iskolar25: Yang pang aatake mong yan ang lamest of all. With our conversation here in Pex, it's so clear how your logic is the dumbest of all. Don't fool yourself by saying that what you say is only the truth, you are a hypocrite!
Kung may friction ang OICA or other offices ng UP with UPSA (I am not saying it's true..I'm saying "if") ito ang naiisip kong rason.

Sir MArk and Madz is a different story. Madz is already an institution and they have proven so much, time and time again, that they still are an excellent choral group.

You're pathetic and hopeless. You messed around here and the webmaster should block your IP from going in here again.
I hope that you'll STOP*peace* defaming other choirs here not just UPSA. I hope you really learned from this and you better watch out your filthy fingers next time!
I am waiting when this iskolar guy will surrender his post and his erroneous information about UPSA and CC.

Para pong tama ata si jerusalem at alanangmaisip sa observation nila regarding the "...I HAvE doNE sEverAl TAlks nA With Sir Ed ManGUiat..." issue. Kung kasi pong UPSA kayo na touring group, dapat ang pagkakasulat ay "...i've been with ed manguiat..." or something.
The weight of proving is in your hands.
Pro-truth lang po ako, kasi pag-nagsinungaling just to endanger a respected choir's reputation, sign yon ng desperation at walang manners talaga.:(

1. Madrigal singers
2. Ateneo Chamber singers
3. UP Concert Chorus
4. UE Chorale
5. UST Singers
lahat kayo magagaling.

And sad ano? I'm sure may mga mababait na CC out there. Please, for UP's sake naman.

Funny, I remember I bumped into Sir Ed accidentally in a grocery a few years ago, and out of the blue, he told me that he told his members not to post or engage themselves in the crossfires of this forum. But then again, he can't monitor his members outside UPSA time, right? hahahaha
And I beg to differ. I've enjoyed listening to the batches of CC these past 2 years or so. The group doesn't not exactly adhere to the "standard" choral sound expected nowadays, but it has it's own aesthetics worthy of appreciation.
By the way, every barrel has bad apples, but it doesn't mean the whole barrel is spoiled, right?

nakakabobong sumagot sa posts niyo kiddo and iskolar, sure ba kayong taga UP kayo?
Ganito nalang, words of wisdom (naks!): reading comprehension lessons nalang tayo. This one is basic: Read my posts within the context of the conversation flow (kunyari communication skills lesson ito, at least may natutunan kayo)... Tapos, review your wordy posts, then edit if necessary.
kahit isang comment mo about my posts, walang sense. example: about sa "taga UPCC ka ba that you think naging magka level ang CC at UPSA?" ... ano nga ba sinabi mo about this post? eto:
it's called sarcasm. within the context, what I was really trying to say was that mas mataas naman ang kalidad ng upsa kaysa CC, which is my personal opinion. (haaay I'm like explaining a joke here)... O yung iba, assignment niyo nalang, ok?
*****. Basahin mo ulit ang post mo. How dare you. OO taga UP ako. at OO, BOBO ka. i will not even glorify this with an explanation. figure it out for yourself.
just one other thing, the UPCC is a choral institution, as has been mentioned previously in this forum. do not DARE say that they have nothing to show for it. don't be a fool. no choir survives this long with nothing to show for it. the fact that they still exist (and are still good) is a testament to their success. UPSA, on the other hand, has concentrated their efforts to honing a certain style, a certain sound which is (obviously) competition worthy. I salute them. But just because they have all those trophies doesn't mean they're the best choir. Both choirs have their strengths and weaknesses. you are welcome to your opinion but so is everyone else.
UPCC and UPSA are not at war. If that is news to you, you must have been living under a rock. get over it.

And, for the record: yes, UPSA is not the best choir in the philippines! (o ayan, as much as you think na panatiko ako, objective parin ako sa mga comments ko)... they have strong and weak points as well.
By the way, every barrel has bad apples, but it doesn't mean the whole barrel is spoiled, right?
Not quite right johnny.
Hindi naman siguro lahat sa UPCC bulok pero great things start from small beginnings (o teka, bakit niyo kinakanta? :rotflmao: ).
We're talking about a certain TJ Tomalon here, an alumni member who's been with the group for a long time and who is still active with the group. He's not just any member here, malaki ang influence niya dito lalo na sa mga bago.
Pag may narinig na criticism, take it positively. Evaluate if the criticism is valid. If you think it is, do necessary steps to fill up yung kakulangan or bawasan ang sobra. Kung sa tingin niyo hindi valid, ignore the criticism and let the critic rant. Got that, Thadz?

you are completely OUT OF LINE.
no, your comments are NOT objective. no, your comments are NOT in any way helping the choir you so dearly love. and no, your comments are not intelligent. then again, you are NOT a UP student...go figure.
"taga UPCC ka ba that you think naging magka level ang CC at UPSA?" do I have to explain like to a child? this is NOT a sarcastic statement. Sarcasm is "Saying phrases that are opposite to the expected phrase, then adding evidence to it, even though it is not really meant." - (Wikipedia). This is an example of a sarcasm: "Of course, UPSA is the best choir is the whole universe! WHeee!" You dare attempt to teach me English grammar? Oh right, because you, e_coli, are soooo smart. (and that's another example of a sarcasm)

