i've tried both. nakakilang ang tampons eh. i'm forever in the fear na mawala yung string. in that sense, uncomfortable. but physically, parang there's nothing there. hence the fear of losing the string.

but i guess it just needs some getting used to. but for now, pads ako.

I had to learn to use tampons cos I was going to Boracay and I knew I was gonna get my period. My friends told me I better learn to use them. The morning we left for Boracay I got my period! So I used tampons the whole time at the beach. Hassle naman to use pads there kasi! You're going around all the time, it's not like you'll always have a bathroom there...and how do you swim? But that was about the only time I used tampons, I think. Sanayan lang actually, but I'm still more comfortable with napkins. Besides, I can't imagine doing some of my every day activities with tampons...like riding a horse...yikes... http://www.pinoyexchange.com/blush.gif

I use both. I like tampons for its convenience and size (I can even wear it when I go swimming), and napkins for its ease of use and it having practically no risk in developing TSS.

I've thought about using tampons, but like you said, I prefer napkins cause of fear for developing TSS. Are there still any incidence of that happening cause of the usage of tampons? O nag-subside na?

TSS?

Ira

Ada: TSS=Toxic Shock Syndrome

TSS is a very, very rare complication, and it only happens when you wear the tampon much longer than you're supposed to. And even if you keep it on a few hours longer, chances of getting TSS is really small. Depending on its absorbency, each type has a recommended time frame, written on the box. If you wear the tampon only up to the recommended time give or take a couple of hours, you won't get TSS.

I use either Tampax or O.B. tampons. The safest brand (0% association with TSS) would be Pursettes, but it isn't available here. This is followed by O.B., Tampax, and Playtex, in that order. You can get tampons in JNC (basement, Galleria) or in other PX stores. They cost a lot more, though--around PhP300+ a box.

tanong lang....pano kung maputol yung string? :D

Ira

It's practically impossible for the string to detach. It's interwoven along the whole length of the tampon. You'd have to take a pair of scissors and cut it for it to detach.

During my periods, I use tampons on long road trips, with panty shields to be sure. Usually kasi tulog ako the whole time, baka ma-displace ang napkin.

alternate between the two, depending on your activity for the day. tampons are pretty safe as long as you change it regularly. i hate changing in public washrooms so i usually use a tampon AND a napkin at the start of the day, then take out the tampon around lunchtime and let the napkin do the job. it's quick and easy. just make sure you dispose of the tampon properly! :)

Ira

Not if it's inserted correctly.

well i use tampons only if i have to swim or if i'm gonna be wearing tight fitting pants or cycling shorts... i mean pads are just so ... bulky sometimes =) thankx for th etip on where to get them... when i first came here, i couldn't find them anywhere! so next time i went abroad, i bought boxes! :D and tampons have no ummm odor like the pads http://www.pinoyexchange.com/bleh.gif but i admit that i do still use pads for fear of ever getting TSS

Pads. I'd like to try using tampons though. What IS the PROPER way of inserting it anyway?

Napkin.

I'm still a little freaked-out with the tampons. How do you use it? Well, there ARE instructions on the box... :D

i never tried tampons.... hindi ba nakakasira ng virginity? :D

Nah, that's a fallacy. Although inserting a tampon is like the feeling of having sex to some, you don't lose your viginity at all because technically you're not having sex. And having sex usually involves two people. Not a person and an object.
