blend the concealer without messing it up. Remember make sure that everything is well blended, you don't want to look like u have white patches on your face. Don't forget to apply concealer on the inner eye area, a lot of people forget to do this, (this is the area just to the left and right of where your nose begins) :)

Tip # 4 - always brush a light translucent powder over the concealer to set it.

I was using the concealer of the body shop but it tends to get cakey and powdery after a while. Now I'm using Maybelline Express Make-up, it's a tube that acts as foundation/concealer in one. I'm not sure if they have it here already but you can try the concealer at Loreal or Clinique. Or sometimes I use the lightest colored stick foundation (which is essentially the same as a concealer only packaged differently) So whatever brand foundation you're using, just look for a lighter shade of it (not the liquid kind) and use it as a concealer.

I hope I've helped you out stripes and good luck with your concealing. Keep me posted :)

you guys are really FULL-PLEDGED KIKAYS! ;)
and i love you for it coz im getting free beauty tips... :)
anyways im the type of girl whose not into using make-up...but i would like to try using some.
i want to start with using face powders and lipstick. i just bought a lipstick that finally looks good on me and the price is like oh my god! so now, im looking for a cheap and nice face powder that wont give me pimples coz my skin is soooo sensitive...plus i have to hide some blemishes. i bought a concealer but it looks like its not working that well. i cant use it everyday coz it doesnt blend with my skin color when im not using foundation. can you give suggestions where i can find a cheap and nice powder...and also how to use my concealer properly.
its only now that im starting to be a kikay and im like 20 already...
HAIR PROBLEMS:
- i hav long, brown, straight hair that looks better on me when its down. my problem is my hair "sticks" together when i dont brush it for an hour...or even in just thirty minutes! What shampoo and conditioner should i use? I'm using rejoice now.
- since my hair is long, im starting to have spilt endz...i know i need to hav my hair trimmed or else it'll be bad... can you suggest where (in the Katipunan area perhaps) should i get my hair trimmed... i tried David's and i dont quite like *** Ojie did to my hair...

hi blue_MD! :D

I don't really know a lot about make up... but I suggest you use Beauty Shop's concealer... here's how to apply (how I apply concealer... heehee! :D) :

1. put moisturizer (if your face is dry)
2. Apply foundation/powder
3. put concealer on whatever u want to hide... but in dots lang... like dab the concealer quickly onto the blemish then blend...
4. apply translucent powder lightly

hmm... apply just a lil bit of powder *** for a nicer look... cos concealer can't usually work by itself :) always remember to put powder LIGHTLY after applying d concealer...

Hmm... look for Candy or Roseann/ROsemary (heehee, i'm not sure LOL) in David's Katipunan... Candy cut my hair... alam mo naman itsura ko ngayon... hehehe! ikaw na *** bahala :p as for shampoo... try using Thermasilk... :) Hope I helped!

And sorry about the lipstick... i REALLY thought na... worth it naman dba??? :D

sampaguita-well, i think a good blotting paper will be fine if you have good normal skin for manila. if not, you can use a good face powder for oil control......there's this matte and fresh by eskinol u can buy in manila, it serves its purpose of keeping the skin fresh and relatively oil free, i personally only used it once since my friend sent it over here..but some of my other friends swear by it.

Hey guys, great tips you got going there...
To get back to the original statement put forward in this post and later on touched on by another poster, yes some feminists tend to look at make up as oppressive somehow, i have friends who not only not shave but they don't wear make up and they cut their own hair. They think that the us women are just hapless cashcows of the multi-billion dollar beauty industry and they don't want to be part of that. Sometimes I tend to find myself agreeing to some points in their argument, there is just too much stuff out there that women don't need to be slaves to.
I on the other hand, tend to look at make up and beauty products as a tool for self-expression. Even my hubby's the type of guy that prefers me without any make up on at all but he's not the type to stop me or anything. Mainly I use make up to reflect a mood or state of mind I am in, I often opt for funky stuff rather than neutral or natural looks. Once in a while if I've pulled an all-nighter and look like crap I'll put on some neutral camouflage gear to hide eye bags, brighten the eyes, etc. More often than not though if I know I'm going to be photographed I'll use feature enhancing techniques because photogenitcally I tend to look washed out and hardly recognize myself sometimes.
I also dyed my hair because I was just plain old tired of plain old black. I wasn't really attracted to natural-looking lighter colours like brown and the highlights look so I chose a red that wasn't crayon red but wasn't mousy auburn either.
Er, anyway I since all this great advice was going around, I was wondering if anyone knew of a lip balm that actually gets absorbed into your lips much like those fast-absorbing lotions for the body. Pretty much everything I've ever tried is goopy and although it's been recommended to have lip balm under your lipstick this never made any sense to me because then my lipstick would always slide right off.
So basically I need something that moisturizes but is absorbed and non-greasy.
Also, for some reason I don't like lipsticks, the only thing I'll use is lip liners for lining and filling. The closet thing to a lipstick I'll use is a colour stay type lipcolour, the ones that come in the skinny tubes. There's something about the feel and smell of lipstick that I don't really agree with.
BTW hello tr|n|ty peekaboo I see you!! :D

