View Full Version : Leaving cellfones turned on in labs maybe grounds for a minor offense! Ridiculous!

I was checking my mails in the LS Computer Lab (229) and this guy (I don't know if he's an SA, a guy from the DO, or just a plain technician...he looks quite old, though) rattled us freeslotters when he made this announcement, "Reminder lang sa mga freeslotters, turning your cellfones on would be grounds for a minor offense (nde exact words." Akala ko naman yung sasabihin niya regarding accessing pornographic sites or logging out kasi malapit na mag-class ng 2:30 pm. Pero nagulat ako nung sinabi niyang "turning your cellfones on"! Since kailan pa naging kasalanan ang iwang nakabukas ang cellphone?! May rule na ngang sinusunod prohibiting the use of cellfones in classrooms and labs tapos ngayon hindi pa sila nakuntento, pati iwanang nakabukas ang cell bawal na rin! Sobra na yata 'yan. At present, my previous alma mater (LSGH) follows a ruling on the ban of cellphones in school. Imagine, kahit high school students bawal humawak ng telepono kahit sa corridors man lang! Ano bang kabobohan 'yon?! Ang DLSU yata sumusunod sa LSGH...
This is the situation in DLSU right now. In other schools I know a lot of students are also given limitations, if not the same, worse than that given to us DLSU COLLEGE Students. Any comments on this?

Wag sana maging offense. I have an experience when a classmate of mine turned off his cellphone inside the lab. Then, 5 computers (including his own slot) immediately RESTARTED (same idea when you press the RESET button sa PC). It's much better if it becomes an offense kung mangyari yun. Or give lighter grounds, like first warnings...

ibang klase talaga ang ibang tao... and may i ask you... SINCE WHEN NAGING NECESSITY ANG CELLPHONES... what... you guys are doctors or somethin' para maghintay ng EMERGENCY calls? call me a prude (although i'm only 19 yo and owns an 8210), but i don't think that this should be an issue at all. your post is downright stupid and irrelevant, IIMSSM. text msgs lang naman ang habol nyo eh...as if naman hindi dumadating yan pag-on mo. mag-isip isip ka nga Cronides, dapat ka bang magjurumentado? you know, it's teenagers like you who give teenagers like me a hard time being perceived as an adult, as a mature individual.
now, may i suggest that the next time you got the urge to turn on ur damn phone in a place where it shouldn't even be on, like (and please take note):
CHURCHES
AIRPLANES
ANYWHERE INSIDE A HOSPITAL (you damn fool, those people in life support could die because of the waves you send out)
CINEMAS, etc....

Hiya Cronides (are you the cronides that plays Counterstrike, it's me, Spectre) Anwyas, I was a victim of this ridiculous stipulation. I can't see why I can't leave my cell in silent mode. I think that's the issue here... why they have to slap us with a minor offense even if the cell makes no noise at all. Dapat payagan basta naka silent mode. Anyways, the SA on duty just asked me my ID# and I gladly gave it to him, I really don't care... I wasn't viewing pornographic stuff or vandalising the pc's. And besides, let's face it, karamihan ng gumagamit ng computer labs sa DLSU may cell... they just leave it in silent mode, but they don't turn it off. Malas ko lang nahuli ako.

Well, at least people have responded...

My post is definitely not downright stupid and irrelevant. It's not me who address matters critically that gives teenagers like you a hard time to be perceived as mature adults, rather it's your kind of people who accept things blindly who do just the things you're accusing me. Call it apathy, your attitude is the worst enemy of any progressive institution. Why are you so afraid to challenge the norm, haven't you been fed up yet by all these rules that we have? You probably haven't understood the topic so well yet. My concern is not so much on the policy that prohibits the use of fones inside classrooms and labs as it is on the policy prohibiting people from turning their fones on else be penalized with a minor offense. Stupid isn't it...to be penalized for a mistake you know you did not commit or you were not aware of? Or have you been through all the alanganing situations in La Salle that you think you can easily get away from the same dillema with your unsurpassed charisma and intelligent (cowardice) approach.
Think about this my friend. We're all trying to constructive here...please do your share.
As for the others, oo nga, 'yun nga yung nakakainis eh, kahit silent mode hindi pwede. I'll consult a friend from the LA about this. This would probably make for an interesting topic during the sessions.
PEACE!

Lug-a-lug has a point, although this isn't really absurd or irrelevant as he puts it.
People with cellphones should at least have the courtesy or common sense to set their phones to silent mode when they are in certain areas, like churches and hospitals.
Regarding the cellphones in labs, I know there are certain equipment that are delicate/sensitive to interference, but computer labs are not part of these.
That's what the Class types are for, isn't it?

Computer labs themselves arent sensitive to the frequency of cell phones but the computers themselves are. Our monitors for example functions using certain frequencies. The circuit can filter out low freq. noises/interferance but high frequency interference can bleed into the circuit which may cause the picture tube to explode. Most electronic devices also are sensitive to high freq. interferance so be careful of where u place your cell.

Baka misinformed lang yung computer techinician. Baka sa tingin nya may nangyayari sa computers pag naka on yung cellphones. (i'm not sure kung meron or wala)
According to the people that posted, wala naman daw effect, so siguro effective na nakasilent mode nalang ang mga phones.
Pero, I think hindi naman kailangan magover react kung pinapapatay yung mga cellphones. Nabubuhay naman tayo before na walang text/cellphone diba? So, kung ganon yung rules sa lab nyo, then just follow it. Wala namang masamang mangyayari. I don't think you even receive messages on time (pag naka Globe kayo) so walang effect if you just turn it off ... in any case, delayed parin naman yung message.
Unless, siguro pag may emergency, and you're waiting for an important call/text ... then don't use the lab yet.

That's why they are doing so because there is a technical/scientific basis for it.

To set the record straight...the use of cellular phones and other electronic devices in computer laboratories is a ground for minor offence. This is stipulated in the NEW Student Handbook article 13.3.2.23
