Next year, it seems that the NCAA will have a new format for their league. They will have four groups or four divisions which will cover the entire country. In Metro Manila alone, they will have two groups of eight schools each. A good number of FMC participants will form the new division in Metro Manila.
The other groups are VIS-MIN and Northern Luzon. The top two teams of their respective divisions will advance to the national finals.

Saw the above at atenista.net. May iba pa bang nakakaalam tungkol dito?

Mr. Anthony Servino, may narinig na po ba kayo tungkol dito ?

I suppose the current NCAA will be one of 2 Metro Manila groups. Base on the last FMC Div2, if Lyceum and Arellano will be part of the other MM group, maganda rin ang labanan dito.

I hope someone can give some sort of corroborating info on this "expanded NCAA".

Haven't heard about this, though this seems to be a very good idea FINALLY.

College basketball should not be concentrated mainly amongst Metro Manila schools but also in other parts of the archipelago as well, most specially in the Visayas and Mindanao regions where a rich crop of raw talents abound.

If you will notice in some NCAA threads, this kind of format has been wanting. The Champions league is a very good barometer but not enough as some schools and players don't seem to take it seriously.

With the idea already in the planning stage which hopefully materializes very soon, now we will see who really is the King of College Basketball in RP. *okay*

This Could Be The Biggest Thing To Happen In Philippine Basketball If It Is True.

He Champions League Is Good, Kaya Lang Parang Bitin. And Not Everybody Is Represented Very Limited Ang Participation Ng Schools From The North.

Full Coverage Kaya Ito ? Kasi We All Remember Waht Happened To M.b.a. Right ? It Had The Better Concept Than The Moribound P.b.a. But They Didnt Have The Logistics. Sana Maraming Tumulong. To Make This Happen.

And Sana They Impose Stricter Measures As Far As Player Recruitment Is Concerned. To Level The Playing Field So To Speak. Imagine This, A Talented Player From Let Say Cebu, Will Need Not Go To An N.c.r. Based School To Showcase His Skills. He Could Stay Right Home And Be A Local Hero.

I Hope This Happens, Dahil Tama Si Renvic, Para Magka Alaman Na ?

One Question, Paano Kaya Ang La Salle, Will They Be Allowed To Join Amidst All The Controversies ?

I don't thnk so!!! Kung basketball *** agn pag uusapan, IMO, DLSU ang pinaka malakas!!! Ewan ko *** in this coming season.. Wala na si Coach Franz... Pero sana mag karoon n *** ng isang league na mag lalaban laban lahat ng college and Univ. sa buong bansa!!! Db mas cool yan!!! And gawing Main League in the future!!!!

What do u think?!?

RipCurl_9 - Sad to say hindi na pinakamalakas ang DLSU this year dahil sa ineligibility cases ng 2 players sa roster tapos banned pa sila for 2 seasons sa UAAP. ;)

I agree, this would help other schools gain exposure and help keep their players. The only question in my mind right now is how can studio 23 play games from four different groups or divisions. :D

Hey bro, is it really true that DLSU is already banned in the UAAP? whats their plan now? They will just compete in other competitions? Hindi na ako updated ah... :(

NCAA lawn tennis

Pero wala pang decision ang UAAP board so just wait for the results. Malamang suspension ang pinaka-mababang parusa pero di natin alam kung ilan ang dinagdag na sentensya. ;)

Management Committee bats for classification of schools
by Nicanor Joseph Nepomuceno

The Management Committee (ManCom) led by Fr. Victor Calvo, O.P. proposed an amendment to the constitution and bylaws of the oldest collegiate league in the country, the National Collegiate Athletic Asso-ciation (NCAA).

The ManCom is pushing the creation of division schools similar to the NCAA in the United States of America (USA). In this way, the league could entertain new schools that are applying in the NCAA like Centro Escolar University and Emilio Aguinaldo College .

There are certain rules and provisions in the NCAA-USA that the ManCom might adopt. Some of the factors in classifying whether the school could land in Division I or II are the number of enrollees in the school, the popularity of the university and the performance of the school in various sports competitions.
NCAA-USA

In the USA, there is confusion and controversy regarding the classification of schools in the league, and it is for the reasons that there are schools which are members of both divisions. The possibility of this situation is not new in the NCAA-USA. A basketball team of a certain school could be considered as a Division I school, but its football team could be in the Division II classification since the basketball team of that school scorches the net day in and day out while the football team of that school can not reach the end zone even just a single game. The same goes with other sports like hockey.

Here are some examples of the confusing classification in the NCAA-USA:
Merrimack is a Division 2 school that plays Division 1 hockey on the Division 1 level. Rensselaer is a Division 3 school that plays Division 1 hockey on the Division 1 level. Connecticut is a Division 1 school that formerly played Division 1 hockey on the Division 3 level. Over a dozen schools play Division 1 hockey but are institutionally classified Division 2 or Division 3. Six Division 1 schools once played at a lower level, but (in name only) field a Division 1 team.

Furthermore, there are some instances wherein the division of the school is reclassified; Division II school could be promoted to Division I as well as Division I school could be moved down to Division II. The reason of reclassifying a member school is if the said university or college did not comply with the standards set for Division I and II.

In adopting the style of NCAA-USA here, it would enable NCAA Philippines to include more teams that could compete with each other. A good way to start this is to invite schools all over the Philippines that are interested to join the NCAA, even University Athletic Asso-ciation of the Philippines (UAAP) member schools to finally unite and create only one collegiate league. Also, member schools of National Capital Region Athletic Association, and schools in Visayas and Mindanao could slowly be accepted and give classification. New members might as well start as Division II schools and if they’ve proven their worth, their status could be elevated to Division I.

The problem here in our country is that, there are many collegiate leagues that operate, NCAA and UAAP being in the forefront of the collegiate league.

Abundant talents in Visayas and Mindanao are rarely seen on television because of lack of exposure. Three-point specialist Elmer Cabahug is a classic example of this dilemma. Coming from University of Visayas, when Cabahug played in the Philippine Basketball Association, a lot of people were shocked.
The proposal of creating a Division II school in the NCAA and accepting new applicants might be a small step for now, but it is definitely a big leap that would open doors for other schools to compete in the NCAA in no time.

I hope someone can give some sort of corroborating info on this "expanded NCAA".
This is very true!

We already have the NCAA-South composed of sister schools of NCAA-Manila schools and other schools in the CaLaBaRZon Area. The league has been going strong for the last seven seasons.

Yes, there are talks for several Metro Manila schools to form an NCAA Division II. Many of these schools have sought membership in the league in years past but the NCAA simply did not have slots to accomodate them. Among the schools strongly pushing for this are Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila and Lyceum of the Philippines. The projected start for this league will be for next school year, 2007-2008.

Finally, during the recent opening of NCAA 82, a delegation from Assumption-Pampanga was invited to attend as they are one several schools being eyed to form the NCAA-North for schools north of Metro Manila. Aside from Pampanga, teams from other provinces in Central Luzon and perhaps as far north as Baguio City will form the league that could start as early as the second semester of the current school year.

i hope that the NCAA would expand from eight to ten or rather twelve in the years to come... just like sa US NCAA, they divided it in two divisions... i think this is how its going to look like...

DIVISION I:

CSJL
MIT
PCU
SBC
JRU
SSC-R
UPHDS
CSB

DIVISION II:

LYCEUM
EAC-MANILA
SBC-RIZAL
ASSUMPTION PAMPANGA
