Coach Norman will make sure the boys don't take any team lightly. If they foul up, he won't say much (NEVER yells at his players) pero lagot sila sa susunod na practice.
Basta I hope we get a good 10-15 point lead at the end of the first quarter so LA and JC can get some rest early. I have a feeling our little stick of Jainamite could go nuts in this game. *okay*

UST can surprise ADMU in this one. they've got nothing to lose. for experience na lang nung younger players nila yung hinahabol nila eh. tapos ang ADMU eh galing pa sa 2 straight exhausting games tsaka 7 game winning streak na sila baka matalo na sila this time around. ADMU will surely win this one if they will never become complacent.

Pre-game notes:
- The Ateneo Blue Eagles will need the UST and NU games to gain momentum versus FEU and La Salle. Reaching win #9 will get them a Final Four slot, so these games are crucial. This is also to solidify our grip on the top two spots. If we beat UST, NU, FEU, and La Salle, we may even grab the top spot.
- The Tigers have been learning how to buckle down. The Blue Eagles will have to take note that the Tigers seem to be learning how to stage comebacks, and how to shoot treys in the endgame. The Blue Eagles' defense will need to be tight and smart. We can force UST into committing errors, and we should.
- The Blue Eagles also have to start hot and build a lead early on. This, coupled with strong defense, will keep UST at bay and even allow our bench to get into the game. Assert inside, take shots from outside when open. Smart offense.
- Intensity must be up until the dying buzzer whatever.
- The Sixth Man should also show up.

This is perhaps one of the biggest upsets of the season. UST stops the winning streak of Ateneo. More importantly, UST grabs 6th place. A rather modest achievment for the rookie-laden and relatively weak UST Tigers team.

The gods were with UST - Congratulations UST 77 -73, major upset.
Goats of the game.
LA Tenorio - two three points attempt with 27 seconds remaining, bad decision, really cold today and yet he takes two three point attempts - in local paralance "tira para sikat"- not.
JC Intal, all alone, he decides to dunk the ball instead of just a sure two layup - "tira para sikat" -not.
Bad attitude, LA Tenorio berating JC Kramer for not defending/switching against Jojo duncil - big ego at the closing, bad decision.
REally difficult to come back from 22 points.
True heart of a champion - UST, what a nice way to end the season, giving Ateneo a big loss.
Dylan Ababou of UST, two thumbs up, best player of the game 20+ points. Saludo kami sa iyo.

Hindi yun pasikat. Tama yun.
That was the right thing to do. Dapat talaga dinunk yun kaso di lang pumasok. Actually Ateneo got a big break there when he wasn't called for a travel. Kung ni lay-up yun at di pumasok, sasabihin ng iba sana dinunk para sigurado na kasi all alone naman siya.

akalain mo! UST has become the huge spoiler of season 68.. sana next season, sila naman ang maging huge winner.. =) i can see the potentials, especially kay Duncil, Ababou and Taylor.. watch out for the next seasons to come, UST's gonna growl again! =)
Ang galing2 ni Dylan..player of the game..and take note, he's only a rookie..more yrs to come! By the way, is Warren okay na ba? sana naman minor sprain lang, kakaawa itsura nya kanina.. =/ On the other hand, i hate to say this pero..para bang nanalo yung tigers kasi wala c warren at pribhdas..hahaha! agree ako sa nagsabing "buwakaw" boys sila pminsan.. =) kanina, yung bola talagang umikot nang maayos.. hinilo nila ang eagles..so many turnover pts and whatta a defensive game from the tigers..wuhoo aztigg..
As for ADMU, let this thing be a challenge for them.. i mean, wag maliitin ang ibang teams bcuz everything can simply happen in a ball game..BILOG ANG BOLA. =)

That was a silly silly silly loss for Ateneo. They threw away the two game cushion they had over the other contenders for the Final Four.
Now, they placed themselves in the position to have essentially must win games against DLSU and FEU to secure the twice to beat advantage.
Why did Ateneo play so bad? Overconfidence and fatigue. You could tell that the players were just out of gas. even during warmups, the Blue Eagles looked tired. Intal and Japeth were not getting their usual lifts on their jumps, and even missed dunks during the layup drills. During the game, they were all a step slow. It looks like the grueling schedule in the previous week against UP and UE finally caught up to them. I am really curios as to how hard Black worked them in practice this week: a handful of players had bandages on their legs and arms.
The fatigue was so obvous..only Jai Reyes and Ken Barracoso looked fresh. UST did not throw anything Ateneo has not seen before.
Also give it to UST, they played extremely well for their standards and ability.
If I were Black, I would give the boys 3-4 days rest. And I would tell them to just think about what went wrong during the game. Rest, more than practice is the most obvious thing the team needs. I appeal to any member of the Ateneo coaching staff to give the boys time to recharge. All of them looked tired and a step too slow.
At the same time, iw ould get on their case about this game. YOu dont lose to UST and expect to win a championship. You also should not use fatigue as an excuse...you guys are ****ing athletes.
To put a positive spin on this setback, it will bring the Blue Eagles back down to earth...and make them go back to what made them, until today, the team that played the best basektball in the UAAP. it was built on hardwork, and the desire to prove tht they were better than what they displayed in their first round losses against LAsalle and FEU showed. Gain momentum against NU, and try to play well against FEU and LAsalle in the second round to be battle ready for the Final Four.
but that was really a ridiculous loss for the Blue eagles...tsk tsk tsk tsk.

