@BENZ, a bit on the high side. You can get the same model for more or less P46,000.00
http://www.cooltoyzph.com/viewitem.php?iid=148
@jellybeans, given the choice I would go for the IBM.
It is thinner and lighter.
However, I doubt it if you can find these two models brand new since these models have been phased out almost a year ago.
It is a Bait and Switch tactic.
Bait you by posting all the models then offering you different items when you come visit the store.
For your budget of 50,000.00 there are a lot of Branded and Brand New Celeron-M variants which perform like a P4mobile. A Celeron-M processor actually has more L2 cache than a P4mobile.
If you can weait until next week Acer Model will be releasing a new model: Travelmate 2423NWXCi (Celeron-M 370 + DDr2 + 14.1"WideScreen + WiFi + DvD+CdRw) for 45,000.00. In my opinion a very good buy!
Hope this helps.

Pentium 4 processors aren't specifically designed for laptops. They generate too much heat and consume too much power. Either Intel Pentium M (Centrino) or Turion 64 (MT series) is a better choice. Those two processors will give you better battery life.

Sony vaoi's are good but they tend to be more expensive than other laptop brands (though the Lenovo thinkpads and Alienware are also expensive).
Before buying a vaio, you might want to read laptop reviews first at CNET.com and laptopmagazine.com or other sites so that you'll know exactly what you're buying.
Different laptops have different issues/problems associated with them.
What actually bothers me is the growing trend of incorporating Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 graphics chip in laptops, including sony.
Stick to laptops with Ati or Nvidia graphics. The additional price is worth it.

Just make sure you have the Driver CDs on hand as not all the devices are supported by Windows.

90% of laptop users use it for business and seldom for gaming.
(1)The primary purpose of dedicated video cards is for gaming and has no real world purpose for Microsoft Office Applications.
(2)Dedicated video Card consume a lot of power which shorten the battery life.
(3)The trend towards integrated Intel GMA is to maximize battery life critical for mobile users...
Noteworthy is that dedicated video cards increase laptop prices by at leasy 10,000.00 over Intel GMA powered models... in the age where price dictates that purchase, manufacturers are following the market demands...

That's a decent laptop. Good thing you opted for the 1GB of RAM. The Pentium M processor should give you decent battery time even though you only have a 6 cell battery. Your DVD drive looks like it's a DVD burner as well.

You may have to reformat the drive and do a clean install. It's usually not a good idea to install an OS directly over another one.

Dunno, if this soounds stupid or.. Anyhow, I would just like to ask since I need a computer at home, is it really advisable to get a desktop PC than a notebook (aka laptop, right?)?
What're their differences?
Am a graphic artist and design softwares such as Adobe and Macromedia + some other are used. Basic office tasks, internet surfing, download - play DVD/VCD/MP3. Games? Not sure but I can get hooked on some if I get bored. Would like to get myself a notebook and which of them do you suggest? Was eyeing on the Asus W5A (mainly because of it's white color, it's the only one available now besides Apple laptops, right?).
Hope you guys can enlighten me with this. Thank you.

Ever since I started using a laptop instead of a desktop, my electric bill dropped significantly.
This is especially noticeable for users who spend more than 4 hours a day on their computers.
@RLboy
For graphic artists, you may want to still use CRT monitors (the largest power consuming part of a pc setup). Why? Because most LCDs are notorious for rendering a shallower range of colors - something very important for graphic artists.

Hi, I'm interested in buying a laptop (this would be the first for me). What brand/model would u guys suggest? :)
I have a tight budget (30-50K), just the basics, no need for any fancy stuff, lightweight if there's such a thing in my budget range and of course durable.
I won't be using games. Just the basic stuff ( school work, presentations, email, etc.)
It would also be a huge plus if it lasts long without having to recharge hehe
Thanks! :D

I've actually read about CRT's advantagees over LCD. Portability I believe is also important for me and I've also read that laptop manufacturers are making these gadgets upgrade-easy nowadays.
For graphic artist out there, do you really prefer CRT PC's over LCD Notebooks?