hi mundi? Would you care to explain what exactly did they win in this competition?
SEE? THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON HERE! FOR THE LAST 6 OR SO PAGES OF THIS FORUM YOU HAVE BEEN BAD MOUTHING THE UPCC DIRECTLY OR INADVERTENTLY WITH YOUR POSTS. ANY MEMBER/ALUMNI OF A CHOIR WHO IS RECEIVING NEGATIVE COMMENTS WOULD SPEAK UP AND DEFEND IT. BUT THEN, UPSA AND UPCC HAVE GOOD RELATIONSHIP. EVEN IN MY EARLIER POSTS HERE I EVEN DEMANDED THAT ED MANGUIAT BE IN THE TOP CONDUCTORS IN THE PHILIPPINES. THAT IS IF YOU ARE READING ALL POSTS HERE E_COLI! YOU REALLY INFURIATED ME ! I DID NOT INTEND TO WRITE HERE STRONG COMMENTS IN THIS FORUM ALTHOUGH I READ IN HERE FROM TIME TO TIME BUT THEN I SNAPPED. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU STARTED INTRIGUING THE UP CENTENNIAL KICK-OFF MUSICAL. YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT AND YOU EVEN DARED TO SPEAK OF POLITICKING.
It's a wonder how come UPSA wasn't included in the centennial celebrations of UP when the group is far more distinguished than the chorale groups that did participate. Are the UP officials (o kung sino mang organizing group ng celebrations) disowning an outstanding choir who's carrying their name? Very ironic, huh? Or do I smell politics?
YOU EVEN TRASHED UP VOCAL ENSEMBLE (A NEW AND BUDDING CHOIR) INSTEAD OF SUPPORTING THEM, AND EVEN THE UP CHERUBIM AND SER. WHO MAY NOT EVEN BE READING IN THIS FORUM!
Bakit, sino ba ang VE? Cherubim Seraphim? Wala namang napatunayan yan eh. . . In my opinion, kaya lang nasali ang CC bilang one of UP's major choir is because of age (I admit, maraming nagawa ang CC to promote choral music through the times). . .
BAKIT GANYAN MGA POSTS MO? (TAKE NOTE MARAMI KA PANG SIMILAR POSTS WITH THAT SAME CHARACTER)ANO BA KASALANAN SAYO NG UPVE AT UPCS AT HIGIT SA LAHAT NG UPCC?? WALANG NAPATUNAYAN ANG UPCC???
DO YOU KNOW THAT AS EARLY AS 1974 THE UPCC HAS ALREADY BEEN SELECTED AT THE 4TH LINCOLN CENTER INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK CITY AS ONE OF THE BEST CHOIRS IN THE WORLD. UPCC HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY INVITED TO THE ABERDEEN INTERNATIONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL IN SCOTLAND AND IN FACT LAST YEAR, UPCC WAS IN THE FESTIVAL COVER SHEET OF THE FESTIVAL. THE UPCC PHOTO WAS ALL OVER THE CITY OF ABERDEEN INCLUDING THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THIS MAKES YOU REALLY TO BE A FILIPINO. IT MAY NOT BE A COMPETITION BUT THAT IN ITSELF IS PROOF THAT UPCC IS RESPECTED NOT ONLY IN THE LOCAL SCENE BUT ALSO ABROAD. NOT TO MENTION THE UPCC ALSO BAGGED SEVERAL INTERNATIONAL AWARDS FROM VARIOUS COMPETITIONS ABROAD.
I THINK IF YOU HAVE DONE YOU RESEARCH FIRST AND HAVE ZIPPED YOUR MOUTH I WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THE MISTAKE THAT I HAVE DONE WHICH IS TO LEVEL MYSELF WITH YOU.

"Anti-UPSA session?" You wish! We have so many things to do than that! Invitations for us to perform are all POURING! And besides we hav 45 years of history, yun pa lang mauubos na ang oras sa pag orient sa mga baguhan eh. Tsk!
Oh please, stop denying it! Baka naman may selective memory ka?

yung comment ko about VE and UPCS was valid. Read it kasi within the context. Sinabi ko yun in response to iskolar25's mayabang na post:
So e_coli ang dami ko alam sa mga choirs ng UP noh? UPSA at UPCC pa lang yan, I haven't even touched the subject of UPMS, UPVE at UPCS. Bakit madami ako alam? KASI TAGA UP AKO!!! And not like you na nagmamarunong, taga labas ka naman!!!!Pwede talk about you own university choir o kung saang barangay choir ka man galing!

Yan ang pagkakaiba sa atin TJ. I criticize UPCC kahit na di ako taga UP. :vomit:

If that's what you wanna say/do bahala ka. You have all the freedom especially here in this forum. You cannot bring down a 45-year old institution. I think kung malaman ni Mr Manguiat ang ginagawa mong panlalait sa UPCC he might despise you. Or maybe he might say: "hindi naman taga UP yan huwag nang patulan."
Oo ng pala, OUTSIDER ka nga pala. Intrigerong taga labas....:rotflmao: Silly me, pinapatulan pa kita. Tsk!