Post-game notes:
- Great shooting game by UST. The Tigers got bailed out time and time again. Kudos to Dylan Ababou for having a great game.
- The Blue Eagles couldn't seem to get their offense going, leading to a rally that came too late. And when they couldn't respond to UST's rally and growing lead, it was clear that the Eagles were getting frustrated. They should have asserted their inside game more, and could have worked at shooting the high percentage shots better. Japeth and JC could've built confidence earlier on that way.
-The Blue Eagles' defense was haphazard. They were letting UST take easy baskets both inside, and did not adjust to control UST's outside shooting.
- This afternoon demonstrated something I have personally feared throughout the Eagles' 7-game win streak so far this season: The Eagles can win and shut out games provided they're ahead for most of the game, or can keep it close and then hit the gas in the endgame. The Eagles, however, have not yet learned how to come back from behind to win convincingly this season. Facing a large lead seemed to get to the Eagles today, as could be seen in their tentative offense and haphazard defense. Hopefully, this game will prepare them better for the next few matches and for the Final Four.
- I don't think LA taking the clutch shots was a good idea. I think Jai was hotter from beyond the arc today. The game could've also been won had JC made those putbacks he was trying to make off a missed Blue Eagle freethrow. Sayang.
- Great performance by the Blue Babble Battalion and the Sixth Man this afternoon. We came in force.
- Great halftime performance by the Blue Babble Band members. Even the UST YJs were applauding.
- Officiating was ****** for both sides. Martin Quimson should have been assessed a deliberate foul, while I think there were too many non-calls when the Eagles were taking inside shots.

I beg to disagree..In crunch time, I'd always go to my old and reliable top gunner in the team.. Yeah, LA maybe ice cold the entire game but when the game is on the line, of course you'd still go to your main man.. Jai had a great game but lik what I've said, I'd still want to see the ball in LA's hands.. It's as if saying that ball shouldn't be given to Kobe during crunch time just because he isn't shooting well the entire game..JV Casio is a perfect example..Most of the time, he shoots awful almost the entire game but he can shoot the threes when it matters the most coz he is the shooter of the team..C'mon, we won't have an 8-3 win loss record without LA's all around game..and the game just clearly shows that it's hard to win when LA doesn't play well..
Jai's performance this game gives us a glimpse of what he can do when LA leaves the team after this season..and this is something to look forward to in Season 69! :)

ust was hot... congrats... ateneo on the other hand should learn from this game. They beat themselves in this game. Buti nga at natalo... this should teach them a lesson not to be complacent and always give it their 100%. The impact of this loss however is undeniably huge especially since the DLSU UE game was reversed (i really think the game should be re-played instead of a complete reversal of the decision)... For ateneo to get the twice to beat advantage, they would have to sweep their remaining games (NU, FEU and DLSU) which is a tough task ahead. We may also need some help from the Fighting maroons (Which is already out of the final four race) to beat UE. Let's wish that the fighting maroons give it their all in this game, play without pressure and beat UE so ateneo will only need to win one game either against FEU or DLSU and not both. I believe that in case of a tie with UE, there will be a playoff to determine the #2 spot, so it is almost like a best of 3 final four between them. But as of now, it sure seams that the final four will be FEU(twice to beat) vs DLSU and UE(twice to beat) vs ateneo.
Although ateneo has beaten the red warriors twice in the elims, this doesnt mean ateneo can win two more games against them in the final four. Talent wise, ateneo and ue are almost equal. Delikado **** to, tsk tsk.. mukang magkakatotoo yun FEU vs UE finals. :depressed: I dont see lasalle beating FEU twice either. I dont think UE will lose four straight against ateneo which is the reason why I am still praying that we get the twice to beat edge. :depressed:
A call to all ateneans, both students and the alumni: Let us make the araneta colesium our home court advantage as well come final four time.. our team needs every help they can get when they face UE in the final four, which is inevitable.