Toshiba Satellite A75-S2292 Wireless PC!
Loaded 3.2GHz HT Widescreen Speedster!
Simply Intel's Centrino has no match to this powerfull work horse of 3.2 GHZ P4-M Hyper Threading Technology
An absolute steal! Lowest-ever price on this magnificent Satellite A75-S2292 from Toshiba. Loaded with the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz processor and a half-GIG of memory, this high-flying Satellite notebook is more powerful than most desktop PCs. Massive 15.4-inch LCD display in the widescreen format, ideal for watching DVD movies---or working on two documents at once! Built-in 802.11g wireless and DVD±RW drive round out the list of features. In the Toshiba tradition, the A75-S2292 is brilliantly designed and masterfully built. A value-packed deal on an award-winning notebook...but there's more. Under the hood, the Toshiba Satellite A75-S2292 features ATI Mobility RADEON 9000 video and Hyper-Threading Technology that kicks this machine into overdrive. Ideal desktop replacement, perfect for home office, small office and students.
Hyper-Threading Technology enables multi-threaded software applications to execute threads in parallel. This level of threading technology has never been seen before in a general-purpose microprocessor. Internet, e-Business, and enterprise software applications continue to put higher demands on processors. To improve performance in the past, threading was enabled in the software by splitting instructions into multiple streams so that multiple processors could act upon them. Today with Hyper-Threading Technology, processor-level threading can be utilized which offers more efficient use of processor resources for greater parallelism and improved performance on today's multi-threaded software.
Hyper-Threading Technology provides thread-level-parallelism (TLP) on each processor resulting in increased utilization of processor execution resources. As a result, resource utilization yields higher processing throughput. Hyper-Threading Technology is a form of simultaneous multi-threading technology (SMT) where multiple threads of software applications can be run simultaneously on one processor. This is achieved by duplicating the architectural state on each processor, while sharing one set of processor execution resources. Hyper-Threading Technology also delivers faster response times for multi-tasking workload environments. By allowing the processor to use on-die resources that would otherwise have been idle, Hyper-Threading Technology provides a performance boost on multi-threading and multi-tasking operations for the Intel NetBurst® microarchitecture.

That machine overheats constantly from almost every user review I've seen. Even users who rated this system good comments that it runs way too hot. Pentium 4's simply do not belong in notebooks period. And this is a heavy machine at 8 lbs. There seems to be a lot of problems with the motherboards on this model.

Can anyone here give the most basic specs of a notebook that a graphic designer/desktop publisher/web designer/video editor can use?
Like which kind of processor (64 bit or dual core)? Graphic card (Nvidia or Ati)? Screen size (14 or 15.4 and above)? And so on.. :hmm:
topnotch97
Mar 22, 2006, 11:06 AM
for a hardcore graphic designer? hmmm... i say a mac system. i bet that some notebooks would be average. i find it more stable on a mac system. well that's my assessment, others can give a better assessment.

Someone asked that same question on another thred in this forum a few months back. Try searching it.
64-bit proc is only maximixed if you have a 64-bit operating system and the applications to go with it. But 64-bit gives your laptop a longer lease of life because 64-bit is the way to go for all processors, dual cores included.
Reviews of recent dual-core laptops shows bad battery life. Maybe this would improve in the future when they finally managed to tweak out the systems.
Screen size? Get them as big as you can. Working on details on less than 15 inch on screen space is bad for your eyes. And you should get a CRT (and that's why you shouldn't really go for a laptop). The details and colors you get from LCD screens are still inferior to CRT. This is important for graphic artists.

topnotch97: I was actually eyeing on the MacBook Pro for it's Intel Core Duo processor, but it's expensive.
GOwin: What types of applications run 64-bit? Suppose it's better that I wait 'til a 64-bit dual core notebook comes out? As for the screen size, there are only 2 options I can choose from, right? Either I go for 15.4" or 17" screens? or are there any size? How about these WXGA thing? Do they matter with graphic or web designing or it just simply has to do with DVD playback?