First, congratulations to the group Imusicapella for the winnings! BOy am I proud to be a Filipino :)
well I'm a newbie and I just checked out this thread hoping to find a sensible and healthy discussion on choirs. Honestly, am a bit surprised that the last several pages have been quite negative. Just to share, I'm poor at singing and a frustrated musician (felt that since I was a kid). But I read (at least, hehe). And you guys should really be thankful you're lucky enough to have been given the gift... even the music enthusiasts who also help in criticisms.
But I think that talent is for you to use for a good cause.
I've always believed (and we all know it has been proven) that music is a powerful tool for creating and maintaining positive relationships, even ending whatever kind of barrier there is among people.
Sadly, part of what makes up the real world today are things like "these."
I hope that you won't let music lose its real power and essence/purpose. What is it really made for? Isn't music/singing a gift from God that its true beauty only shows when it is used for the noblest of intentions?
Music should be spared from gossips, intrigues, or even politics (as I've read here somewhere). I really don't think you need that. But if you think you do, then I CANT see how you'll be able to make good music at all.
Spread only the good vibes people! That's what music is supposed to do after all.
Sincerely wish a great future for choral music!
Peace to all.
Congrats again to Imusicapella!

To TJ Tomalon a.k.a. iskolar25:
I don't want to start another fight, I just want to express my sentiments on the record.
First of all, it is really appreciated that you are trying to extend your apologies to everybody. But if your apology is truly sincere, you should direct that to the one person whom you tried to defame: Mr. Ed Manguiat, and also to the members of his group.
As I recall, you were on your calm composure (and not "showing strong emotion") when you released those defaming remarks against Sir Ed that you could even add a "laughing out loud" icon () on that post.
Call me "panatiko" or whatever, pero kahit hindi ako miyembro ng grupo ni Sir Ed, I think Sir Ed and his group deserves such gesture on your part. You can only do that if you are truly sincere with your apologies.

Congratulations uli sa Imusicapella for your victory
Heard your rendition of the ever beautiful "O Magnum Mysterium" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZPVRJ6Edqg) sa competition. Ganda! Ang linis! galing galing!
But I have to agree, though, sa isang poster sa choralscene blog na mejo lacking ng "sense of wonder", pero meron. Also mayron lang something sa mga cuts and rests: maayos siya as it is, dagdagan lang ng konting refinement then super wow na talaga.
The sound is amazing: subtle Bass II's there ang galing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1J0O8wTzvIc

Good thing and your leaves withered!
Anyways, this is all funny coz after you defamed those people who are silent and just doing their best in choral singing, now everything is going back to you. It's like firing thousands of arrows and suddenly they changed their direction as they know that the target is innocent!
The change of your tone only shows how you were incoherent and not so cohesive!
Now stop all of these and e_coli is right. If you are to say sorry, I think that is for those innocent victims whom you bombarded with derogatory words!
If Ms. Sabas is still with you, I don’t know if she will condone this attitude of one her singers… which is so unbecoming… unless Montet will condone this!
TJ, you better close everything properly as one of these days MADZ, UPSA, Ateneo, UST Singers and your choir might do a project.. I mean a grand choir in CCP maybe, or what have you… you are putting your choir in a pedestal situated in a quicksand!

hi there again kiddo. . . so draw-the-attention-to-e_coli is your strategy now
first let's define "defame" (http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=defame)
charge falsely or with malicious intent; attack the good name and reputation of someone; "The journalists have defamed me!" "The article in the paper sullied my reputation"
from there, dapat ma de-distinguish mo between me and Thadz (aka iskolar25). Thadz falsely attacked the good name of a great conductor, add to that, with malice.
I, on the other hand, :bashful: merely stated out my opinion that UPCC is not a good choir :rotflmao:

So again, it is my OPINION na pangit talaga yung pagka kanta nila sa competition na to. Intonation :vomit: interpretation :vomit: sound :vomit:
:bop:
Now yung post ko about iskolar25 apologizing for his actions ay hindi naman talaga kailangan niyang sundin. ^ turo sa taas
1) wala po akong pinag-aaway na choirs. My posts were emphasizing on negative traits of UPCC only.
2) To criticize a choir, you don't have to be of the same school as where the choir is based
3) Why UPCC? I've said it countless of times: I don't like them at meron pang dumagdag dito na TJ sa forum.
6) You don't need formal music education background to be able to distinguish what's good choral singing from bad. Though having one helps a lot in giving more informed insights. Experience and exposure to the art will also be a great help.
Anyway, I would like also to say sorry for having a part on this matter. Nung una, I was only defending my favorite choir per attacks of some posters (which reminds me: where's choralfan87 -- siya itong root cause eh, nasama lang tong mga nag e-encourage sa kanya like iskolar25 and lazykiddo), at mejo nadala na sa mga sumunod na developments (especially revelation of iskolar25's identity). For that pasensiya na sa lahat.
Pero pinaninindigan ko ang mga binitawan kong salita about UPCC and I'm not sorry about that.
Yun lang...
Sana peaceful uli dito...

Kawawang mga Choir!
Guys, lets stop na lang siguro the issue. Well, UPCC and UPSA are definitely two different choirs and they have their own reputation in the industry. If one is lesser, I think this is the time for them to focus then on what they do so that they'll be at par with other choirs who have proven a lot in the cmpetitions abroad and not just attending festivals and all of that.
To UPCC, you all have the members who are powerful and vocally endowed compared to UPSA. You just have to work on how to furnish or make it sound one and award winning. Obviously, you also have the best dancers... but don't forget that you are formed by your elders to be a choir and not a "bayanihan dance troupe"
Whoever will take over the post of Ms Aracama, or lets assume it is MOntet, sana naman di madagdagan pa ang masyadong pagka "Bodabil" ng grupo. Alam mo naman! Sir Montet, you have to prove yourself this time if you really can handle a choir or if you can bring back the standards or Mr. Paguio or BETTER than that.
Sa UPSA naman, keep up the good work.. yun lang.
Sa Imusicapella, Mabuhay kayo! O di ba... Pag-usapan kaya natin ang Imusicapella. Hehehehe :rotflmao:
And to all people who will post here, wag na tayong mag batuhan ng mga maa-anghang na posts. Pwede and crtiticism pero ika nga ang tamaan wag magagalit kung totoo ang posts...or lets say... medyo totoo.
To all the choirs who made it to that stage, Congratulations (Ateneo, Mads, UPSA, UST)
Sa Mads, Mabuhay kayo at sana manalo kayo sa EGP... it has been like 5 years since UPSA represented Italy and the Philippines sa EGP.
Mabuhay ang mga wordclass na choir!

