What do you think about poetry readings?
Ever participated in one?
Do you know where the good venues are?

UST regularly holds poetry readings with performance art incorporated (usually on Valentine's Day, Halloween, Christmas Day, the birthday bash of a well-known Thomasian vampire, on artistic days or on occasions when the Thomasian poets are having their unexplainable bloody cathartic mood). Poets from other schools or if you have the guts to show flesh are always invited. You may also borrow the TWG poetry readings on video from Poet/Author Roel Hoang Manipon or you may inquire at the Thomasian Writers Guild's (TWG) office, Faculty of Arts and Letters.

Oh I forgot, during the mid-to-late 90s, important campus poets and those well-established writers usually hold their poetry readings in either UST or UP. There are also poetry readings held in DLSU once in a while so you may also inquire there.
Other "usual" poetry reading venues: Mayric's, Club Dredd or Red, I forgot (I believe was closed in the late 90s or maybe they re-opened it or something), or you may try visiting the underground bars in Malate, Quezon Avenue etc. - the places where the poets converge to save the Philippine literature.

I've been to a couple and participated in a couple, too. They're loads of fun! You get a chance to share what you've written. Mostly, you get a chance to hear what other's have, too. A great exchange of thoughts and experiences. They can be moving most of the time. A feast for the mind! :)

I actually have been to a couple, novice, semi-closet poet reader that I am. Both were actually part of a gig. One was even, incidentally, my band's acoustic gig. And the other was at Big Sky Mind with another band. It's a pretty cool experience in its own way, after you get over the feeling of being laying your soul for the world to hear about.

That's great, Cala! I remember one of my buddies literally and figuratively burning himself down while shouting burn! burn! burn! as he was reading his poem. It was moving, but the burning scene was scary.

I'm a rhythmic person, so playing drums, dancing, and vocalizing my poetry come naturally...
... so perhaps tomorrow's EB could feature some readings.

I've participated in poetry readings almost yearly. Most schools and universities hold poetry readings. Our school did kaya everytime may gathering, I'm there. They would always invite me.
There are also restos and cafes in Manila that hold poetry readings. Just try to get hold of their schedules and you may be just lucky.
Sarap ng feeling when you're there na infront of your fellow poets...

hey! i found this interesting looking announcement of a poetry reading. i have been to some poetry reading but mostly among friends and teachers lang. i have never been to one where celebrities are the ones doing the reading. it makes me wonder if these guys can read poems as well as they can perfom songs.