topnotch97: I was actually eyeing on the MacBook Pro for it's Intel Core Duo processor, but it's expensive.
well that is true. either powerbook or macbook are expensive enough.
as for macbook, since it just came out, wait for rev B. expect the current as a "beta" product as people get to feel the difference. i don't want to be a lab rat and experience the macbook yet.
but for me powerbook still works like a charm. rushing to a macbook might not be a good idea for now. and it just came out like almost a month? and we might expect another upgrade soon, as Apple decides to go from the dual processor to a better one.
it's like waiting for a G5 powerbook back in the days.

guys, i'm buying laptop next month, at baka this maybe the first and last time i'll buy a laptop, so i'm only considering the brands that have a good build quality namely IBM and Toshiba (based on reviews). I heard fujitsu will run forever, but that brand is too expensive. so based on this requirements, a i narrowed down my search to:
1. IBM Thinkpad R52 - R52 P(M) 1.73 @ 533 256/2048DDR 60 GB DVD + CDRW 14" INTEL 64 / 128 IR+BT XP HOME 80211.G / B 2.7 KG 1-YEAR price-RM3988=P55.8k
2. Toshiba L20-P430 - P(M) 1.73 @ 533 256/2048 DDR2 80 GB DUAL DVDRW 15" CSV RADEON 128 MB NIL XP HOME 80211.G / B 2.6 KG 1-YEAR F.O.C MNICROSOFT ONENOTE 2003
price-RM 3999=P55.9k
3. Toshiba Satellite A80-P431 - P(M) 1.6 @ 533 256/2048 DDR 60 GB DVD + CDRW 15" CSV INTEL 64 / 128 MB XP HOME 80211.G / B 2.6 KG 1-YEAR F.O.C UPGRADE TO 512MB DDR
price-RM3699=P51.7k
and i'm still contemplating and trying to consider this
4. acer 5542NWXMi its a core duo, 512MB DDR2 but the brand is acer, and acer is kinda known for cheap materials.
price-RM3988=P55.8k
so can you guys help me? and is it better to look for laptop with DDR2 rather than DDR?

^^ sa IBM na... pero thinking that this is a Lenovo.... still scratching my head.
saan mo ba ito bibilhin?

Mar 24, 2006, 02:23 PM
i'm buying it here at malaysia, whats wrong with lenovo? as i know lenove were manufaturer of high end laptops much like alienware (which we will be bought by dell)
anyway, thanks for the suggestion, i'm taking IBM, but another choice has come up:
1. IBM Thinkpad R52 - P(M) 1.73 @ 533 256/2048DDR 60 GB DVD + CDRW 14" INTEL 64 / 128 IR+BT XP HOME 80211.G / B 2.7 KG 1-YEAR price-RM3988=P55.8k
2. IBM ThinkPad R51 #1843CA1 Centrino Pentuim M740 1.73Ghz, 2Mb cache, 533Mhz, 256Mb DDR2-RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, DVD-RW - Multi Burner Drive, 1xPC Card, free upgrade to 512mb memory
priceRM 3,998.00=P55.8k
basically R52 has IR and BT but only 256MB memory which is DDR only, DVD+CDRW only
while R51 has free memory upgrade and the memory is DDR2, and DVD-RW, but no IR and BT
from these choices, i think i'll choose R51 and i'll just buy a dangling BT, and a free memory upgrade a a dvd burner isnt bad either. but i dont know what impact will DRR2 will have over DDR1?
and another question is in the shop, this thinkpad is tagged as "centrino" but the toshiba Toshiba L20s are tagged as "sonoma" but as i understand sonoma is 533FSB and DDR2, so why is that IBM 533FSB and DD3 not tagged as "sonoma"? is it just a typo error?
topnotch97
Mar 24, 2006, 03:06 PM
centrino was designed for portables, ie laptops. the objective was reduce power consumption and heat generation, unlike the previous chips.
so i guess, you can either pick ibm models.
any chance of going to singapore? who knows that there are more good stuff over there.
jisc
Mar 24, 2006, 03:36 PM
topnotch97, you didnt get me, i'd like to know if its sonoma so i can say "pare sonoma yan! yung iyo centrino lang eh" BWAHAHAHA :rotflmao:
i've thought of the core duo of acer that fits my budget so i can say "core duo to pre, sa yo centrino lang!" but then again he could get back to "eh acer lang naman yang brand eh, tsipipay lang, hahaha" :rotflmao:
my friend bought a R50 from singapore, as i compute it, its almost same price here in malaysia, the price diff. is almost the cost of the fare. and i'd hate going back to singapore for warranty claims.

- DDR2 running at 533Mhz "theoritically" is 10% faster than DDR333.
- DDR2 will allow you to maximize to 3Gb RAM. DDr1 has stopped at 1Gb per stick whereas they already introduced 1.5Gb-Stick DDR2 memory for laptops
and another question is in the shop, this thinkpad is tagged as "centrino" but the toshiba Toshiba L20s are tagged as "sonoma" but as i understand sonoma is 533FSB and DDR2, so why is that IBM 533FSB and DD3 not tagged as "sonoma"? is it just a typo error?
- "Sonoma" is the third generation Centrino Platform.
- So far we have not seen any laptop with the Sonoma Sticker all the Sonoma Platform laptops we have seen still have the Centrino Sticker.
thinking of Dual Core? ...I would wait until the updated Bios is released.
http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/02/14/microsoft_to_release_patch_for_power_drain_bug/
So far still no word on when the bug will be fixed as the Updated Bios has not yet been released.
Between IBM and Toshiba.
IBM as better support, Toshiba has better features(Excellent display).
If you like using your laptop for Multi-media like watching movies then Toshiba would be the clear choice.
If you want a rugged laptop then IBM would be the choice.
note: Even if you buy your IBM at Singapore the warranty is international so you would not need to go back to Malaysia for Warranty.
Hope this helps

considering that new release for next year will be appropriate, win xp will run most apps.

that reminds me of one of my question, i plan on slapping a 1gb ddr2 ram on my own, but some said that would void the warranty, is that true? i mean are there any warranty seal that will be ripped when i open the memory module?
they said i have to bring the laptop to acer and buy 1gb from them and let them slap it in, but as i saw on their site, their memory cost 30% to 50% more than the one bought outside. not to mention that i'll have a hard time getting to their service center cause im not used to travel around KL.
my other option is let the laptop run for a week, then if theres no problem, heck with the one year warranty, i'll just slap my own memory myself.
and one more question, i saw on one site selling "built-in" card reader, so something tells me that i can buy those "built-in" things i dont have like card reader, BT, IR. and put it inside the laptop, am i right? are laptops just like desktop that have holes for other devices?

Mar 31, 2006, 02:54 AM
^^ langhiya. dumadami tanong.
but anyway, here's a good suggestion.
when you purchase your laptop, bilhin mo na rin yun RAM. tapos sila na store ang mag-lagay ng RAM sa laptop. para kung may ma void mang warranty, hindi ikaw ang may gawa kundi sila. or whatever yung policy nila.
or if you purchase a RAM elsewhere, dalhin mo yung laptop mo, tapos sila na ang mag install sa laptop.
solve? :D

Apple Computer's surprise software release allowing the company's newest Intel-based Macs to run Windows has put "virtualization" -- an alternative, and arguably superior, method of achieving the same result -- in the spotlight.
Released Wednesday, Apple's Boot Camp beta installs Microsoft's OS in a partition on the hard drive, thus offering Mac users the option of booting up either with OS X or Windows XP. Virtualization, by contrast, allows Macs to run Windows and Mac OS X not just on the same machine, but at the same time, with only a slight drop in performance.
Although Apple says it has no plans to create a virtualization product for the Mac, the advantages of this approach are strong enough that a number of rivals are rushing to market with Mac virtualization products even as Apple offers its dual-boot option. http://www.wired.com/news/technology/computers/0,70604-0.html?tw=wn_index_1

IMO, sony vaios are over-priced laptops... you'll get the same performance, better specs and lower price with other brands. then again, it's your money.
if you multi-task alot and a heavy/power user, get a dual-core pentium m based laptops... otherwise the single core pentium m will just be fine.

frequent charge/discharge is bad for the batt life at least, that's what i experienced. malakas ako gumamit ng laptop eh so mabilis yung discharge cycle. it only takes me months before a battery gives up on me.
what i do now is remove the battery when im at home/office and keep it plugged to the mains. i only put the battery when I'm mobile.
you may wonder, "what if a power interruption occurs?". I actually plug it to a UPS, not directly to the outlet.