:grrr: ..and you have the nerve to appear diplomatic and sh*t after all your insinuations against the management of UPCC? and your comments about the alumni and their influence on the current batch? and your suggestions that UPCC alumni are the reason why UPSA was left out in the UP Anniv? Makapal din naman talaga ang mukha mo. Pasensya sa lahat? Nag so-Sorry ka ba? Marunong ka ba non? Nag so sorry ka tapos sinisisi mo sa iba? Iba ang Root cause at hindi IKAW? What kind of an apology is that? Sana peaceful na ang lahat? This is not the first time you've said bad things about UPCC, but it is the first time that somebody answered you.
people here are not stupid, you know. i have, from the beginning, limited my comments to encouraging people to speak their minds, and attack only those who try to limit others, or say they have no right to say whatever. i have also commented on YOUR apparent hate towards UPCC, which everybody sees, and I had asked you several times: WHY? I do not accept that you can have all that angst just because you don't like them. It's improbable, you do not convince anybody.
Is it because naiinggit ka sa pag tour-tour ng UPCC? That they get respect from the industry despite YOU not liking them? eh baket? SINO KA BA? did they not accept you as a trainee? tinarayan ka ba nila noong bata ka pa kaya dito mo inilalabas ang galit mo sa kanila? awww.... kawawang baby. Bullsh*t.
None of us wanted to go down to your level, except iskolar that is. no one dared mention that despite their successes in International competitions, UPSA is still boring as hell to watch. no one said that they look like maids in that hideous white costume. or that their soloists always sound like back-up singers. no one said anything about the reason why there are no UPCMu students in UPSA... (you don't know? well i do.) no one said anything nor made insinuations about how Ed Manguiat handles his choir (except iskolar). and then YOU (you little f*ck), dare to say iskolar should apologize "sincerely" just because you've found out his name? well where's YOUR sincere apology to all the alumni and members and conductors, past and present, of the UPCC?
this is so NOT over yet.

That they get respect from the industry despite YOU not liking them? eh baket? grabe...VERY TRUE ang sinabi ni lazzykiddo...maganda lang pakinggan ang UPSA sa mga unang songs nila pero pagtumatagal sobrang nakakabore na...AS IN....Yung attack nila sa ibat ibang song eh IISA....Feeling ko tuloy yung OPM eh nagiging Renaissance...kumanta nalang sila ng mga Renaissance songs and the likes kasi dun lang sila magaling.... masyadong nagiging european yung dating nila kaya ang panget na minsan...AND TRUE!!! ang mga custumes PLS....PURO RECYCLE!!! Wala bang funds na pang palit ng mas maayos na costumes? ang mga soloist parang back up singers!!!! even yung buong group parang pang back up lang....HINDI PWEDE ANG UPSA SA MGA MAY ORCHESTRA at malulunod sila sa sobrang HINA NG BOSES NILA!!!bagay lang sila sa mga simbahan na kahit wlang mic eh ok...pero sa mga OPEN AIR....pls....THEY WONT LEARN HOW TO ADJUST KASI HINDI NILA KAYA!!!! ADMIT IT e_coli....HINDI KAYA NG UPSA yun!!!! hahahah...Magaling ang UPSA sa Magaling pero they are SO LIMITED!!!! AS IN VERY LIMITED!!!! nageexcel lang sila sa field ng POLYPHONIC pero the rest...pls....wag na silang maging TRYING HARD....IISA LANG ANG DATING NG BOSES NILA SA IBA'T IBANG KLASE NG KANTA...Totoo diba?hahaha... Again...observations ko lang toh na sa tingin ko eh maraming agree....observations from a NON-UP choir fan...OOHH...wag nyo ng Intrigahin kung Totoo kasi TOTOONG hindi ako taga UP at hindi taga anumang choir sa UP...ok? hahaha...i know..may mang-aaway na sa akin na PATHETIC UPSA FAN... and FAILED TRAINEE NG UPCC? hahahahhaah

