Games Saturday (Makati Coliseum)
2 p.m.-St. Benilde vs AdU
4 p.m.-La Salle vs Letran
THE REUNION match between the De La Salle Green Archers and the Letran Knights will be the highlight of the Champions League Grudge Games at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Makati Coliseum.

Decades ago, the Archers and the Knights figured in a bench-emptying and crowd-involving melee that occupied a chapter in the rich National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball lore at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The Archers have brought their act to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, where they've won four of the last five championships, while the Knights have stayed in the NCAA.

It would be interesting therefore to see how the Archers of coach Dindo Pumaren would fare against the Knights of coach Louie Alas.

Among the notable Archers are Jun Limpot and, of late, Mike Cortez; while the Knights have produced the likes of Samboy Lim and Terry Saldana.

Two former Archers who have turned coaches -- Tonichi Yturri of St. Benilde and Luigi Trillo of Adamson -- figure in a battle of the brains when their teams clash at 2 p.m. in the pre-tournament sponsored by Petron, San Miguel, PCSO, Milo and Adidas.

St. Benilde is with the NCAA while Adamson is a long-standing member in the UAAP.

Late Thursday night, University of the Philippines, benefiting from closing-minute turnovers by NCAA champion San Sebastian, stunned the Stags, 80-75, with Artemio Almeda scoring 14 points.

Pep Moore led the Stags with 22 points.

Nine teams from this phase will receive invitations to the post-tournament and join 23 other seeded teams to the championships, according to tournament commissioner Ramon Fernandez.