I was skeptical at first buying a laptop with the dual core pentium processor but it really works amazingly fast with all the simultaneous applications I run. Yes, I think Sony Vaios are overpriced. Before I bought my laptop, I deliberated on a Toshiba (which I actually purchased but returned), Sony Vaio, and an HP 5000t. I chose the HP 5000t and I don't have any regrets with my decision. With my HP 5000t, I was able to save $500+ compared with a Sony Vaio with the same specs as my HP 5000t.

tanong lang....
anong difference ng....
Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology
Intel® Pentium® M 730 1.6GHz
sa
A40-S435: Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 3.0GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology
halos magkasing price lang sila... pero yung pangalawa... 3.0GHz while the first one is 1.6 GHz. Is it because of Centrino technology? If yes, why?

may Windows XP home edition na ba yang sa friend mo? marami ako nakita na 40K na Intel Pentium M naman, kaso lang magdadagdag pa me just for the OS. if wala pang bababa or enuf for 40K, i guess ill have to resort to modifying my desktop. hehe.

Back to Cooltoyz (na medyo mas mahal nga magbenta, siguro dahil may actual store sila at minsan may freebies na kasama ng laptops nila)
The cooltoyz Dell E1045 looks nice and will have a very bright ( reflective screen). Could upgrade the ram to 1 gigabytes, but 512 mb is acceptable. I just don't like the graphics card (intel gma 950).
Intel graphics cards = average image rendering. If this does not bother you, then it's ok.
Even if you're not a gamer, if the graphics card of your laptop is not good, video playback from movies aren't fluid. Sometimes the images even get pixelated. Digital photographs don't look as good either. It's still your choice though, since it's your money.
With more money, I personally would get this (click): Dell 6400 Duo 1.83Ghz 1Gb 15.4"WSXGA+ ATi X1400 WiFi . (http://www.cooltoyzph.com/viewitem.php?iid=293.)
Dell 6400 Duo 1.83Ghz 1Gb 15.4"WSXGA+ ATi X1400 WiFi - has a superior graphics card. Better images though this unit is a little heavier and larger than the unit you like.

I know that it's now possible to use MS office on a Macbookpro. Mahal nga lang ng macbookpro ( nasa P100,000).
About the pixelation, pangit talaga graphics rendering ng Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. I should know, nakagamit na ako ng ganyan.

true, not unless na laptop user ka talaga. or at least may 3 or 4 laptops kang pinagdaanan, alam mo kung ano ang maganda at what to expect.

=P tulad rin sa cellphone.. kung hantay ka ng hantay eh wala ka talaga mabibili.. when you're buying something you gotta know what you want and needs... don't be a girl that walks in a mall that does not know what to buy... spends 2-3 hours in a mall and walks out with no bags... c",) sorry pero may mga babae talagang ganon.. hahaha...
5 years? hmmm pwede pero if you're a power user hindi ka magchachaga sa 2 year old laptop... ngayon nagchachaga lang ako sa laptop ko dahil naghahantay ako ng vista.. hehehe..

the sexy and small 12" sony vaio can last 8 hours of pure work. it also has a sexy carbon fibre casing makin it extremely small and lightweight as well as extremely durable. its also extremely expensive for IGP and pentium m 2ghz. $3000AUD --- 120000pesos for the current exchange rate. damn thats expensive.
if thats what tickles your fancy.. then go for it.
but if lan gaming is your thing.. nothin beats alienware coz they use the mxm form factor of mobile graphics cards - you can also upgrade it by exchanging it. plus, alienware is also owned by dell.. so purty sure you can get em. but if you dont mind carrying a monitor with you, then you have lots of options for SFFs. my fave being the Armari ZPC64 - the original is old.. but im sure if you emailed the sales office, they can still whip you up a conroe and nvidia 7900GT for that form factor though :).

try to wait for next year, so that the new laptops would either have Vista and Leopard ready.
*okay*
don't be tempted sa "low" price, cause it might end up as "low tech." kaya sayang lang. and especially, avoid the so-called features, they're not gonna do any much. that's why laptops are for portability and accessibility, not a freakin space shuttle that do sub-orbital manuevers or interstellar travel. just travel by stargate.

Maganda ba after sales support ng COMPAQ? Ok ba brand na ito? sirain? or what?
walang WinXP? kaya siguro 30k.

^ Mukhang ayos 'yan, 'a? *okay* Saan binebenta?
Ako naman ang magtatanong, I am planning to buy the following model of Toshiba. Lista ko 'yung specs. Pwede na ba 'to for Vista?
The short answer is no. I don't think you can run even Home Basic. The RAM simply won't cut it with any version of Vista. (You might be able to run stuff with a 2GB USB drive through ReadyBoost..) And couple that with a Celeron, and you'll even have major slow downs with XP.
And 20GB of HD space.. I think Vista needs around 15GB already..

^ It depends. Right now a ThinkPad Z61t is going for roughly US $ 1100 direct. Roughly the same as a similarly specced HP. And with a regular price of ~ US $ 1300 that's about the same as, or only slightly more expensive than other direct sellers. And you get much better build quality without paying for something like an Acer Ferrari.
Although of course if you get an HP, Acer, Toshiba or any laptop from a big box store, they might have a better sale every now and then.

Hi! Just a question... which brand is nicer for a laptop? Sony or Toshiba? Which one has more support for hardware there in the Philippines? My cousin's interested to buy a laptop here in the States kasi and she's curious which brand is better if she decides to bring the laptop there in the Philippines.. :)

For Toshiba vs Sony, it depend on the use, specs, and price. :)
Suggestion ko, ask customer service of each brand about international warranty or check their websites. Ingat lang sa international 'LIMITED' warranty. Make sure your cousin reads the fine print.

dun sa nag ask about dun sa laptop from open pinoy specially yung samsung sens q10 which is around 18k nung binili ko last yr.. i think ***** tsambahan because yun akin maganda parin quality..
binili ko kasi yung laptop based sa specifications ko.,. im a web designer.. and siempre kelangan yung laptop gagamitin ko sa mga presentations.. most of the programs naman ok.. indi naman cia mabagal sincer inapgrade ko naman yung memory and ram.. and meron pa kong konting inupgrade based on my specifications...
i guess pag bibilli ka ng laptop identify mo muna kung san mo gagamitin.. or gagawin mo na cia primary computer mo coz honestly ako most of all design and development (web development) and even playing pc games eh sa Desktop ko pa rin,, yung laptop ko is for secondary purpose or for travel lang kaya i dont need pa sobrang techie or hi perforamnce laptops.. but for me yung laptop na nabilis ko is hi-performance na based sa specifications ko :)

Okay ang Compaq presario, bang for the buck talaga.

^Good morning. PC Express also sells the Asus A8JR for a similar price, but without an Operating System dvd. Personally, I like the specifications. Not sure, but if in the future you'd want Vista Premium, you'll have to increase the ram to 2 gb.
I'm a Compaq fan, so the the Compaq v3235TU really catches my eye. I'm not happy with the graphics card though. That intel graphics media accelarator just isn't worth it if you ask me, but this is my personal opinion.
Try looking at a laptop with dedicated graphics and one with shared graphics, if you don't mind the difference, then please go ahead and get one with shared graphics.
For the dedicated graphics card alone and because it even has an incorporated camera and DVD burner, I'd personally get the Asus A8JR.

Have you tried looking at tipidpc.com? It's sort of like Ebay.ph , but focuses more on laptops and desktops.
Similar to shopping at Ebay, you'll have to be careful with your purchases.
You'll need to determine first whether the seller is trustworthy before paying, lest you become a victim of fraud (and for this, there is a feedback system incorporated , with both positive and negative comments for each seller). Both brand new units and second hand units are sold there.
Some of the tipidpc sellers like Cooltoyz have an actual store and a separate website you can visit and view the laptop options and prices (if I'm not mistaken, even PC Corner is a member of tipidpc). Just google Cooltoyz and you'll be able to find the website.

