consult a derma. I had acne for years before, till i decided to stop trying to search a remedy on my own... I went to a dermatologist... after 2 months of medication... my acne's gone! :)

rafiosa's right, consult a derma. Tetracycline--or another broad spectrum antibiotic might work well for you. Good luck.

if you find a white puss oozzing out of your pimples.. its best to consult a dermatologist... maybe that white puss is already a "nana" and you should not take medications all by yourself..... a derma would be the appropriate one to take care of it..

dont just squeeze it.. it might get infected....

and if you are "out-of-budget" for a derma.. its better to use a mild soap or cetaphil and then apply benzac-AC or other generic anti-pimple... and not to forget always apply sunblock when you put some medications/astringents on your face..... its for you own good...

you need to get educated by a dermatologist before trying out OTC products and remedy the problem by yourself. KNOWLEDGE is the key, and a good doctor knows it all. don't take any chances of doing self medication. go to a derma, and that will answer your problem. good luck =)

Go to a derma, that will save you a lot of money in the long run. Had my bouts of pimples too, then a year and a half ago I finally went to a derma and she gave me this Miracle drug.

"Isotrex", active ingredient is isotretinoin. The same active ingredient as Accutane, but without the harsh, harsh side effects. I've been almost 97% pimple free ever since... Mga once in two months na lang or so..Minsan ***.

Ask your derma about Isotrex.

There are three components that must exist in order to get acne:
(1) improper shedding of dead skin cells causing buildup in the pore
(2) excess sebum (oil) production
(3) acne-causing bacteria called propionibacterium acnes that feeds on the dead skin cells and sebum causing inflammation

All 3 components MUST exist to cause acne. Therefore,
1 + 2 + 3 = ACNE

Acne medications, whether they are over-the-counter or prescribed, target at least one of these components.

For the dead skin cells, exfoliation is key. Some medications that target this component are medications that contain BHA (such as salicylic acid), AHA (such as glycolic acid), tretinoin (retin-a), etc. You can use manual exfoliation such as scrubs but they are not as effective as BHAs, AHAs, or tretinoin.

For the acne bacteria component, the most popular OTC would be benzoyl peroxide. Another good alternative would be Tea Tree Oil. They are both effective in killing the acne bacteria. Prescription-wise, antibiotics such as tetracycline, minocycline, etc. are used to kill the acne bacteria.

For the sebum production component, there is really no effective way to handle it since it is mostly due to hormones, although some people say that taking zinc supplements will reduce it.

Anyway, the only medication that tackles all three components would be Accutane, which is a powerful oral medication that has serious side effects such as liver damage, etc. You can only get your hands to it with a prescription from a doctor (real dermatologists with medical/doctoral degrees -- not someone who does facials).

Consult a derma, it will save you money in the long run.

Don't buy from sellers claiming that they offer the same products as the dermas. They may have the same ingredients but the concentration is different.

Furthermore, the dermas, specially those who are members of the PDS studied for years to be specialists. What about those sellers? They are just after your money.

Consult a dermatologist instead of trying out products which worked well with other people, you're not sure if these will work for you too. I've had an on and off battle with acne and I recently tried a new derma. She's good and my acne is clearing up now. She's Charleen Santos-Banaya of St. Luke's. Her consultation fee is P500.

Never pop a pimple by yourself. It might just become a permanent scar. Go see a derma, but not just any derma; she/he has got to have a clinic in a major hospital, not an ordinary office building or any old kanto.

Suggestions that worked well for me and some of my friends:

a. 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, to avoid darkening, apply only on the affected areas and use Clearasil afterwards.

b. Acid Peeling - using Tretinoin + Hydroquinone (below 2%) - beware of this, overuse of Tretinoin and Hydroquinone may permanently peel off your skin, leaving white and dark spots all over the face that is untreatable daw. If your skin is very sensitive, use Lactacyd (the blue one, not the vaginal antiseptic but the dermatological antiseptic). You can also use sour milk and calamansi, or salicylic acid kaya lang medyo matagal ang results.

c. Proactiv - 3 Step kaya lang medyo nga may kamahalan.

d. Do not use facial scrubs, it will bring pressure to your face and thus giving more possibilities in forming open or closed comedones.

e. Drink Vitamin C.

f. Use Nivea Visage - for me this product works well.

REMEMBER: These things are just my suggestions, for a more accurate and safe treatment, ask a dermatologist.
