I guess the feeling of most Ateneans is that they do attend a prestigious university with a higher attrition rate and an enormous guarantee that they will be marketable when they look for work. Ateneans, because of their wholistic development...intellectually, spiritually and emotionally. These are the benefits of getting into Ateneo, thus the feeling of zealous achievement.

Because in Ateneo you get a "minor" in Philosophy(16 units) and Theology (15 units)as all students are required to take them! No other school offers that kind of stuff unless ure a philo major!
I do hope the those units from the jesuits serve their purpose!

I'm not changing the truth - I just said that Ateneo is the best because I like to say it. I believe it, but it's hard to explain to non-Ateneans.

FYI,in UST, we also get a 'minor' in Philosophy (almost 18 units) and 'not-basic' Theology including Salvation History and Church and Sacrament (15 units also) even if we are not Philosophy Majors...all unbdergraduate courses in UST wouldn't graduate if they failed to meet those units.Imagine, I ain't gonne be a priest.

Salvation History and Sacraments?! Hindi ba basic theo yun? Kasi those are the things we studied when i was in my catholic HS. Anyway, i didnt know UST also have extensive humanities subjects for all its students. Good to know that.

fenixx, UST's core curriculum includes a great deal of humanities subjects. i had to take courses in dialectics, bunch of philosophy, theology, psychology, literature and art appreciation subjects, and i majored in accounting. i believe that ust and ateneo have this thing about holism as a method in education. i don't know with the other schools.

we have the same sentiments about that overloading units of those sanctifying subjects...anyway, we're catholic universities...that's why we can't avoid them.

Praning: I wouldn't be able to categorically answer your question since generalizations indeed won't work in this case. However, I'd like to point out that a lot of Ateneans were able to make their mark on their specific careers. Last year's Bar topnotcher graduated MEco here in Ateneo. Ateneo students also won two of the most prestigious business contests.
Again, I'd like to reiterate that we're not claiming that every Atenean will be able to outrank every Filipino college student. It's just that Ateneo also has its share of the brightest minds in the Philippines. The same goes for UP and De La Salle. The emphasis I think should be on how each student strives in order to improve one's skills and talents.

I totally agree with you. The thing is, any large university in the country would have attained a certain level of maturity within each discipline offered (notwithstanding all these childish comparisons). Any school with a broad offering can lay claim to an elightened, inspired, holistic approach to teaching. What is clear in threads like this is merely an understanding of a school's primary mission by the beneficiaries of that mission: the students. I'm from UP and I certainly hope I don't see a UP version of this thread. The last time we had that was when this crazy hard_guy drew up his "UP is the only real university in the Philippines". I kinda miss him, though. Has he been banned from posting?

I don't know about you guys... I think your acting quite immature... surveys, bragging about who's the best among the rest, saying that they are bunch of losers and not worthy of being the best... or saying that they are the best school... all I can say is...

I pity you guys... nobody is the best... perhaps better would be a right word for that... for all of the universities that we belong have thier own defects and shame to bring... THEY ARE NOT AS PERFECT AS YOU THINK THEY ARE... I, for one, cannot tell that my university is the best among the universities in the philippines.. or perhaps in the Asia-Pacific.... I admit that... those surveys are just like wick that when seen by spectators different conclusions come to mind... An explosion that when bragged by one, may create commotion and consequently, a big issue... I admit... I am a fence sitter... I don't belong to any of the side that's in here... that's all I can say... and...