I put a lot of sunblock before going out. I dont forget to moisturize and go to the derma once a month. It's good to take good care of your skin and always remember not to sleep w/ make-up coz you're gonna wake up w/ zits. I only use powder and lip gloss, mascara too during daytime. And remember to drink lots of water. It's good for our skin.

PePs-naks shempre pinagaralan mo na!! LOKA!
i actually like britney spears' look in her video lucky..but not as lucky but as her self..she looks like butter!! hehehehe as for christina's new video, yep..she looks really good..gotta love her saucer-sized hoop earrings that i'm dying to have! Anyways, you can use your lip balm to achieve the lip glass look......get a small scoop of lip balm and leave it out para maging super soft...yun ang lipglass mo nah..put your lipstick muna then put the lip balm over....basta, the 'in' look now is the butter look...moisturize, moisturize, moisturize..dude, i liked your hair pala during my bday party..did u use molding mud?? mala-flying nun http://www.pinoyexchange.com/lol.gif

*BuTTerFly*-as for acne prone skin, have u tried the neutragena line? i personally recommend the clinique 3 step program..it comes in 3 formulations..strong, normal and mild. I'm not a big expert on cover ups, but you could use a good concealer(tip: try to match your concealer with your skin tone and not go lighter)

wowow-self tanners, i've used a few...i've tried estee lauder and bath & body works..verdict: estee lauder gives a natural glow...I cannot stay under the sun for a long time(i will look like a lobster after just a few minutes), so i rely on self tanners. I went to the body shop today and saw some self tanners..you can try using that. and oh yah, some self tanners can be too strong..try using it on your hands first...a friend of mine got a rash from it. and DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER YOU SLATHER THE STUFF ON YOUR SKIN!!!

oh yah, kikay bargain...BA-YO has a line of lip compacts..cute colors for just 198 bucks!!! it looks somewhat like the red earth's version(which costs 598 bucks) :)

wow. i cant believe that i went thought this whole thread after ignoring it for some time now.

i'm no kikay pro compared to trinity and peps and im just too happy with powder (compact or loose) or the occassional liquid foundation that i use as a bronzer.

my mom said i dont look good with make up on so i keep the makeup to a minimum. my bf hates it so more reason for me to not wear makeup. and my biggest reason is laziness. im too lazy to put makeup on, lalo na at nag cocommute lang ako. natutunaw lang ang makeup sa jeep.

i sometimes use astringent and moisturizer.

wala akong strict beauty regimen kasi nga tamad ako but i guess my skin's okay enough to leave the house without putting makeup on.

have lots of water and sleep.

and remember, SMILE! a happy disposition helps a lot, too. (and keep telling yourself you are beautiful, dont let anyone convince you otherwise.)

pcx has branches in:

festival mall (alabang)
tutuban center
times plaza in u.n. ave (taft)
qc - ala pa AFAIK

halata bang suki? hehe... heaven sa store na ito eh, parang the kikay shops in hongkong.

complaint ko lang is di gaanong competitive ang prices, although may sale sila minsan.