whew! :rotflmao:
aba... so about interpretation tayo ngayon.
1) Take it on your comment na when they sing OPM eh tunog renaissance: I definitely disagree. Eto BAHAY by Gary Granada (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFaYEO5ZT_8) ... The best interpretation I've heard. Sobrang kakilabot.
I was looking for other OPM songs sa youtube, kaya lang wala. Kung sino man nag-uupload jan, please do. Yung tumatatak sakin na OPM interpretation nila is BAHAY for one, also yung Sana'y Wala ng Wakas...
This particular song I found a youtube clip sung by UPCC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO5GqS2g0pg
And I tell you, this is a really bad interpretation... dagdagan pa ng pangit na intonation. What do you get? )
2) Here's my take on it: hindi ibig sabihin na kapag malinis, blended at homogenous ang atake sa isang song eh tunog renaissance agad. It's on the touch. In fact, di ba homogeneity (singing as one) ang ideal goal ng choral singing?
Compare these Spanish songs "TU" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fbqFsZt-jk), "La Cubana del Manglar" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHw2piEH5zA) and "Aunque No Te Villegar" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHvwAmaoSRo) with period music like "Jubilate Deo" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHR0nn680mY) or with Jazz like "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k_W14l4L9Q) or with OPM like "Bahay" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFaYEO5ZT_8) and even back-up for a rock song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJiksg0YEYc) hehehe
Common ground of these songs: excellent intonation and blending.
If the interpretations all sound the same to you, consult your EENT doctor :bop:
haaay, dami....
Kung yan ang feeling niyo when you watch UPSA, kanya kanyang taste siguro yun. For me, damang dama ko yung artistry at puso nila pag kumanta sila, mapa anong klase ng kanta man yan.
3) Open air/big stage, with/without orchestra? Eto:
Very Big Plaza (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GgYpqYC1To)
"Light of a Million Mornings" at PICC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJi5lDfi2-E)
back-up sa Araneta "On the Wings of Love" for Regine V (with orchesta) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEWyMBB1sMU)
back-up sa Araneta: "I Believe" for Regine V (with orchestra) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUOe0rfdCsI)
Jazz "Birdland" at PICC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuXSN738lPE)
"Joyful Joyful sa PICC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmquo0Tyi5A)
tsaka yung Spanish songs as performed in Torrevieja competition.
4) On soloists, I would definitely agree that UPCC singers (and those from other choirs) may have more "soloist" voices. But these videos prove that UPSA's soloists are also quite good:
"Joyful, Joyful" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmquo0Tyi5A)
"No Importa La Distancia" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9NIc3DlrQk)
"Light of a Million Mornings" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJi5lDfi2-E)
5) On costumes: I would agree mejo makaluma yung puting suot nila sa video ng "Nightingale..."... Pero ang ganda ng effect ng mix of different Filipino costumes as shown on this video: "Dahil Sa Iyo" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddKp6YwLk6I)... And on this video din, nag comment si Pitoy Moreno. Siya ba ang designer nila (Filipiniana gowns?)...
6) and to edelmario: WHAT IN THE WORLD made you think that competitions ABROAD are the ONLY measure of a choir's success? is that colonial mentality of yours on overdrive?
Ayaw ko ng makipag-away...
competitions abroad is one of the measures of a choir's success. Sama mo din contribution to the local choral industry (so dito successful ang UPCC :D ) Sana lang, you can take it to the next level at mejo matagal tagal na rin sa industriya ang UPCC... *okay*
*pahabol for kiddo: about iskolar25, I hope you can see my reasoning as to why I believe he shoud apologize to the proper people involved. We all have seen his posts here and now we know him and his affiliation.
As for me, I don't need to apologize to any CC alumni, members or even to their conductor. I believe in what I said. If you don't believe them to be true, then counter my arguements with proper logic, hindi yung mura ka ng mura... I might be able to see a different perspective.
peace all! *okay*

at may warla pala dito.
UP Cherubim Seraphim... oh well... magaling din sila un lang! ! anuba? grabe ha!

^ haay eto pang isa...
Magtrabaho sila at magpaka galing.

Jul 21, 2007, 01:10 PM

Ayaw kong pumatol pero sige na! but please don't take this personally....
Muli. Wala kang karapatan! R-E-S-P-E-T-O is the word.
Unlang again! don't take this personally
BWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH!

1) I am not imposing MY standards. Like I said, hindi ako nagagalingan sa UPCC.
I have my own standards, you have yours.
5) If you so feel that my criticisms are invalid, iharap niyo sakin ang pruweba.
Kung valid, I’ll apologize for it.
In fact, ako itong nagpapahayag ng opinion, kayo itong gustong tumigil ako dahil nasasaktan kayo. Tama ba?
*kulog* *kulog* *kulog*
9) Alam mo, I also appreciate choirs na nagsisimula palang ma recognize. In fact, kung may oras, I do listen to their videos sa youtube. Just recently, I was watching AUP Ambassadors videos nung nasa China sila. .
11) About UPVE, if you read back kung paano nasali sa usapan ang UPVE and UPCS, eto:
Sabi ni iskolar25:
So e_coli ang dami ko alam sa mga choirs ng UP noh? UPSA at UPCC pa lang yan, I haven't even touched the subject of UPMS, UPVE at UPCS. Bakit madami ako alam? KASI TAGA UP AKO!!! And not like you na nagmamarunong, taga labas ka naman!!!!Pwede talk about you own university choir o kung saang barangay choir ka man galing!
Cherubim Seraphim? Wala namang napatunayan yan eh. . . In my opinion, kaya lang nasali ang CC bilang one of UP's major choir is because of age (I admit, maraming nagawa ang CC to promote choral music through the times). . .
O ayan, to clarify the misunderstanding. In iskolar25’s mayabang na post, he was babbling and adding the two choirs as if they were significant in the conversation. My comment was intended to show him that the two choirs were NOT significant sa pinaguusapan (lumilihis kasi yung lohika ni iskolar25, parang ikaw at si kiddo hehehe).

