How about a gimmick outside Manila? What places would you suggest to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city? Tagaytay's a nice place to start..but c'mon, let's get a little more adventurous.
Backpacking in Camiguin? Whitewater rafting in the Cagayan River? Walking the Canopy walk in Claveria at 150 ft above ground? Windsurfing or beach bumming? Pilgrimage up Mount Arayat?

I've heard that Tagaytag Highlands is a really cool place. It's too bad that I haven't seen it myself though.

Hmmm... you can never go wrong with a beach. The sound of the waves crashing in while you go to sleep can really work wonders. Plus when you wake up to a beach sunrise... life can't get better than that. :)

Best weekend getaway huh? I would suggest trekking. For starters, Mt. Maculot in Cuenca, Batangas is a nice hike. Also trekking through Imelda Falls in Mt. Banahaw. I had a Sunday mass on the top of Mt. Batulao, felt so heavenly. There are a lot of places to go to, just explore the Philippines, love your own.

true enough, try Mt. Maculot in Cuenca Batangas and you'd never go wrong! Afterwards, try the beaches in Batangas. Go to Kainan sa Dalampasigan in Nasugbu and you're in for a very hearty feast! Malapit na ang mga beautiful beaches dun!

funny u mentioned this... place is owned by a cousin, and it's been months since i tasted my favorite baked tahong... the tanigue steak is to die for too... don't 4get to finish with halo-halo... mmmm, getting hungry...
sorry, off topic.. couldn't help it...
on-topic, 'best' is subjective, and depends on ur budget and idea of fun... some people have the resources to hop on their private chopper to go to their private island in palawan, while others are happy to just drive to subic or batangas beaches... the surfing spots up north were getting some attention when i left manila, try checking them out... i've always wanted to go to ilocos too, after a sidetrip to baguio... that'll have to wait til the next time i go home :)

whether ur a big timer or not, one deserves to be treated nicely. people in tagaytay highlands lack proper education and training. they shouldn't be there!!! yon lang ang masasabi ko.

Weekend lang? Try 4-wheel drive off-roading to Mt. Pinatubo. If you have an SUV or 4x4 pick-up truck that you're comfortable with (I mean, you're willing to give it a good workout), the drive over the lahar route is something else! Take your vehicle as far as it can go .... as of last summer, it was a campsite called "Dapili" (I think). Surreal place especially on a moonlit night, plus a warm-water brook flowing right outside your tent, you can bathe in the nude al fresco! Terrain is never the same because each time it rains, the river rises and "erases" the routes. Have fun! If you need more details, e-mail back.
Some groups are cutting new access routes from Clark.

Yup, Eiser, I've been there ... I love Forest Hills! 'twas just me and my date, we had all 3 bedrooms to ourselves. and when you stay in a place like that, you wouldn't want to go out anymore. so we bought a lot of stuff from the duty-free supermarket, cooked up some "experimental" meals, had wine, read books, watched TV and ...... love the couch!

don't mean to be contrary but i wouldn't say subic is a great getaway these days. it's sadly deteriorated and there's nothing much to do.:( except maybe for the water sports.
about the accomodations, Forest Hills is ideal i guess, especially if you're going as a group. the three bedrooms are spacious and the apartments come fully furnished, down to the kitchen utensils. personally though, i found the environment rather sterile. might have been all that white paint...
but if you don't need all that room, i think you're better off staying at one of the hotels. the location is better (forest hills is in the middle of nowhere!) and you get daily maid service. Legenda is supposedly the top-rated hotel, although the converted barracks (forgot what they renamed it:D isn't bad).

i think that's a prevalent problem in most parts of manila: you have to look, act, talk like you're someone to get proper service. something to do with how people there are so quick to judge others...and how money always talks...:(
but back to the topic:
i think Tagaytay Highlands does deserve a nod for being a great weekend getaway. i swear, the breeze over there feels different, it gives restorative energy. a perfect change of pace from stressful city-life. the restaurants are so-so but the recreational facilities are excellent. my favourite is the little camping place (i forget what it's called) where you can rent a nipa hut (air-conditioned or not, your choice) and a private wading pool. (thanks to some thoughtful landscaping, some of the pools are very secluded!;) ) oh, and the view of the lake is magnificent!:D

like ChiQui, i think the beach, any beach is a great weekend getaway. nothing like the sound of the waves to soothe frayed nerves. Tali, anyone?:D
