Frankly yes, I was..
although I did not have the trademark glasses and sickly body that nerds are stereotyped for. I was a complete nerd in the dictionary sense.
And oddly enough, I was also the one who dated our campus' most sought after girls.
Think not? It is true.

hmmm...it's nice to see that most of you guys admitted..i mean for some reason, in our society, it's a crime to be considered or even associated with nerds :) especially in highschool.blame it on Clueless, blame it on some weird mentality, blame it on the rain, for all you want.but i have yet to see the day that it's the nerds who are deemed high society, the untouchables and the ones who are occupying the status benches in school. however, back to the topic, i wasn't a nerd in hs, i was actually one of the "bench" girls. now that im in college however, i'm starting to regret that i wasn't one! god, my blockmates are really SMART!and i'm up to my *** trying to keep up with them!! :)

Nerdiness is a state of mind. :)
God bless all the nerds of the world, especially the biggest nerd of them all... without whom we will still be "windows"-less.

I'm a nerd. You know, the type who reads Star Trek, loves Math, reads those thick Science books, babbles about stories of cosmic proportions... but I don't wear glasses.

YES!!! I have a lot of writing instruments, never do go out without them. I have the mandatory checkered polos... and the brandmark thick eye glasses - i am myopic at 3.00 grade.
i read a lot and graduated with honors....

I used to be a nerd in grade school: teacher's pet, no friends, fat, smart, top of the class....then one day.....everything changed.....I woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and realized...I was not a nerd anymore...I had become....a dork. ;p

orion: cool huh?!
well I dunno, it depends on peoples' classification. for my self-rating:
I'm a nerd coz I wear glasses, am unfit (well, fat), and am stuck to the computer
whole day long.
On the other hand, I'm quite sociable and extroverted, unlike the stereotypical nerd being the shy type.
so, which is which?

When i was in Grade School i thought that being a nerd was a compliment. It meant that you studied hard and got the high grades. I longed to be called a nerd then.
But in High School I learned that it's far from being a compliment. Unfortunately I went to an exclusive girls school where looks and porma matter more that substance. I was respected because i got the high grades and i could help those pathetic air heads out of their academic failure. Aside from that I KNEW they were making fun of me behind my back.
Now that i've graduated in College I look back and just laugh everything off. The Nerds are the ones who usually succed in life (look at Bill Gates) because they constantly feel the need to prove themselves worthy in society. I know so because i just graduated Magna cum Laude from UP..and my inspiration is to prove to everyone that nerd don't end up messed up. I am respected because I am respectable :-)
yun lang!

i think there are two kinds of nerds, the nerds who study a lot and the nerds who like nerdy stuff. i'm more of the second kind. i don't study at all... but i LOVE reading. i like math and science. pati nga anak ko, reading and being read to is on top of his list of favorite things to do. yes... over and above cartoons, toys and swimming... :D

Ada: I'm not really sure what's the difference, but I think being a nerd has more to do with one's interests and intellect, so one can be considered a nerd and still be cool. A geek, on the other hand, has more to do with a lack in social skills, while a dork is goofy and weird. So, I guess a nerd can help you out in school, while a geek can be your goofy friend that makes you laugh, and a dork can be that one weird person that annoys you.

I think it's kinda cool to be either a GEEK or a NERD nowadays. In places like Silicon Valley and Wall Street, I know that the ones who drive the flashiest Porsches, BMWs and Lexus cars are the nerds, not the jocks. It is because they comprise the bulk of the 24 to 27 year old billionaires' club of the Tech Economy.

Slightly off-topic, but Ada, paki-add naman ng "nerd" smiley. It kinda looks like me, eh. :)

Yes! I WAS a Nerd. Pero di na ngayon. Nung 4th yr HS ako, I was the 5th when we graduated. When I started to study in La Salle, my brain started to turn me down. My friend told me puwede pa raw bumalik ang pagka-nerd ko if I'll study very hard this time.
Actually, my organization kaming magkakabarkada. It's called THE NERDS CLUB. Kasi kaming lahat magkakabarkada, mga NERDS sa former school even in our own colleges(?). I'm so doubtful in my case.