Ateneo sure made life a lot more difficult for themselves. For them to get the twice to beat advantage, they'd have to close out their three remaining games with Ws. Adamson is ok, but against FEU and DLSU? If they lose the games against the latter 2, they'll probably be tied with La Salle for 3rd and 4th. Had they won the UST game, even losing their last two games would still assure them of a semis encounter with UE - a team they own this year.

a bit off-topic:
Watching the game live has always been a pleasure. For La Sallians, watching a ateneo game (whether intentional or just unavoidable) has always been a good case study.
In the usual mode, although we do not cohabit and cheer with ateneo's opponent (the hell we care with the opponent's cheer anyway), we always closely watch the game. Throughout the game, La Sallians just sit there in our usual stoic position as if uncaring of the development happening on the court. But the truth is, we are grinning inside whenever ateneo makes a bad move, the opponent makes a shot and of course, if the opponent wins the game. Of course there are some that would outrightly mock the ateneans by showing their approval and satisfaction whenever ateneo's facing defeat or being beaten but we do not go the the extent of mixing with the opponent. The banter is appropriately suited for the usual la salle-ateneo "alaskahan" only. Maybe, that's human nature and maybe, ateneans do the same.
But in yesterday's ust-ateneo game, although we were physically present during their game, we were unmindful of what was going around. While the Ateneans were egging their team throughout the game, the news about the technical committee reversing La Salle's win bothered many of us and had more bearing than ateneo winning or losing that game.
For the first time, I really did not care of ateneo's outcome and i think it's the same way to many La Sallians yesterday at beg. All we wanted was for the ust-ateneo game to end, have our game started and let go all our anger by beating UP. And so we did.
Anyway, congrats to UST!

It's like to christmases in one year for UST...
I thought Japeth missing a gimme dunk and Japs scoring on two succesive broken plays were ominous signs. I guess I was right with UST hitting most of its shots while ADMU, except for Jai, were missing theirs. Everybody from the UST side were contributing, including Apil, who may not scored a lot and committed some turnovers.

Congratulations UST TIGERS!!! We are very proud of you despite the end-game collapse for the nth time. (well, good thing we won) And it's expected that Ateneo will claw their way back to the game. But thanks to some breaks (l.a.'s 2 missed 3point shot, japeth's missed dunk, jc's missed dunk and 2 putbacks) we came up with the win. Not to take anything away from our players and coaching staff, the team really did their homework both offensively and defensively. Kudos to all of them especially Ababou, Taylor, Duncil and Coach Nel (yes you read it right! hehe). They proved once and for all that good ball movement and not star players can lead the team to victory. So please Danny let this game be a lesson to you. Our team can win with or WITHOUT YOU. Your teammates can do the job done. I expect a good future indeed for our team next season baring any injuries to the current line-up and the return of the original lacoste model Vizcarra.
Kudos to the Ateneo team also for not giving up and making a run in the 4th canto...
Yes, a healthy competition indeed for the USTYJ and BBB.

I hope this might be a lesson to the Blue Eagles. And I hope they unleash their anger against the Tamaraws and Green Archers. We bagly need it than Far Eastern or De La Salle.
Sayang.
i also want this to be the game where admu will look back and say "we can't do that again. we won't"
and hopefully la plays no more lousy games.

Congrats to UST! Hopefully this game will be a preview of things to come, especially since Coach Nel Parado promised a stronger line-up come the 2007 season (the year in which UST will be hosting the UAAP).
Kudos also to the Blue Eagles for a great game!

No question, UST deserved this one. The Ababou kid's gonna give all the other teams headaches for the next four years. Imagine going 7 for 7 from the two-point area in that game. His play was nothing short of remarkable.

Isn't it that 2008 is the turn of Santo Tomas for hosting the UAAP? The last time UST hosted the UAAP was in 2000, and its an 8-year cycle...

the University of the Philippines might be the one to host the UAAP in 2008 as part its centennial founding anniversary. akala ko ba sa 400th year anniversary ng UST maghohost ng UAAP?

What went wrong??
1. the Eagles' pathetic interior defense
I mean how many lay-ups they gave to the Tigers despite of the intimidating presence of Japeth??
How many hard cuts to the basket did bigs/wingmen of UST made that they converted into reverse lay-ups...bank shots...hooks?
2. The Eagles' pathetic zone
they should had seriously contested the outside shooting of UST...although I think that Taylor's 3 ptrs. frayed the nerves of the bigs guarding him ;)
3. LA Tenorio
where he flies, Ateneo flies....
he laid a huge Eagle Egg during that came..
unfortunately..the Eagle that cameout of the eggshell immediately went RIP..thanks to the loss :glee:
I've noticed that JC Intal is more comfortable dunking the ball with 2 hands rather than one hand...from what one of his former teammates told me...hindi raw kasi ganun kalaki ang mga hands niya para maging comfortable siya na idunk ang ball using one hand palagi
tsk tsk!! Birdbrained and Eggless play by the Eagles.... :naughty:

oo, alam ko UST and UP will trade places as hosts of the UAAP, in order to accomodate the latter because of its centennial anniversary on that year (2008), so sa 2007 magiging host ang UST. Regarding UST's quadrennial celebration in 2011, I think La Salle will be the hosts since they would also be celebrating their centennial anniversary on that year.

No. Ateneo will be the host of 2011. 2012 will be La Salle. La Salle will give way since it's much better to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of UAAP (yata? Hehe).