anywhere i go, i bring my kikay kit with me. and as a matter of fact, hindi siya make-up. my friends say parang buong bahay ko na yon and if ever may magnakaw nun ang lucky daw niya may instant parlor siya.
laman ng kikay kit ko ay brush, comb, mirror, hand sanitizer, mga acmedica stuff, lip gloss and balm, pressed powder, gatsby, hand lotion, paper soap, even nail cutter, evian, at kung anu-ano pa (hehe. la lang!!!). and i don't consider them make-up, just my kikay kit.
they say pagmakikay ka you're maarte. i know i'm not. pero yun pa rin ang views ng ibang people.
anyway about the topic make-up is good, make-up is ok as long as there is moderation and the occassion calls for it. and dapat nasa tamang oras, like an a.m. make-up ay para sa a.m. make-up. one should know how to blend and match colors ng eyeshadow, mascara, blush-on and syempre pa ang lipstick!!! pero bago ang lahat ng iyan, don't forget na ang foundation ay dapat same color ng skin para hindi mukang multo. sa mga teens like me, i think loose powder is ok para hindi mag-break out ang mga pimples just use the concealer stick for some problem areas.
minsan ok na ang eyeshadow, and lipstick, mag-brush ka na lang ng shiny powder, like gold or silver sa face.
i think the colors for this generation ng make-up sa gabi ay lavender, pink, blue at iba pang nice pastel colors. pero if you want to go wild, WHY NOT?
anyway ang haba na nito and i don't know kung i made a point na. basta always remember, after the occassion, clean your face (use pond's cold cream, and facial wash after)!!!

Wow, ako rin, can't believe I went thru this whole thread! great tips, I'll probably visit more often now :)

Hindi naman ako extremely kikay, but it IS fun putting on make-up. Mas importante sa akin ang skincare, suki ako ng Nivea, I use their lotions/moisturizers! The most important thing for me is eye cream--minimizes wrinkles! I like Body Shop's Eye Gel (soothing) and Vitamin E cream. I also like their Vitamin E lip balm, yummy vanilla flavor, and it works. Lip Scuff also works wonders.

For ppl w/oily skin, have u tried those blotting papers? I use Bench's Prescribe Facial Absorbent Paper, and it blots oil and not your makeup. have also tried the Johnson's brand, my friend likes that but I still prefer Bench's.

And my favorite tip is: to make your lipstick look "polished", use a lip brush! Application will be more even compared to applying lipstick directly from the tube.

I've finally got the right pack of the Gatsby facial paper! Ang laki ng problema ko 'no? Anyway, I agree, this is better than the Johnson's brand, so I'm switching.

I have another rave...also another Body Shop product, the Lip and Cheek tint which is part of their newest offering, the colours of seduction line. It comes in a vial, and if you didn't know better you'd think it was a perfume vial! Anyway, the color is really natural! I don't like wearing blush anymore because it looks fake, this tint looks like you do have rosy cheeks! And when you use it on your lips...same thing, naturalmente! The color I got is "01" and it really complements my natural lip color. basta, aliw talaga! The downside is...it doesn't taste good! Sana may flavor (flavored cheeks, too?!?)

as for kevyn aucoin's book, it's available at powerbooks..the old one that is..well i wouldnt know if the new one is out there na..the old one cost me 700 pesos..it's a really good book.

This is odd, i was going to post something about that Aucoin book too! Anyway, after searching again for a long time, nakakita ako sa National dito, at since sale pa naman sa NBS binili ko na. Akala ko sealed copy, kasi nga naka-plastic cover pa siya. Ngwek! Pagbukas ko sa kanya, may konting gusot na yung cover, tapos may damage pa 2 pages, siguro sa printing! Waaaaahhhh!

Kaya tapos ng mahabang kwentong ito, tanong ko lang: pilitin ko pa rin makahanap ng pampalit; kung wala talaga, tanggapin ko na lang na damaged copy ko (huhu, bad trip kasi kahit 20% discount, medyo mahal pa rin)...or does anyone want to get a 2nd hand copy?!? k.r., r u interested? it's aucoin's 2nd book, making faces.

BTW, the NBS here also has his 1st book, The Art of Makeup, pero ganun din yata, opened copy na siya tapos nilagyan lang ng cover...

cha: for powder, i would suggest MAC STUDIOFIX if you want heavy coverage. One advice though - be sure to buy the right shade for you. There are so many shades to choose from kasi. I was a Studiofix user not too long ago but i decided to switch to Shiseido coz I want a lighter coverage. It's more expensive though. For touch-ups, T. Le Clerc pressed powder in banane is a must-have for me. Or you can buy pressed powder that is pale yellow in color. That's one tip from Bobbi Brown that really worked for me! As for cheek tint, Benefit's good (too bad i can't use it since i have oily skin :( ) and so is Origins' Pinch Your Cheeks (available at Rustan's)

darby: i have to agree w/ Peps, at your age, powder and gloss are all you need. But if you want a slightly more made up look, a touch of pinkish blush-on will do! :) Try MAC (angel) or Clinique. Match that w/ a nude or red/pink gloss - pretty!

