Kontrobersyal's Episode On University Basketball Scams

Anyone here who watched Boy Abunda's KONTROBERSYAL last October 19, 2005? (if u dont, try catching it up again of ANC) They featured the scams/controversies that have been haunting the UAAP this past season.

first on the list: PAGKAPIKON (sapul uli ang iba diyan)

Manny Salgado's case.... very unsportsman like. hindi na raw nagpa-interview ang DLSU sabi ni boy abunda. ewan ko kung bakit. nasa psyche na raw talaga ng mga player ang pagkapikon sa laro.. they just have to control it.

Second: winning at all cost (ouch uli! ang sabi ng iba diyan)

Kenneth (an asset, not real name) confessed that there are really some schools na talagang willing magbayad ng malaki, gastusan, kahit mandaya ng records para lang makuha ang isang magaling na player. tsk tsk tsk...

lastly, bentahan ng laro

nasabi rin doon na binenta ng isang ateneo player ang laro (vs UST kung saan natalo nga ang ateneo) but the plan was mananalo pa rin dapat ang ateneo by less than 5 points..... JC intal, and the rest of the blue eagles denied it strongly though... pinagsisihan daw ng player na ito ang ginawa niya ayon sa asset kasi kung nanalo nga ang ateneo dun sa game na yon, twice to beat sana sila. :(

i hope you were also able to watch the insider last night. they interviewed a former college basketball player, identity and name of school witheld. the story goes like this...

he was a highly recruited basketball player. "this school" recruited him. coach and manager asked him to sign a 5 to 10 year contract. contract states that if he gets into the amateur and pro league, they"ll get a portion of his income.
he did not sign the said contract. result: coach would always get mad at him during practices. player losses confidence. to make the long story short. he was booted out of the team. his dreams of becoming a professional basketball player just went down the drain.

who do we blame here? coach asking you to sign a contract to be his manager? isn't this a conflict of interest? we know he has the power to make or break a player"s career.

i"ve heard about this story for a quite sometime already. i presumed people were just making it up since said coach is winning so many championships in this said league. it was apparently the reason why last year the school was having second thoughts of extending his contract. they found out about this unethical practice. he denied it when confronted. but some people has a copy of their said managing corporation with even his wife as an incorporator. when i asked why he even bothered to include his wife. answer: more shares of the profit.

who and what school they are implying? your guess is only as good as mine

opinyon lamang ito: siguro ito ang isa sa mga drawbacks ng pagiging isang celebrated na iskul, kasama na ng magandang publicity (hyped ateneo-lasalle rivalry, exposure sa commercials: bench gel featurning manalo and villanueva) eh ang posibilidad na tirahin ng tirahin pag bad publicity naman, mabenta kayo pag good pub, malamang mabenta rin kayo pag kontrobersya na paguusapan.

Ateneo played relax and started flat. The game plan was to show Jai have a strong case to win the ROY. Unfortunately it backfired. Ababou showed brilliance in that game, totally negating stats of Jai. Worse, Ateneo lost the game, and as it turned out, lost the possible finals stint. (Had they won that game they would be rank 2; UE and DLSU tied at 3-4)

Jai still won the ROY, (but with 80% of PEXERS disagreeing. tsk tsk)

I watched the show last night (insider and kontrobersyal).
Palagay ko lang:
parang may bias, ang mali lang dun ay bakit nagpress release agad yung tatay ni Benitez eh yung DLSU nga wala pang official statement at findings dun sa kanilang investigation, tantamount na umaamin yung tatay ni Mark na guilty sila.

Sa palagay ko dapat hinintay muna ng tatay ni Benitez ang resulta ng DLSU investigation. Sabagay di natin masisisi yun kasi tatay sya, ganun talaga pag magulang ka at nakikita mo na nadedehado ang anak mo. :D

Ang nagtataka lang ako bakit mga taga ADMU ang ininterview ?
Parang duda ako sa UAAP board person na na interview kagabi, parang lamya sumagot, para bang wala lang sa kanya yun , hindi ba nya naisip na integridad ng UAAP ang nakataya sa isyu na yun ?
confirmed na kaya yun na sa SMB si Arwind ? Haaay sayang....

