what is your impression on girls studying at assumption college?

hmmmm....i used to have a prejudice against assumptionista's...thought of them as students who i will never understand...they speak (and act like?!?)like Kris Aquino ( or is it the other way around)...but all these changed...I suggest that we give assumptionista's a second look... :)

I'm an assumptionista and I have been insulted a couple of times because of my being one...I dont understand why other people think that assumptionistas are pasosyal people...

I dont see any truth in this... Assumptionists happen to be very down to earth people. Yes, some students there are filthy rich...but that's not their fault right? They were brought up that way na eh..that's their lifestyle.

And regarding that "tusok tusok the fishballs" theory(?), we really have the tendency to speak taglish naman talaga sometimes eh...and if you're just with your friends, what's wrong with that, diba? If you're in the workplace na and you still speak that way, well, that's a different story.

ARIS- are you sure wala ka nang prejudice against Assumptionistas??? Or just one particular assumptionista??? Ba't lagi mo pa rin ako inaasar???

BLUE FEVER- thanks for defending my Alma Mater!!! :)

People should just stop stereotyping assumptionistas as pa-sosyal and maarte. Not everyone who goes there is one.

BUNNY >; no problemo! i have a good number of friends in/from assumption now/b4 (both of em.. pero more of sanlo) eh. a lot of them are nice naman.. yes rich nga but their money doesnt blind them (gets??) so down to earth sila. one can be down to earth naman kahit rich sila eh.

well, coming from AC San Lo i think that alot of people tend to stereotype assumptionists. especially those from the San Lo branch. they say that the girls are nothing but a bunch of CLUELESS (the movie) incarnations. well, to tell you the truth alot of people have found themselves to eat all their words after meeting one personally.
pwede ba, people from AC are actually branded for being the pinaka-down to earth people. ask around. they'll try practically anything and go practically anywhere you bring them. i mean they are always on their best behavior but you can't help that because that's what is taught from the 1st day that you enter.
as for the "language", hello people, almost all exclusive girls schools seem to have the same trait. in fact people from miriam, poveda, woodrose and AC usually get along when they all meet up in college.
so, enough with the AC criticisms, we're just people too you know. :)

Well every school has its own stereotypical description. As for Assumptionistas, well, I will have to admit, I didn't think highly of them when I was in my early years of high school. My school got along well with the girls from Assumption Antipolo but we preferred to stay away from the girls from San Lo. I guess it was because we didn't really know anyone from there and those that we did know, well... they weren't very friendly. But I do know of some people from San Lo, and they're nice naman. But I wish I had known them when I was in high school... :)

as for college AC students, i have discovered that all the stereotypes they say about the students and even the school (like they ask u how many benz do u own) is so NOT true. Some even say that girls from AC are "pok pok", malandi, maarte magsalita etc, etc. but its not true at all. sure u can't help na meron talagang mga "over" pero hindi lahat. they're very friendly, down-to-earth, and just like any other students from dlsu (where i transferred), and from other schools too. so i hope people will stop stereotyping AC students.

One thing I noticed about Assumptionistas: The nicest, down-to-earth, and most intelligent ones are the ones who've been in Assumption their whole life, from AC-Antipolo to AC-HS. The more unpleasant, arrogant, sobrang "feeling" na Assumptionistas are, funnily, the ones who just moved to Assumption in their latter student years.

bunny
Dec 15, 1999, 01:18 PM
IRA- I totally agree with you!!!

When i was in college, kung sino pa yung nanggaling sa ibang school, sila pa yung super "feeling" talaga! Pero not all naman...just a handful...

My whole grade school life was spent in Assumption Antipolo and my College years were spent in San Lo...

I dont think there's much of a difference between those girls who came from or are studying in Antipolo that of those who came from or are studying in San Lo.

I'd love to have one at my better half.

But since she may be too young for me, her older sister will do. LOL.

Please have her/THEM email me ASAP.

^sunny^: The Taglish talk started as a bastardization of how the English-speaking parents talk on one hand, and the yaya on the other. Although kawawa naman ang Assumption, they were the ones "credited" for this kind of talk, when there are a lot of other girls from other schools who talk the same way, because of a similar upbringing.

^sunny^
Dec 24, 1999, 11:03 PM
what about girls from other all girl school?

Ice Burn
Dec 25, 1999, 05:07 PM
From what I noticed, people from AC Antipolo are more down-to-earth and more friendly than people from AC Sanlo, while the girls from AC Sanlo are people whom you can really count on.

Don't get me wrong. I have friends coming from both schools and I don't intend to destroy the good names of AC...but i think it's because more rich girls study in AC Sanlo hence, the kind of atmosphere they are exposed to.

Anyway, why do girls from AC Sanlo speak in that ridiculous taglish singy-song voice (in other words conyo english)?

Honestly, I've heard worse than the "tusok-tusok the fishball" bit...Here's some true to life phrases...

1.) I mean you know naman ha...
2.) My driver's making pot-pot na eh!
3.) Grabe, my parent's equipment was sobrang low-tech!
4.) My ayos is so totally hideous na eh!
5.) Can you like pass the papel na?
6.) Can't you like see I'm still making ayos my hair?
7.) I wasn't able to make aral kagabi!
8.) You know, it's so grabe naman ha!
9.) How do you like my bagong cellphone?
10.) You're so tagal naman ha!

It's really ridiculous to talk like that. It's fine when you're with friends but it's becoming an unconscious habit and a lot of people are doing it...So please try to correct this habit before it's too late.

Elegant yet friendly. Probably one of the most affluent people in society, the creme of the crop...yet so down to earth and so hospitable like no other.

One time, I was at this AC party. A friend and I had just entered the elevator from the ground floor...together with three stranger assumptionistas. They began a friendly conversation and made us feel at home...even if we haven't even stepped in to the real party yet. Basta, they have this certain thing with words and charisma...that when they smile and talk...you just start melting

it really makes my heart melt when i hear something like what you just said be mentioned about people from AC. it being my alma mater and all, whenever i hear people talk bad about anyone from AC it automatically affect me big time. but when i hear something as sweet as you just said...well, what can i say! i'm pretty speechless as you can see. i just couldn't let your comment pass without being recognized.

I'm an Assumptionist (San Lo) ever since grade one and I have been insulted a couple of times just like Bunny, Tinee, and the other Assumptionist.
It is indeed very true that people who moved in or transfered to AC (specially in college) are the ones who are "feeling" and the one who keeps on speaking "tusok-tusok the fishball." (wala nga fishball sa AC ehh pano kami bibili dun? - heheheheh)
I understand people who stereotype us because they are the ones who doesn't know us very well. I can't blame them for that. However, its very offensive to generalize us and hit us with words below the belt.

Thanx Saint & Blue Fever!

I had a couple of AC batchmates in college, and I must admit their Taglish tendencies rate much higher than the average UP person. I suppose it would hold true for other exclusive school girls, but I would note that my Miriam and St. Paul Pasig friends speak very fluent English.

This is not a judgement; only a true-to-life observation.

i have a friend who studies in AC-Sanlo now... i don't know if she has changed but i guess, it's unfair to judge a person just because of his/her alma mater. Besides, every school has their own "stereotyped image".

The Rock
Jan 4, 2000, 03:19 AM
The Rock used to think that AC people were too pasosyal and mahirap maabot. All that taglish really turned The Rock off. But after spending four years in college with them, some of The Rock's best friends are Assumptionistas, and The Rock is proud to say that. Ask Kaboom!, his girlfriend is from AC, and she's one of the nicest people on the planet.

Yeah The rock also likes to pick on the taglish of the Assumptionistas. Hey, they're The Rock's friends so he can mock them because he cares! Here are some examples:

1. Can you make ano the ano?
2. How sayang naman your vacation!
3. You can almost picture Batman's cape na nag-bi-billow-billow.

To be fair, hindi lang Assumptionista ang ganyan, even The Rock's Povedan friends talk that way, but hey, it's what makes them unique! Gotta love them for it!

The Rock's right... It's not just Assumption girls who talk that way. I've heard girls from other schools (Poveda, Woodrose, Miriam, etc.) do the taglish thing. So why pick on Assumptionists? Besides, who cares? As long as you're mabait and down to earth. And Assumptionists (well, most of us anyway, can't speak for everyone) are mabait and down to earth. Turo yon ni Mother Marie Eugenie eh. :)

Bunny: Ako rin --- Antipolo from grade school to high school! Dumaan ka rin ba kay Mrs. Cuartz?

i study in assumption & when someone asks me where i study, they go & say: "talaga? let's go make tusok-tusok the fishball!" hahaha! what makes it ironic is that there isn't even any single fishball stand near assumption...taho pwede pa!

sometimes, when i tell my high school friends that i study in assumption, they ask me to introduce them to my classmates...hahaha! they think that just because they're studying in assumption, automatically, you're pretty...hehehe!

as opposed to what a lot of people think, assumptionists aren't all maaarte...there are some, of course...di naman nawawalan ng mga ganung ang lahat ng school e...that's just normal.

Jan 26, 2000, 03:43 AM
well, i have tons of AC (more from san lo, that is) friends and they're not all maarte. I have a deep respect for assumptionists because my lola and some of my aunts went there. Even my AC friends admit that some girls are maarte but which school doesn't have it's fair share, right? I came from Miriam, and i tell you, super dami din the girls who are maarte there and my best friend is Povedan..she says the same thing. As from my personal experience, AC people are cool and interesting and great gimmik partners :D I think the reason that a lot of MC, AC and Povedans are all friends because of the 'taglish speaking-maarte' image.

My early encounters with assumptionistas happened in college (long ago). I could not stand them. Maarte, materialistic, and tending to associate only with people of their own kind.

So you will notice that in the topic on best boys/girls high schools, wala sila doon. Hindi ko talaga nakasundo.

Now those same assuptionistas are older. Most have gotten married and have children, others have decided to remain single and are successful in their careers. And in the often strange and quirky way the world works, I have managed to reacquaint myself with those girls I once could not get along with.

Alam ba ninyo, I like them a lot!

They have turned out to be outstanding human beings.

Kaya't kung may problema kayo sa mga assumptionista, bigyan ninyo ng panahon. Pabayaan mo silang tumanda ng kaunti.

Nagbabago sila, mga bossing - for better, not worse.

When I was in high school and college, I always thought that girls from Assumption were very, as in very "MAARTE". I proved myself wrong.

I met some college students while volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and they worked the whole day under the heat of the sun and got all dirty.

it's very unfortunate that assumptionistas have been streotyped negatively. however, if you will think about it, why would they be stereotyped as such if there's no historical pattern to base it on?

i know a lot of assumptionistas and there are really those who typify the stereotype but there are a few who really are not the typical "assumptionista".

but take note. those who typify an "assumptionista" are those who were bred there. as in doon sila nag-GS, HS, and college. there was a thesis done on this and you would be very suprised of the findings and the statistical data: there really is enough evidence to support such stereotyping.

i attended dozens of parties since HS and college and wow - believe me.... http://www.pinoyexchange.com/yummy.gif never tasted anything so ....

(no offense).

kaya i'm sorry for those na nadamay lang sa mga kagaguhan ng mga nagdaan na alumni ng assumption for creating such a stereotype.

i had 2 girlfriends from assumption and they are not the typical ones. and believe me. yung karamihan na pinakilala sa akin...

yun lang po.

siguro it's time the younger generation of assumptionistas change that stereotype (the worst of it is "dime-a-dozen").

peace :)

The "tusok-tusok fishball" phrase is an Assumption urban legend -- it may or may not be true. It's been going around for three decades already, since the seventies. It's died down and resurfaced again countless times. My older brothers and sisters who went to high school in the 70's swear they actually heard an Assumption girl utter those very words -- the rumor is that it's actually Kring Kring Gonzales. Hence, it spread like wildfire and has been associated with Assumption ever since.

Can't someone invent a new Assumption catch phrase? That "tusok-tusok" thing is soooo old. Panahon pa siguro ng parents n'**. Time to retire this old legend.

graduated from assumption antipolo and i never really let myself be affected by the way other people think. if you think we're maarte, pa-sosyal, etc., o e ano naman ngayon? it's your loss you didn't try to get to know the people who usually sweeps ecology contests, #1 environmental advocates, top academic notchers, potential country leaders and the like.

no matter what other people say, assumptionistas had already (since long time ago pa) proven their, our in this case, existence. Our school already produced high-caliber graduates, namely, Cory Aquino, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Olivia Lamasan, Loren Legarda, a Lopez who dedicated her life to charity work (i forgot her name) and many, many others.

In short, there may be social climbing Assumptionistas, but please, don't take those who lead "worthier" lives than yours forgranted.

wow! im so relieved there are a lot of ppl who see us assumptionists in a positive way, having graduated from sanlo.

it was so freakin infuriating everytime someone asked where i graduated, specially with the people i usually interact and meet, (musicians or ppl from the music/arts scene). they tend to have that ****in' stereotype in their minds all the time! ang unang akala nila lagi is that i come from UP, since i don't do that "tusok tusok the fishballs" lingo and dress like a friggin' preppy, for crying out loud. worse, tingin ng iba, BOBO ang mga assumptionists! nakakainis tingnan yun smirk sa mukha nila pag sinasabi ko na galing akong assumption sanlo.

pero ok rin at least ngayon medyo nag-iiba na pala ang paningin ng madla sa mga assumptionists. believe me when i say that people from our school are really intelligent, nice and friendly - whatever your social status may be. in fact, simplicity is the #1 thing taught by the nuns in our school.

i've seen worst cases of the "assumption stereotype" in other schools. mas feel pa nga nila eh.

and regardless of what other ppl think of our school, i'd enroll my daughter there when she grows up and i wouldnt think twice about it.

when i was in high school, i thought assumptionistas were so high and mighty. nakakatakot ba. i feared that i could'nt maintain a decent conversation with them because they would be using their highfalutin' english, and me, stuck with my mundane, barok lsgh grammar would be left in behind in the dust.
and then we had a soiree, and all my preconceptions vanished.
i've been with my assumptionista girlfriend for the past five years, starting when we were in high school.
to all those who b*tch and gripe about assumptionsitas, get to know one first before you start to generalize. lumalabas ang mga tunay na kulay ninyo.

talaga? i watched that particular episode also, but didnt get to see that. i was kind of surprised that medyo hindi mukhang taga AC yun nasa isyu 101. buti nalang at least hindi mga mukhang maaarte yun pinadala ng school, thank God! at medyo nagiisip at aware naman sa nangyayari, yun nga lang, barok mag english =). well i can't blame korina cuz she came from our rival school - maryknoll/miriam college.

my sister who's still a senior at AC also says medyo nagiging iba na ang mga taga assumption ngayon, i mean grammar-wise. mostly freshmen daw who came from other schools. nakakatawa daw talaga pakinggan. pero i think lahat naman ng schools merong ganyan diba? =)

OH MY GOD!!! :o this topic is still alive! the last time i posted in PEx was ages ago and this topic was here already. well, i guess people really have different impressions of people from AC. but wait a minute, i was just wondering why is it that it's usually people from assumption who have to undego these "first impression" thingies. i mean all girls schools have that "way of speaking" as well and why is it that they never get ridiculed or made fun of or whatever. people from poveda, st. scho and miriam all pretty much act alike also. that's why the girls from these schools usually get along when they end up together in college. why not focus your attention on them you know. :) http://www.pinoyexchange.com/girl.gif

When I first went to Assumption, (I spent grade school years in the province) I was somehow biased about the girls there and I thought they would be snobs and "maarte", but of course, that all changed when I got to know the Assumptionists. It really touched my heart that those who were given so much in life happened to be the kindest and humblest people on earth. The richest ones who seem to look suplada and matapobre are even the ones who genuinely show they care during our outreaches/immersions. Assumptionsts are friendly, sweet and understanding -
I've found my closest and best friends in Assumption and I can't be even happier about it.
I'm more disappointed with people who come from other schools who say bad things about the Assumptionists. It must be envy or a desire to be just like us :D :D Joke lang, of course.
I don't know if i'll get hate posts after this, but I think that most, (ok, not all) of the time - napapasama ang rep ng Assumptionista dahil sa pinaggagawa ng ILAN sa mga college students. One can not attribute this to the Assumption education/culture but probably to where these girls went to high school.
By the way, I can't deny that there are Assumptionists who do that Taglish thing, but at least, it sounds better than other people who try to be hard to be konyo.
(Oi, sa Assumption ko rin natutuhan ang pinagkaiba ng konyo sa sosyal. Heheh)The "tusok-tusok-the-fishballs" did not come from us, bec there's no fishball vendor there. (I don't know now- I've graduated from hs two years ago)
I'm so proud to be an Assumptionist :) :) :)

ay naku! nag-umpisa na naman yung generalization na yan because of that girl who said "nag-a-outstand"...tsk tsk tsk...it's really too bad AC had to be represented by that group of girls. had i known na meron palang ipapadala yung school na students, i would have volunteered the students from AC na talagang conversationalists...ang daming iba na mas worth kausap.

the girl who said "nag-a-outstand" is actually from my class & nakaka-imbyerna talaga siya! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/grrr.gif she's one of those who lower the standards of AC...napaka-feeling niya talaga...& i'm sure ^sunny^ & excess29 will agree with me, diba classmates?

I studied in Assumption Antipolo since i was in first grade...

In college i went to UP Diliman and graduated Magna cum Laude. AA education helped me become who i am and develop in me the sense of responsibility and respect for other people.

Now..i went back to AA and im a teacher. The students are a nice bunch. Kahit anong school naman may good girls and not so good girls di ba?
So, thanks to the ppl na who are open minded enough not to generalize..

well, i used to hate assumption ppl with a passion..(they used to be considered as st.scho mla's arch enemy) and i knew of stories na talagang downright swearing and namecalling in malls during encounters of these two schools...plus, we considered them rivals for guy's affections...(although, it's pretty much set that la salle boys pair up more often with scholasticans and ateneans with assumptionistas) but this was way before...now, i agree with Tinee that girls from poveda, st.scho, miriam, and assumption do end up becoming friends once they get to college...it's funny, we actually feel as if we all came from one highschool.. :)

I think kRiNkLeS is right. Assumptionistas do get a bad rap but I went to AC and I have to admit I've heard some of them talk in the worst Taglish that it begs the question if these girls were dropped on the head as a kid that the part of their brain that forms language might have been damaged.

But I do agree, AC has some of the prettiest girls around. I myself am a perfect example. Hahahaha! :naughty:

i think those in highschool have the right to be maarte because they're rich. Only a few highschool grads of assumptionistas go to assumption for college not unless they dont have any other choice. those in college are just "feeling" rich. The truth is those college girls just graduated from so-so highschool.

sublime_79

of course not all assumptionistas are maarte.. what bothers me is assumption's college students. they're the ones maarte and feeling just because they're in assumption. i mean it's alright to be feeling but hey you're just an assumptionista (college). maybe if you're from ua&p, up, dlsu, or ateneo i would understand.

inhinyero
Nov 17, 2001, 09:30 AM
i'm a bit biased because i was from AA myself... but i have to say that Assumptionistas are very down-to-earth and friendly once you've had the chance to know one... as for the taglish issue, i have to admit there are some Assumptionistas who are like that... but not all! we do have a natural tendency to speak in english rather than in tagalog and this is greatly emphasized when you go to a school like UP for college, where most people speak in tagalog :) kaya minsan nadudulas at nagtataglish!

chersy
Nov 17, 2001, 07:10 PM
This will also be a bit biased since I've been to Assumption Antipolo for 12 years of my life, but I have to say that all the people I've met from Assumption, whether from San Lo or so are nice and friendly--even my friends from other schools say so. I guess we do have a bit of reputation for mutilating the English (or Tagalog) language or being snobby. I don't think that can be avoided though because there are different kinds of people in school and sometimes, it all really depends on the person how she wants to end up. :)

ey my class had a soiree with a bunch of assumption girls in high school, and they seem like pretty cool people. friendly, easy to talk to... i just think its unfair that some people have to categorize these girls or generalize them just because of what you heard from others. i mean, just because you heard or met someone who is maarte or speaks bad taglish, doesn't mean that each and everyone in that school is exactly the same right? wala lang.. im telling you guys, theyre pretty nice people. give em a chance ;)

I don't know any Assumptionistas but I do have the impression that they're nice people. Sa lahat naman ng school merong mga "feeling or pa-sosyal", hindi maiiwasan yun.

So I hope when the time comes I meet one in college, she'll prove me right ;)

I have some friends in college who graduated from AC (highschool). They're very nice and outgoing girls. Aliw kasama. :) Luckily, my friends aren't the b!tchy Assumptionistas.

And shadycj is right, sa lahat ng schools may mga feeling or pasosyal. These pasosyal students are inevitable. Actually in my college, those who graduated from ghastly secondary schools are the ones who are sooooo pasosyal. Haha. So don't stereotype all Assumptionistas as pasosyal or maarte. Not all of them are the "i'll make tusok tusok the fish balls na" or "hey look at me, im pretty!" kind of girls. ;)

Based from my Assumptionista (San Lo) blockmates in college: They all talk alike. (I find it cute though) And I don't think it is really their fault na mahilig silang mag-English..I guess they were really brought up that way. :) Pero what baffles me though is that they REALLY talk alike..same accent and all.

Assumptionistas ? Oh well...magastos kasama mga naging friends ko. Kahit tinatamad at gusto ko matulog ako ginagawang driver at laruan pag sinumpong ng kakulitan.

Pero honestly, gusto nila laging nasa labas. I mean labas dito...punta doon...kain dito...watch doon. Ganun sila noon. I dont know kung ganun pa rin sila ngayon.

Pero mabait sila at kalog kasama.

azul_81 - Did you ever ask your Assumptionista friends why they always want to go out? I'm from AC San Lo and most of my friends are really filthy rich but they don't get ANY attention from their parents - no hugs and kisses, no ingat ka anak, no are you feeling sick, no goodnight sweetie!! Nothing. My first few weeks there was terrible. I thought the girls are maatre and very childish but when I got to talk to them and spend time with them, I realized they had worse problems than most people. They just hide it because of image and those things.

Give Assumtionistas a chance. Take it from me, when I transfered to another school(financial probs), they stayed friends with me and we still hang out. About that magastos thing, you can say you don't have a budget for whatever they want to do and they'll understand (unless you're pride can't take admitting you don't have budget)!! Aminin!! Kidding..

AC High school = PANALO

AC College = :(

 dami din namang pretty girls sa college ng AC. Maybe it's because of the impression that there are a lot of probinsiyanas in their tertiary level, but most of the college students there still look good (and also are smart) nonetheless.:)

but hey, i understand your line of reasoning. After all, AC HS products include Alexi Alunan, Georgina Wilson (both who studied in Ateneo) and Georgina's cousin, Isabelle Daza who is currently in La Salle.

I guess we have to be thankful for AC High since their graduates are partly responsible for keeping the "beauty" quota of Ateneo and La Salle kolehiyalas constant through the years:lol:

i think those in highschool have the right to be maarte because they're rich. Only a few highschool grads of assumptionistas go to assumption for college not unless they dont have any other choice. those in college are just "feeling" rich. The truth is those college girls just graduated from so-so highschool.

i second the motion!
HS is really okei...but college is just so-so... mga pasosyal at hindi sosyal..hahaha! mga trying hard at feeling pretty..to think na ang papanget talaga!!! eeeeww..... want me to post some photos of them?? hahahha! mga loser talaga..:rotflmao:

AC girls? Normal na tao.
Naglalakad, kumakain, nanghihingi ng pera, nawawalan din ng pera. Pinapagalitan ng magulang, sumasagot sa magulang, nagwawalis, nagtatabo pag sira ang shower. = )
