ok ba ASUS brand in general? may service center ba yun sa pinas? We have two units of ASUS A1200 that has been running and taking punishment for SIX years and counting. ASUS is the king of the motherboards and also manufactures its own and other brands' laptops. Service Center (http://www.banbros.ph/t_support.html) is along Tindalo Street near the corner of Pasong Tamo.

^Wala ata, not sure though. The m1210 is a nice little laptop, with a comfortable keyboard and built-in camera.
I've never used one for a very long period of time though, so I can't really comment on the laptop's long term performance.
thanks for the info. i've read many reviews kasi praising the capability and great performance of this notebook. big plus yung dedicated graphics card niyang nvidia go 7400 for some excellent gaming experience.

TeQuiLa.cHiQ: It's nice, except for the graphics card. What I'd suggest is that you physically visit a laptop store and see the difference between integrated graphics (Intel) and dedicated graphics (Ati Radeon or Nvidia). If you don't mind the difference, then please go ahead and buy this laptop.
Me, I use one laptop with an integrated graphics chip, and another laptop with dedicated graphics. Between the two, I prefer dedicated graphics. Images and video are crisper and cleaner. It's just a lot easier on the eyes. This is my personal preferrence though, you might think differently.
Thanks smilewarrior! :) I'll go ahead and check it out tomorrow..
Also, do you know what laptop brands offer dedicated graphics? Among those, which is the nicest? Sorry I have so much questions.. I'm just very familiar with all those tech stuff. Thanks!

dWitch, sadirmata: you're welcome, good luck.
TeQuiLa.cHiQ: You're in New York?
All laptop brands have either dedicated graphics or integrated graphics chip. It depends on the model and it depends on what the manufacturer puts inside it.
Before buying a laptop, it's okay to ask for the technical specifications of the laptop.
If you have a family member or a trusted friend who is knowledgeable with laptops, you can ask him or her to accompany you when you purchase the laptop, so that at least you know you'll get the most for your money.
If you're not in a hurry ( like if you can afford to wait for a month) you can actually purchase a laptop directly from US laptop manufacturers like HP, Dell and Toshiba. All you need is a US Credit Card. You can configure a laptop online (meaning the laptop will be assembled as per your indicated specifications) at these manufacturer's respective websites, this way you're sure you'll really get the laptop with the specifications you want. It may actually come out cheaper.
You can ask a friend to help you.
If I'm not mistaken, pre-built (meaning already assembled, not something you can configure yourself) laptops go on sale in New York after Thanksgiving or during Christmas (please correct me if I am wrong). If you can wait a bit, you'll be able to save a lot. It's up to you.
Good luck.

Yeah, from NYC. :)
I guess i'll probably check out their stuff in their own websites and see if I can go ahead and customized my laptop with them. I need the assistance of a friend though since i'm not too familiar with all those techie stuff. Hehehe!
You're right though about the day after Thanksgiving sale.. it's called Black Friday! :) It marks the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season and stores usually gives out HUGE sale offers. So i'll probably wait or so.. I need to get my cousin's laptop soon though since she needs it by September. Anyway, thanks for all the help! You're the best! ;)

If you are in the US, http://www.apple.com has available payment plans.
I have to apply for a BPI or E-PCI credit card kasi walang 0% ang Mac retailers for Citibank cards. Dyahe. I thought better kung branded ang credit card. Hindi pala. Haaay life. Hintay pa ako ng isang buwan nito.

hi! Thanks sa mga tumulong sakin to decide on my 2nd laptop. I finally bought an HP pavillion laptop, good thing, sinunod ko yung 2 gb ram, coz memory hog talaga yung vista. Thank you din for looking at the graphics, nvidia g-force 7400 *** sya *** ginrab ko na. Bought mine for 469 dinars or $1618. God is good talaga. Thank God.

^jayR, you could try bringing your laptop to a computer shop and have them assess whether you can upgrade the hard drive.
You may also want to join tipidpc.com. You'll be able to get advice from a lot of computer enthusiasts and computer resellers there.
You also have the option of selling your old laptop and buying either a new desktop or another laptop (whichever is more suitable for you).
Good luck.

I'm very partial to Lenovo/IBM laptops as well.
A piece of advise though when getting ThinkPads, always go for either the T or X series. Anything else is garbage. Okay fine that's an exaggeration. But I won't mention the reasons anymore.
For those who might be asking for credibility, yeah I'm an IBMer.
i own T43, so far no regret IBM has good tech support this is the second reason why i opted for IBM. i like the fingerprint logon, no need to hide to type your password in front of people. it's very light and the size is just right to move around or lug in a backpack. i like the switch in the mini dock to turn it on before opening the lid. I have just one complain to this laptop... how to open the lid with one hand while holding a can of beer on the other?

IBM has since sold its computer arm to Lenovo, who now produces the ThinkPads. Look for Lenovo, not IBM, services.

For your budget, the CQ-40 is already enough. But if you can add an additional 9k (mall price), you can already get the 12 inch size of that model. Same with Acer, they already have the Aspire 2930z at around that price range.

