kindly share your purpose in taking up law.
pls dont me give reasons like
1. i wanted to help poor people.
2. this is a calling, i must do it.
in case of # 2, yes i believe that law maybe a calling, but still if you took up law, what is your purpose?
thanks!

All the usual reasons...but as i grow older, these stand out.
Three reasons:
1) i like the challenge. they say law school is tough. bring it on! i work best under pressure. i can't see myself being as challenged (or as happy) in any other field as i would be in law school.
2) i get bored very easily. i need to be faced with different scenarios and deal with a variety of cases. I'd kill myself if I went through life focusing on one goal for one company in a 9-5 setting.
3) to get out of my parents' shadows...law was both their frustration (dad quit during his sophomore year in UP law/ mom got absorbed too quickly into the corporate world after graduation). Insecurity is a complex ive been battling all my life.

mahabang istorya and it involves "calling" :D
all of us more or less started with the idea of becoming a doctor someday. and then nung medyo nadevelop na ang utak ko at nalaman kong inuuto lang pala ako ng ating elders at nalaman ko rin na may kapabilidad pala akong humanga at pumili based on what i admire, i chose law. i was 7 then.
the likes of cherie gil playing a femme fatale lawyer in a power suit with power attitude in the court room was the root why i originally wanted to become a lawyer.***
and then came alley mcbeal, yeah, believe it, i liked her, more or less, and elle woods (legally blondes 1 and 2 <---- yeah, im guilty) further bolstered the reason.
and then came a few months before the 2004 LAE. Ayoko na. i thought. i realized ang pathetic ng reason ko.***
two weeks into the LAE my dad came to me and said "Anak, kuha ka ng LAE. Mgreview ka, babayaran ko". So ayun, ang lola niya, kuha ng LAE with the thought na "Since gumastos kami ng malaki dito so dapat di ko dapat idisappoint ang dad ko" (frustration din niya ang law, nagstop siya first year first sem sa MLQU).
and then i learned i passed the written exam just when i thought gumuguho na ang mundo ko.... a rival in our batch whom everybody thought would pass didn't pass the exam at siya pa ang nagbalita sa kin....take note, that time, muntik na akong di grumaduate kasi pinagkakaguluhan ng aming profs ang validity ng thesis ko. kabebreak pa lang namin ng bf kong nasa Beda law. our business was on the verge of bankruptcy. and may sakit ang mom ko. in short, mega-depressed ako.
and then came the results of the oral interview. sabi ng isang UP law grad na officemate ng dad ko, fate ko raw yun kasi talagang bihira ang tinatawag. hehehe "calling" in short :D
so the rest is history. kahit araw-araw e demoralized ako, di ko nireregret. i still do not know the reason why i'm here. maybe it's a finer version of *** because i want to take masters in crim law someday. yes, it's also about helping people. i hate injustice. madaling kumulo ang dugo ko sa everyday injustices na naeexperience ko at ng ibang tao. totoo. walang halong biro. to the point na twice i almost risked my life for it. but that's another story.
i may not be able to put it in words but i know there is a reason. and i will stay in law kahit gano kahirap just to have that reason manifest itself to me in black and white. :bashful:

some people take up law to aspire a political ambition others it would help to get promoted, like my friend who works in a goverment agency. but taking up law has some business sense you learn how to read contracts, you can make money out of it if you know the loop holes of the law, other things like to be a law enforcer like in N.B.I they require a lawyer or a CPA. if you are a policeman it promotes you to a higher rank. but being a CPA lawyer has bigger advantages.

I want to take up law in college.
I want to be a politician someday.
But given the kind of politicians we have today, and the horrible image of our government, would it be in my best interest to pursue law, knowing that my primary goal is to become a politician? then of course, help our country.

you don't need to imitate these so called trapos that were having today. everyone of us has it's own stance on what we believe in, if you want to change our political system by taking up Law so be it. but there are a lot of obstacles before you can change this country with the kind of bureaucracy that we have.

ambition is what most of the students drove them to take up law. I myself, aspired for it when I was in grade 3 and after 2 years of bumming around, I decided to pursue it... and it's a half baked decision. :bop:
although, I am not totally happy right now because of the pressures and hardships from my law professors and as well as with my full-time corporate employment... somehow still, I keep on going... Why?
I still don't know... :depressed:
