Pipol! Where's the best tourist destination that u've been so far? Let's have 1 local (and 1 foreign, if there are any). And what made your stay there an enjoyable one? Is it the attractions, amenities, accessibility, or accommodations, etc.? :)

Ok, I'll start the ball rolling. For local, i guess it's a tie between Davao City and Palawan. They both cater to eco-tour enthusiasts, and accommodations aren't that heavy on the pocket...plus the food is just great!!! :)

For the foreign destination, when it comes to the enormous number of (and sizes as well) hotels, I haven't seen anything so glittered with lights and special effects - i'm referring to the world's gambling capital, Las Vegas in Nevada, USA. They've got replicas of world-famous attractions (from the Pyramids of Egpyt to the Eiffel Tower in Paris). And, as far as I can recall, the biggest hotel in the world can also be found in Las Vegas (MGM Grand Hotel). :)

local: di ko pa napupuntahan boracay. baguio na lang. ok din pala dumaguete, bais city(dolphins) clear water din.

dantedawg: where exactly is bais city? and yes, i have to agree that chicago is beautiful - gotta go up the sears tower and see the city's architecture!

one of my local favorites is sagada - it's a place 6-8 hours away from baguio. the weather is great, everything's cheap and great caves!

ilocos is also fine but then you have to go there during the cooler months of the year kung ayaw mong kumain ng halu-halo morning, noon and night!

orano. 30 mins away from dumaguete. ok don.
pero walang makikita, white sand beach lang, dolphins, whales. tapos sarap ng food. :)

I agree with Agent007, Las Vegas is unbelievable. It's such a tourist trap, and it's unapologetic about it being so. Nakakalula ang place especially at night, and you can walk down the main avenues where the casinos are lined and get dazzled by everything around you. Ibang-iba talaga sa Pilipinas...total culture shock!

As for local destinations, I love Baguio. I don't know why, I just do.

Foreign: Orlando. Just like Vegas, it's a tourist trap, but for a thrill ride enthusiast like me, it's heaven.

i love bais and camiguin!
both places are developed enough for city-dwellers,but they've maintained their charms by not being too commercialized.

madami. pero you asked for one local destination and another international location.

my choices:

boracay. white sand, blue waters, the sun... the people and the nightlife. the best spot on this world.

san franciso. people say that mas masaya daw sa new york, pero di pa ko napupunta dun e...

I could say standing in the middle of Times Square made me really realize how much diversed the culture of the United States is. As they say, New York is the meltin pot of the world! :p

local:

cebu, tagaytay, laguna de bay, bohol, iloilo, bacolod.

international:

tokyo (high tech, fast pace, it has everything money can buy),
kyoto (amazing culture, for all there faults, the japanese really have a great culture!), perth, australia (malinis, a relaxed city, great bars, a few miles from the city are several vineyards, this is where THE rose lacson hancock built her palace of love. filipinas are notorious! ;))
fremantle, australia (a small but endearing port city in southwest australia with great bars, good food - the seafood was oh so delicious, plus they have a lot of bookstores, a nude beach, and european-style inns)
georgetown, penang island in malaysia (what was amazing in this city is the fact that 3 races (malay, chinese, and indian) live in harmony but separate from each other. imagine sa malls, they would have 3 separate languages (english, chinese and malay) for announcements! the food was great, too. and the old chinese houses were well preserved.)

makiling: There are many many places to go to in the Philippines. Are you particularly interested in tourist spots, or actual events? Here are some of my suggestions:

For Day Trips
1. Corregidor- For a historical-romantic day trip, I recommend this. There are daily trips to Corregidor that leave at around 7am from the CCP (Cultural Center) pier and get back by sunset to view the magnificent sunset at Manila Bay.
2. Lucban, Quezon- The Pahiyas Festival is a major event to attend!! The festival was even featured on Travellers of the Travel/Discovery network. This happens every May 11, and the place absolutely turns colorful, festive and soooperfun!! :)
3. Pagsanjan, Laguna- Shooting the rapids can be a lot of fun, but if you're expecting a lot... it CAN ALSO be disappointing, since you're expected to shell out about P700 per person. The best time of year to visit the place is on October, when the waters are clear and almost pristine. Summer isn't the best time, actually, and during the rainy season is the worst-- the waters are totally murky.
4. Taal, Batangas- This is actually an historic sight that most people don't venture into, because they're content with the Tagaytay view of the lake. But going down farther has its many charming sights and sounds. :)
5. Many more... you can visit www.lakbay.net.ph (http://www.lakbay.net.ph) for more travel info on Philippine sights.

For Beaches
1. Boracay- However that some people claim this beach to be too cramped with holiday beachers or whatever, I still think Boracay is the beach to be! The long stretch of white sand, Pooka Beach, the sand bars, the food, the merchandise, the sun, the people, the mood, aahh! Tropical paradise!
2. Palawan- This is perhaps the cleanest, most-well preserved island in the entire Philippines. I love the fact that the people are all very conscious of wildlife, flora and marine preservation. Everyone's so hospitable. And the Vietnamese French bread tastes absolutely heavenly (for a really low P2)! I haven't been to the posh beach resorts in Amanpulo, but I hear they're terrific.
3. Bantayan Island, Cebu- While most people only know of Cebu's Mactan beaches, what they don't know is that the beaches up north are much better. Bantayan Island has Boracay-like sand, although the place isn't as developed. There's an annual event called Jamaican Nights (around April or May, i believe), though, where beach bums from everywhere totally have fun!
4. Camiguin Island- Actually, a separate islet called White Island is the main beach attraction at Camiguin. This is the ultimate place for sun-stoking!
Also, Camiguin is known for its lanzones... yummy! Catch their lanzones festival every October (I believe).
5. Others- There are so many other beach places in the Philippines such as Puerto Galera (south of Luzon), Pagudpud (north of Luzon), Davao, CDO, and others... but I won't itemize na.

For Nature/Adventure/Historical Trips
1. Sagada- The Ultimate Adventure! Fall in love with Sagada's beauty and quaintness... a must for friendship bonding! There are sooo many things to do in Sagada, and feasting your eyes on its majesty is just one of them. You can go spelunking inside the Sumaging Cave, also called 'The Big Cave', where you spend about 45 mins to 2 hrs of cave adventure! You might mind the ickiness of going down its mouth at first, but revel in the wonder of a cave's interior!
2. Vigan- Beautiful! Walk along the cobbled steps and feel Maria Clara-like... :) No vehicles are allowed to drive on the cobblestones as a way of preserving the steps.
3. Palawan- Well, not only is Palawan a beachy place, it's also rich in nature resources and beautiful sights. Oh, and don't miss a couple of their unique restaurants as well: Ka Lui and Badjao Seafood Restaurant.
4. Banaue Rice Terraces- Ooh lovely! I really appreciate such wonderful and majestic sights as the rice terraces, so it was truly a remarkable experience for me that I've visited Banaue thrice since I first went there in 1995. Another thing to enjoy is inn-hunting. :) My friends and I loved looking for the perfect, cozy inn. We found exactly that at Cozy Nook inn, for only P100 per person, per night! :)

I would love to share some more tourist spots with you, makiling, but unfortunately I have to go... Please don't hesitate to ask questions, though, if there's anything you'd like to know. I'm very enthusiastic about travel and about giving information to people who show interest in it too. :)

Bon voyage!

Especially in the winter! It's so pretty with the snow. In fact, while snowmobiling, I found this really postcard-pretty spot with a tree ... i walked up to it through knee-deep snow drifts and lodged a love letter (sent to me by my lover) between its forked trunk. A way of leaving something special behind.

Two very good friends of mine might visit the Philippines in December and, of course, I want to show them the best that our country has to offer.

I have been living in London for almost 3 years now, so I have been out of touch with what the "in" places to visit are in Pinas.

So.... any ideas?

Anything, really.

We will definitely be in Manila for about 3 days, and spend 7 days travelling around.

Here are my ideas:
1. Manila nightlife
2. Tagaytay (with lunch at Sonia's Garden)
3. Short trip to Baguio
4. Boracay (or Bohol - as I've been hearing some good stuff about it these days...)

Any other suggestions?

2. Tagaytay Taal Vista Hotel

riquita: barring bad weather, bohol is definitely a good idea! try this place:

http://www.panglaoisland.com/

also tagaytay highlands, if you know someone who's a member, and stay overnight sa lodge dun.

in manila, nothing much worth seeing except intramuros and the famous manila sunset. the boardwalk is clean and well-lit now, manila's slowly being restored to its former beauty :)

if your friends are ok with roughing it, try going to the banawe rice terraces. that's something other countries definitely don't have!

Here's my list ( but I've never been to most of them):

Palawan - Probably El nido. Even Tia Carrere said she is the biggest proponent of El nido. Also you may wanna try amanpulo. I 've heard it's one of the best beaches in Asia. :)
Boracay - It's not anymore the best beach here. But it's worth visiting. The nightlife there is good.
Baguio City
Bicol - Hmmm. There's the majestic Mayon Volcano, whale shark watching......
Subic
Tagaytay

or you can go to bohol. what we did kasi last may, we went to bohol coming from cebu. we took a ferry to tagbilaran (a 5-hr trip which costs less than P400, roundtrip). at the pier in bohol, there are people offering city tour. i costs around P1000. we were 6 so it's less than P200 each. the tour will take you to the chocolate hills, loboc river, tarsier conservation thingy (i forgot the term... darn). then after the tour they drove us to panglao island :) cheap, indeed.

is that magazine available in national bookstore? i haven't heard of it yet nor have i seen a copy, but it sounds very interesting! is it a monthly publication?

it's available in national bookstore for only P130. it's not the usual magazine size but it's packed with useful info (they even have CCP's calendar of events as well as schedule of philippine festivals) :) and btw, it's published quarterly. visit their site: www.colorsphilippines.com

Bohol - so far of all the places ive been in the country...i must say this is the best...more than the chocolate hills...seeing the tarsier made a difference and riding the boat in loboc river while we're taking our lunch...really one of a kind...and there beach...the best as compared to cebu...its also nice in cebu...but its just like im in manila

Quezon - i love the peole...very warm...and nice places to go to...like there old churches and resorts....

Callao Cave in Cagayan - but if you'll go here be sure that you'll get to see the bats...coz it's what i've appreciate there...the first time i went there...i did not enjoy that much as to when i came back and saw the bats came out from the cave bcoz its 6pm already and they will look for food and you will see them go back in the cave if its 6am...

Bicol - nice place...the volcano is worth seeing...nice beach also but nothing compared with Bohol...but if there's one thing i could nver 4get of Bicol...yummy fuds...most of them cooked with coconut milk and chilis....uhmm...that is if you like it hot...

Vigan - very historic...we went here after going to pagudpud...were went first to pagudpud and as we were going home to manila...we had to stop to vigan for one night to enjoy the place...the lodges there are cheep...and after going to vigan...we had a stop over to hundred island...then went back to manila...
