Ateneo students and alumni, do you have any popular legends and myths to share about our hallowed campus and its illustrious history? Here's a few of the outlandish Ateneo urban legends I've come across...
- The white statue of the Virgin Mary in the Grade School rock garden is actually alive, and at night becomes a white lady ghost.
- Again in the rock garden, beside David Hall, there's a HUGE rock sitting on top of another rock, and no one knows how it could have gotten there. Rumor has it that crushed between the rocks is the skeleton of a dead Jesuit priest.
- The grade school football field was once a cemetery, and even though the headstones were moved, the bodies are still buried there.
- Bellarmine and the Admi bldg used to be right beside each other, but there's a major earthquake fault between the two buildings, so for years Bellarmine has been slowly moving away from the Admi, which is how Bel-field was formed.
- The PIPAC building, which is always mysteriously empty, is actually a huge Jesuit vaccuum chamber. If there's a student the Jesuits don't like, they lock him/her in PIPAC and pump out all the air till s/he dies of suffocation.

a boarder somwhere in abada came home late and didn't bother to turn the lights on since it would disturb her boardmates and she didn't want to be impolite, so she went directly to sleep. The morning after, she woke up and found out her boardmates were all dead, and there was a message on the wall written in blood saying, GOOD THING YOU DIDN'T SWITCH ON THE LIGHTS.......

The statue of St. Ignacius of Loyola not far from Cervini is said to form the shadow of either Virgin Mary or Jesus Christ if you observe it closely at night. That's what I heard...

An Eliazoan was brushin her teeth when she saw somebody else's reflection on the mirror. turnin around, she saw that there was nobody there. Scared out of her wits, she prayed the Hail Mary over and over. The reflection, with a mocking grin, prayed along with her, saying after a few minutes that a prayer without faith is like no prayer at all. http://www.pinoyexchange.com/evilgrin.gif

Eto, honest na tanong lang.
Tunay bang ang mga mais na tinitinda sa tapat ng Ateneo ay mga mais na tinanim sa mga maisan sa loob nito?

brownpau - heyhey gr898! good thread you've got going here.
roadrunner - we actually used your urban legend in a video prod project... we attributed the story as "hango sa isang popular na mithi"
here's one more about PIPAC -
that its airtight at night so if you get trapped inside it when they close, you'll implode from the air rushing out.
and of course there will always be a few about the Comm Dept -
1) there is a ghost in the comm studio who likes to fix the alignment of the tables there late at night.
2) generally, there are ghosts in the comm dept, especially in the studio and near the editing suite...
*personally i believe there are ghosts there.

- due to this fault, the bellarmine field is getting bigger and bigger each year that is the very reason why the ROTC training is held. Due to the increase in size the field can accommodate more and more cadets each year, the very reason why the university accepts more and more male freshmen each year.

Hey there, suntanned, nice to see you on PEX! :D
More on the PIPAC; my GF told me the original legend of the PIPAC building: a janitor once got locked in over the weekend and couldn't get out, so he ran around banging on the windows and screaming for help, but no one came. On Monday, they found him there, dead of suffocation. Now it's said that you shouldn't stay in PIPAC overnight, or you'll die when the air gets all pumped out. http://www.pinoyexchange.com/lol.gif
And my own little Comm Dept ghost story...
Back in `98 when we were doing GUIDON work in the GUIDON office upstairs, we heard a knock on the door. Suddenly, one of the editors, who had been standing just outside, came in and asked, "Who knocked on the door?" And we said, "We thought you knocked on the door!"
No one had knocked on the door! Isa pa, it was at exactly 12 noon.

anima:
may janitor na kalilinis lang ng cr, and a guard asked if he could pee in the newly cleaner cr. the janitor allowed him with hesitation. when the guard left, the janitor checked the cr again to find hand streaks of human feces all over the walls of the cr. the janitor ran after the guard but his innocent looks told him it wasn't the guard. as the guard turned to leave, there on the back of the guard's white uniform was a clear handprint in human feces...
anima pa rin:
an atenean went down from the 3rd floor of Gonzaga going home late at night, but he realized that he always ended up in the 2nd floor no matter how many flights of stairs he took. a janitor found him the following morning huddled near the 2nd floor staircase shivering in fear.
eto pa:
may isang cervinian daw na nagising kasi akala niya nasusunog ang dorm/room coz may lumiliyab sa tabi niya. when he looked at the flame, there was a flaming child jumping up and down at his bedside...
sa eliazo raw may nakita once ang isang eliazoan na isang maliit na bata na tumatakbo sa hallway. t'was when she went out of her room at about 2 in the morning to answer to the call of nature. she called the kid, and when the kid turned around, the kid was about 3 ft tall, all black at may dalawang maliliit na sungay sa ulo niya. the girl flee in terror...
meron pa ba dyan?
the world is full of wonders...

There's this super scary story about Bellarmine Hall, sa second floor.
A few years ago daw:
There was a senior student who was about to graduate that year.
Last day of the finals na daw yon and he was really prepared for that exam, i heard it was philo, some say it was theo daw. He was expecting to perfect the exam.
anyway, sobrang gutom daw siya because of all the preparations, he wasn't able to eat lunch and it was already five in the afternoon so he decided to drop by the bel caf since it was just five minutes before the time. When he went there, he just grabbed food (I think it was turon), paid for it and waited for the change. However, since it was almost closing time, there wasn't enough money left in the cashier because the money were already taken by the cooperative manager so the cashier told him to wait for a while as she gets change in the money box at the kitchen. He waited for almost four minutes already but to no avail, the lady didn't return. he went to the kitchen and found nobody there. ten minutes passed and still there was no one who returned to give his change, he finally decided to just proceed to his testing room ( he was already so late). When he got there ( I heard it was at Bel 204), the professor did no longer accept him in class, his test was forfeited and he failed. In turn, he wouldn't be able to graduate at that year. Depressed, he went home. He was never seen again after that and was reputed to have died of drug overdose out of the depression. And now every eve of the last day of finals, it has been said that a walking turon haunts the corridors of the second floor in Belarmine Hall. And now reports had it that the last person to buy turon at the bel caf every last day of the finals always fails.

this one's a true one... im from cervini...
this happened last semester...
in cervini we usually sleep at around 2 am. that night was no different, my roommates and i slept at at around that time. however one of my roommates woke up coz he heard noises in our room. he sat down from his bed and squinted around the room to see what was making the noise. What he saw was something he never expected. right there in the middle of our room was a child crying. Then the child looked up at him and he noticed that the eyes were red. Out of fear, he turned on his bed light, and the child disappeared. It happened to him 2 more times. One time the child was sitting near the computer, and another time it was near our refrigerator. Wheneve the lights are turned on, the child disappears... that is why we sleep with the lights on nowadays... :) what is freaky is that my roommate said that the child looks exactly like a street kid he saw in katipunan st. ...

sa grade school:
sa tapat ng library may malaking rubber tree (as in MALAKI talaga). may mga nagcla-class night noon (not sure what grade), tapos nagtangkang mag-ghost hunting ang ilang mga studyante. nakakita RAW ng white lady sa rubber tree. isa pang version, may matandang teacher daw na sinita sila kung bakit gising pa sila. bumalik daw sila sa classroom. babalik na sana sila nang nagtaka sila kung bakit may teacher pa doon sa areang yon. lumingon sila, wala na yung teacher. bumalik nga sila sa classroom.
during an ACT play, shempre may mga taga-miriam na kasama. may mga babae at lalaking nag spirit of the glass sa bandang pergola (the grade 4 area). so they did, kaso somehow nabasag yung baso. na-possess daw dalawang taga-miriam at isang atenista. yung isang taga-miriam at atenista naka-recover after ipinakita sa spiritista. kaso nakakakita na sila lagi ng mga diwata at mga spirits. yung isang taga miriam, never daw nakabalik - nasiraan na daw nang tuluyan.
may headless priest daw na naglalakad sa david hall tuwing gabi.
sa high school:
tuwing days daw, maraming mga nagsisilabasang mga spirits - some to support the dazers, some to play pranks (kaya daw nawawalan ng stuff minsan)
general ateneo campus:
tuwing gabi daw nagjo-jogging si father masterson sa masterson drive...

sa grade school:
pag naglakad ka sa east field nang midnight, hindi ka makakarating hanggang sa fence. pinaglalaruan ka daw.
high school:
may days this weekend (8-22 to 24)
wanna see if some of your days legends are true? (yeah right)
sa sonolux/waiting shed/steps down to ateneo housing:
shortcut daw nila bonifacio yon.
loyola house of studies:
the priests are nice there. anyways, there's an elevator in that building. but it's already old and creaky. the reason for this is that there's a body on top of the elevator cabin. he was a student who loved loitering around the place.
sa EAPI:

To GadoGado--kala ko na kung gaano kanakakatakot story mo--tumayo na nga balahibo ko in preparation!--yumpala ganon lang! Natawa nga ako sa walking turon part! :)
Hey, Brownpau, like your thread--really interesting, and for once people aren't insulting or bashing each other. :)
Anyway, kaunti lang alam ko sa mga urban legends of Ateneo--I heard one about yung foresty-looking place near the covered courts--you know, the place along the road leading to gate 2 na may hanging bridge pa. Well, may mga nag-ghost hunting daw doon. Yung isa sa mga kasama nila medium pala--nakakasense ng spirits--di nila alam. So anyway, wala silang nasense, and they walked down the path laughing loudly and joking and making fun of the place. The medium kept quiet. When they had left the place, the medium told them that the whole time they had been walking and making noise, spirits had lined up all along the path and stared at them silently.

i believe the comm dept ghosts though.
during my orsem, my TNT told us about PIPAC turning into a vacuum at night. he said it with a pokerface at ang masaklap diyan, naniwala ako. i'm from chem, so i heard about that teacher getting stabbed in the bldg.
re: fr. masterson on masterson drive..***** naman..natakot ako dun ha. di na nga ako magjojogging dun pag gabi!
my cervinian friend told me, totoo daw na iniihian ng dormers yung coņo bench...
trickdadi, totoo ba yung kwento mo? freaky...
Moon Goddess, yep, galing sa maisan sa loob ng ateneo yung mga mais na binebenta sa kalye. kaso ang alam ko, hindi na sila nagtatanim ng mais ngayon.. :D