Thank you for your response. Is the 12 inch model also come with an AMD processor? Tapos one more favor, I'm not really the techie type. Im not into online gaming like warcraft and the likes. I'm more of a blogger and I like to download files like language coursebooks online so a bigger HDD would be better. I know that the CQ-40 has a 320GB HDD. How about Aspire 2930z. Is it true that with the Compaq Presario CQ40 AMD heat builds up easily as compared to those with intel processors? I am not sure about this but I have heard of it from a friend.
The 12" Acer is more portable than the Compaq CQ40 ata, so you may want to consider that too.

I don't think that's true, considering AMD processors. The CQ40's processor is at par with the ACER laptop vproject mentioned. If you're always on-the-go. I suggest buying the ACER laptop because it is lighter than the CQ40.

Honestly, I like Acer's features better especially its bigger HDD than HP. But I am hesitant since I've heard a lot of negative comments about this brand. My cousin who works in IT prefers HP. I know that some prefer one version, others prefer another. With Acer it has great value for money in my opinion. I'm no expert, that's why I'm wondering which brand should I go to.

At that price, many laptops include a licensed version of Windows (usually some low end variant of Vista), but you shouldn't expect MS Office. Licenses for MS Office are just too expensive to be included in laptops at that price.

if you have the money then go buy a mac, you said you're going to use it for business, work and gaming, just make sure the applications you need have compatible version with the mac OS, unless you intend to do bootcamp. with the asus and it's OS, you'll save money because it's cheaper, you'll get better specs and wider library of applications and games. update us on your decision, goodluck.

@Blue-ray
The Mac you customized is still not powerful enough to be used as a gaming machine. The Macbook you customized only has 5400rpm HDD which is slow compared to the 7200rpm HDD of the one I suggested.
The RPM really makes a difference as you use your computer. The Macbook only has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256mb as a graphics card. That graphics card is only mediocre compared to the one I suggested.
You should see these videos to have an idea of how inferior the graphics card the customized Mac possesses to the NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS 512mb of the Asus G50VT-X5.
GTA IV on Asus G50VT-X5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwCP3lvfA4g)
Left 4 Dead on ASUS G50VT-X5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS6nGlcH-Yc)
Oblivion on Asus G50VT-X5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohEnWpYjwRE)
BTW, a Mac can't play these games because they're exclusive only to the Windows OS and also because it has a mediocre graphics GPU.
Hope this post can help with your decision :D
The True Cost (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD4QvuXSQL4):glee:
Mac has faster chip-speed, is lighter and has a longer battery life? I doubt that. The video also stated that Macs have higher resolution screen and also comes with a free Adobe Photoshop.. What a bunch of lies. Clearly, this video is biased towards Mac. If you ask any Apple store here in the Philippines if their Macs come with a free Photoshop, none of them will say "Yes". If you search through Google about the "higher resolution" that Apple promises their customers, you'll find a lot of hate articles/blogs about that certain issue.
One guy even said, "Once you go Mac, you never go back". If that's true, why do Mac users still use Bootcamp or Parallels on their Macs? Isn't that considered as going back to Windows? After all, you are using Windows only applications when you go bootcamp or parallels.

I think you should consider buying an Acer :D

@Blue-ray
One guy even said, "Once you go Mac, you never go back". If that's true, why do Mac users still use Bootcamp or Parallels on their Macs? Isn't that considered as going back to Windows? After all, you are using Windows only applications when you go bootcamp or parallels.
++ na lang yung gaming
dahil ako never talagang gumamit ng bootcamp

Yeah right. Keep on bragging. How powerful you're system are.
I can't still see why many people insist to smug what they have, that is if they have any?
:glee:

I didn't say that he plays those kind of games. Where did you get that idea? I simply posted those videos because I wanted him to get an idea on how great the graphics the G50VT-X5 has through high-end games. Of course, if the computer has great specs for gaming, it's also great for other uses because of its high performance. You're the one who is assuming so please stop accusing others.

FYI, Adobe products are Mac compatible now. I didn't expect a Mac user to not know that. All I said about Adobe Photoshop is that the video you posted claims that Apple includes Adobe Photoshop along with their Macs which is a lie.

Why even IT pros are demanding Macs (http://www.infoworld.com/d/mac/why-even-it-pros-are-demanding-macs-969)
-Four out of five businesses have Macs present in their environment.
-More than two thirds of respondents – 68% - said they will allow their employees to use Macs as their corporate enterprise desktops in the next 12 months, a rate double that of an earlier survey.
-Half of all survey respondents said they plan to increase their integration with the iPhone as an alternative to Research In Motion’s Blackberry as mobile email device.
- Seven out of 10 rated the security on Mac OS X as “excellent” or “very good.”
- 82% rated the reliability of Mac OS X as “excellent” or “very good.”

Maganda yung laptop all-in-all. Problema lang, sobrang mahal yata yan if you'll order it online.

ok, given that the software is functioning, what about the cd/dvd that you're trying to use? are they Lightscribe compatible (with Lightscribe logo). as i have said before ordinary cd/dvds will NOT work.
