View Full Version : What "gimmick" would u prefer?

People speng their weekends in different ways now. Before, you would usually see people hanging out in the Fort or in Malate. Now, you can never really tell...

What's your gimmick like? Where do you prefer going? Why there? :)

Hi ChiQui! What's my weekend gimmick like, hmmm? When I was in college I used to bar hop with my classmates. Well now, I don't go out as often but if I do, I normally hang out around Malate because the place has a different character, vibrant and somewhat enchanting. It's hip and gives you a feeling of charm. What about you? Where do you go out?

Hey there Angelo...

I used to love going to Makati because of the many discos to go there. But ever since the year started I now prefer going to friends' houses na lang. It's a lot more fun, you can spend more time with your friends and not to mention, definitely cheaper! :)

Have you tried going to a videoke with friends? It's a riot!!

Aragorn

ChiQui: You're definitely right with the videoke!!! It's such a cool experience...the more the merrier!

Oh boy, there are a lot of "gimmicks" to go out on...

There's the "bowling" gimmick: hang out at any bowling alley (Megamall, or even Cosmic Bowling at Filinvest Alabang, w/c I recommend!) with some friends, then watch each other try to hit the pins! It makes for a lot of boo-boos and even more fun. Then, eat dinner, and maybe hang out at Starbucks.

Of course, as you said, there's the cheaper alternative, without sacrificing any of the fun: the "tambay gimmick". You can all get together, have a barbeque or something at a friend's house, have a few drinks, make kuwento. Or you can order pizza and watch some movies. Tipid pa!

Sometimes, nakakatamad nang pumunta ng Malate or Makati, especially for us here in the south...traffic, sobra!

But any gimmick would be great, for as long as there's great conversation with friends, right?

One of the best gimmicks I've ever had involved just me and myself. I took a day off from work and drove to Old Manila. Armed with a bottle of pepper spray (just to be sure), I then walked around Intramuros. You know, looked around the walls and took peeks inside Fort Santiago and all that. It's gorgeous, especially at night. There's a path of footsteps that you can follow which are supposed to represent Rizal's walk from his cell to Luneta where he was shot.
Take a look at the Museum, and see all the old cars of the former Presidents. Rizal's suits. All that history! Instead of looking for the new stuff, why not visit the really old places? It'll put things in perspective, and it's FREE. Try it!

Hey ChiQui,

Yeah, I tried going to videoke bars like Music 21 and IO, it's really fun! I went there
about five or six months ago with my friends. Although I don't sing pretty well, it does exercise my vocal chords :)

pity me people, but i am not really into gimmicks...i go to malls, hangout with friends at school, watch movies, shop...thats basically it...although i want to, i don't go to bars, to clubs, to discos, etc...i dont know how, i dont know where, and i dont know any person whom i can hangout with in those places...i think it has something to do with the "circle of friends"...my friends kasi have very strict parents...and so are mine...

Mr. Aragorn..
Along with that "bowling" gimmick comes the "billiards" gimmick. Heheheheh... I'm currently into billiards kse.. even if I'm not good at it.

Mister Dean...
Thanks for you suggestion! I'll give it a try sometime!

Another gimmick suggestion would be "poker night" with friends. Just go to a friend's house, set up a table, and play the night away with poker, pusoy dos, pusoy. You may or may not gamble any money but the more that that's at stake, the better.. oh and don't forget the chips and the drinks!! :)

the best gimmicks i enjoy the most are those that are very far away from smokers and dark lights.. and enclosed spaces...
so i usually goto the provinces.. batangas, mindoro (puerto galera), tagaytay...etc etc) sarap ng fresh air parang ayaw mo nang umalis doon.. sighs..

and most of all romantic pa.....

ayeee
Mar 14, 2000, 11:40 AM
i would prefer ofcourse... billiards
syempre disco if possible nightly sana

What do you do when you go out of town? Do you go with your friends or with your family?

ChiQui

i usually go with my friends kasi family ko nasa province na.. madalas we just hang out, relax and enjoy the surroundings.. kasi iba yung feeling nung calm yung paligid and people are not rushing sarap ng dating.
pero madalas kasama ko si gf we just sit there and relax.... pag sa beach naman swim then watch the tides hanggang magdilim... ganga ng beach habang dumidilim... :)

ChiQui

Videoke! Coz I love singing. ;) But, the usual gimmick: watch a movie, dine, and have coffee. Sometimes we go to bars and discos...and out-of-town (overnight to 4-day) trips.

abraqkadabra: Romantiko ka pala! ;)

For me, I prefer out of town gimiks. Kakasawa na kasi minsan sa Fort, Makati and Malate. I also like the idea of "tambay gimik" kasi it's cheaper and you'll have more time to talk and bond with your friends.
I also agree with Aragorn --- nakakatamad pumunta sa Makati and Malate because of traffic!!! Im from the south kasi.
Pahabol: Hi Chiqui!!! Musta? :)

It's better to go drinking at a friend's house so you can just sleep over kung lasheng na kayo..

ayan na...I'm back!!!

I like going on gimiks...kaya lang, my parents don't allow me to go out that much...before I usually had a hard time getting them to allow me to go out with my friends. Hanggang ngayon pa rin naman ganun eh...pero it depends on who I'm with and where I'm going.

If she knows the grp of people I'm with, it's usually ok...but it depends pa on where we're going...what I usually do is I don't really tell her where I'm going...minsan nga lang hassle...

It's only now that they've learned to kind of like let go..pero nde pa rin eh...I can go home late now...depending on the reason...I usually try to placate them by giving them plausible reasons...so..ok lang...

sorry off tangent ang sagot ko...

Anyway, my usual gimik is hanging out with my friends at a friend's house or at the mall. My friends and I don't go out that much what with our thesis and the gazillion projects that we have..sabay sabay na nga sila naloloka na kami! Pero when we do go out, like this year lang, we went to some bar and disco and spent most of the night and part of the morning at those places and after which we went to the breakwaters (ccp) tapos we stayed there and bonded 'til 5 a.m.
un na *** pinaka-oa naming gimik kase we don't usually do stuff like that. pero when we did that...I found na I liked it...the thing is, I really don't have the time to spare and besides, I have my parents to think about. I can talk to my parents though...so that's not too much of a problem, ang problem ko is available time!

Like what someone said here, it's actually great if u just stay at a friends house and do stuff together 'cause what my friends and I do most of the time is that we do bonding stuff. We'd ask each other questions and yun, share insights. It's really kewl...lalo na at night...kaya lang it's pretty scary especially if you have friends like mine who usually think of getting some of us drunk para that someone would spill everything! :)

I'm surprised no one suggested it yet. Have a few drinks and an engaging conversation in Sunken Garden. If you pause for a few moments, you can also observe couples kissing and stuff ;-) It's also FREE!

Mister Dean,

Read that Intramuros post yesterday. On an impulse I did go there. You will never have an idea how good a time I had. Thanks for the suggestion ;-)

Here's to more creative gimmicks...

I am actually getting sick of the party scene here in Manila. I used to hang out in Malate a lot and I still do but out of town parties is what I wanna get into. Throwing rave parties in islands outside Metro Manila is something that the party promoters need to get into.

i think that people go to those gimik places just to show off.. those places are not for fun but for showing who you are and showing that you're "in." it is much better to go to places like subic or tagaytay and spend days there to relax and spend your money in a more practical way.. mas enjoy and mas sulit!

personally, weekend nights id rather spend them with my barkada at someones house. wed go swimming there, or watch a movie, or pig out or just talk until the wee hours of the morning. its cheaper, more accessible, you get front seats and you dont have to share with lots of people and you dont have to worry about bad service, no space, stuff like that...
if we do go out, we just go somewhere to eat, or the mall. we dont go to bars and discos that much coz its too crowded and too much of a hassle.

the best gimmick, hmmm, it would be a chit-chat with a long lost friend at a coffee shop.

well, up here in NYC, i don't party as much. My friends and I just go to some bar in Soho or Mepa and we just chill...we drink a little bellini and smoke a lot..then that's about it. But whenever i'm in Manila, i'm out friday and saturday nights...i guess, it's more fun because it's cheaper(relative to the states) and i'm with my old barkada. Though, i have to admit, manila's party scene is way too small and boring...it gets very redundant after 2 months of going out constantly. The best times i've had out partying are usually spent with friends who are open minded and just very 'koboy'. Monkeying around town and just laughing our heads off are the funnest times no matter where you are.

Bawal mabaduyan ok?! Ang favorite ko talaga, mag-lakad lang somewhere windy while having a hell of a witty and insightful conversation. I swear, no other gimmick I've had compares to that.

Anyone share my view?

How about Tagaytay near sundown? That must be really good for a couple of topics.

Mister Dean: Read your suggestion about old Manila just now- very nice...I'll make it a point to try it real soon.

Ang Favorite gimik ko- walking around at night with friend(s) syempre may bitbit na good conversations. You know, catching up on each others life and bonding to the max. Syempre prefer ko sa province pero I have so very little opportunity to leave town. Sawa na ko sa mga bars, discos and cafes,(must be the age...), pero paminsan minsan why not db?

I don't like gimmicks that include drinking/clubbing. Kaya tuwing pupunta sa Fort ang mga kaibigan ko, understood na pass ako. Tutal, pamboboys lang naman ang inaatupag nila dun, eh. Dinner, coffee... basta kain, ok na 'ko. Pero I'm so boring that I prefer to just hang out at my house. :bungi:
