i suggest you go get the v200 (Muvo Chameleon, comes in a box, 1g) for 9k @ electroworld. I got mine when i sold my ipod last week coz i plan to buy a digicam but can't live without mp3. I took the v200 version since it can also act as a thumb drive where i can use it to transfer other files from here to there. Also great sound quality. A better alternative than the ipod shuffle especially if you own a pc.

OT: I'm really curious why people buy Apple's flash mp3 when they own a pc. Doesn't make sense. Apple created the Shuffle for mac users since most flash mp3's out there are for Windows only. Siguro naki-ki uso?

Creative Zen Micro 5G MP3 player

2,500 songs. 5GB capacity
The size of your player shouldn't compromise the thousands of songs you want to listen to. ZEN MICRO's incredibly tiny size holds up to 2,500 songs, that's a whole weeks worth of music to enjoy and never hear the same song twice.

And, with USB 2.0, you'll be able to transfer songs in a flash, spending less time at your computer and more time enraptured in your music.

Micro sized
Only 3.3" high, this micro sized player stands tall against any other player. In such a tiny space we have filled it with everything you'd want in an MP3 player and more!

Curved to fit
ZEN MICRO's contoured shape feels great when you hold it in your hand, scrolling through thousands of your favorite songs. The smooth round edges also let it slip effortlessly into your pocket. However, its stunning looks will probably make you want to keep it out where everyone can see it.

Captivating design
ZEN MICRO, trimmed with a luminescent blue glow and back-lit buttons, boasts the most imaginative design of an MP3 player to date.

10 electrifying colors
When it comes to choice, the only difficult decision you need to make is which of the 10 electrifying colors suits your lifestyle. With such a kaleidoscope of colors, what color will you choose?

Up to 12 hour battery life
There is enough battery life in ZEN MICRO to keep you dancing from dusk till dawn and still be listening to tunes during the morning commute. But don't let the music stop there!

Removable, rechargeable battery
ZEN MICRO's removable battery is easy to swap with another fully charged battery, there's no need to hang around waiting for your player to charge. Now you truly have the battery juice to get loose.

FM radio to listen to and record
Not that you will ever get tired of your 5GB music library when it can hold 2,500 songs. But, if you find yourself in the mood for radio, simply tune in with the ZEN MICRO's built-in FM radio. Set up to 32 station presets so you can catch up on the latest sports results, listen to your favorite talk show, or navigate your way out of traffic congestions. Your ZEN MICRO will even record your favorite radio shows, so you can listen to and enjoy them later.

Built-in voice recorder
There's also a built-in microphone for up to 10 hours of voice recording. Ideal for taking notes, recording lectures and remembering those inspirations you'll have as you hear the clarity of the MP3 and WMA music you've stored on ZEN MICRO.

Vertical touch pad
No more going round in circles to find the song you want, we all know that the quickest distance between two points is a straight line. ZEN MICRO's vertical touch pad and touch sensitive controls are designed to be intuitive so that searching through songs or playlists is easy, quick and fun - try taking a cruise down this strip.

Removable Disk
Store and transfer not only your favorite tunes, but important data files as well. Zen Micro's Removable Disk mode lets you connect your player to the computer and directly copy the files you need.

Get organized
When you're having so much fun with your ZEN MICRO, it's easy to lose track of time or even days. One of ZEN MICRO's handy features is its personal organizer. You'll never forget about those all important anniversaries with the "calendar," plus a "to do" list and "contacts" list, all syncing seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook.

Wake to your favorite tunes
You'll have no excuses of being late for that interview, important meeting or your early lecture. The ZEN MICRO has a sleep timer and alarm - so now you can drift off to sleep on those warm weekends to your very own playlist of easy listening tunes, and wake up to some classic rock and roll.

Customize your UI
We know everyone has different preferences; ZEN MICRO lets you customize the main menu so that you can have the features YOU want right there at your fingertips, where they are easy to find.

Shuffle to a different tune
Be your own DJ and take "shuffle" to a new level. ZEN MICRO's DJ feature gives you more than the standard shuffle found in other MP3 players. Not only will ZEN MICRO randomly shuffle through all your music, but now you can listen to all your most popular tracks, or tracks you rarely hear. Or let your ZEN MICRO randomly select an album of the day for you to enjoy.

