who haven't read anne rice...
i was reading feast of all saints the other day, the last one i haven't read, and i just can't get enough...
don't tell me you didn't ever want to be a vampire after reading the vampire chronicles...
or a witch after reading of the mayfair witches......

I've read Rice, although I'm afraid I don't like her stuff.

I've read the entire vampire chronicles except for Armand. I didn't like Memnoch The Devil as much, it was too slow it only became interesting at the end.

hmm..no, I didn't want to be a vampire after reading them. Though I did play Vapire: The Masquerade LARP (Live Action Role Play) in the states.

Never read her/not my kind of stuff - altho' saw movies (only on TV/video) based on her books - Interview W/ A Vampire (Lestat - is dayu? :)) & one w/ Dan Ackroyd & Rosie O'Donnell as a dominatrix or somewhat - ano ngang title?

Bwahahahahaha!!

Although my name is §inned™, I am not really into vampires and Anne Rice. But, I saw Interview With a Vampire and Exit to Eden (yes, Geepers, that's the film you are talking about) and I didn't like them both.

Belinda is my favorite Anne Rice novel ;)

yah.. starting with Memnoch the Devil, all of them sorta kinda got stale already, but i'm interested in reading Pandora.. My favorite characters are those of the First Brood ;)

I’ve read two of her books – Interview With A Vampire and Lasher. The former was tolerable, the latter absolute torture. I swore never to read any of her books again.

I read all three "Interview w a Vampire", "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned". That was the time I gorged on and was steeped in "vampiric" things. Na-convince din ako na pwede talagang maging vampire tayo. Ayoko lang yung mga parts na ginagawang megaphone of her personal views yung iba. I didn't agree on those. Prose, yun nga, di masyado A-okay pero I enjoyed the vampire (their origin and their "telenovela" conflict) idea she put forth.

Lesta: R u serious u don't know Rice and u have that nick?

Jonny: Pandora is a nice book. Specially after Memnoch The Devil, it's the start of the new chronicles. The Elders.

slurbrun, :) :) :)

Ada, I agree with you on that Lasher book, after reading a few pages, I just threw the book away. Hardbound pa naman, pero okey lang, binili ko lang naman ng barya sa Goodwill Store :). But still, it was a waste of good "barya." :(

maxwell: yep.. i plan on reading them one of these days... i think i'll buy her books paperback for now since they're not worth the $27 hardcover anymore...

speaking of the elders and the first brood.. that's why my favorite vampire chronicle book is Queen of the Damned..

I got to scan "Lasher", medyo nag-gravitate ako dun sa mga pages where Lasher was still in his newborn stage. Medyo nag-ka-vertigo of sorts ako do'n. ;)

Read the Sleeping beauty Chronicles of Anne Rice. Extremely erotic, full of SM and kung anu-ano pang sexual practices. Anne Rice's perversion in text. Worse than Belinda...

Anyway, her other books are ok. I like the Vampire Chronicles. They're interesting concepts of Vampires.

Did you know she gets drunk whenever she writes? It helps her think better.

Read Queen of the Damned and Interview with the Vampire. Her prose is so cloying, thick and dripping like syrup, gives me heartburn. Not really one of my faves. She created a whole myhtology of her own though and it is likable.

i have to get hold of those other novels u guys mentioned because i'm really curious about them.. do u know where i could find those novels under her other pen names (Anne rampling and AN Roquelaure)??

I love anne rice but don't even try going near Memnoch the Devil(book 5 of the Vampire Chronicles) or Violin. Kaantok mashado! For those who have the patience(and time), try Witching Hour (Book 1 of Lives of the Mayfair Witches) it'd make Lasher a very interesting book :)

loved "queen of the damned" and "memnoch the devil". haven't read anything outside of the vampire chronicles (the original set) aside from the following: "the mummy" (nice-ish), "taltos" (deplorable book), "cry to heaven", "pandora" (disappointing), and "vittorio" (so-so).

can anyone tell me if "violin" and "armand" are good reads?

I once bought a boxed set of anne rice's the vampire chronicles, and I have to say that she is......inconsistent at best. I mean, some books like The Vampire Lestat, Queen Of The Damned, and (maybe) Memnoch The Devil were decent reads, but Interview, Body Snatcher and Armand were pure torture. I mean, they were so bad that I had to force myself to finish them as quickly as possible so I can forget about them as quickly as possible.

Used to be a rabid Rice fan here but gotta admit some of her other books ARE snooze-inducing (especially Violin... the main character sounds like Rice herself, dontcha think?) http://www.pinoyexchange.com/snooze.gif . I still like the Vampire Chronicles and some of the Taltos series. The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy is extremely perverse (there's this statue thing with the huge *thing* that offenders have to... ok, I won't say anymore. It's creeping me out) http://www.pinoyexchange.com/bleh.gif

i really like anne rice's vision and concept of vampires. compared to bram stoker's insensitive monster, her vampires have romance and music around them. she gave them dimension and purpose.

the one thing i hate about anne rice, though, ...is her prose! god, the woman is so verbose!! as in VERBOSE!! her books wouldn't be so g..damned boring if she cut to the chase. i read her letter adoring the tom cruise movie version (which she bashed), and all i thought was, is she long-winded or what?!! is she ever getting to the point in this century?

anyway, just my two cents worth.. she has a brilliant imagination (what about those beauty novels, ha?) pa rin. da best!

Her 22-ear-old son is putting a book out himself. I don't have the title but it's not as dark as his mother's works.

Rice scares me! I believe she's talented. But I wish she would focus her talent on lighter things.

I used to be obssessed with the Vampire Chronicles, especially with Lestat http://www.pinoyexchange.com/blush.gif I mean, what makes Anne Rice so great is her ability to create this whole new universe and make it completely believable. I actually believed we could be vampires. Well, sometimes it gets scary like in Memnoch the Devil, but hey, she always makes you think, huh?
Anyway, does anybody have any info on the Queen of the Damned movie? and in case you guys don't know yet, Rice's new Vampire Chronicle, Merrick, is due out September (in the US, i think) :)

i love anne rice. i love her characters more, especially lestat. another favorite are the mayfair witches. her stories are all so deliciously spine-tingling. i didn't like memnoch the devil though. that was too weird for me. another thing i hate about her novels are the homosexual in it. the way she injects more and more about homosexuality in her more recent novels are really disturbing and in fact, annoying even. not that i abhor homosexuality. i just don't find it entertaining. the mayfair witches was a beautifully done novel. i loved it very much. the vampire chronicles were great too.

I read Anne Rice's books, and the best ones belong to the Vampire Chronicles. I'm talking about The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, though Armand sorts of grows on you if you persevere enough in wading through the novel. It's a bit boring at times, eh.
I really got into this preternatural world of hers with QoD and Lestat's autobiography because kahit na masyadong wordy kung minsan ang style of writing ni Rice doon, there's this intensity and sheer inventiveness in her writing in the two books that captivate the reader.
I, too, fell in love with Lestat de Lioncourt :luvluv: because he is the anti-hero whom a lot of people can identify with. I certainly do! But I also liked Marius and Armand a lot.
Kaya lang, parang nag-deteriorate ang quality ng mga books niya starting with Tale of the Body Thief. Sa totoo lang, I was bored with the book.
Okay lang ang series niya on the Mayfair witches, and I liked Ashlar very much. I had to take my time in reading The Witching Hour kasi super kapal na nga ng book, maliit pa ang font ng copy ko.
I even bought a copy of the first book in the Sleeping Beauty trilogy, kaya lang it was full of perversions.:bonkself: I didn't buy the other two na. The trilogy's labeled as erotica, pero I think it's S & M :whip:. Huwag nang ipabasa sa mga inosente ang pag-iisip.

Of the Vampire Chronicles, I like Queen of the Damned the most. The stuff after, like Pandora, (the book with Lestat and the Devil) and Armand, I didnt like as much. There really wasnt as much imagery and provocativeness (is there a word?) after Queen of the Damned, I think.

I like the Mayfair Witches series. Especially Taltos.

Aside from Queen of the Damned (badly battered, tattered and scotch-taped in places), my favorite Anne Rice book would have to be The Mummy.

This may really sound lame but it's the hard-core truth (besides, i was only 12 then), i got started with anne rice NOT because my interest was whetted by the movie Interview w/ the Vampire, but coz i was attracted to the front cover of The Witching Hour. It had nothing, besides the cover, not even a brief overview on the back and i had no idea what the book was about, i wasn't even aware of anne rice then. To cut the story short, i started reading and immediately got a taste of her vampire chronicles (which i now have a whole collection of :beam: )
At first the books and the quality were really good but after a while it did get stale. And i really despise The Tale of the Body Theif. Another thing is that, why the heck is Louie so freakin weak?!?!! i get the point that he's suppose to be fragile and the most humane vampire amongst them BUT REALLY, why does he have to be so weak?! Every other character has evolved into a higher being while he has deviantly remained stagnant in his development.
Complain as i may, i'm an avid fan of her books (i'm contradicting myself here) since i'm, more or less, addicted to books that are into suffering. And all that grief, pain and guilt moves me more than anything in this world can.
I really want to be a vampire... i don't know, it could be that i'm partially influenced by the glamour given to it and all romance but most of all i think i just want to see things in their perspective and understand their way of thinking. i don't really have any concrete reason as to why every now and then i toy with the idea of being a vampire, maybe i don't have to have an explanation... :hmm:
other books that aren't related to the vampire or witch chornicles that i really liked were Cry to Heaven and The Mummy. by the way, what do you guys think of the book MERRICK?
Hey Lucien, noon pa ako naiintriga sa sleeping beauty... is it really that perverted? :naughty: hehehe

Ill look for it somewhere in the house, and Ill post the "*hint, hint*!" sort-of epilogue in my version of The Mummy.

Was it me, or did you imagine Ramses as hot-damn, come-to-momma, you're-good-enough-to-eat handsome?

I liked the way she wrote Ramses' coming back to life and scaring Henry. I was reading at night, and I was the only one up. It really freaked me out. I mean, fifteen na ako nun ha, tapos natakot pa rin ako. Galing nya talaga.

i only started the vampire chronicles recently because i had nothing else to read! buti na lang hindi pa ako na-tempt bumili ng libro niya, yung kaibigan ko ang anne rice fan kaya nanghiram na lang ako ng libro... buti na lang!!!! sorry na lang sa mga fans niya...pero ang BORING niya talaga! ako din, binabasa ko na nang mabilis para matapos na. dragging siya talaga. hindi bale kung naisasabi niya yung gusto niya sabihin, parang nahihirapan pa nga siya ilarawan yung mga images na gusto niyang ipahiwatig sa mga mambabasa niya. ako kasi isa sa mga Constant Readers ni Stephen King, eh ihambing niyo naman style nila... kay SK nadadala niya ako sa mundo niya, kay AR...wala. But to give her credit, yes, her talent for creating a mythology all her own, that's amazing. Sinu-sunod ko yung Vampire chronicles, kaya tama nga, ang pinaka-magandang nabasa ko sa ngayon eh "Queen of the Damned". I'm actually looking forward to read Armand's book because he's my favorite vampire.

Sabi ko sa kaibigan ko, baka mataas ang standards ko kaya hindi ko magustuhan si AR. Hinde, baka lang daw mataas ang threshold of tolerance niya kaya gusto niya si AR, tapos masochista lang ako at basa pa rin ako nang basa kahit ayoko na kay AR! hehehe... i think anne rice is not the best writer of horror.actually,i don't think that much of stephen king din.pero kung papipiliin ako sa dalawa, kay anne rice ako.sure, she can be verbose sometimes, pati siguro yung bangaw na dadapo sa ilong ni lestat idedescribe niya:D ,but that's where you can see the beauty of her words. magaling siyang sumulat.i think, more than anything else, sobrang existentialist ng mga vampires niya.but i really like them, tsaka yung pagkakasulat sa buhay nila.
maganda din yung mayfair witches chronicles.it's very graphic.but personally, ayoko rin ng masyadong "mystical" ang dating.
my favorite sa vampire chronicles is QUEEN OF THE DAMNED.pero kung hindi mo type ang existentialist talk, baka mas mabuti wag kang magsimula sa vampire chronicles.try reading Cry To Heaven. i liked that because of the content of the story.an educated reader can immediately tell that a lot of research has gone into it. to write about music and make this subject appealing and understandable to non-musically inclined people (esp.me) is really an accomplishment.
try it out,ang hirap kasi sa ibang writers,nako-caught up sa genres nila.i like to read anne rice to have a feel of how she would describe the inner world of art and music.

hindi ko makakalimutan yung Memnoch The Devil
I'm a protestant and i grew up being very active in church because my parents brought me up that way.
Nung nabasa ko yung book, ang ganda ng pagkakasulat ni Anne Rice sa arguements ni Memnoch. That Jesus really didn't know what it felt like to be a man because he knew that he was a god. He was telling god to send Jesus to earth without him knowing na god sya.
It almost shattered my faith! I thought: maybe Jesus wouldn't have scrificed himself if he didn't know that he was going to rise up from the dead after three days. Ayun wala lang...
ang ganda ng mga arguements sa book. it's very convincing. anyway i'm ok now. but i still think that it's a well-written book.
