i don't know... no basis for comparison cause i only go to david's. i grew up with a barber cutting my hair pero when i went to david's, hay... sarap pala ng shampoo

I would have to say David's in Katipunan. I've been their customer for over 10 years, so they treat me very, very well. They know me, they know what color of highlights I put in my hair, they know who cuts my hair, they know how my hair grows and what is and isn't suitable for me, and when I arrive they quickly usher me in so I don't have to wait. But I think they don't do that to all their customers, unfortunately--nadala lang kasi I've patronized their establishment na kahit di pa David's ang pangalan ng parlor na iyon.

I love BCBG in 6750..great service and cutting edge technique!!! grabe....kinda steep but compared to prices in the states, it's such a bargain. You can order food from Cibo and then they ake these killer capuccinos that put figaro or starbucks to shame :D i recommend it!

I used to have mine in David's Katipunan as well. They're reasonably priced and I could relax when I let them do whatever they want with my hair. But that was back in my college days. Now I have my hair done at Arriba's along Zapote rd.(across alabang Town Center). It's steeply priced but the service is worth it. Look for Jeric.

Oh, and the ambiance: modern funk. (not punk, mind you)

Conio gurl...
I heard about BCBG from my tita. FOr the longest time, she had trouble with her thick hair but now, well, she looks great! But my personal choice is still David's Salon. :)

Ricky Reyes in Greenhills.
i don't know if the reason why badings make better hairdresser is because they're more talkative but i certainly enjoyed the brainless chatter of my bading, Arnel

Chiqui maweh!! Anong conio gurl ka dyan!! hehe well david's is always cool...hehe lalo na katipunan! anyways, i hope to see ya in a few days! i'm going home again :)

I go to Hairbytes at Katipunan. Sorry, but I never liked the service nor the cut in any David's branch. :(

Ira
Dec 14, 1999, 09:05 PM
Zen: I guess it depends on the hairstylist assigned to you din. My hairstylist in David's understands my hair, and they charge very reasonably, so I'm happy with them. Doesn't matter naman where you have it cut...going to the most expensive place in town isn't going to assure you that you have a nice haircut, anyway, no matter what the hairstylists there say. :)

i used to have my haircut din sa david's katipunan pero sabi nga, that was during college days...

and then i saw this friend with a really cool haircut tapos sabi niya sa roger craig daw, sa penn. i went there and liked what the hair stylist did to my hair!

Like ross, no basis for comparison 'cause I only go to David's. I'm not into parlors talaga. But I'm satisfied with them and it's near, so there you go.

Zen
Dec 15, 1999, 02:27 PM
Nah, not just the hairstylist. You remember the time I was with you? Took them 2 hours to get to me for a manicure (na nasira rin 10 minutes later). Laging ganun experience ko dun, kaya never mind. ;)

hey people....ive had long hair forever and i was wondering where i could go for a haircut-i want it short but i have this certain style in mind that i want and im nervous cos as i said, ive had long hair for the past like 10 years!I dont trust david's because every single time ive gone there for a cut theyve messed up. any suggestions and can u give me the prices na rin? THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

ira-thanks-how much would a cut be?

Ira
Dec 19, 1999, 02:09 PM
Not sure. But knowing my cousins---MAHAL!! hehe. But if you're considering a drastic change in hairstyle, might as well invest on it on a place that does it well, then just have it trimmed somewhere cheaper, di ba? I'd guess PhP1000 would be ample.

excellent service! very friendly people and accommodating. Their cuts are very stylish and fashionable. The make up they use are all hypo-allergenic and non comedogenic so it won't clog pores and its long lasting pa.
Ambience is great, its so clean.

ako rin, i don't have any basis for comparison because i had my hair cut & highlighted only at a david's salon branch in makati during my vacation in the philz last year...even though i've only been there once, i have to agree that david's is one fine & funky salon...the staff were very attentive & they really make you feel like a princess (naks)...the price was indeed very steep but it was well worth it...i loved the way the hairstylist treated my hair that i still remember his name: alex jimenez...when i come back i'll make sure that i visit them again...

ya, speaking of Alex Jimenez, he was my stylist during his stint in David's Greenbelt. Heard he's now in Galleria. Galing nung guy na yun, at tsaka hindi siya plastic tulad ng ibang bading na mangkukulot! LOL!

hmmm...i'm considering Propaganda na!

mizzcherrypie
Jan 4, 2000, 02:21 PM
king jesse: bakla nga ba si alex? my cousin who i went with & i were debating about his gender because he wasn't very obvious...he didn't really act that effeminate like other gay hairstylists kaya we thought that he wasn't...anywayz, like you said, he wasn't plastic...he seemed very nice...so he's in galleria na pala...i'll make sure to take note of that...