It turns out that Palou is at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Complex, where the Blue Eagles are also practicing. Since you're there, you grab the opportunity to interview the Blue Eagles and Norman Black.

- La Salle refused to comment.

- Boy Abunda is gay, and wanted to be able to interview some college basketball players.

- They knew it would spite everyone who's got even the tiniest anti-Ateneo streak. All this because of the Evil Azure Empire(tm).

Sinabi mo pa,sabi sa kontrobersyal mga alumni daw minsan ang may pakana, nag offer ng kotse, pera para nga naman kumagat yung player.
Di ba sabi nga sa isang post sa kabilang thread Winning at ALL COST.
Kapag nanalo sa UAAP dumadami enrolee nila, eh batayan ba ang UAAP title sa pag pasok mo sa isang pamantasan ? Ako kaya pumasok ako sa FEU dahil naisip ko na maganda ang turo at hindi pa mataas ang tuition (nung mid 90's) dito hindi dahil marami silang UAAP trophy. Ewan ko ba dun sa ibang makikitid ang utak, porke nanalo ng UAAP title ang school ay dun na sila mag eenroll, wow may kinalaman na pala ang pagkapanalo UAAP ng pag hahanap nang pamantasan na papasukan mo. At ang basehan nila para masabi na magaling ang school nila ay ang manalo ng maraming UAAP trophy.
Ang alam ko na pang attract sa mga estudyante para mag enroll sa isang university/ college ay ang Academic Program, at mga Academic Related Achievment, hindi UAAP trophy. Hirap kasi sa iba dyan, pagnagchampion sila sa UAAP feeling nila magaling na sila kasi nanalo sila sa UAAP.

Para linawin ko lang, hindi po basehan ang UAAP para masabing mataas nag level ng isang pamantasan.

Meron pa ba nung tinatawag na kredibilidad ang school nyo kung 3 taon na pala nag lalaro yung ineligible player sa team ng school nyo ? 3 Taon bago inamin at pagkatapos ng buong 3 UAAP SEASON.

There is nothing new about all these sport scandals. Ineligible players, players who don’t attend classes, players who didn’t pass the entrance exams of the school, players who get perks and money just to join the team and bookies fixing the games. The uaap has turned into a big gambling arena and these scandals are what you get when coaching staffs are dead set in getting the big payoff with gaining basketball glory. The alumni, oddsmakers, bookies and gamblers are running the show here. The money involved here is huge and one of the problem is it is easier to fix games in the uaap than in the professional league. I just hope that they’ll keep this basketball league rolling ‘cause I won’t stop betting. :glee:

IMO marami kasing nagpupustahan sa UAAP odds kaya nagpatalo ang ADMU sa UST. Sabi nila si Tenorio daw nagpalaglag ng laro sa ADMU para panalo sa pustahan UST. +10.5 ang UST sa game na un e. Kaso nde nagawa ng ADMU na manalo. Nasobrahan sa palaglag.

^eh ngayon lang naman lumabas ang isyu na binenta ang laro ng ateneo sa UST. walang lumabas na ganyang issue during the course of Season 68. Yung idea na binenta also came from this episode of Kontrobersyal as confessed by the asset. sandamakmak nga na batikos ang inabot ng mga players ng ateneo dito after the game for playing a lousy game against UST, pero walang idea na lumabas that says binenta ang laro..

I suggest everyone na kung magpopost dito make sure na may konti kayong alam sa episode na pinag-uusapan o kaya may konting logical reasoning.

I bet mga taga-** ***** na naman itong humahanap ng butas sa ateneo. hahaha.... nakakahiya. 3 ineligible players? hehe
