This game is for the fanatics! Not a social event. Ateneans will defintiely be outnumbered. They are distracted by the Ateneo-La Salle game. However the true blue Ateneo fanatics will defend Loyola from the invading Bedans.

NCAA fanatics, the game is free. Time to see if the Red Lions is indeed a force in the coming NCAA wars.

This game is also for the glory of the NCAA...hehehe...UAAP..hehehe..The Letran led group demolished the UAAP squad. Will this be another blow to the UAAP ego?

Watch the games.

The game between Ateneo and San Beda last Saturday was an exhilarating experience and it has to be the most memorable game I have witnessed, aside from the Ateneo-San Beda tussle two years ago in the eliminations of the Champions’ League. It gave me a glimpse of how it was in the past when these two schools were at it, tooth and nail.

Despite the loss of our beloved Red Lions, I was still satisfied because I was focused more on the event of the game because it brought back fond memories to the alumni. Correct me if I’m wrong but was Bonnie Carbonnell, the coach who steered the Red Lions to the last two championships, at the bench of San Beda? I think nostalgia hit him pretty well. Both schools’ crowd really respected each other and less jeers were heard. Ateneo was cheering for team all the way, likewise San Beda.

The game yesterday showed the two schools’ animo in basketball competitions. The Ateneans and Bedans, as well as non-Ateneans and non-Bedans alike, showed what school spirit is all about. On one hand, though the Ateneans were evidently outnumbered, one could hear the loud voices in their cheers, especially in their “Go! Ateneo!” and “Get that ball” cheers. The former is my fave among their cheer lineup followed by the “Blue Eagle Spelling.” On the other hand, some Bedans were quite passive in cheering for the Red Lions (or counter-cheering Ateneo for that matter) but many still cheered all the way. There were also some alumni who helped the cheerleaders lead the crowd. To my dismay, the Indian Yell is memorized by only a handful of Bedans. This should not be the case, right? It should serve as a wake up call for the Bedans. The Ateneans were really overzealous in supporting their Blue Eagles and that’s what I’m envious of. But it’s not about negativisms that I’m after here. All in all, both teams showed class, especially in the postgame, where while the Ateneans were singing their school hymn (Hail Mary Song right?), the Bedans stood firm and quiet, and observed the Ateneans. Afterwards, the Bedans applauded the Ateneans. During our turn, they did the same respect. In fact, when we were singing the Bedan Hymn, applause from the blue side came and it made me quiver in respect for Ateneo. No wonder many claim the school has the best crowd and not their “rivals” from Taft.

The halftime performance of San Beda could’ve been better if the whole San Beda crowd knows the lyrics of the Indian Yell. We have the numbers but we were outcheered, through and through, although I have to admit, Bedans did not wither nor get dismayed even if Ateneo was leading by what seemed to be an insurmountable lead by halftime. Still, the Bedans never gave up and that’s what I like about the community of San Beda. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose as long as we support our school, through and through. And this was made evident in that game.

To the Ateneans, good game, good fight, thank you, and we’ll see you all again. GO ATENEO!

To the Bedans, may this be another learning experience for us. We should continue to be humble and let us learn from our blue counterparts. They may be in a different league but they showed and gave the respect we needed. ANIMO SAN BEDA!

When is the next game? The Ateneo fanatics are actually proposing a yearly Ateneo-San Beda dual meet, just like the old Zamora cup.

Why not a Pangilinan Cup in honor the Bedan-Atenean (or Atenean-Bedan) patron of the Red Lions and the Blue Eagles?

P.S.

I told you some guys are indeed pissed off with this dual meet. Kudos to the Bedans and Ateneans. The game last Saturday was a showcase of ferocious school spirit, magnanimity in victory and gracious in defeat. Keep the mutual respect alive.

More power to you guys!

Any idea why we did not see any corporate promotion for this game.

I'm surprised this was never hyped nor given "commercial" advertisements.

Nevertheless, I heard the game was a success in terms of rekindling the love affair between the two schools. Both schools can do without the "hate" portion. They who are green with envy deserve that one. :D

No corporate sponsors?

Dahil hindi naman naghanap at di yata talaga binalak. At least on this one.

If we draw a timeline from the moment definitive word came out about the series and the Dec 10 first game, that's less than 4 weeks. Not enough time to negotiate for anything with possible corporate sponsors. Even then, coming at year end, wala nang pera ang kung sino mang interesado corporation. Di na kakayanin ng mga budget allocation nila yan.

But with the way the first game way played and the enthusiastic feedback from the Ateneans who were there, who knows what awaits the second game come January 2006...