Highest audio quality of any MP3 player
Creative MP3 players are renowned for their superior audio quality, and the ZEN MICRO is no exception. With an outstanding industry leading 98dB signal to noise ratio, you can achieve audio bliss with clarity as good as expensive hi-fi systems. That coupled with high fidelity earphones with dynamic bass response, the ZEN MICRO not only sets a new standard for sheer style, but for unmatched audio perfection.

nope(nano=.27",zen micro=.7") but its has lots of features compared to that fragile nano. fm stereo w/ fm recording, removable/rechargeable battery, supports wma & mp3,no need for iTunes(that intalls QT) :)

i really like the design and size of nano, but it requires iTunes, which i cant install in the office pc, and as far as i know you cant just copy mp3 from diff. pc. is it true that when you connect your ipod with other pc with itunes, it will delete all your mp3?

True. A marketing ploy capitalized to the max! Ipod has won over all its competitors by maintaining and sustaining the "coolness factor". It is cool to own an ipod over any other brand/model. Although in terms of functionality the same can be had with other models for a fraction of the cost.

i got one in DAY 1 (you can scroll in this thread (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227748&page=2) above for size comparisons of the 3 ipods i got). i've RMA'd it after 2 weeks. the LCD shows signs of breaking even without using it while I'm mobile.the 2nd one I got, I charged it using an AC adapter from my U2 iPod, the lower part of the LCD just turned black. so I RMA'd it back, again. the 3rd one is still in the box though i'm afraid that it'll break itself while inside that box.

well i bought it coz of relability and ease of use, not because of the name nor the "cool" factor of the ipod. compared to iriver or any of those clones.

this is not about iPods. Stop talking about them.

Creative daps are not the most reliable from what I read in these forums: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board?board.id=dap

common problems (for the micro at least) include:
headphone jack static/distortion
poor batt life
dust in the screen (subjective)
sensitive touch strip
not plug and play.

royalflashes is right. came up with the same conclusions when i was shopping around for an MP3 player. truth to tell, i was leaning towards the Creative Zen Micro or the Zen 20gb.

before buying, gave the local Creative technical support people a call. said they have to send defective units to Singapore for repair. but he said he hasnt encountered any defective unit (yeah right). on the other hand, i do know some people who are satisfied with the Creative players.

in the end, i decided on the Ipod because of the strong technical support locally. para sure.

Nov 20, 2005, 01:10 PM
Before we go anywhere else with all the bickering, my two cents...

I own a Zen Micro, albeit the 4G one. I've had it since early this year and I'm quite satisfied with it. Pluses are it plays WMA's, has an FM radio, can be used as a storage device, and has a lot of inclusions in the package. The 5G one comes with a wired remote (dunno if in the Philippine market if it does). Minuses would be the scroll buttons are really sensitive even if at the lowest setting; and the FM radio can rarely pick-up any signal indoors, if at all, and the Jukebox is a bit crappy compared to iTunes.

Oh I almost forgot another plus, the tech support is really helpful. In my case, my player "whited-out" a few days ago. I emailed tech support regarding my problem; I'm still under warranty, but I lost my receipt. The guy who answered my mail told me that I needed to update my firmware, and listed out the steps to fix the problem. Twas quite easy to follow, and I'm one satisfied customer. I don't regret buying my Zen Micro. HTH :D

how's the quality of the scroll button? when i played with a friend's zen micro, the scroll wheel is so unresponsive. i have to press really hard to get the zen micro to respond.

then i got a chance to play with a zen micro at Avant, and it was so sensitive that it moves at the slightest touch. what's up with that?

to zen micro owners, what's your experience with the touch buttons?

Naghahang siya pero very seldom. 128 kbps ginagamit ko and naka-OFF yung EAX Sound Enhancements. Sobrang hina talaga ng battery ko. Hindi rin nakamax ang volume kapag ginagamit ko (moderate lang). Kaya I think kailangan nang ma-replace ang battery.

Nomad Jukebox Zen 20GB yung akin. Monochrome pa yung LCD niya. Superb player. Yung battery lang yung problema nung unit ko (na dala na rin siguro ng tagal ng panahon).

I used to go for Creative mp3 players. Had the Muvo, then the Muvo V200 1GB. But I switched to the iPod for one simple reason. No, not the sound quality -- hardly any difference (to my ears, I'm admittedly not an audiophile); not the "ease of use" factor (I'm a techno-geek, so what's difficult for others is normally easy for me); and definitely not the brand (I don't buy MP3 players to display it to the world, lest I get mugged). I got the iPod simply because there are more accessories designed for the iPod than any other MP3 player.

One thing to think about when getting non-iPod MP3 players: it's a b|tch looking for accessories that'll work with it. That's the sole reason I got an iPod. I didn't have to search high and low for an accessory for it. But if Creative (or any other company) had the same breadth and depth of accessories that the iPod has, I'd switch brands faster than you can say "the iPod's an overpriced toy."

It's thicker than the video i-pod. Supposedly it easily gets scratches and smudges so you'll need a protective case. If it's sold cheaper than the 30 gig video i-pod, I'd probably buy it.

I like the black version.

I already have this player, pero pinaorder ko pa sa isang kaoffice mate ko who went to the US recently. It's really a great device. The screen is undoubtedly better than Ipod's and yung videos, grabe astig. And you don't have to do all those time wasting conversions that you usually do w/ your Ipods just to watch them on your gadget. Overall, I'm glad I bought this player. Be patient though, kasi wala pa masyadong accesories na available. This is, as what others have already said, an Ipod-killer!

Yung battery life ayus lang. I can watch videos at around 4hrs... I heard Ipod is only 1.5 hrs. I just bought it for around 17 thou lang, mas mura pa dun kasi sa Villman I think nasa 20T na sya. Pero bumaba na sya dun, nasa 15t na yata to compete with the Ipod. Pero if binenta sya dito, baka starting nya talaga is 20T. :( mahal...

Where can I purchase creative zen micro photo? I really would want one since my iPod mini broke. Without a reason. It just suddenly DIED on me one day. Iyan ang talagang masarap ibato, hindi ba?! So I'm looking at the other mp3 players, and the creative zen micro photo sounds great! 8GB pa siya for the same price as the iPod nano which is only 4GB. I bought my black Zen Vision:M 30GB last Monday and I'm loving it! Yesterday I watched 3 episodes of House MD (approx 45mins each) and was playing mp3s the rest of the day, so it was around 10hours worth of battery life for mine. It's user friendly, and yes, you can adjust the sensitivity but I'm quite getting the hang of "slide-then-tap" technique with the scroll.

It has a recording feature na sobrang ok, very clear. The software that came with it is user friendly. And it supports a lot more file formats than the iPod. The sound quality is superb. The video capabilities? Astig! It has actually more colors than the iPod.

It's 19,999 at Automatic Center in G4, but I used my BPI mastercard so there's a 1% rebate. it's 0% installment for 12 months so it's all good :)

Aug 7, 2006, 02:02 PM
I have the Zen Neeon 6gb, bought in Japan. For some odd reason, the only models I've seen here are the 5 gb ones. Lots of stores in the SM North Carpark carry the 5 gb model with an average price of around 8,000 PhP.

Personally, I've very satisfied with the Zen Neeon. It's small and light, and has a bunch of features not found in other players like an FM radio/recorder with 32 presets, direct line-in recording, and a voice recorder (no more need for a tape recorder to transcribe audio). Battery life is good, it's rated at 16 hours for 64 kbps WMA (it's probably shorter for higher-bitrate MP3s but I use my player intermittently so I can't really quantify it for continuous playing). I guess the only drawback is a more difficult browsing system compared to other players, since the Neeon only has a single scroll switch. However, if you use playlists or just random shuffle the folders (like I do), it shouldn't be much of a bother.

The Zen Neeon has a specific charger for it. The manual advises avoiding the use of any other charger because it might damage your player. However if I had to choose an 'unofficial' external charger, it should be one that falls within the USB specs (max of 5 volts at 500 mA per USB port).

Aug 9, 2006, 01:55 AM
escadasport, sorry dunno where to find 'generic' USB chargers like the one pictured above. I may pass by Raon sometime, I'll tell you if I spot any. Personally, I feel that these kinds of chargers are safe for any USB-charging device since they're probably designed to have the same characteristics as your typical USB port minus the data transfer part. To be safe, you can easily measure the voltage output of the charger using a multimeter; it should not exceed 5 volts.

preferred ko ang mga creative mp3 players that uses AAA batteries. simple lang ang reason. mura lang naman ang rechargeable batteries na AAA including their chargers. kapag nasira kasi ang built-in lithium batteries e medyo mahal (katulad ng mga nasa Ipods).

another reason why I like Creatives is that they don't need any software to load the mp3's (unlike the Ipod na kailangan pa ng ITunes).

in terms of durability with the Ipod, pareho lang. in terms of price, a bit cheaper din ang Creative.

yun nga lang kaunti ang accessories sa creative. pero kung resourceful ka, pagawa ka na lang (tulad ng mga mp3 socks or armbands, etc.)

i really like the design and size of nano, but it requires iTunes, which i cant install in the office pc, and as far as i know you cant just copy mp3 from diff. pc. is it true that when you connect your ipod with other pc with itunes, it will delete all your mp3?
this will only happen pag naka automatic update ang music mo. you should choose to "manually update music" to prevent erasure of the songs on the ipod.
