Ang ganda nito ah, civilize tayo for once. Anyway in terms of cheer dancing, tops talaga Salinggawi. I specially like the go-go-go USTeeee...then the U...S....T....UST Tigers!!!! he-he solid. Pero in terms of cheering in crescendo, number 1 ang Ateneo crowd. Grabe pag nag wa-one big fight sila, tapos yung get that ball nila, original and also the blue eagle spelling.
I have a question. Actually 2. Huwag magagalit tatamaan ha? first bakit same ang drum beats ng UST and Adamson? I think original ang sa UST? Second, bakit pareho ang beats and tone ng UP fight sa Zama-zimma-zam cheer ng LaSalle? I'm sure LaSalle ang original dito because I know for a fact that since 1926 pa ang zama-zimma-zam cheer ng LaSalle. O wala naman kopyahan ng beats and cheers oh.
As for the DLSU pep squad. All I can say is ang titigas ng ulo nila. Some alumni are trying to inject old and new cheers to their routine and yet they won't listen! Talk about bullheadedness.

Good observation RETIKANO. I also admire how solid the Ateneo crowd cheer simultaneously. The Blue Bubble Bat. should improve their choreography. I have a question: takot ba silang madapa o malaglag kaya very simple ang kanilang steps?
As for UP Maroons pep squad, okay ang choreography dahil athletic ang dating. Yun lang outfit nila every year, parang hindi pang-cheerers. Ganda nga pero parang may mali. Sila champion last season, right?
Sa DLSU pep squad, okay din. For the first time, I saw an original execution of pyramids from their group. Ibang style :). Sana DLSU will prove that it isn't true :)
UST Salinggawi? Without being biased, aminado naman tayo magaling sila talaga. Solid. Firm. Fast-pacing. Original. 3-time winner out of 4 competitions! Dami lang nanggagaya ng steps sa kanila. I think FEU and Adamson pep squads copied several steps from the Salinggawi.
I always thought of UE as being darkhorse during cheering competitions.
FEU. Huwag magagalit. Nababaduyan talaga ako.
Atleast ang Adamson last season medyo okay saka pulido ang performance nila during the competition.
NU.
OkiS
Mar 15, 2000, 06:25 PM
ATENEO. Their Blue Babble Battalion can really get the crowd going. As for their cheerdancers, they're good but they still need work.
LA SALLE. They're good din. They're good in dancing and synchronization.
UST SALINGGAWI. I'm sure a lot of people say they are good. And they are. And they know that. And that's the problem. Masyado na silang mayabang. I think most people don't know that during the Cheering Competition last year, they placed second lang. Since di makayanan ng ego nila, they had to contest yung pagkapanalo ng UP Pep sa UAAP board. Talk about sore losers.
FEU. Uhmm... mababait naman yata sila.
UP. They're good. And they train hard. They're always on this quest to become better. Kung suportahan lang sana sila ng UP... As for their costume, well, they have always been the trendsetters. They don't stick to the traditional outfits.
UE. Okay na sana except that ginaya nila yung striped pants ng UP Pep Squad.
ADAMSON. They're getting better. But we have to give them credit, their cheerleaders are still in high school. And they have addmitted to copying cheers from other schools.
NU. No comment.

Rach: thanks for the comment. Its really good na people notice the babble's ability with the crowd. With regards to the steps, we tend to be more of a traditional cheering squad. So in changing the steps and maybe adding new cheers while we're at it, isn't something easy to do. Although, I understand your point, that's basically why our steps seem very simple. But, this year hopefully we could inject new flavor to our cheers. :D

Have you guys seen the assumption hardcourt and pep squad.

hav to agree with timothy... ibang klase ang cheering sa highschool! (special mention ang zobel :D) ALL OUT TALAGA!!! EVERY YEAR PATINDI NG PATINDI ANG ROUTINES!!! AND ALWAYS HIGH ENERGY LEVEL!!!
i know the dlsu pep squad has this traditional, yet funky ways of doing their routines... pero opinion lang ha... variety and a different type of cheering (*** high energy) could really do wonders for the all out participation of the crowd :)

I have to agree that high school pepsquads are fun to watch too. Back then, Poveda, Assumption and Miriam were all equally good. Povedans are truly gifted in gymnastics, and most of them then were in the national team. The Assumptionistas were very creative in their routine and the Miriams had great cheers then and had a lot of dance routines. :D

Obviously the orginal will always be the best. It was Ateneo that first put up a cheering squad since the time that American Jesuit Priests brought the concept of cheering to the Philippines in the early 1900's
And besides, in the UAAP it was only in 1996 that the other schools put up cheering squads in order to join that crappy jollibee cheering competition. Before that only Ateneo and rival Lasalle had regular cheering squads in the UAAP games. This explains why most of the cheers of the other schools sound like cheap knock-offs of Ateneo and Lasalle cheers. They simply copied the DrumBeat Patterns of Admu and Dlsu. Like the UP's "UP fight" cheer that sounds like Lasalle Zama-zimma-zam and the other UP fight that sounds like Ateneo's One Big Fight.
Even though Ateneo's Blue Babble Battalion uses simple choreography, they will still be the best since the Ateneo cheers are rich in tradition and history. We dont cheer to entertain.. but to inspire. We dont need fancy pyramids or girls in skimpy outfits. All we need is OneBigFight!
FYI the girl cheerleaders in Ateneo are not members of the Blue Babble Battalion, they are just cheerdancers from another org. CADS
The Blue Babble Battalion will forever be an all guy group. Thats the tradition and thats the way it will always be.

I think DLSU pep squad is a lot better than SALINGGAWI! you know why? 1)SALINGGAWI uses a choreographer (hired professional) while DLSU doesn't. DLSU pep squad has enough creativity to make their own routines. 2)If you look at the execution of their pyramids... SALINGGAWI is faster but if you look at the BASE... it takes three men to hold up a girl while it takes only one La Sallian to lift one girl. NOW THATS DIFFICULTY!!!
elijah
Apr 29, 2000, 04:29 PM
Before you give a comment- even if this world is a free world- please be RESOURCEFUL enough to gather TRUE and PRECISE informations- not factual ones which are biased in majority- based on your comment, if found it entertaining but it looks to much raw.
I'm not saying that DLSU pep squad is not good- yes they are- but no one in the UAAP will ever surpass the achievements of SALINGGAWI- ur squad is good for the second spotlight!
Thanks for the mediocre research.
AND
AND FYI again- MAY TRAINOR PO SILA (DLSU pep squad).
kung creativity ang pag-uusapan- sino ba nag mga ginaya ng lahat ng Cheering grp. sa UAAP? sino nag-pauso ng PYRAMID and the likes?
Kung execution- SINO BA ANG NAGMUKHANG katawatawa noong last cheering comp. ng UAAP- sino ang hindi man lang nakabuo ng pyramid even for 3 min.s? i bet u can answer that.
But DLSU Pep Squad is good parin- kahit papaano.

ey rektikano,
REKTIKANO = The right to rule
dibadibadibadibadibadiba? :)
Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't both La Salle and Ateneo start a Pep Squad at the same time? Isn't that the reason why these two schools are the only schools with a cheering tradition?
Also, I've noticed many similarities between La Salle and Ateneo cheers. Examples are:
Ateneo: Halikinu (tama ba ang spelling?)
La Salle: Rektikano
as in
Ateneo-->;Halikinu, keeni, keenah!
La Salle-->;Rektikano, keenee keenah!
Ateneo: Blue Eagle Spelling
La Salle: La Salle Spelling
And others...just can't think of 'em now. Maybe it's because these two schools have so much in common. Maybe that's also the reason they're rivals. Just an observation.
On a lighter note, shouldn't UP also have a UP spelling?
-->;UP SPELLING! ONE TWO THREE!
-->;U - P !!
-->;RAH!!!
or maybe:
-->;UP SPELLING! ONE TWO THREE!
-->;U - N - I - V - blah - blah
-->;RAH!
:) :)

** Basho,
You're right about the meaning of rektikano. If my friend didn't research about it and disseminated the info to the pep squad and to the orientation people, the Lasallians of today wouldn't know the meaning of it. That's why I had that reaction towards the pep squad. As my friend said, it should be their job of looking for these stuffs and disseminating it to LaSallians. And as I repeat, when some people try to help them, they give them the run-around.
And my question still stands for them- do they know the LaSalle cheer of Sagita? man, I can tell you it's a beautiful cheer. Research, research.

Well here we go,
as for me taking into consideration all the aspects of college cheer-leading:
Una sa Drums:
LASALLE, ATENEO: Very Traditional; nice beats and the crowds very well respond to it
UST: Ang dami niyo tsong; Sacrifice Quality for Quantity??? PUH-LEASE!!!
ADAMSON, U.E. , FEU: two words : ATI-ATIHAN
Pangalwa sa Half-time:
Lasalle : Di niyo ba napansin, american-style executions ang liftings, there is no chance for them to VIOLATE the cheerdancer's integrity. And of course minimal if not flawless injuries. Synchronically sound and best of all ORIGINAL.
But u got 2 hand it to Ateneo, they stick to traditionals and though sometimes it's lousy, the crowd still responds and that's a good sign.
UST, FEU, UE, ADAMSON : Mga boyong, mag Universal Motion Dancers na lang kayo PWEDE?!?!?!?!
UP: Very artistic, emotional but don't you think dancing is way of the mark from Half time performances when the crowd expects Cheerleading??????
BOTTOMLINE: there are a lot of aspects wherein we have to take into consideration when cheerleading is concerned. I like the way the ATENEO crowd responds to cheers , but we have to hand it to La Salle, if you want the best of show, smiles and support this is the Squad to go. Their participation was always present in almost every circumstance the ANIMO - the school spirit needed some boosting

hi guys and gals... here's the info you wanted about the cheering competition between the DLSU and CSB pep squads. It was the RX 93.1 Cheering competition which CSB is the 2 time RX Cheering competition champions. It was held last November 1999 at Chatterbox, Galleria. We were really surprised that the other schools who were supposed to be there backed out at the last minute so the only schools left were DLSU and CSB. It was a showdown between the two schools and we all knew that it would cause some rivalry. Anyway, CSB defended their title... to set things straight, hindi kami nanalo dahil sa "Ganda ng Legs" kasi po, DLSU wore skirts also. It was a fair competition and we won fair and square. :) I know, I was there... I was one of the ones who represented my school, College of St. Benilde :)

well f.y.i. GALS is back. Last SY 1999-2000, pero it was only last school year that they brought back the cheering competition. Pero I'd have to say that GALS peak was during the 80's (I've seen the tapes) when these schools were really all out with their performances. I just have to say that if you see the GALS and GAP tapes and you compare the routines and dances with the ones of the UAAP teams, you'd be ashamed of the college/university pep squads- tinalo sila ng mga high school people.

I hate it when Lasallians are sourgraping when it comes to cheering competitions such as the RX cheering competition. I for one thought CSB was going to lose because Lasalle Pep had stunts which CSB pep didn't incorporate yet, Nag-order na kami ng isang barrel ng beer para tanggapin na lang pagkatalo namin pero we won pala. Actually, it wasn't the legs, it was the CROWD. A lot of Benildeans were there to root for us and Lasalle won it by their routines and stunts (I admire them a lot for that). But since we cheer the same old cheers, it's not fair to compare sister cheering squads. They cheer in the UAAP (goodluck to you guys in your cheering competition) and we cheer in the NCAA (sad to say, a lot of schools in the NCAA copied Lasalle, except for San Beda with their Indian yells and little Indians in the openings) and there isn't one cheering squad from NC who can be at par with the stunts CSB does right now. I hope they would be more innovative and thank goodness, Mapua and JRC made their girls wear skirts na dahil nakaka-ilang tingnan na CSB lang naka-skirt.
Best of luck to DLSU in the cheering competitions. To UP and UST, hope you make it to the next RX cheering competitions and avoid accidents ok? Mahirap makalaban sister school eh, pati kami mag-aaway pa.

I think what the others said about the UAAP pep squads is right. The cheerleaders from the different high schools seem to have better cheering routines compared to that of the UAAP cheering competition. I would especially like to point out De La Salle Zobel, which has been holding high school cheering competitions every single year beginning from the time it was founded in 1978 up to the present. Paganda nang paganda at pahirap nang pahirap yung mga dances pati stunts and pyramids na ginagawa nila every year. It is worth mentioning that DLSZ has been winning first place in the cheering competitions here in the south every single year since 1995, maybe even earlier. And DLSZ even won 2nd runner up in last year's J&J cheering competition. I think that the pep squads of the different colleges should start getting ideas and dances from these high school cheerleaders coz they seem to have more competitive stunts and moves than that of the UAAP cheering competition. But among all the UAAP pep squads, I still think La Salle and UST are the best.

DLSU Pep Squad! They did an awesome routine during the half of the UST-La Salle game kanina. The squad improved a lot, there are more routines now then before. Talk about flexibilty. Schools like NU, and Adamson spent half of the routine dancing, and less cheers. As for the drummers ng Adamson, ginaya nila ang drum beats ng UP, UST (the eh-**, eh-** UST!! beat and the 8-beat) and pati yung drumbeat ng CSB. They should come up with original drum beats of their own.

there is no rivalry between the main and csb pep squads, yung mga taong hindi kasali sa pep ang gumagawa ng rivalry...compared to the dlsu pep, the csb squad is still young (6 yrs in existence)and we still have a lot to learn...during the 1st rx competition, some members of the dlsu squad supported us and we are thankful for that...

RIGHT TO RULE...? i'm not from the pep but i think dis is what it means. tama ba?

first, id like to comment on REKTIKANO...
the cheers of LA SALLE are both SYMBOLIC and TRADITIONAL...each MOVEMENT, each THROW, the ARCHER STANCE....they all have meanings...but for the sake of PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE..ill share a few meanings and symbolisms to u people...
REKTIKANO means "THE RIGHT TO RULE"
BOOM MA KAYA means "ONE LOUD CRY / WARCRY"
ZAMA ZIPA ZAM has its origin from a late 60's cartoon SHAZAAM where when he comes to save the day, the sounds go SHAZAAM!...
..i dont know about OTHER schools but here in LA SALLE, we are rich in tradition and we just dont do things just for the sake of doing it, we put meanings to it so that we would be able not only to LEAD the CHEERING but also show the ANIMO inside of us...

I think I know what 8-beat you are talking about. It's another ocho beat called Ocho-B as in Ocho-Benilde. It's a beat we perfected for a very long time, even before CSB entered the NCAA. We had to innovate in order for us to prove to other people that we do create other beats to differentiate the drumbeats from time to time with the ocho-l which Lasalle originally owns. Oh yeah, we also have ocho-M as in Marlboro. Once you hear that other beat, you might wanna light that stick of smoke! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/smokin.gif

Each school has their own style. Most squads have stuck to the traditional "American" style while others have added other stuff to make it a very distinctive style.
UST - I admire their stunts and synchronization. Their girls are really strong.
DLSU - Love their stunts too. Cute uniforms this year :).
UP - Totally unique from the others. Each year, they surprise us with something different.
FEU - They're okay too but for me, they could use a little less streetdancing and breakdancing. But as I've said, to each his own right? :)
ADMU Cheerdancers - They're still new at it but you can see the potential.
ADMU Babble - Their beats and cheers get you totally hyped up. But sometimes, you hear the same thing over and over again. Nothing may beat tradition but a little variety never hurt anyone.

I still think that THE BEST pep squads, when it comes to the REAL thing about REAL cheering which is RALLYING THE CROWD to make them RALLY THE TEAM TO VICTORY, are still the ATENEO BLUE BABBLE BATTALION and dlsu pep. When it comes to REAL, TRADITIONAL, IN-YOUR-FACE CHEERING, these two squads and their schools simply CANNOT be outcheered.
Their traditional rallying cheers such as ONE BIG FIGHT, animo la salle, ATENEO GO AND FIGHT, rektikano, HALIKINU, FABILIOH, BLUE EAGLE SPELLING, just to name a few, can get the galleries up on their feet, cheering so loud that it becomes deafening. These cheers are meant to go beyond entertainment : they are meant to drive a point home towards the enemy, that the school (Ateneo or la salle) WILL NOT give up and WILL NOT stop the fight until the end. These are the words that translate the phrase "gallantry in the face of adversity" into rhythmic, fighting yells.
ONE BIG FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and that tradition of REAL CHEERLEADING has been past on by the BBB and the dlsu pep to both the DLSZ Pep and the HS BBB. in terms of high school CHEERLEADING those 2 pep squads are the best just like their college counterparts,