Pope Benedict XVI: Choral Singing Educates for Peace
Calls It Training for Life
LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy, JULY 22, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI says that choral singing is an authentic education in life and peace, and an exercise in the "hearing of the heart."
The Pope said this Friday following a concert in his honor performed by Alpine choirs at the Castle of Mirabello, near where he is vacationing until July 27.
"Training in singing, in singing in choir, is not only an exercise of the external hearing and voice; it is also an education of interior hearing, the hearing of the heart, an exercise and an education in life and peace," the Holy Father said in his improvised remarks.
"Singing together in choir and with other choirs together, demands attention to the other, attention to the composer, attention to the conductor, attention to this totality that we call music and culture. And," he added, "in this way singing in choir is a training in life, a training in peace, a walking together."
Seven different choirs from Cadore participated in the concert, offered by Bishop Giuseppe Andrich of Belluno-Feltre.
Before the beginning of the concert, Bishop Andrich spoke of the dramatic stage of the First World War in which the Dolomites were also a theatre.
The Pope too spoke of those dramatic moments "when this mountain was a barrier, a terrible and bloody theatre of war."
"Let us thank the Lord because there is peace now in our Europe and let us do everything to make peace grow in us and in the world," he urged. "I am certain that precisely this beautiful music is a commitment to peace and a help to live in peace."

Sleeplacker, salamat pare! These enlightening words from the Pope on choral singing just MADE MY DAY (MY LIFE EVEN)!
I'm currently a member of a Catholic charismatic group (yeah, the one with the clapping and raising of hands while singing worship songs), and part of its music ministry. As a new member of this group I try to share my knowledge and experience in choral singing with them, and although they're not really used to choral singing, they seemed appreciative of my efforts especially when I led them in their choral performance last Christmas.
I could still sense a bit of apprehension from them to give more focus to choral singing in their activities (di rin kasi sila sanay talaga), but I believe that the Pope's inspiring statements on choral singing would help them see the value of choral music in the Church.
I'm sharing the good news you shared here at Pex to them. Ang sarap talaga ng feeling pag nagagamit ang Pex in a positive way. MABUHAY KA KAPATID!*okay*

Johnny's right. I, too, don't appreciate the careless and illogical comments of some pexers here.

Hay sinabi mo, ako naman, I haven't had the chance to sing before Pope John Paul II - pero when we were on tour last 2004 - nakita ko pa siya, kasi may Cannonization sa St. Peter's Square noon kaya lucky na din ako.
(but our group's batches 1993 and 1995 were so lucky because they were able to perform before him when they were there)

Yup, nakapanood na rin ako ng performance ng acs sa Church of the Jesu ba yon sa may katipunan. May lead sila over some choirs, kasi ba naman, composed of alumni of acgc circa 2000-01(?), yun magaling na batch.
However, I don't think they're good enough to stand side by side with the top 3 at present -- UST singers, madz, at upsa. Siguro, ue chorale ang kahanay nila, which is a very good choir also.

That's an interesting top 3. Sa tingin ko, the 3 represents the major schools of choral singing in terms of sound ("school" like "school of thought") in the country. USTSingers with their distinct power, UPSA with their distinct "mapusong pagkanta" and, well Madz, whose sound almost every other choirs tries to follow, thanks to Madz et al (and that includes ACS, imho)

I really hope you're merely referring to the fact that ACS is only but a member of the Madz et al, because otherwise, there would be nothing humble about your opinion. By lumping all those choirs together, you are being dismissive of Jojo, Anna, and all the other conductors who have roots in the Madz by implying that they are simply parroting the choir that they came from, and that they do not posses their own ideas of vocal sonority.
So get real. Even Mark's present batch doesn't even sound like the "stereotypical" Madz. On the first place, does such a thing even exist? True, there may be some sensibilities that are common throughout the various generations, but the sound per se is dependent on the vocal make-up of the singers who are present in that particular batch, and is not hinged on the idea that that the Madz has a particular "sound" that it subscribes to.

Ok, I'm sorry, I guess that came out wrong. I wasnt meaning that such established choirs like ACS are parroting the Madz.
The Madz has a big influence with regards to its singers-turned-conductors and it is this commonality that I see and hear with the choirs under these conductors. Of course as time goes on, these conductors would later on develop their new taste when it comes to sound. But their developed tastes would still have hints of the Madz touch.
I am not singling out a Madz sound in the so-many choirs. What I was referring to was that if I were to categorize the active choirs dito sa pilipinas, most of them will fall under that "school of sound" represented by the madz (this includes the ACS in my opinion).
I guess what I meant by "choirs following the Madz sound" would be for those in the Madz et al that has not gained enough experience yet to form their own sound (this may sound unfair to those new choirs, but, heck, that's how I see it).
And while it is true that a group's composition of singers may have an effect with regards to the over all sound of the group, the singers do not totally define the sound. Kaya merong "this-choirs-sound" its because of the conductor. For example: if Sir Fidel Calalang were to handle the singers of Madz, kaninong tunog ang masusunod, e di yung gusto ni Sir Fidel. Now if the singers cannot catch up with the vocal demands required by the conductor's sound, the conductor will have to do something about it.

They're in Vienna right now. As papabur said, the EGP will be in about two and a half weeks' time, on August 26.

