My favorite local newspaper would be Philippine Daily Inquirer. They have interesting news, their editorials are generally well-written and thought-provoking, and they have great, great features. I don't understand, though, why they devote so much space for ballroom-dancing (I think it runs during Thursdays?). Sometimes, their news isn't balanced, but that's part of the charm--their anti-Erap stance. :)

My favorite international (?) paper would be NY Times (online). Very, very extensive coverage of news, great editorials, and interesting features.

The Philippine Star. Overall, I think it's okay. I just wish they would cut down on the society pages [read: Maurice Arcache].

PDI... i love their youngblood section (tues, thurs, sat)... it's where young ppl 20s and below get to share their views and experiences about anything under the sun...sometimes the stories are funny, sometimes mushy, sometimes nakakaiyak talaga....

and of course, fearless views. d tulad ng bulletin na halatang sobrang sipsip sa gov't(err..no offense to mb readers out there)

Once upon a time in this country, the newspapers generally told the truth. I remember my mother saying "nabasa ko sa diyaryo" whenever people asked her where she got her information, and that was enough proof for most people.

But that was in the 60s, before some very intelligent bar topnotcher became president and managed to muzzle the entire press, causing damage that hasn't quite been fixed up to now.

So I have learned not to trust one single paper. I have to read two, maybe three, and decide for myself what to believe - usually that which lies somewhere in between the opposing viewpoints. I read the Inquirer *and* the Bulletin, and sometimes the Star. I also read BusinessWorld.

For foreign news, I rely on the International Herald Tribune and the Asian Wall Street Journal.

I have become tired of reading the front page news, it's becoming to pointless to read anyway :) So I go off to the features instead. My favorites are Inquirer's People at Work, Business Monday and 2BU; and Star's Business Life.

PDI has an informative analysis page.

Laking PDI ako e...it has been our newspaper at home for almost a decade already...we used to buy Bulletin Today(Manila Bulletin) but those were the days when all I read is just the Comics Page. :D

Aside from the Frontpage, Editorial and Sports page, I also like Inner Mind, Tales of the City, Trivia by Bong Barrameda, Technology Page, Nestor Torre's column, and of course... 'Pugad Baboy' & 'A. Lipin'(and 'Coffee Cats')in the Comics Section. :D

Love the Philippine Daily Inquirer

For international papers, there is nothing like the New York Times (the online version) which is my start up page as well... Love its comments and its news features and articles.

It has to be PDI. I like their opinion pages best, with the likes of Rina Jimenez David, Winnie Monsod, Belinda Olivares Cunanan, Neal Cruz and Conrado de Quiros giving their fearless views. Di ko rin pinapalampas ang articles ni Michael Tan, yung Pinoy Kasi, coz he has this way of combining humor, wit and sarcasm na informative in a sense.

The papers I NEVER fail to read everyday...

Local
- Philippine Daily Inquirer... nuff said!

Foreign
- Wall Street Journal (Online)... Probably the best business newspaper you can lay your eyes on!
- New York Times (Online)... They've got excellent reads in their Business, Technology, Sports and Magazine section!

PDI's the best! Their Sports section could use more articles though. I seldom get a chance to read the other sections though.

Yung classified Ads nila, mas malaman kaysa sa PDI and Star combined. :)

For me, The Philippine Daily Inquirer is a great newspaper. Try to read the column of Mr. Ramon Tulfo at the Metro section and I have to tell you, it's becoming hotter since his latest expose :fight: .

i have to admit, laking-PDI din ako, but when PDI went online, sa www.inq7.net (yup, www.inquirer.net pa yun dati) na ako nagbabasa ng PDI. tapos, para minsanan na lang ang pagpunta sa site, dina-download ko na ito sa PDA ko. kung sa bagay, konti lang namang columnists tinututukan ko (De Quiros and Michael Tan).

I like the editorial of TODAY better... it's well crafted and sarcastically funny!(sometimes) atsaka mas gusto ko ang treatment ng TODAY sa news. atsaka yung layout na rin.

Haba no? cheap pa, wala kasing pera ang writer.

for me, it would definitely be the INQUIRER. i like the "look" of this newspaper. di ko alam kung anong tawag dun, layout ba? di kase tulad ng ibang newspaper na magulo.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS, BUT I STILL THINK MANILA BULLETIN IS THE BEST NEWSPAPER. THERE'S NO SENSATIONALISM, WHICH IS THE CONCERN OF MOST BROADSHEETS TODAY. ANYWAY, HAVE YOU HEARD OF THEIR SECTION, JUST FOR KICKS? IT'S THEIR YOUTH SECTION WHICH COMES OUT I THINK... WED, FRI AND SAT. ANYWAY, IT'S REALLY COOL 'COZ THEY DON'T GO FOR THE SHOWBIZ-Y STUFF, AND THEY SEEM TO WRITE WITH PERSONAL CONCERN ON THEIR SUBJECTS. BASTA, IT'S REALLY GOOD. READ IT! IT'S NOT LIKE 2BU WHICH I THINK IS SUCH A KNOW-IT-ALL SECTION AND YOUNG STAR THAT'S FLOODED WITH BIG NAMES TO BACK THEIR COLUMNS (AND I AIN'T REALLY SURE IF THESE GUYS REALLY KNOW HOW TO WRITE. BY THE WAY, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DISS THESE OTHER PAPERS, IT'S MY OWN OPINION).

ANOTHER GOOD PAPER IS TODAY, ALTHOUGH THEY COME OUT ONLY IN BLACK AND WHITE, NO BIG COLORED PIX LIKE THE TOP 3 PAPERS. HMMM... WHAT ELSE, MAGAZINE, WHERE DID FLIP GO?:D