*****NERDS VS BULLIES******
Anyway, since our topic is about being NERD, I know you have a lot of experiences na binubully kayo or tinutukso. How did you overcome that? Was there an incident na naging palaban na talaga kayo sa mga nangbubully sa inyo? As in hindi na kayo nagpaapi!!! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/boom.gif Share naman. I have lots of experiences when it comes to that matter. I really can't forget the time when my co-nerd friend was ridiculed about the THICKNESS OF HER EYEGLASSES. Natawa ako pero I felt guilty in the end.

How do you define NERD?
Ferris
Aug 31, 2000, 08:50 AM
For me, NERD is a personality wherein you devote yourself in studies. To be a nerd, it requires intelligence. You don't have to wear thick eyeglasses, be bullied, or be out of fashion. Traditional nerd iyon. But since we're now in the 21st century, hindi na pahuhuli ang nerds. I now define it with just two words, MATALINO at NAKAKA-RELATE.

well...in grade school i used to be one, as in totally inaasar, pinagtatawanan and everything, specially cos i was such a crybaby back then(yeah, hanggang grade 6 iyakin pa rin)pero basta pagdating sa assignments sa english and reading, biglang babait ang mga nangaasar sa akin...yon pala magpapturo o mangongopya lang.
high school, i changed kse mas naging understanding ang mga barkada ko dun...well i'll call m'self a semi nerd, kse may nangaasar pa rin noon kahit pa sabihing ako ang pinakamataas na CAT officer na babae at the time.lone wolf for the first few months, tapos na-accept din ako ng mga classmates ko at naging barkada na kami...till now.
in college, back to the old lone wolf personality.hirap **** kalimutan ang hs life, grabe.

without the nerds who will get to rule the world? yung mga walang alam kung hindi magpaporma lang(kasi hanggang dun lang ang alam nila. while the nerds after some time, the nerds get to dress the same as those papormas. and ONLY BETTER cause we've got better brains!)....

Some people think that I am a nerd coz' I wear eyeglasses, and sometimes, I just don't care on how I wear my hair. I just let it loose and everything. But truth is, I'm not. I'm a loudmouth and all that. Some people see me as "maangas" while some think that I'm a snob.
Well, our world can be a better place to live in if we'll stop labelling things...
Laryh

People are just being labelled or called nerd coz' they don't act like "them"(let's say, the popular circle). But the truth is, most of the nerdy types are also good-looking. Problem is, they just don't give a damn on how they look like. They don't worry about their physical appearance. Like...me (I guess... ;) ;))

its always like that..
the nerds vs the bullies....but as to be expected...bullies in the end make more...they tend to save the best for last...
kung pormahan lang din eh kaya nilang humabol sa "in" crowd, with the money their earning!!while the bullies end up in the dumps...

Once a nerd, always a nerd.
Yes I am proud to say I am one.
Please indulge me with this little story:
Eversince I was a little boy, I love to read. Comics, encyclopedia, Hardy Boys, etc. When I entered college, doon ka na-realize na being true to what you are is more important than the masks you wear. Kaya ngayong may trabaho ako at may sariling pera, balik RPG, Magic, Fantasy books at anu-ano pang hindi ko ginawa while in High School (pero ginagawa sa bahay), ang ginagawa ko ngayon. Buti na lang my wife was also a closet NERD in HS.
With that story, naiintindihan ko ang mga closet QUEENS... Ngiiii!

Masyado namang touching-but-inspiring ang story mo. Pero nung HS ako, despite of my being a nerd, I didn't have a GF. It only reached until Mutual Understanding though my feelings ako for this cute girl. I'm tho one who refused to enter this relationship coz once you fall in love at the wrong time, pati studies mo magagawa mong i-give up just to please a girl. May mga girls that don't let their BFs devote with ther studies WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Magseselos kasi sila - rival between GIRL VS. Books, notebooks,Pens, etc. 100% sure talo na agad ang girl if . . .
