hi guys. help me naman to decide. im confused kung anong pipiliin ko next year.
its really a toss between a law course or MBA. kasi im planning to study next year. ano ba ang mas maganda? well, i know na mas maganda ang law pero nagdadalawang isip ako, maganda lang naman ang LAW pag pumasa ka sa bar exam.
my mom is suggesting na MBA na lang, kasi sa 2 years lang unlike law 4 yrs + may bar exam. normally ba, ang ang nangyayari kapag may MBA ka na?
thanks. i really need help with this one.

Well, five years from now, how do you envision yourself to be? Follow your heart. Focus your energy on an endeavor that you would enjoy doing even if you're 45.

i suggest you should know first what you really want - your long-term goals and your short-term plans, including your priorities.
law school is a really different world. for us in the working class in UP Law, we are always embattled with the thought that though our curriculum and our profs are more or less lenient on us, (the study of) law is a jealous mistress that demands time, (extra) effort and focus. sabi nga ni elle woods (legally blonde), the study of law requires passion. your passion to stay in something that demoralizes you every single day of your life, depletes you of your social life, extinguishes every remaining functioning sane brain cell, and has you questioning your purpose (YES! You have to have a purpose! Not necessarily a specific one but at least legitimate in the sense that "maganda kasi ang law" could not just qualify) for staying in a law school when all of your colleagues are very, very much successful already.
think about it. that's coming from a law student's point of view. i'm telling you, it's just my first year, first sem. and i'm already burnt out. but i'm holding on. my purpose is not yet clear. but i know there's something why i'm still here. =)

In some school, you need to have atleast 2 years of work experience to be accepted in the MBA program. So 4 years din. Why consider LAW if youre not even confident enough to pass the bar?

In considering your graduate program you have to consider the following factors:
1. ) What you really want and how you envision yourself.
If you think you want to be a lawyer- take law
If you think you want to specialize on certain discourses - take up MS, MBA, MA
2. ) Nature of Difficulty
LAW
If you think that you up to speed reading and memorizing
Masters
If you think you could analyze disourses and have the skill for Research (both qualitative and quantitative)
3. ) finances

hi guys. im really confused though i really appreciate your responses.
there is something in me na parang gusto ko talaga mag-LAW. im working na by now and if ever, working student by next year. hindi naman ako ganun ka-talino, hindi rin ako laging nasa honor. but i believe na makukuha naman yang LAW sa pagtitiyaga at pag-aaral. (whew! madaling sabihin pero NAPAKAHIRAP gawin!).
and as for MBA, i really don't know, ano ba ang nangyayari sa mga may MBA degree na.
honestly, my purpose is to be successful. a successful career. (to have more money:?:). hindi ako nagpapakaipokrito, pero that's one of the reason.
mas risky ang LAW yet once you passed the bar exam, mas maraming opportunity ang mag-oopen one step lang, sa labas ng pintuan, andiyan. and for MBA, ganun din ba siya ka-demanding?
thanks, im just really confused being true na rin. i really need help kasi im running out of time.
(nga pala, pedeng i-waive ang 2 years work experience sa beda). im planning to study sa beda, yun nga lang, i dont know yet kung MBA or LAW?
thanks guys!

BadGiRL is right. If you are really undecided and would want MBA and Law combined, take up the MBA-LAW program offered by DLSU, their venue for this is in RCBC Tower in Makati.
As for what to choose, all I can say is if you wanna take up Law, you gotta have passion for it. I mean it is 4 years of grueling study, excluding your review and the bar exams. Hindi lang kasi sya puro aral e o makukuha sa sipag mag aral. Realistically, you gotta have discipline. Everynight you'd be faced with 200+ pages of reading assignments for each subject, e pano kung 3 subjects ka next day? Also, for me lang ha, law school is just for formality. Don't get too intimidated that you have to do well or get high grades. The most important thing is to have a good framework for storing A LOT of facts, details, usual laws that are asked in the bar, and cases. Coz what you're really preparing for is the bar exams. Law school won't make you a lawyer, it's all up with the result of your bar exam.
As for MBA, nowadays, it serves as just a decoration, unlike before when you say you have an MBA degree it means you're really skilled and experience in the corporate world. Ideally, you should have at least 5 years or more work experience before getting an MBA to appreciate the study.
Oh sheesh, don't I mean don't go and psyche yourself to go to San Beda. If possible and if you have other choices, try those our first. This is one of the best advice you can get. I am currently on LOA and studying in San Beda. Boy was I frustrated. This is just for me ah, to give you an insight of what you might get yourself into. San Beda is a great law school, probably one of the best, coz what they can teach you is really discipline. However, there are a lot of downsides. One, San Beda operates in a pyramid kind of selection (and this was one important fact that I wasn't able to know). It's easy to get into San Beda, but it's hard to get retained. Damn, it's hard to get good grades as well even if you'd study your a$$ off. Second, there is no transparency when it comes to grades (that was the frustrating part for me, even if I got retained, I got turned off coz you wouldn't have any idea of what your grade is in the first sem, and you'd just be getting all them during the enrollment period for the following school year). Professors do not show you the computation of your grade (with the exception of a few say 2), and this is the basis for their elimination. You have no way of knowing why you got a final grade of 58, even if you know you did well during your recitations, and you got an 81 with your finals exam.
I don't mean to scare you or discourage you, but if you're really decided to go to Beda, then go for it! :)
If you do get in, in Beda, message mo ako dito, I can give you some questions/tests and can give you an insight about what you have to do/how to perform with this Prof, you'll gonna need that, trust me.
Well that's it for now. Good Luck!

Suggestion ko is mag MBA ka na lang. Mas madali kang mapromote as manager. Di ba yun naman ang gusto mo- to be successful and have lots of money. When i was looking for a job in IT, i always ask my interviewer (division managers most of the time) whether i can take MS while working, tapos magkukuwento sila ng past nila, puro MBA ang mga ungas.
Naalala mo ba yung sinabi ni Roco kay Miriam nung Erap impeachment. Basta something about Law being a calling and you need to serve the people blah blah. Wag ka raw mag law kung pera lang habol mo.
Or you could use a sign from God/fate/destiny/etc.. . Take UP LAE. Mahirap daw ipasa yun e. If you pass, then go for it.

before ako mag graduate ng college, pinag isipan ko rin kung MBA or LAw ang kukunin ko. i even took some Business-related undergrad units coz my undergrad's an unrelated course..what i did was, i worked first for almost 3 yrs, just to feel the 'environment' and to see for myself if it's really what i like. i like the 'business world', no doubt, but when i got married and stayed home caring for the baby, i got interested again in Law. i pestered my Law student-friends about it and read my father's books (he's a lawyer). and now, i'm a Law student..
weight your pros and cons..your passion..sa dami ng babasahin mong mga kaso sobrang kailangan mo ng passion, determination and discipline..