Textual intelligibility while singing is a sticky issue that is governed by both external (acoustics, for example) and internal (conductor's philosophical approach to sound vs. words, etc) factors.
But I digress. The powerpoint presentation the ACS uses during their concerts are for translation purposes whenever foreign texts are concerned. An appreciation of the words for its’ own worth, as well as how they are melded to the music involved, is something that the regular concert-goers gloss over most of the time (hence, in my opinion, the fixation on the “sound” per se, to the exclusion of other facets of music-making). Ultimately, the texts and translations that are projected onscreen are for the audience's benefit, as it adds another layer of understanding towards the creative process that is being done onstage by the performers.
Now, to opine that the ACS is unintelligible is fine. There is nothing amiss with that. After all, opinions are supposed to be based upon personal preferences and/or experiences. But to insinuate that they intentionally use the powerpoint presentation because they are unintelligible is another thing altogether. It is tantamount to saying that the choir fleeces the audience on purpose by deliberately fudging up the text, and that they are simply reliant on the projected texts in hope that they can get away with it. Perhaps, if one actually bothers to background-check the premise first before writing anything in public forums, then the thesis itself would not come across reeking with insolence.

From abs-cbnnews.com:
Madz makes history as world’s best choir
By DOREEN G. YU
The Philippine Star
They’ve done it again – and as always, they’ve done so in perfect harmony.
The Philippine Madrigal Singers, popularly known as the Madz, was again proclaimed the best choir in the world after topping the 2007 European Choral Grand Prix in Arezzo, Italy last Sunday, the only choir to ever win the distinction twice.
The Madz first won the honor in 1997 in Tours, France. The European Choral Grand Prix was established in 1989.
The group bested four other championship choirs from Cuba, Hungary, Russia, and Taiwan. They earned the right to compete in this year’s Grand Prix by winning the Florilége Vocal de Tours in France last year.
Winners of choral competitions held annually in Arezzo and Gorizia, Italy; Varna, Bulgaria; Tolosa, Spain; Tours, France; and Debrecan, Hungary automatically qualify for the next year’s European Choral Grand Prix. The site of the Grand Prix is rotated among the six cities.
The Grand Prix winner, or laureate, receives a diploma, trophy, cash prize up to 4,000 euros and other prizes determined by the organizing city. Strict competition rules prohibit the laureate from competing in international choral competitions for the next two years.
The Madz was organized in 1963 by National Artist for Music Andrea O. Veneracion as the University of the Philippines Madrigal Singers, composed of students, faculty and alumni of the university.
Following a Renaissance tradition, they sing in a semicircle without a conductor. The Madz has an extensive repertoire that ranges from classic choral masterpieces to avant-garde compositions, Renaissance madrigals to folk, pop and humorous novelty numbers.
The group hit the international stage in 1969 at the 1st Choruses of the World Festival at the Lincoln Center in New York, and has performed to critical and popular acclaim all over the world. They have won top prizes in practically all international choral competitions, and have nearly 40 Philippine and international recordings. They have performed before royalty and heads of state, including Pope Paul VI, King Juan Carlos of Spain and American Presidents Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon.
The Madz led by choir master Mark Anthony Carpio will return to Manila Tuesday.

to our fellow choral enthusiasts, just behind the scene tidbits during competition. For me, pinaka maghigpit na nakalaban ng Madz ang Vesna Childrens Choir (40 singers) - Being the last to perform, while Madz was 2nd to perform, sobrang galing nung children at nakakayanig yung 8 songs na kinanta nila compared to Madz 5 songs. During 1997 EGP, Madz was the last to perform so one is inclined to think na pag-hinuli yung choir eh that's most likely to win. The Russia choir director is in his late 70's at naka-baston pa commanding seniority and authority. All 7 juries are all Europeans so
one would think na ang pananluhin ay kapwa nila European -but Mark Carpio BROKE ALL THAT MYTH...Hayyyy I could go on and on in my euphoria...CONGRATS MARK and MADZ 2007 Batch.. the best batch ever of the Madz in its 44th year of existence

Guys have you checked out this 2007 EGP contender? Grabe! Super wow! After listening to them, hindi ako magrereklamo kung sila ang nanalo.
--- ok, before any misunderstanding here, I'm not saying the Madz do not deserve the prize. They so much do, and Im proud about it that they won ---
Check them out sa youtube. Yung technicality siguro dapat given na yan na dapat magaling talaga in that aspect ang mga contestants: precision, rhythm, intonation, vocal production... But it still amazes me how these kids can execute their songs so excellently.
And these kids from Russia are also "mapuso" (contrary to the idea na European choirs generally lack the heart Filipino choirs possess but are technically excellent; siguro Russia and some eastern european countries would be an exception).
Makikita mo rin talaga sa kanila yung stance of a winner, pag kumanta akala mo eh panalo na. And the difficulty of some of their pieces and their execution and interpretation of such pieces is also something admirable. And did I say they're so young? :D
Somebody said that these kids cried when Madz was announced the winner. Haay, if I were one of them, I'd cry a lot too!
This just shows the level of an EGP contender. Every finalist can be just as good as the winner. Iniisip ko, if I were one of the judges, it would break my heart not to give the award to another choir like this children's choir for example. But they are forced to choose just one. (hey, maybe it wouldn't be just as hard to choose when you get used to judging... ito'y from a non-jury POV lang naman)
Sila pala ang tumalo sa ACGC nung 2001... Regardless, the Philippine choirs who have made it to this level are worth the praise as well:
1) Madz - Andrea Veneracion
2) Madz - Mark Carpio
3) UST - Fidel Calalang
4) UPSA - Ed Manguiat
5) ACGC - Joel Navarro

Sep 8, 2007, 12:08 AM
Kasama din ang mga conductors mentioned who brought the groups to that level of excellence...
Congrats to Mark at pinagpatuloy mo ang tinayo ni Ma'am OA with the same mark of excellence. Congrats din to Sir Fidel and Sir Ed for maintaining the level of excellence of your groups. Sa ACGC (or should I be addressing ACS?), I really haven't heard you perform for quite a while but I'm sure you can surpass the excellence your batch 2001 has set. (Baka naman yung ACS ngayon eh yung batch 2001 members?)
I'm quite sure many Philippine choirs were inspired to somehow achieve that level of excellence. So work lang na work hehehe
Good luck at mabuhay ang mga korong pinoy!

