SM Supermalls, the leading mall developer in the country, opens its 20th SM Supermall -- the SM City San Lazaro on July 15. Located at the site of the former San Lazaro Hippodrome (before it transferred to its present site in Carmona, Cavite), SM City San Lazaro occupies 40,000 square meters with a total floor area of 177,000 square meters spread out to three upper floors and a lower ground floor. This is the first SM supermall to be opened this year. Other malls to be opened include those in Valenzuela, Molino (Bacoor, Cavite) and the much-awaited Mall of Asia at the Reclamation Center in Baclaran.

SM City San Lazaro is located along Felix Huertas cor A.H. Lacson St. in Sta. Cruz, Manila. If you're coming from the LRT1, board off at Tayuman. Walk along Tayuman street in the direction heading EAST. You know you're heading EAST coming from the Tayuman LRT station if you'll pass by Espiritu Santo Church, Chowking, Oroquieta St., Catholic Trade and other religious articles stores, Metrobank, then Felix Huertas St. where you will see the new SM City. If you're coming from the LRT1 and you walked towards the direction of Jollibee and BPI, you're heading toward the wrong direction.

Private cars can take the Rizal Avenue route and turn right at Tayuman or Yuseco St. (formerly Tayabas St.) if you're coming from Sta. Cruz, and CM Recto. Turn left at Yuseco or S. Herrera Sts. (these are the 2 streets before you reach Tayuman) if you're coming from Blumentritt, Grace Park, and Monumento. You can't turn left at Tayuman St.

Other jeepneys going to SM City San Lazaro include those plying the Tayuman-Pritil route which starts at SM City all the way up to Pure Gold at the corner of Tayuman and Juan Luna Sts. in Tondo. There's also the Tayuman-Lardizabal jeepneys (which should be very familiar to UST students) since it passes through A.H. Lacson St. (formerly A. Mendoza and Gov. Forbes St.).

SM City San Lazaro has the usual tenant mix of SM Dept. Store, SM Supermart, Ace Hardware, National Bookstore, Bench, Pizza Hut, Jollibee, and more. There are 6 movie theaters. Too bad there's no bowling alley or skating rink here. There are over 1000 parking slots available in the covered parking building.

See you all here soon. Stopover ko 'to!

PS. I'm not working for SM but I'd like to promote this mall. Finally and I still can't believe it that an SM mall is almost a next door neighbor to my home.

Whew, I've been there yesterday afternoon. Grabe - the crowd is unbelievable. Almost all the food establishments had full standing room crowds waiting to be seated. Nina's concert was well attended.

I was surprised to find a Go Nuts Donuts store here - right near the main entrance. Beside it is a Starbucks store still under construction. Look at the full page ad of SM City San Lazaro in today's issue of the Philippine Star to find out the other establishments that have located here as well.

Cookie_Mobster As a long time resident of the area, I think it's quite unfair to judge the place around the vicinity of SM City San Lazaro to be full of Mandus and Magnas. My gosh - with the economic hardship we are experiencing right now under the Arroyo administration, YOU can find undesirbable elements of our society EVERYWHERE. I'll never forget the sad incident that happened to a good friend who was mugged while waiting for a taxi right in front of the Megastrip of Megamall. Even another friend was mugged while hailing a cab right in front of Greenbelt. Now, just because the houses near the vicinity of SM San Lazaro may not be pleasing to your discriminating tastes, I think it's unfair to judge the people of Sta. Cruz as such. That is definitely uncalled for. *peace*

I was here yesterday and had dinner at Congo Grille...Parokya ni Edgar was there! Nagpapicture pa cousin ko with Chito! :)

Anyway, sobrang bagal ng service ng Congo Grille. Hopefully they'll improve na next time.

So far, mukhang okay naman yung mall! :)

hello there!

sana meet tayo one of these days sa SM San Lazaro. :)

The size is not that large. Just 3 floors of stores plus the underground floor with the fastfood area and smaller stores.

But it certainly is larger than SM Centerpoint or SM Manila in terms of floor area.

^^Cookie_mobster Kindly accept my apology for my uncontrolled temper in my last post in reaction to your previous post. Admittedly, I was really hurt by the tag regarding the environment surrounding the area.

vogriphach Yeah, SM San Lazaro is not that large - not even as large as Building A OR B of Megamall but it is indeed larger than SM Manila. I read in a previous press release that SM San Lazaro is as big as SM Cebu.

Faustina Thanks for concurring. Sta. Cruz may not be an Ayala Alabang or a Valle Verde but I think there are real, honest, and peace loving people who live here as well.

VISION_OF_LOVE Oops.. sorry for the political slant. I guess my belief regarding the issues hounding every Filipino these days "suddenly" showed up without thinking that it might offend others. But, I still stand by my opinion - I'm pro-resignation (asap please!) but I respect your opinion on this issue.

caryatid_kitten Traffic is indeed a nightmare now along Felix Huertas st. The once peaceful street most of the day has been a source of gridlocks from time to time throughout the day. I won't be surprised if suddenly an overpass would spring up along Felix Huertas St. to accomodate pedestrians crossing Felix Huertas to reach SM. Who would have thought that an overpass would be necessary here someday?

Sunday was still way crowded at SM San Lazaro. While going down on the escalator from Level 3, you could see the sea of humanity in all the floors up to the lower ground level. Grabe - SM scored a big hit with this mall.

I'm just surprised though: why hasn't Super Bench opened yet in time for the mall's opening? Where in the world are Delifrance and French Baker - 2 SM mall staple tenants who are conspicuously absent in this mall? I saw in their recent ad that Max's and Yellow Cab are tenants here as well but where are they? Why is Smart not present here while Globe has a forthcoming store here?

talipandas9
Jul 19, 2005, 11:49 AM
An added thought: with the enormous crowds during the weekend, I wonder what will be the situation when SM San Lazaro holds its first 3 day mallwide sale? What more when Christmas shopping season finally comes? Geez...

Most of the restaurants get crowded easily because their stall spaces are quite small compared to restaurants in other SM malls or even non-SM malls? Chowking, Jollibee, etc. have very small spaces.

I went there on Sunday and it was really crowded. I mean, it's so crowded that I didn't bother to check out the 2nd and 3rd level. I just went home. This morning 11am, when I went there, the crowd have died down. Actually, there were barely any people walking around, just college kids eating in fastfood joints.

One good thing about this place though, they have the nearest gonuts branch around, and it's near the entrance.

yun mga ibang shops like Max's, Kenny Rogers and others ay sa August 15 pa magbubukas while other shops ay by the end of July pa magbubukas.

:)

I share the same question on the absence of Delifrance and French Baker in SM San Lazaro to think that almost all SMs have them as regular tenants. What gives?

Regarding your off topic, gosh, start na ng SM 3-day mallwide sale cycle. I noticed that it usuall starts with SM North EDSA (the first and original SM supermall opened in 1985) and ends at Megamall on the weekend before All Saints Day. Favorite ko pa naman ang North EDSA kahit na I have to take an LRT ride to Monumento and then a bus ride to North EDSA but I think I have to pass up on this one kasi kapitbahay na nga yung San Lazaro. Sayang nga lang - walang Esprit, Marks and Spencer, Nokia store, and others doon sa San Lazaro.

I wonder when will SM San Lazaro have its 3 day mallwide sale? For sure, super chaotic ang traffic but at least this time, I don't have to worry about finding a ride home.

Hahahahaha ka rin :rotflmao: Obviously, the opening day excitement and curiosity has died down already but it doesn't mean that SM doesn't have any customers on lean days (weekdays). Weekends are still crowded and I could imagine already the crowd that will go during its first ever 3-day mallwide sale.

I am just a few blocks away from this place. Though one cool thing that I like here is that there is a videoke place wherein you'll just rent the rooms. Not as so-si as red box but at least you can bring food and drinks inside.

What I don't like about this mall is when you get in, the stairs are in front of you but they put the escalators all the way to the end of the mall.

I don't think this mall will ever grow, hangang dito nalang ata to. The people who go there are students and people with no money, even so, mas konting tao pa dito kesa SM Manila.

ofngol
Dec 3, 2005, 01:16 PM
It won't grow (horizontally) as they've already occupied their four hectares of land within the 16-ha. San Lazaro Town Center. The rest will be for parks and an Ayala Land condominium complex (Avida Towers) and Townhouse Complex (Celadon Residences).
...and don't expect another mall in that complex since, AFAIK, it's stated in the contract bet. MJC and SM that no other malls will be built in the area.