May marami pang sobra na datung for other things diba?! ;)

Kung kayo happy pa rin sa salon, nasa inyo na yun!

BCBG - Bad Haircut, Good Service

Frank Provost (Jupiter)- Good Ambience, Good Service

Salon de Manila - Good hair color, Hair cut is good as long as you get the senior girl hairdresser, but the ambience needs improvement.

Roger Craig (Manila Peninsula) - Good Haircut, nice service and ambience :)

David's salon - Affordable, the haircut depends on who the hair dresser is, the ambience.. hmmm... it's too crowded.

yah i have to agree with king_jesse, i didn't have to elaborate on what i wanted and now everybody says my hair looks good :D... sayang nga, Jing used this crude mud that's like a gel but not too oily...it was really nice and good to use..pero HA! ang mahal..for a pot of it..mga 950 pesos..ano ka HILO! wag na uy! mag tya tyaga nalang ako mag mouse, blower tapos gel....all of that is much less than the damn crude mud crap! hehe

i tied out propaganda for the first time last week because ive been getting very good reviews from friends whove been there, i got alex, and he was cool coz i have long hair and i wanted it short and he was like nope, we should do it litle by little coz i might get overwhelmed, so he took like 2 and a half inches off my hair and added more layers, i love it.i head that its jing whos good with short hair? so maybe when im ready to just cut it all of....hehehehe
oh and i like their make up there..it looks clean and its le'clerc hehehe...coz u know how some salons have like really gross looking make up, and they dont even know how to put it on people...

go peps!! hehehe mabuhay ang mga alagad ni alex and jing http://www.pinoyexchange.com/silly.gif

as for BCBG, it's pretty good. That's the other salon i go to whenever i'm in town. But i think i'm going to be a loyal propanganda client starting this summer. As for Frank Provost, it's highly overrated and very expensive. My tita goes there and she gets the same haircut and highlight job i get from propaganda..she paid 3000 pesos!!! HELLO! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/cyclops.gif eh i just paid 1500 for everything in Propaganda!!! BUT then again, if you have the money to burn, y not?

i was a propaganda client din before, and it was jing who did my hair whenever i go there!! ok nga eh coz he did wonders to my hair kasi thick hair ko eh!! ok din ambiance dun!! :D

pero after a while, ti-nry namin sa bcbg, and ok dun!! pareho naman ng range sa propaganda yung price e pero para sakin mas ok din yung ambiance tsaka service...it was nida who did my hair and ang galing nya!! marami rin syang clients, and even yung boss tumitingin while she did my hair...hahahah d ata makapaniwala yung boss kasi numipis yung hair ko eh!! :D ok din yung mga tao nila dun!! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/girl.gif

hmmm... started out in roger craig's before pa. mga 4 years ago. service was excellent and the cuts were fantastic.

then, all the good people left! i followed crispin and lucy to hairbytes in shangrila. okay naman. pero one time, crispin gave me a REALLY BAD cut! as in... grabe...umiyak ako. didn't go to work, didn't go to school.
then i switched to angelo. he's now with franck provost. fantastic man. love him!!! i generally just sit down and say, sige, cut it na lang. i just don't want to be hassled by it. and he hasn't failed me yet. and i love the salon. its so clean and service is impeccable! they never keep you waiting, and if matatagalan ka, they massage you and pamper you to death. and the cuts aren't that expensive. di naman P1000. P495 a cut. at least, that's what they charge me. plus tip (i give angelo 150 or 200 and the assistants 50 each) bagsak, mga 700-750. okay lang. worth it.

sorry to all the david's fans out there, but once, because i wanted to make tipid a little, i went to david's makati ave. NEVER AGAIN!!! grabe. they made me wait. masungit yung receptionist, and when i asked the girl who gave me a hot oil for extra time sa masahe, she REFUSED!!! hanggang 15 minutes lang daw! and to think i had a manicure, pedicure, footscrub, hotoil and cut! i would think they'd give me a little more importance no!

http://www.pinoyexchange.com/grrr.gif grr... unlike in franck provost, princessa ako! i get my money's worth. kaya di ako nanghihinayang magpagupit dun no!!! worth it talaga. EXCELLENT!!!

blue babe: True ka dyan! David's is awful.

Or maybe David's Katipunan lang (sorry, Doc!). I first had my hair cut there in 2nd year high school, and they absolutely destrpyed my hair. And to think na ang dali dali nalang ng buhok ko, coz I have straight, blah hair. It was just a silly hair cut, pero tabingi!!

The next time, I said I'd give them a try again. Baka naman nagkamali lang ako the first time. But NO!! It happened again. This time, when I requested a certain length (chin level)... ginawa ba namang waay above my chin, and I looked disgustingly like a boy. Eeew!!

After a year, i granted them another chance to redeem themselves. This time, i asked my hair to be layered... and what did I achieve?? An apple cut!! Ngek!! Ang layo non, ha!!

But still i gave them a fourth chance, since all my friends insisted that they're a good salon. This time, my hair was long already, so all i wanted was a trim. And since that was all i was there for, tinarayan ako since i asked not my hair to be given any 'in' style. Hmph!

For everyone living in the QC area... and for those who want value AND good service, try SALON 108 along Congressional Avenue in Proj. 8. They're VERY clean (i think this is very important), modern and they offer various services at very reasonable prices (waaaaaaay below the price ranges the rest of you mentioned). :) This is my opinion, but from experience, if you were looking for a salon with the price range of DAVID's, try checking out the one i'm recommending instead. It's less commercialized pa. :)

PROPAGANDA is the best! before my propaganda days, i would make sure that i havent made plans to go out after a haircut kasi baka panget (which is almost always true. kasi kahit yung cut ok lang, yung pag blow dry naman is so un-natural and puffy). the first time i had my hair cut in propaganda (by rita), i was pleasantly surprised with the result. normally kasi when i ask other hairdressers what's bagay, they would say "ikaw, anong gusto mo?" which is really irritating kasi they should know better nga. rita gives suggestions and she doesnt just go and cut your hair whichever way you want it, she'll tell you if it's a good idea or not. recently, nagmamadali kasi ako so i just had my haircut at david's. it's weird but i almost felt guilty (feeling ko nag-cheat ako haha!). i swore to myself i'll just go back to propaganda. it's the best i've tried!

Wow great reviews for Propaganda ha!!

Badgirl, peps and the rest of the Propaganda fanatics: I have long hair and i want to keep it that way until my graduation (which is soon), but i want to have long layers at the back. I don't want those short layers anymore because it's such a high maintenance 'do esp. with my hair texture..so anyway, who do you recommend - Jing (not because he's a cutie ha!), Alex (i heard he's good with long hair?) or Rita (I saw the makeover she did for Cosmo mag and it's really great)?
Thanks guys :)

I think I'm gonna wake up this thread. :)

After I've heard and read all the raves about Propaganda, I've decided to give it a shot. I have an appointment with Alex for Wednesday. I hope it's really as good as everyone says. :)

thanks to this topic i tried propaganda and all i can say is they're the best! rita was the one who cut my hair =) my hair was sooo long and i wanted a make over. i told her i wanted to cut my hair short n she's like.. let's not make it so short coz baka mabigla, ako na bahala! the result: l it was soo nice, everyone was loved my haircut! i'm definitely going back 2 propaganda!

I have a regular hairstylist at Salon (along Pasay Road, Makati). Joseph is the only person I allow to cut my hair (he's been doing that since I was in high school). He's really good :)

I've tried BCBG for Highlights. Their service was good & their staff is friendly naman. The job they did was ok naman, not bad but I expected better. Their prices are pretty steep though.

So which is better, Propaganda or Franck Provost? In terms of service, price (for highlights & haircut), everything :) And what about Basement? Is that pretty good too? Please compare, I need to see which salon I wanna try out next. Thanks :)

Well, I tried both Propaganda and Provost.

I had a haircut and highlight sa Propaganda dati.

For now, puros hair cuts lang ako sa Provost.

I'm more at home sa Provost. The staff is friendlier and the ambience is waaaay better than Propaganda. And Angelo is simply wonderful!

I find the staff at Propaganda snooty. And they are more expensive na ha. But Jing Monis is great...and cute pa. :D I like the color he did sa hair ko dati. And the haircut he gave me was great. Since I had long hair that time and I didn't really expect much can be done sa hair ko, kasi naman d ba pag long hair layers lang and stuff. Well, he placed better layers. NO kidding, ang galing talaga ng labas. :D

Pero for now, Provost ako.

I go to Franck Provost too. After years and years of finding just the right salon, I'm glad I tried Provost. I have "sponghado" hair plus a bit of curls. What I like about my stylist (MJ) is that even before she had my hair washed she checked on how my hair "fell", where the curls were, etc., then she decided on the best cut for me. She did a good job. I can go for over a month without a trim and I don't have to worry about "tikwas".

mitzel: exactly!
:D
When I had long hair, my friend and I suddenly decided to cut our hair short as in really really drastically short. E tyempo we were in Rob Place.E knowing me,if I want it, I want it done na-agad! So DAvid's lang talaga. Maganda naman yung labas, but after a week ang panget na! As in tikwas and all. I had to use mousse (spell check) to tame my hair.

And my hair is straight ha. AS in walang curls or anything. And never pa ako gumamit ng mousse to tame my hair. Noonlang.

And then, bluebabe introduced me to F.Provost, grabe agn galing, 2 months bago ako bumalik, and wala pang tikwas and anything yun ha! Now yung mousse na binili ko..dust collector nalang.:D Sayang pera.

Last haircut ko, noong december 8, so medyo 3 months na ok parin hair ko! Ang galing! :D Pero babalik na ako, gusto ko na paikli ulet e. heheheheh. Pero after ng chicken pox ko. :D Mga next next week siguro.

kaya nga, you pay good money for quality.

some ppl likes to berate me for paying that much money for a haircut...e..the point is, najujustify ko naman sa SARILI ko yung ginagastos ko e. so tuloy ang ligaya! :D

Hi Dee dee

Regular trim done by a senior stylist is P480. I think it's more expensive if you ask the french stylists to do your hair. MJ does a good job. Good luck!

mitzel: last i went there it was 550 kay Angelo.

provost is really good. I got angelo to do my hair and color. i didn't really ask for anything spectacular with my hair during that time because i was growing it out. the color definitely looks soooooooo good. all praises from everybody

propaganda is also good. i try to go there as often as i can whenever i'm home. and Jing can be very 'snooty' looking but if you make him chika, di naman gaano. I guess we had alot of things in common like he used to hang out at the same places i hang out here in New York. And he's good friends with my MAC stylist. i didn't really feel that the staff was snooty either.

I've never tried basement..BUT my tita goes there..i think it's beside Bistro 110 in Makati. lotsa socialites go there...not that's the basis of a great salon. but you can try it out...my tita looks great anyways. I'd recommend emphasis in rockwell..same price as propaganda or provost...they've actually pirated a lot of BCBG people..and from what i heard, BCBG is going down. My cousin went to emphasis for her wedding..i think she looked astonishing....i really wish her wedding can be featured in InStyle or Martha Stewart Living.

propaganda-rustan's makati 4th floor..beside clarins institute

dee-dee- i think it's best to call for an appointment. the appointment will insure you of 'on-time' service

as for tipping, i usually tip 100-150 for the person who cuts my hair..then for the girls who shampoo, blowdry, set..mga 20-50

Yup, Trinity is right, it's better if you call for an appointment. That way, you get serviced the minute you walk-in. Franck Provost's number is 895-3401 to 03. They're closed on Sundays though. Good luck!

Propaganda already transferred to Greenbelt Mall around 2 months ago. The exact address is :
Unit 303, 3rd Level
Greenbelt Mall
Paseo de Roxas, Makati

It's right beside National Sports Grill. :D

Good luck you guys who are going to try it there! I'm sure you'll love it there!

What about make-up? I just want to try and have my face done by someone for a change. Truth is, I'm clueless when it comes to make-up and I want someone to do it for me one time then I can take it from there. Where do you think I should go? I'd prefer natural looking, like "maaliwalas" and not pang fiesta where you have gobs of gunk on your face.

Plus hey Trinity, I notice you're the resident kikay here hehe.. let's say I only had P3,000. Which make-up essentials should I blow it out on?

but basics for me is a good powder, lipstick, tweezer, curlash, lipgloss/lipbalm, blush/tint

I agree! I tried Propaganda and got a good haircut from Gigi (ganda ng bagsak at hindi tumitikwas), but realized that I could have had the same cut at Regine's. Mas crowded nga lang, especially on weekends you really have to wait, but my hair always looks good. If the ambiance doesn't really matter to you (as in ok lang kung medyo maingay), it's a good place to go. Fe cuts my hair (or Sally pag wala si Fe). :D

Basement Salon at the Power Plant.

Nice ambience.... ganda ng loob... nice furniture and most importantly, they have great stylists....

Ken gives an edgier cut, while Manfred is more conservative. More pang-mommy.

Basement doesn't try to offer you a lot of services you don't need din kaya hindi ka naman masyado magugulat sa bill mo.