Thanks for all the input. Now I'm torn between Asus and Acer. Truth is, I'm leaning more towards Acer simply because of its recovery CD and XP option. (I want to try out Vista but then again I'm thinking maybe I ought to stick with XP, for the mean time at least.) But I've heard that Asus is better in terms of quality. What's your take on that?
Regarding TipidPC and CoolToyz, I've been visiting those sites quite often lately but they don't have the Asus/Acer products mentioned in my previous post. Yet.

Kahit ako, baka next year pa ako mag-uupgrade to vista.
Good luck.

^Wicked specs! Between HP's Pavillon line and Hp's business line of notebooks, I'd prefer getting the pavillon line.
Honestly though, even if HP had previously acquired compaq, my personal bias (based on using both an HP laptop and a Compaq laptop) is that a Compaq is slightly better in terms of build quality. Still, having an HP laptop with those specifications isn't unfortunate at all. If you really like it and can afford it, then please go ahead and buy it.

Hello. You can try looking at websites like CompUSA or Circuit City for pre-built laptop systems and their specifications. Sometimes you get lucky and you'll be able to find a decent laptop at a relatively affordable price. You can also look at Best Buy or PC connection.
For Toshiba, try looking at this: Satellite P100-087028
(http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?seg=HHO&poid=370238) (It's 7.2 lbs, combo drive not dvd burner, 17 inch screen, Vista Home Premium, but the ram's only 1 gb wish it were 2 gb)
If you want a dvd burner, it will cost you another $200.

Mar 30, 2007, 01:58 PM
^I guess that would all depend on how well you take care of the laptop (here are some laptop don'ts I know of):
1. Don't drop your laptop (it happened to me, bummer :( )
2. Don't spill liquids on your laptop, particularly coffee, hot chocolate or sodas. Coffee and laptops do not mix, particularly when you spill hot coffee on your laptop's keyboard.
3. Don't store your laptop in a flimsy laptop bag. A laptop bag should have good padding and be of sufficient thickness so that it protects your laptops from accidental bumps, nudges or whatnot.

^Wala ata, not sure though. The m1210 is a nice little laptop, with a comfortable keyboard and built-in camera.
I've never used one for a very long period of time though, so I can't really comment on the laptop's long term performance.

1.66 ghz with 2 gb memory or 1.73 ghz with 1 gb memory? Thank you, gusto ko lang maliwanagan bago ko bumili this fri. God's will.

TeQuiLa.cHiQ: It's nice, except for the graphics card. What I'd suggest is that you physically visit a laptop store and see the difference between integrated graphics (Intel) and dedicated graphics (Ati Radeon or Nvidia). If you don't mind the difference, then please go ahead and buy this laptop.
Me, I use one laptop with an integrated graphics chip, and another laptop with dedicated graphics. Between the two, I prefer dedicated graphics. Images and video are crisper and cleaner. It's just a lot easier on the eyes. This is my personal preferrence though, you might think differently.
donkey2004: Between Asus and Acer, I'd get an asus. If you are interested in laptop reviews, you may want to look at Cnet.com and Notebookreview.com. Consumer feedback is certainly useful in finding the right laptop for you.
dWitch: Windows Vista Home Premium Recommended system requirements (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/homepremium/default.mspx)
I would also recommend you read specific laptop reviews at Cnet.com and Notebookreview.com.
I'm a fan of dedicated graphics, I don't really like integrated graphics (Intel). I would also recommend you physically visit a laptop store and see the difference between integrated graphics (Intel) and dedicated graphics (Ati Radeon or Nvidia). Just choose the one you like.
It would also be more convenient for you if the Microsoft Vista Home Premium comes bundled with the laptop. This way, at least you are sure that the laptop and the operating system are compatible.
I'd choose the hp, since it has more ram. You can save a bit by choosing a laptop without an integrated camera, but it's up to you.
Good luck.