Hi there, I've recently bought HyperReal Foundation, Lipglass and Cheekhue all from MAC. Dami ko tuloy nagastos. Anyways, I would like to ask, what is the best way para tumagal ang blush-on? I've had Benetint, PYC, Philosophy, halos lahat na ng blush-on na maganda, but still, hindi sila nagstatay ng matagal. I'm hoping against hope that Cheekhue would be the one (cross fingers). Anyhow, has anyone of you tried Cheekhue and Cream Colour Base din ng MAC? I'm planning to buy Cream Colour Base kung sakaling pumalya yung Cheekhue, so peeps, pls help me with your opinion. Thanks.

Add an exotic bloom of color to lips and cheeks with Benefit's cult favorite rose-petal infused potion.
Application is easy, thanks to the built-in brush. You've seen the imitations ... here's the original lip and cheek stain coveted by the beauty elite.

I'm sure all the die-hard kikays are mourning the death of make-up god Kevyn Aucoin...

RIP Mr. Aucoin.

It is sad to hear about Aucoin passing away... Perhaps God/dess wanted the angels to be made up? :)

And Kevyn cameoed in SATC! Just saw it tonight, kasi nga kanina yung premiere. Naaliw ako kasi may "product placement" pa siya, yung kanyang Face Forward book, and...is that a photo of his boyfriend on the mirror?!?

Anyway, me still raving over MAC Lacquer, just tried it recently. Galing talaga, not drying like matte lipsticks yet not too gloopy like lipglosses, but it stays on and it's also easy to remove. Wohoo! Tapos pag lumalabas ako ng bahay, napapansin ko ang daming tumitingin sa lips ko :glee: Intriga kaya sila sa color? shiny kasi eh...tapos summer pa dito! haha.

There's a new mascara I want to try, it's called Lash Discovery (if I'm not mistaken) from Maybelline. May ads na sa magazines pero wala pa sa stores dito. Duh?

I saw him on SATC too last night :( Didn't notice the bf's pic, though. He also has a cameo in this movie called "Intern" headed by Dominique Swain w/c was rerun by Star Movies a couple of days ago. E! Philippines (w/c is always shown about a week late here) made mention of his death last night. Just a very short narrated report - there wasn't even a picture flashed.

Hola mga kikays!

Lotsa kikay stuff to rave about. My current faves are -

shu uemura shimmer eye shadow - this one's really good. texture's nice and it stays even if i have oily lids! it's so light lang - perfect for someone who's not really into eye makeup like me.

NARS Orgasm blush - light shimmery peachy pink blush on that's just lso pretty. I want a plum blush next - any recs?

MAC Lip Lacquer in varneesh - this is an all time fave. been using it for over a year na and am on my second tube already.

Peps: The YSL Mascara seems really nice! I'm currently looking for a new mascara since i've used up my Lancome Defincils. Have you tried the latter? Which one's better? I have no problem with length. I'm more concerned w/ volume. :)

juvegrrrl: Hmm, i don't know w/ Maybelline Mascaras but they just smudge all the time no matter how little i apply (i've tried great lash, waterproof, full n soft). I think their Great Lash mascara (their best-seller and voted many times as the #1 mascara) is the most overrated product. But that's just me :)

Wow MAC, ORIGINS, NARS, SHU UEMURA, BOBBI BROWN, SHISEIDO are all here na! Yipee :)

thanks for the recs!

is there such a thing here or elsewhere sa net?

m looking kc for a salon that really does a good job of diagnosing your hair and/or skin before recommending treatments. kc i've tried the david salons here at sm mega they dont even take time with you
they'll just say ay pa-relax mo or pa-cellophane ka
wihtout really asking you kung ano ba ang lifestyle requirements mo, what treatments have you had...

saan kaya me salon na ganito? i dotn mind paying as long as its sulit...

novalee, actually I'm not a big Maybelline fan either, just saw they have a new mascara and wanted to try it. Because I still haven't found a mascara that I really like! Nasubukan ko na rin all those other Maybelline mascaras, didn't like them either. I agree with you, Great Lash is SO overrated. I think with me, I'm more concerned about the applicator... ewan! I've tried an Estee Lauder and the Loreal Longitude mascaras...wow, galing! Gusto ko sila kaso mahal eh... well, the price of ka-kikayan :glee:

Hi! gotta love NARS Orgasm - it's my perfect summer blush.

plum blush? how bout 'Sin' - another NARS bestseller. it's plummy, wine color with shimmer. looks intimidating on the pan but it's really pretty. gives me the 'flushed cheeks' look. I use this during the winter months.