The University of Visayas which is also headed by Anna got Third Prize in the same category. UE also won first prize in the popular music category. University of Visayas won Second Prize in the Ethnic category, and Philippine Male Singers got a Third Prize in the Equal Voices Category. To the Music Ministry head and Choir Leaders:
Greetings of Peace!
The St. John Bosco Parish Ministry on Music and Cultural Affairs (MOMCA), would like to invite the head of your Music Ministry and members to the launching of “Narito Ako, MISA DELGADO Book I”. This is a compilation of original compositions and arrangements of Mass Songs in Filipino for the liturgical celebration composed by Lester Delgado.
Mr. Delgado is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with the Degree of Bachelor of Music Major in Choral Conducting. He is currently the musical director of the St. John Bosco Chorale, the defending champion of the Paskong Himig sa Lungsod ng Pasig Choral Competition in 2005 and 2006. The group also went on a Hong Kong – China Tour in 2004 and 2005 and recently performed for Filipino and European audiences in their 2007 European Concert Tour. As a composer, his composition “Bagong Umaga”, won the grand prize in the UST Conservatory’s Songwriting Competition and became the festival piece for the 2004 Harmonies Choral Festival and the official contest piece for the 2006 Voices in Harmonies Choral Competition. This year, his composition “ORDE-E”, a traditional Madukayan Folksong from the Cordillera Region, was one of the 15-winners in the “Mga Awiting Bayan para sa Korong Pilipino”, a choral writing competition sponsored by the National Commission for Cultural and the Arts (NCCA) and Music Competition for Young Artist, Inc. (NAMCYA).
“Narito Ako, MISA DELGADO Book I”, has been endorsed by His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales (Imprimatur) and Rev. Fr, Nilo Mangussad (Nihil Obstat), Director of the Archdiocesan Commission on Liturgical Music.
Mr. Delgado would like to share with you his music and he is looking forward to seeing you during the launching on Jan. 16, 2008 (Wednesday), during the 6pm Mass at The St. John Bosco Parish in Makati. We at the St. John Bosco Parish are also anticipating your attendance. God Bless!

Hmmm... mahirap na tanong itu... pero para sa akin, more or less:
1. Annie Nepomuceno
2. Ed Nepomuceno
3. Eudi Palaruan
4. John Pamintuan
5. Chris Borela
6. GP Eleria
7. Anna Piquero
As for the seven I mentioned above, I would gladly sing any of their arrangements anytime!
And I'm sure may nakalimutan pa ako. Kaya lang nakalimutan ko na. :p Like, of course, si Mr. C himself! :)
Sadly, the top two arrangers I mentioned have migrated to the US (including #4), pero of course they still accept commissions (hint hint).

Happy holidays everyone!
Speaking of Paskong Himig sa Lungsod ng Pasig, the 2007 finals of this much-awaited local competition last December 14 was a blast, as ten up-and-coming choirs battled it out for top prizes. Judges included professors Calalang (UST Singers) and Delarmente (De La Salle Chorale). Coming out on top (and expectedly, at that!) was the Pasig City Concert Choir composed of employees from the Pasig City Mayor's office (ahem...). St. John Bosco came in second and a surprisingly good Coro de San Sebastian placed third. 4th place was Gloria Patri Singers and 5th was Ars Cantica Ensemble (choir of the Greenbelt Chapel and EDSA Shrine).
The finals of the popular PAGCOR Choral Competition held last December 23 became a game of musical chairs as almost the same finalists in the Pasig contest again fought for the top plum in the last local choral contest of the year. The judges in PAGCOR included UPSA conductor Ed Maguiat and UST Music Dean Raul Sunico. This time, Coro de San Sebastian saw itself as the grand prize winner of the prestigious tilt. 2nd prize went to rising choir FEU Chorale and neophyte Ars Cantica Ensemble surprised everyone by salvaging 3rd place. 4th place was Musicainta and 5th was Gloria Patri.
It was a good season, all in all, for budding choirs as both Pasig and PAGCOR generously provided them with excellent venues to prove their worth and show that Filipino choirs, in general, are very good indeed!*okay*
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FELLOW PEXERS!

I found this from today's Manila Bulletin (Jan 8, 2008)
As expected, the audience couldn’t seem to let go of Ms. Lani, so she ended up, happily and obligingly, doing several encores, among them a classical piece that really showcased her singing prowess. Lani shared the stage with the acclaimed UP Concert Chorus and pop idols Christian Bautista, Gian Magdangal and Ronnie Liang.

What struck me is the underlined. Kasi I watched this show (MMFF Awards Night) at IBC13 last Sunday, at yung mga nakita kong mga singers, eh parang sa ibang koro galing. And I found these in youtube:
