I enjoy going to 10 Years After Ortigas since I get to see familiar faces and the sounds are somewhat predictable. The menu (food and drinks) could be more extensive but so far, it is ok.
Insomnia is okay if you are in a racy mood and just out to hang out.
Ratsky's Malate is a nice place to just enjoy some live music. However, the beams do get in the way. Better be early. Annapolis Live is too functional... lacks design. So is Virgin Cafe.
There is this upcoming event on Dec 11 in Glorietta.. Gatecrasher.. should be fun!!
I like TYA every 10th of the month....booze is only 10 bucks from 9:50-10:10 pm. PhP100 lang solve ka na. There are a lot of nice bars in the QC-Pasig-Malate area, too. I don't like Makati much, the crowd's too pretentious, especially the high school kids.

i prefer the loud clubs of malate... the verve room for hard rock & roll. gotham for some pop rock. commonground and the lobby for techno beats. suburbia, only when side a is playing. insomnia for hangning out. cafe breton for cozy relaxations. pepe & pilar for light meals.
... too bad i heard that agb's is now closed. that's one cool place to party.

I like going to Sambos to mingle around and get those cheap beers, then maybe Venezia (mingle din but with aircon :) ) or Spoon in Alabang para long trip naman.. I didn't really like Orange that much coz it's to "concealed", kung nagbrown-out don, freak out na! Kayong mga PaRtY ppl, where do you usually venture pag sabado nite?

Has anybody been to a "foam party"?
What happens in a "foam party" and what is actually a "foam party"? Heard of it but am not sure whether I understood it correctly.

If you notice nowadays, bars and clubs are fast to lose their crowd, parang cell fone lang yan e, very trendy and as with all trends, gets faded soon. I remember I could barely go to the second flr of Travessia at 1am coz ang daming tao! ngayon, it's closed na! but I can't really understand what happened to FORT! I mean, parking is definitely not a problem there! Sawa lang *****... I think now it's Porch that's a G spot

Let's make a survey of recent nightspots turned hotspots for the teenagers, the yuppies and the not-so-young genre. Post the name of your bar that you frequent and tell us what's good in this bar. And you can post issues regarding these bars and clubs too! Peace! :smokin:

in no particular order:
. Il Ponticello - azzuri, anyone?
. Underground
. Rockwell - you can't go wrong, the place has that Paris-sidewalks feel, plenty of choices for plenty of palates
. Ponana, Libis- the new Venezia? Looks to me as though the original crowd moved across the city. Same faces, same music, same fun!

ROCKWELL- Try Burgoo!(3rd floor of Powerplant) or Ubar and any of the bars outside. For me, it's the coolest!

It's sad to know that a lot of bars have closed too like Stars, Sambo's and Kemistry. These places were great havens for relaxing and unwinding party music. Heaven save us from the conyos! The scene has a new face in the bars you just mentioned. You guys tried Twilos? I tried Ponana but I was too drunk to appreciate it, I'll try to be sober the next time I go there. Oh yeah, please do try Porch bar too in Makati. Please share some more views may they be bad or good. :smokin:

I live in pasay and makati and malate have been my favorite hang-outs talaga but it's good to know that you guys in the north have place you can say your own and that the scene has shifted from the old places to libis because some nightspots closed down and they knew libis would entice dragsters and north people. Sadly though, Alabang ain't what I expected it to be, but they still have great places too. Oh yeah, a friend of mine had a short stint as a manager in Spincrazy but he never told me about the place itself. Do try to find more nightspots in makati, coz theres more to see than 78orange, venezia, or the other conyo havens. :smokin:

no kidding! i was there too, got there around 1am, and the line was long!!! Gosh they made us look like school boys and girls standing obediently in line. But the wait was worth it! Hey! I was there too! Sayang hindi tayo nagkakilala! I spend my nights there kasi I tried q.c. talaga but I can't keep myself waiting in line! Porch has a more relaxed atmosphere but the space was really designed to cramp the party people inside. If it got too big, you might just call it a club and not a bar. Hope you enjoyed yourself there and I invite the rest of you pexers here to join us there! Just because Libis is the next best thing, it doesn't mean the scene is just there! :smokin:

BTW, DJ Patch, a former DJ of Verve, Kemistry, Joy and the late ABG's spins in Porch every friday night. He played last saturday at Il Ponticello too! He's a good friend of mine and I'm inviting you all to come and listen to the best of vocal and disco house that he plays. He can even play the oldies and deep house too! :walkman2: :smokin:

WTF!?!?!? there's a new club in manila called Twilo?!?!!? talk about originality...first came Moomba, now Twilo? what will they think of next?? Halcyon or Spa or heck, Cafeteria? all of them are New York City clubs. In my opinion, they should just have copied the concept..but the name? talk about intellectual copyrights infringement. what a rip off!?!?!?!?!?!?!? dyan magaling ang pinoy, sa pagiging manggagaya!
anyways, i've heard so much about Ponana and Basement. hope it's cool.

i know exactly what you mean, i've been in those NYC clubs too. Anyway The Basement is okay, you can just sit, smoke and drink as you please for any length of time and the drinks aren't that steep. The music's okay but there's no dancing in there. I prefer its neighbor, Orange ;p
Ponana on the other hand is one of my must-be-there's. Too bad the place gets too crowded beginning eleven pm. Small price to pay...

I did enjoy myself, Porch is the perfect bar. My friends and i just begun going there, but we've definitely taken a spot for it. We were so tired of bumping elbows with people over at Ponana! If you were people-watching, i was wearing a red halter and a denim miniskirt. We created a fuss over at the bar , kakahiya!! Nakitext pa kami from a guy we'd just met because i was low in battery.. talk about bloopers!!
My friends and i have already made plans to be there next Sat.
Hey party people, let's round up at Porch!!

Good Old Malate. I love the crowd there, none of those pretentious kids hanging around. Wide variety of bars & restaurants. I normally hit the Orosa area, its a lot more quiet and cozy than Nakpil (except for JOY)
Batavia - love their atis cheesecake
Cafe Breton - a classic... need i say more?
Raj - if you want to try something new (exotic)
Garlic Rose - delicious food, prices aren't cheap but not sky high either
Pepe & Pilar - i used to hang out here a lot on weekdays, good place to just talk & drink... they even serve food i loved as a kid
JOY - if you don't mind being around gay people, its fun :)
Luna - yummy pasta prices are like garlic rose's
... its the perfect place for a great dinner (don't forget the red wine!) and excellent dessert. good date place.

Hi ppl...JoshEvans here...this is my first post for this site and i do appreciate that it has threads about nightlife and also, its nice to see ppl talk about the scene...to give u an idea, unfortunately, a lot of bars have already closed around makati and with regards to Venezia, its a good thing we still have some loyal visitors around as well as the regulars to keep us up on the scene...a year ago, we used to see the place fullhouse already at about 11pm..well up to now, we have managed to keep it that way...the difference is that peeps are pouring in late like around 1 am so the party just starts up at those times and thank god we still do manage to put the party ppl in place until around 5 am...as posted by Chesca....maybe yes maybe not...I guess Ponana and Venezia have two different crowds since ive heard from other club DJs who have visited the place say that they play trance and hardhouse stuffs during primetime hours, which is entirely different from Venezia's style of music BUT i havent been gone really to the place to actually know what their DJs play for the crowd...i believe we both have different styles when it comes to music since we both play different genres if thats the case. The stuffs that we bring in to you folks, MINUS the cheesy traxx that we play (mainstream dance and commercial traxx just to make those ppl stay), is more of house and garage...this includes all types of house music such as funky, deep, vocal, and so forth and to give you an idea of what i really play, my favorite is actually filtered house...the reason some housemusic followers have remained loyal to Venezia is becoz of the music, new choons that we managed to play for the crowd since we do this not only to entertain everyone but also to educate them about what dance music really is all about...we just make it a point to play some trance and hardhouse for everyone once in a while just to let them know that we have all those stuffs that they request but again...its nice to see places like Ponana and the others sprouting in and out, giving Manila the image that it always portray as the dance music mecca of Asia.

Josh
was at Venezia last Saturday, the crowd was still the same, but you have to admit, most of the regulars such as me do take their time to check out Ponana too, and i can say this because i hang out with the same crowd. I begun going to Vene ever since i begun really clubbing and going out, i've always made it an itinerary because it's got a great crowd and i like it there. When i said "the new Venezia?" i didn't mean to say the old and original one has been replaced, because even i still go there, and Vene despite its age still has its customers because they're loyal indeed /me raises hand.

Hi Chesca! thanx for sticking with us for the past few years and we do thank all those ppl who have been visiting the place even though there are tons of bars sprouting all over the metro and giving Venezia a run for their money...I was actually invited by some friends to visit other places and i really wanted to join them but unfortunately, i dont have the liberty of time. anyway, ill *** sometime when you go back to Venezia...just drop by the booth anytime.

Hi Altar.....yep i was with Patch last weekend and it was really nice spinning with the boys. mad props to that guy since i found out we both have the same style. he told me he spins at porch on fridays and K8 on sats...erwin edralin was also there for the chivas regal party. prior to patch's set, we discussed a lot about upcoming tracks coming out in the market and it's nice that he is up to date on what he plays...guys like him should be given more exposure by event promoters since he's doin well on the scene. ill try to drop by porch if i have time just to visit both of u. u guys are doin fine so just continue with wot ur doin', let's bring the house music scene in manila to higher levels!

Check out FLUTE wine bar and resto in salcedo village, makati across makati sports club along L p Leviste st. beside ralph's. Cool place, although its frequented by an older crowd and a lot of expats, it still holds a good ambiance for you to hang out and talk without having to order the mandatory coffee. The food's pricey but really good. Beer is cheap too. Music varies from chill-out, trip-hop, deep house, garage and discohouse. Stuff to groove to. So do drop by.

Thanks Josh! We all have the same tastes when it comes to House Music and I do believe that we can take it to a higher level if we make more people aware of what we spin and we keep ourselves updated on what's hot. Patch has been helping me a lot in compilations. I'm just a beginner but I have been watching guys like you and patch for some time and observing what kind of music to play and I believe that house is the best among the rest because it is where it all began when it was still underground in the u.s. Hope you can share more knowledge with apprentices like me. :smokin:
Keep the House pumping dude!

was at Porch last night, not too many people which suited me just fine after a few hot and sticky hours at Wherelse?. Who among you went out? I'm still nursing last night's hangover, i haven't touched food or water ever since i hit the bed this early morning.
Anyway, who's up for an eb? I wouldn't mind mingling with party people like myself, and perhaps downing a few beers in your company. Wherever, whenever. Who's up for it?

BadGirl When JOY first opened, wala pang bouncers. They only started putting them when people started bar hopping & brining drinks from outside. They started charging Php 150 or 200 for entrance and you get a drink or two (Insomnia also did this that same time). I'm not sure now if they still charge for entrance, I havn't been in touch with my gay friends for some time na kasi.

Majority of them will be coming from Manila area (including myself) so we decided to have our reunion in Malate, besides it would be time consuming to have it held in Mkti. due to heavy traffic espacially fridays.
Well, our ages range from late 20's to mid 30's though we dont mind spending our reunion in yuppy's place. Its been more than 7 years since we last saw each other (sabik sa chicka) so i think loud music wont be appropriate for the occassion. We simply want a place to dine, drink, chat and enjoy the music (not so loud). :)

Hmmm....malate would really be my choice. Since the scene has shifted to a few places in Makati and North in Libis, Q.C., malate would indeed suit your group's demand for a bigger venue, ambience and music that's not so loud in the first place. Try going there and scout the places early para makita mo for yourself kung ok sa group niyo. I'll ask other people since I'm a Makati barfly. :smokin:
But do try Basement in Makati Ave. :smokin:

How was everybody's weekend? Despite the rain i grabbed my friends and went for WASABI, the place just keeps luring me in, i have no hold against sushi and male models in one place!! After that we were supposed to do the rounds, check out the crowd at bars and clubs but ended up getting drunk at a friend's place. We were so drunk we went pool-hopping. I couldn't help it!! I eyed the olympic pool next door and just had temporary brain-imbalance. The neighbors were out, of course. Imagine seven miniskirt-clad girls climbing walls in their heels, make a rush to the pool and get even more drunk while smoking ... well.. smokin'!! We were trashed. We even got stuck behind, couldn't climb the wall back anymore.. hahaha. We had to call for help from other ( sober ) friends, who brought a ladder. Boy what a Saturday night!! :D

The prices are realtively expensive, but the food is worth every penny. My only problem with the place is the poor ventilation, it really gets into your eyes.

Beer is *cheap*... P25 on local beers -- dunno how long that'll last, though.
I was there during opening night when they had the turntablish QBert over. That was a quite a party. Haven't been back since, so I can't really say much... Hmmn, maybe I should go there tonight...

I was suppose to go to the opening night of Culture Club last saturday but something came up and was unable to :(
So how do you rate it? Is it better than Ponana? Where in libis is it located anyway??

A lot of bars have been sprouting in Libis lately. I think Culture Club by Groovenation will pave the way to a new year of partying with newer sounds. Let's just hope that they continue to diversify the tastes in music.

Ok, I was there last night (it was a really slow night throughout the Metro).
Surprisingly, the Libis wasn't even that traff*cked up.
Culture Club is located right opposite KFC (beside Krocodile Grill) and Hot Shots burgers. Hot Shots burgers rule!
Unfortunately, Culture Club (at 10:30pm) wasn't even half full. So, I decided to head on out of there.
I think Porch on Bautista St. in Makati is more happening. Sorry.
Wala kasing 'draw', eh. I mean, it's a disco place, which just happens to be in Libis. No good food, no fine wines (unlike places like Pravda, Flute, Shiraz, Wasabi, et al). Ok, maybe their draw is P25 on local beers.
If I wanted just another dance / party place (perhaps not at Libis), I might opt for Warehouse in Q.C. (I forget the actual address, heh heh), or the staple, decades-old, Decades (Tomas Morato, hah? Mas wild dun kaysa Amorsolo.)
Oh, and BTW, talked to Toti Dalmacion of Groove Nation / Consortium and he says they only held Consortium there during opening night as a venue. So, I guess it's actually a misconception (I'm guilty of this as well) that they own the place.
Can anybody else confirm / deny?
AltarBoy^_^

Nagsisimula pa lang Culture Club so don't count it out muna. They're just gaining momentum and I think they'll be the next best happenin place kung medyo aware maraming tao sa iba't-ibang tugtog o ambiance ng isang bar o club. :D
Remember Siete Pecados in Westin Hotel? It's now called Club Seven. Maybe you guys should check the scene there. They play house/techno music every friday and r&b/hip-hop every saturday night. :smokin:

Anyway, it was a fairly happening party, very young crowd though (Ooohhh... such luscious 16-year olds -- and the other Toti tells me there are loopholes on statutory rape. ;))

Culture club plays hiphop/rnb o thursdays...i heard but im not sure...i've only been there once, during th eopenning...and i went for one reason alone-to see QBERT live...and ohmygod, it was well worth the trip and the entrance fee i had to pay.
Where Else is still the bizzomb for me...minus the "grooviest dancer of the night" contest, i really hate that...but aside from that, the place is hyped on wednesdays...so i suggest u go there if u love hiphop and rnb......in fact...i just got home from there...hehe
karou_himura...try a place like cork in rockwell...its hardly ever full, its comfrotable and theres music but not too loud...my friend and i usually go there if we just wanna kick it....

After attending the anniversary of a website in Eastwood. I noticed lots of good bars that needed quality music.
Blue Onion was a big disappointment. They play mainstream and nothing else. It's Profit over Quality.
Culture Club last saturday was another disappointment as I saw a few partyphiles in the dancefloor. DJ Patch would be playing there next week and I'm hoping the best for him!

We were at Culture Club last Saturday, too. I had to admit, it was surprising considering for the past 3 or so Saturdays I'd been there it was quite packed.
Well, on the other hand, last Saturday the GrooveNation guys were kalat -- some of them were in Mazo(? the one below PoNaNa), some in Malate, the others, out of town.
The other funny thing that happened was that Culture Club started playing hiphop / R&B on Saturday night. Probably because the few people (less than 30, I think?) who were there weren't even dancing anymore. =\
Oh, well. Wherehouse and Decades uli.

Not everyone is against hiphop and r&b. It just so happens that they are the kind of music that most of the people here love right now. Fact is, other forms of dance music had to take a backseat. Same case as it was before when trance hit Manila and Hard House. Too bad a lot of people are so fickle-minded about the scene too. But as they say, you can't please them all. :smokin:

It's the same case back then when Trance artist Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone" hit the dance clubs and bars. Mainstream music will always be mainstream. You can't make them listen to the rest of what hiphop has to offer but we can always try. That's the reason why DJs play. And I'm hoping that a lot more people would want to open their minds to other forms of music too. :smokin:

I guess nothing will beat Hard Rock Cafe kahit minsan madaming mga prosti dun w/ foreigners it's still a great place to dance and listen to live music.