I also bought Maybelline's Lash Discovery mascara and I hated it.
it's very wet and it smeared big time.
my recent 'good' discovery was Olay Beauty Mascara - no smear, smudge, or clumps - but discontinued na, so back to my L'Oreal mascaras. currently using Superior Longitude. I only buy low-end/drugstore brand mascaras coz they have to be replaced in 3 months.

my other recent cosmetic purchases that I'm really loving right now are;

Chantecaille eyeshadows - silky smooth and pretty colors.
I got Quartz (shimmery soft petal/pink) and Tanzanite (shimmery dark purple).

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash eyeshadow in RoseGold (almost the same color as Ch-Quartz) and Gel eyeliners in Sepia (brown) and Violet Ink.

NARS eyeshadows in Ondine (shimmery greyish-lavander) and Nepal (shimmery champagne-rose)

L'Oreal ColorJuice Gloss in Opalescent Fizz, Ginger Fizz and Peach Fizz.

Jane EyeZings in Coolest Coral, Twilight Zone, and Magical Mushroom. cheap and good staying power

obviously, I've been in a lipgloss and eyeshadow phase.. :D

Well i did look for SIN last week coz i've seen it before and remembered that it's a rosy shade. Unfortunately, according to the sales rep at ESSENCES, phased out na daw. Siguro she meant na it's out of stock already coz the last time i checked Sephora's website, may SIN pa naman. :)

I'm a BeneFit fanatic, even if I only get the stuff whenever I travel - wider range of products at your disposal eh..I was kind of disappointed when they first had benefit here, they had none of their special stay-on stuff that adds a matte coat so your makeup doesn't smudge...my personal favorite is still dr. feelgood.

As for the mascara, Lancome Definicils Mascara is often included in those "best beauty buys" lists of mags like Allure & InStyle so maybe you should try that one.

*okay*
it coats your lashes very thinly kaya parang na se-separate lang yung hair. 1-2 coats, you're good na to go.

i have mine in brun kasi to match my hair, and i have it in two small tubes (kasi yung shelf life nila) : one for my lashes and one for my kilay :teehee:

hey been dying to try Lancome mascaras since goddess-knows-when! can't afford nga lang :hopeless: kung L'oreal mascaras nga lang, oks na sa akin, kaso averaging P500.... pero sandali, i can buy MAC lacquer which costs double that, pero not the mascara?!? priorities nga talaga :glee:

but curiosity has got the better of me. i tried the maybelline lash discovery... ok naman. yun nga lang, masyado yatang naging "mini" yung mini-brush nila, pakiramdam ko wala akong nalalagay sa lashes ko, siguro nakaka-2-3 coats pa. this mascara will do for now...

i would advise against curling your lashes that often. please keep in mind that your lashes shed and replace roughly every three months pa. now if you curl it that often, 'nabubugbog' yan and may tendency to fall off and it wont grow until it should and you are left with les hair than you began with, gets?

when purchasing heavy-duty mascara, look not only for waterproof, but smudgeproof as well. this type of formulation will adhere to your lashes like, i dunno, a querida to a super rich lolo.
opt for mascaras that 'curl' your lashes na lang, so you wont have to use the curlash. le grand curl by l'oreal is good. take care of your mascara too. never ever pump as this will introduce air inside and make your make up susceptible to bacteria. delikado yan sa peepers mo.
remeber to let lashes dry in between coats. i know it's a given but i cant stress that enough. sa last coat, comb your lashes through to separate the hair. you can use a lash comb for this or clear mascara. i use the latter personally para in case may dry clumps (which usually happens when you're mascara is more than a month old) sasama sha sa brush (although the downside is your clear mascara wont be clear anymore) :teehee:

pero sa yo, if your lashes are as short as you make them appear, i'd recommend max factor's 2000 calories.

well, you have to have great skin.

kung light nga yun, don't use heavy make-up. use a base corrector or a demi-matte foundation like that of lancome's.

if you have oily skin i recommend using a clear oil control base.

well PePs can get away without make up, that much i can tell you.
anyway hmmm regimen?
i use whatever's available

ako yata ang taong hindi marunong gumamit ng sabon. nangangati ako eh, both sa face and body

pero kung face lang pag-uusapan, i use phisohex in the morning and cetaphil at night and this eye gel with liposomes (by adrienne arpel).
the nutrogena hand cream for my hands and (don't laugh) pond's whitening fluid for my feet tapos i wear socks
i don't moisturize much kasi i have oily skin and sunblock na nga gives me the icky feeling.
i drink lots of water though (and my hips can attest to that! *water-retainer* ahahaha).

what do i have on my face today?
i skipped the foundation kasi the heat is UNFORGIVING so in lieu of that i used a base corrector, it works like a concealer but lighter since it's liquid and it has these light reflecting particles which makes your skin look dewy.
tapos for my eyes, i have on clinique's smudgicle in nude shimmy, cheeks naman, their blushwear in shy blush tapos lips er, princessa marcella borghese glossi in glow02.

 mukha akong alang make-up. ahahahaha.

susme.

tamad din ako mag retouch so a face powder ( i use CD in sahara beige. pricey yes, but perfect...well at least for me) and oil blotters.

(pahabol)

oceanblue
i wouldn't know about plucking the hair above the upper lip kasi i don't have that problem (lahat ng stray facial hair ko napunta sa eyelid  )but pa-wax mo na lang. parang hassle eh, and not to mention painful.

if she's maputi and kung hindi naman madami, maybe she can try bleaching it although it's hard to recommend kasi i have to see it to assess properly.

anyway yun lang. :teehee:

hey guys! thanks for the tips! you all RULE! anyway i have several(actually lots) of questions i want to ask all of you. i do hope you can enlighten me on this.

--what is the most affordable yet effective pressed powder? I want to try Neutrogena's dual powder. Is it effective?Does it give good coverage? i have oily skin.

--is Maybelline's Express Makeup (the one that comes in a stick that is supposedly a powder-foundation-and-concealer in one) any good? if so, should i get a tint that matches my skin tone exactly or a shade lighter?

--what is the absolute best brand of foundation for oily skin?

--loose powders: help! i need to know which brand is the most affordable and won't cause blemishes

--is it better to rotate and NOT use just one shampoo? i use pantene and some days it works for my hair(which is on the thick and a bit unruly side) and some days it doesn't. i'm considering buying Neutrogena's anti-residue shampoo instead of rotating several shampoos a week.

--which blush is better for those with complexions on the oily side? cream(like the one from Bench) or powder?

--is the Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil Line really effective in combating zits? If so, do I need to buy the entire line (the cleanser, freshener and and such) or will one product do? i'm currently using PanOxyl's acnegel but i have the feeling that my skin is getting accustomed to it.

--what eyeshadow colors do you guys think are the foundation for a good makeup kit? can you recommend brands?

--i'm still a student so i'm a bit hesitant about using lipsticks for everyday wear. i love wearing lip glosses though. i currently use Bonne Belle's. what other brands can you guys recommend?

thanks in advance for the help guys!! Let me just say this again: YOU RULE!!

if you have oily skin you should not be dependent on face powders to remove the shine. a weekly oatmeal mask should help you out. to combat shine, opt for oil blotters. i haven't tried nutrogena's dual powder and i think this should be answered by someone who has, so anyone? :teehee:

--is Maybelline's Express Makeup (the one that comes in a stick that is supposedly a powder-foundation-and-concealer in one) any good? if so, should i get a tint that matches my skin tone exactly or a shade lighter?
this is the one sarah michelle gellar endorses right? one thing i learned from prescriptives:colorprinting. you should match your make-up to your skin's tone or at least yung closest shade.

--what is the absolute best brand of foundation for oily skin?
for me? cover girl clean make up. the one with noxema.

--loose powders: help! i need to know which brand is the most affordable and won't cause blemishes
if you have oily skin nga i would rather you use loose powder than compact ones kasi the binder that holds the compact powder together is more often than not, oil-based. maybelline is good.

--is it better to rotate and NOT use just one shampoo? i use pantene and some days it works for my hair(which is on the thick and a bit unruly side) and some days it doesn't. i'm considering buying Neutrogena's anti-residue shampoo instead of rotating several shampoos a week.
i rotate shampoos but not that often. i finish naman the bottle, but at least once a week i clean my hair with cider vinegar to remove the residue (pero dapat wala akong gimik ha? ) and rinse it out with wilkins. water from our tap is hard and it defeats the purpose of cleansing if the water you use is chemical-laden.

--which blush is better for those with complexions on the oily side? cream(like the one from Bench) or powder?
depends on what look you are going for. it doesnt matter. cream would be easier to apply and powder blushes would minimize shiny cheeks

--is the Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil Line really effective in combating zits? If so, do I need to buy the entire line (the cleanser, freshener and and such) or will one product do? i'm currently using PanOxyl's acnegel but i have the feeling that my skin is getting accustomed to it.
ideally you should get the whole line kasi they were made to complement each other but me nga i use the spot treatment only. ehehehe. me din, my skin got immune to benzoyl peroxide. tea tree naman i love, because aside from it being a natural antiseptic, it dries my occasional zits without drying my skin.

--what eyeshadow colors do you guys think are the foundation for a good makeup kit? can you recommend brands?
i'd opt for earthtones. or a student like you, look for dual eyeshadows that complement each other like say, cream and coffee. most make up lines offer complementing eyeshadows although clinique is it for me.

--i'm still a student so i'm a bit hesitant about using lipsticks for everyday wear. i love wearing lip glosses though. i currently use Bonne Belle's. what other brands can you guys recommend?
go get those itty-bitty lipstick palette thingies, like that of read earth's then arm yourself with petroleum jelly, or your favorite gloss and your trusty lipbrush then you're good to go.

thanks in advance for the help guys!! Let me just say this again: YOU RULE!!
youre welcome but i suggest you wait for the others' response as well.

I went to the T.LeClerc counter in Beauty Bar this afternoon looking for Banane pressed powder, and sabi nung saleslady, wala na daw, and inuubos na lang lahat ng stock nila coz tatanggalin na daw ang T.LeClerc sa Beauty Bar and sa Rustans.

Anyone here tried the Rice Powder make-up? Yung similar sa T.LeClerc sa Beauty bar din. Maganda ba?

Hi! I just read the whole kikay corner thread, and I must say, I think you'll be the best people to answer my questions...

What's the best foundation for combination skin? I just had a make-over last week sa Bobbi Brown, kasi medyo engot ako sa make-up. I also tried Shiseido and MAC... I ended up buying MAC Studiofix, the oil control thing and loose powder from MAC. Pero, hindi pa din maganda yung coverage, blotchy pa din.

But I bought a blush, lipstick and lipgloss from Bobbi Brown. Sa Bobbi brown, they used a stick foundation na medyo malagkit yung feeling... Can you suggest a really good foundation? And a moisturizer that's not greasy?

And what's a really good regimen for combination skin? From facial wash to moisturizer and something that will make my pores minute? Ang laki kasi ng pores ko eh :(

All advices would be greatly appreciated.

yep, i agree. lancome definicils is v.nice.

for those with oily skin, i suggest C.Dior's iod Poudre D'eau/Aqua Powder. it comes in a blue plastic bottle, turns into gel like form that 'matifies and unifies t-zone face' (label) :) the dior lady sucked me into buying this and i have no regrets.

Q: how often should hot oil treatments be? safe ba every week?
and what's the best conditioner to use here in the phils?
i tried several from body shop but i didn't notice any difference from the local brands. they smell nicer lang.

hi guys...what's the best sunscreen/sunblock in the market? i couldn't seem to find anything that suits me...oily and super sensitive kasi skin ko. i've been using a sunblock formulated by my derma. ok naman sya...but it makes me look like a kabuki lady. ang hirap i-apply! i've tried a lot of products...vmv, clinique, kiehl's, nakaimbak lahat kasi mega react ang skin ko. :(

what's a base corrector? meron ba lancome or clarins nyan? btw, i use lancome's sunblock everyday on my face. Uunahin ko ba yun or mattifier muna if ever I decide to have full make up or something?

One more thing, what's a good eyebrow pencil? Arbee of MAC recommended the brunette for me, and I'm currently using it. But as much as I love MAC, I'm beginning to realize that it's only tops in terms of the colors of its products but definitely not in terms of texture. So.... can anyone please recommend a good eyebrow pencil?

Kung papabili ako ng shu, anong katumbas ng MAC's brunette?

Lancome talaga the best. Pricey but really good. Doesn't clog pores. Yung clinique pangit talaga sa oily skin. Kahit anong promise pa nya, promise, 10 minutes lang pag labas mo ng bahay, wala na!

BG- re: eyebrow pencil..u know what i learned..it's better to use eyeshadow to fill in your brows..what you do is get a little plate, fill it with water...wet your brush(preferrably a thin slant tip) and dip it in your color of choice(i use MAC's concrete)....it's becomes something like a palette and canvass..parang painter.. mas natural dating nya..this technique needs some practice...i also remember PePs suggesting to use real pencils...yung parang HB or something..i'm not sure the exact shade but i can really see logic behind it. you can use your fingers to lighten it di ba? parang charcoal painting :D as for sunblock, it's always the first thing you put on.

personally, i'm scared of the liquid eyeliner. you have to be really precise when you put it on and i think it looks too cleopatra-ish. BUT my best friend uses it. when she started using it a few years back, she looked like a very dark japanese girl LOL (she's 100% pure filipino and very morena)..now, it just suits her(or maybe i got used to it). she says that you really have to practice and make sure you're not pasmado. what is best? it really depends on what look you want. whenever i use eyeliner, i use pencil. and i don't like it too sharp because i want a more smokey look when i use an eyeliner.

purple_madness
Jun 10, 2002, 10:26 AM
i agree with tr|n|ty about using your eyeshadow to fill your brows in. estee lauder has a brow powder that comes with a not-so-stiff slant-tipped brush.
if you're going to use the wet method though, go for a shade lighter than your natural brow color lalo na kung may kodak moments yung pupuntahan mo kasi baka magmukha kang jughead sa pictures.
try using brown/black mascara to fill it in. use very light, sparse strokes. after nun, comb into place with clear mascara. clean up with your trutsy q-tip.

classy- what would the eyeliner be for? if you want to make your eyes bigger, line lang from your iris out, both sa taas and baba. NEVER line your rims. stay as close to your lashline as possible. try using powder and a very thin-tipped (pero hindi matulis ha?) sponge applicator.

tools are very essential.

BG: kung gagamit ka pencil, the best would be EE since it's dark and softer than HB

ako din, scared of liquid liners kasi i am pasmado. heheheheh.

doesn't MAC or origins sell brushes in Manila? but the best brushes are from shu uemura and from kevyn aucoin's own line. brushes are mahal but like painter's, beautiful paintings need exquisite tools. when you scrimp on quality, it will show and eventually, these brushes are going to fall apart.

I'm not a fan of Body Shop nor a regular user of concealer but i do have the Tea Trea Oil concealer from BS. It's quite good in covering blemishes but i can't say that it's great. My friends told me that Cinema Secrets has the best concealer.

Sama ako sa kikay shopping! :) I was just at Rustan's the other day. Grabe feeling Sephora! What with all the good brands that are available there already. I bought NARS the Multiple in Maui (LOVE it), Prescriptives Unmakeup liquid foundation (not too happy 'bout this one! :( ) and a Cosmo lipstick from MAC (tried and tested  )

Mikee? O baka you mean Arbee? Si Arbee yung sobrang ganda na kung ikaw babae ka, mahihiya kang babae ka kasi mas maganda pa sya sayo.

Arbee studied in Lasalle. And isa sya sa dalawang friends na gay na sobrang ganda na todo mas mukha pa silang babae at mas maganda pa sa half of the population of girls sa Pinas. G3 is the other one.

Mikee is really nice to customers. Kaso, I find Arbee more talented talaga.

annielise
Jun 30, 2002, 10:38 AM
Yeah was talking about Arbee. Mikee is more soft-spoken and mahinhin than Arbee. Mikee was the one who told me to buy the Blot Powder, the one u use for touch-ups instead of your pressed powder or foundation, it's sheer so ur face doesn't look so cakey or dark at the end of the day. I tried it and it's nice pala. No need to bring my foundation or pressed powder with me, just use the Blot Powder for touch-ups.

I just mentioned Arbee cos he's so funny but talented, albeit a tad snotty (although it didn't bother me, bagay sa kanya eh). He recommended a shade of their lipstick that suited my lips and when I found out that it did, he remarked, "Yup, I knew that would be the perfect shade for you. Maiba naman. Yung ibang customers, iisa lang ang shade nilang alam: Twig. Every day there are clients coming in saying, 'One Twig, one Twig, one Twig. Parang nagiging take-out counter na to. Buong Makati Twig ang suot." LOL..:D And the way he said it was so funny. Oh well only people like him can pull those lines off...
